.NET and GPS with Titan (programming) - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

Anyone have any .nET experience? I have converted the microsoft mobile library c# files to vb and can access the gps without help from astro, etc. My question is this:
Where is my leak comming from!!?!?! After "activating" the gps object and waiting for a while, the ppc slows to almost unresponsive behavior.
thanks for any help folks.

Although this probably isn't the appropriate place for this thread/topic, I do have some C#.net experience, so I will take a look later tonight at this after my class and after I reinstall the Windows Mobile 6 SDK
Update:
Ahhhh Shi-....
File or assembly name 'Microsoft.WindowsMobile.Utilities, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35', or one of its dependencies, was not found.

I installed .NETCF 3.5 on my device (which covers all the lower .NETCF's files too), and it doesn't have this file. Did DCD remove this file/.NETCF from his ROM? Anyone know?

hope this helps...

Where were these files on your device? I can't seem to locate the .NET CF 3.5 assemblies.

they aren't in my "core" -- try copying them to the folder you have the exe that you are building...
I use no2chem 5067.

EDIT: copying them to the folder on the ppc of course

Just an update for you, I'm messing with the GPS right now using Serial communications (System.IO.Ports.SerialPort).
The GPS runs on COM4 and gives off basic NMEA codes.
I'm trying to write a parser for mine.

ooh - that's a smart idea. Does it need priming or does it just "work"?
That's the only reason why I chose to use the GPS module stuff - I read that it turns on the necessary components properly. (xcept it leaks like a spigot running full blast)
after I write this other project up - I'll get to this serial port stuff and post any parsing I do as well.. Thanks for your help scrawnyb

http://aprs.gids.nl/nmea/#gga <- this explains the NMEA codes
I'm still getting a lot of OutOfMemory exceptions...
Also, I'm trying to work on a Universal Remote software, but I'm getting no data from the IR port (COM1)... but I haven't done my research to see if I have to issue commands for it to 'listen' or what... idk.

TomTom 6.010 on WM6

Hi, Ive just installed TomTom 6.010 on WM6, but I can never get a GPS signal.
If I go to configure my GPS device in TOMTOM, which type of receiver do I select? The NMEA GPS? (I'm assuming this is COM5:9600, too)
Please help lol
Mines set up as:
Other NMEA GPS reciever
GPS Baud Rate 57600
Com 4
and Tomtom 6 works perfectly.
I had to use the tomtom 6 patch listed in an earlier post as my tomtom wouldn't work under Win Mobile 6, have you had to do the same.
It takes 5 to 10 minutes to find GPS signal some times (spesialy for the first time)
On some ROM versions it is immidiate. experiment...
My Com port is 0, but before i pair it with my HTC.
I use original Tom-Tom GPS

Excuse me, but I'm a bit confused...what exactly are you pairing with the HTC? The GPS?
Why are you using external BT GPS instead of the internal one? is it due to low satellite reception?...cause I do this as well, since I have sun shields on my car, and the BT GPS is placed on the shield on a clear location where the reception is much better.
The internal is mapped to Port 4, but actually it is on Port 5.
cheers thanks. works great now
i havent had to update tomtom at all yet, but im not using a particularly kosher version *ahem* (although i do have a tomtom 6 lisence, just not for the maps im using)
If you run QUICK GPS BEFORE opening tomtom it finds the satellites pretty fast (at least for me). If I do not run it tomtom takes a long time to locate the satellites.

You should only have to copy the map subdirectory (probably called France for this map) into the root of your SD card and Tomtom will be able to find it.
Location of TomTom 6.x patch for Windows Mobile 6?
A search of this forum does not seem to reveal the location of the latest TomTom Navigator 6.x patch that allows said software that I just purchased to run on my newly purchased x7501, which has the Windows Mobile 6 2.19 ROM code flashed.
What / where is the latest TomTom 6.x patch?
Is there a later, proven, "better" 2.x WM6 ROM available?
Alternately, what tools are used to develop the ROM flash code and application patches?
Thanks,

To add to that, I normally do not do any settings. I just install after every flash and start the program and leave device near my window and go off to have a coffee. After several minutes it sees the sats, and maps etc. That is it. The rest is automatic the next time I start and goes faster.
Alway s have the maps and voices folders installed (copied) to card.

No success
I am having no success installing TomTom Navigator HOME 6.010 on my x7501, which has the 2.19 WM6 ROM flash.
I have unsuccessfully tried twiddling the user interface settings that seem as if they may affect the outcome.
When executed on a laptop running Vista, without WM5torage, the installation program does not recognize the x7501 as a valid installation location. Attempting installation while running WM5torage 1.75 causes a WM5torage hang and the x7501 needs a reset to connect to a laptop running Vista, and results in a "<file name> not found" error message after WM5torage ceases functioning. One file might get copied, most often none get copied successfully.
Installing from various locations and combinations with the ppc cab file results in a "Installation of <cab file> failed" message, to the system, microdrive and/or the 4GB microSDHC card.
Though new to the xda and mobile device space, I am reasonably experienced otherwise. As painful as this might be for both of us, please tell me, step by step, how you successfully installed TomTom Navigator HOME 6.010 onto your x7501. Please do not assume anything, as I have likely missed something simple. I would need to know the versions of software used, e.g. ROM, WM5torage, Navigator.
According to the TomTom web site, Navigator 6 on WM6 is not supported.
Thank you,
Tom

I had a similar problem installing the retail/downloaded copy of TomTom onto my device. I called TomTom support and they couldn't figure it out. I eventually figured out where the installation files were, extracted them and moved them over to my SD card. Then I installed them from there without any problem. I asked tech support to document the procedure I implemented to get this done in case they have other people with the same problem. Hope this helps. I'm slammed with work now or else I would look to see which files I used and post the info. I'm sure if you're familiar with installing CABs from the device you'll be able to tinker around a bit and find them. One thing I remember is that I had to extract the CAB on the CD or DVD before I was able to access the actual installation files. The first CAB is the archive and the CABs inside the archive are the installation files.
6.030 officially out-
Actually, Tomtom has officially released this update...
http://www.tomtom.com/support/product.php?ID=1401&Language=4&query=update&FID=6814
Basically, d/l the latest version of TT Home, insert your mem card or connect the device (mem card only 4 Vista), and click the D/L button on the above page.
Then follow the instructions. If it doesn't install, then you can manually pull the
cab file from:
(C:\Users\XXXX\Documents\TomTom\HOME\Downloads).
Then open with Winrar, and extract the ttn.cab file located in the 2577 folder.
Transfer to the card/device, run it, and you should be good to go.
Last note: Palm has an official update available on their site here:
http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/gps_nav.html
which appears to be the same exact file (same size).
Hope that helps...

a1jatt's kitchen for 3.35 rom

This kitchen is based on sprint 3.35 release
NOTE:This is an os rom. radio 3.35 and olipro 2.40 unlocker required.
Features:
* Only 57 mb, includes all tools and everything.
* Very easy to cook. just run buildflash.bat and follow instructions.
* Clean
oem folder has been cleaned, windows live and some other stuff is removed from sys, Every program has its own folder. if you want it to be cleaner just delete related folders from sys folder.
* Adjusted security policies
* based on original sprint release. It is not a remixed version. Almost everthing extracted from original sprint rom, including xip, sys, oem drivers etc.
* Fixed PIE, not freezing anymore.
I have spent lots of time on it and have adjusted lots of stuff that i cant remember.
I have learnt most of stuff from xda-developers.com, ppcgeeks.com, howardforums.com , no2chem and dcd and they are source of some of the packages i have included. So thank you all.
It would not be possible without the wonderfull kitchen tools either.
So please thank them also if you like this kitchen.
Instructions: Just run buildflash.bat and follow instructions.

No bugs, fast, easy to customize and no attempt to install bleeding edge updates!!! This is exactly what I was looking for.
Thanks again!!!
my experience.
Great rom - easy to use, and fast. Although it didn't like being compiled under parallels on Mac OS X, I had no issues with the build file under a windows laptop.
My only problem that i have found (kind of major) is that I can not connect to the internet via #777 on Telus. I have the "Ev" on my title bar, and the internet briefly connects, but quickly drops the connection saying unknown problem. I have no idea why this is happening, but would love a solution
Otherwise google maps, works fine w/ wifi, and I was unable to get tomtom to find the map (no maps found) so have no clue there.
Thanks for the rom, and if anyone has advice on how to resolve my two issues that would be great Keep up the great work.My ex

That is weird. You might want to try without any add-ons and reprogram your phone via *22803 using option 1 and then option 2 to update prl.
I have flashed 5-6 phones ... have not had single problem in last three weeks.
No body else has complained at ppc or xda yet. Since not even one other person is having same issue, I am guessing it’s not a bug; it’s just your settings.
If you can help me with duplicating the problem on my phone, i probably can fix it.
Tomtom issue is not rom related. Tomtom maps should be stored in folder in the root directory of sd card.
Sure what info would you like to know? I performed the following:
- Installed the Olipro 2.40 unlocker
- Flashed with Sprint Rom 3.35 latest
- Used the buildflash.bat on a windows box to create my install
- Installed the created rom
- Performed a *22803 with option 1 & 2
- Checked with Telus that I do infact have a data plan
- When I connect to the internet either through Opera or IE I get this message "Cannot connect for an unkown reason blah blah please check settings"
Now I have tried with a username & password (esn dec) with no luck. Now with my ignorance I have misplaced the data I wrote down on MSID, NAI, DUN, etc numbers so I have no way of verifiying that data. Now when I installed the sprint rom it started the install its extra stuff after an accidental power cycle - did that fubar stuff? Should I of relocked my phone, reinstall telus, then re-unlock and perform the above steps?
So with tomtom the maps are in the root of the SD? In a dir? Do I have to edit the currentmap.dat file?
Thanks for the quick reply and help - what other info do you want
from here
http://rapidshare.com/files/103173398/Erase_Extended_Rom.zip.html
flash the attached rom ( it includes flashing utility) . it will erase sprint stuff you have in extended rom.. that should fix data problem
tomtom maps should be \\storage_card\usa and canada maps
no need to edit any files
Did that, and re-entered the data for my #777 connection (username and password). Unfortunately I still have no internet. Will keep plugging away. Thanks
However TomTom is working now with maps

may be flash telus oem, get data working and then copy every single epst setting before you reflash.
inorder to flash telus oem you will need relocker from ppc site.

It will work but you need to change a registry entry first. Somewhere in this forum has that entry. Try searching for it and see if you can find it.
Reading is hard. I wrote I got the message "Cannot Initliaze GPS service", which implies I changed the registry and could select mode 9, GPS photo.

Exactly the same case here, but with Irus WM6.1 Full version.
See my thread at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=405016.
If you do have another unit that's working, you might be able to save yourself the trouble of messing with the ROM kitchen. On the unit that's working, go to /Windows and copy gpsid_HTC.dll to a storage card. Then put the card in the unit that's not working and copy gpsid_HTC.dll to \Windows there. Do a soft reset and it should work.
Or put this application on it http://www.geoterrestrial.com/ which is better than the built in system with its work arounds. As it now sports VGA support its worth trying on the Athena devices - Mike

Cannot use any of DCD's Kitchen's

Well, up until now, I have just used DCD's ROM's without customizing then, but I thought I would give the kitchen a shot. So, I downloaded DCD's latest and greatest kitchen of v3.2.2, also downloaded the .Net 2.0 link EXE fil from his page and tried to install it (cause you need it to run the kitchen) but I get an error, says that it is "incompatible with the previously installed version of .net"
so, i tried uninstalling all my .net stuff in add/remove, rebooting, and installing this, and still wont let me. i tried windows update and updated to 3.5, had 1.1 and 2.0 downloads as well, and nothing will work.....net will not install at all, no matter what version.
so i cannot get the kitchen to run...help....?
:: Connor
did you restart the computer? after, did you delete the entire extracted folder of the kitchen and re-extract it? that always works for me.
Using DCD's (BuildOS) Kitchen with Vista
If you have UAC active on Vista here is what I suggest. If you are seeing issues with default.hv, user.hv, boot.hv most likely you have a permissions issue. Delete your extracted directories - Create a Root folder, such as Kitchen - Select Properties of that folder in Explorer - Go to the Security Tab and choose Edit - highlight your Users group and choose full control and then OK. Extract your kitchen files into this location. Logic would tell you that you should be able to just change the permissions on your folder once you extract it - UAC and logic don't necessarilly run together.... So once you've created a Root directory, set the security, extracted the kitchen into this location - run buildNB.bat as you would anything else - good luck.
The same issue applies to Vista and .Net errors (.Net 2.0 is default in Vista)

No it is ok as Bean-town, only used as a verb. Still has the sports connotation, and can be used both offensively and defensively, and in all the sports Boston offers (Hockey, BB, Baseball, Football, etc).
Verb
To bean.
1. To hit with a projectile, accurately.
The pitcher beaned the batter, rather than letting him hit another home run.

So where did this come from? Would be nice to have more information than what you've currently posted, please elaborate..
In addition, most of the newer roms have the aGPS working, so the gps issue is a moot point.
Which GPS problem I wonder, I can think of 4, one being aGPS (which works great now after 5.08 AT&T)
There's also the issue of 'speed lag' and then the issue of 'position lag', and finally the issue of 3rd party gps programs not showing satellites/losing fix every xxx seconds/etc.
/me snags the goodies

Anyone actually worked out what this does yet?
Ok, so this installs cleangpsdata.exe to \Windows (same ver that can be found on blackstone and other stock msm 72xx ROMS)
It copies a link into \windows\startup (same as the cleangpsdata package from blackstone does)
The functionality of the cleangpsdata program is simple, it opens the GPS0: hardware port and sends an IOCTL to wipe out the stored epheremis and other cached data in the chipset's NVRAM.
The problem this is intended to fix would seem to be extremely long startup times for gps (due to bad cached data that needs to be cleaned out)
With aGPS functioning it should have no effect; without aGPS it should only have an effect if your cached gps data gets corrupted for some reason and a quickgps re-download/re-inject won't fix it.
i'm wondering if it's works with WM6.5
So as a chef, would you recommend cooking in this fix and executing it in config operator or just cooking in clean gps and creating the startup link in app.dat??
Same effect either way (cleangpsdata as a package, i.e. from blackstone or this hotfix .exe)
I used to cook it in prior to aGPS being fixed.
Also, there's no relation to WM 6.5 with this hotfix, it talks to gpsdriver.dll, which is compiled independantly of the OS.
In addition, if you snag the latest HTC GPS Tool, there's a "Cold Start" menu option in it - sends the same IOCTL!
I do not use aGPS and am a bit scred to install this hotfix
I'm in Canada...I have no assistance server for AGPS...so would this help?
well I just tried installing it on my fuze which runs energyrom 3.0 the May 22nd build and it says "incorrect version, this hotfix is not compatible with your device.
Re: Not having an assistance server for AGPS
There are several publicly accessible servers available, check out the agps thread, as long as you have a data plan you should have no problem getting agps working with a few registry tweaks

Check your \windows folder; you probably already have cleangpsdata cooked in.
are you guys (who are using this hotfix) having the data plan?
or do you have entire map saved on the storage card?
Not that I've bad reception but after all this time from htc to post an answer to gps issue I had to install it and tried it..
Did not tested yet, tomorrow will post if I see any difference! Maybe it will take longer, cause it cleans the gps data all the time i reset. Or am I wrong?
@zenithcoolest: I use maps always on storage card... Data Plan is expensive and it's impossible to use with frequency!

You can use supl.nokia.com if you have a data plan, works great in Guatemala
You can find info in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=489887
It didn't do jack-squat for me. Well, instead of getting a fast lock like I was getting yesterday, I had to wait five minutes. So it did do something.
