HTC / XDAii - no function at all - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

Hi all,
after a Rom-update my XDAii doesn´t work at all anymore, the only thing he shows on the not illuminated screen is:
Serial
v1.01
Does somebody can help me?
tshoshua

First of all, I have asked the mods to move your post to the Himalaya forum, as that is what your phone is, and you're likely to get plenty of help there. If they don't move it, I would suggest you go and post your question there.
Now, on to the problem.
It would seem that your phone HASN'T updated the ROM, as you are still in what is known as Bootloader Mode. Do you notice when you plug it in the message changes to USB instead of Serial? If you don't, there may be a problem with your cable.
I only suggest this as you believe you updated your phone, yet it doesn't seem to recognise that.
Also, go into the ActiveSync connection settings and make sure that it is set NOT to automaically connect. It is better to have ActiveSync not running when you update.
Also, which ROM are you using? You NEED to use specific roms from the Himalaya forum for your SPECIFIC phone. They are the only ones which will work. No others.
Hope this helps somewhat. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

ROM Install Help on 8525

So I recently downloaded the "RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_2_1_[1].15.502.3_6275_1.40.30.00_108_Ship" ROM for my 8525, in hopes that it will provide me with a more stable pda/phone enviroment so that I may do the work I need to without having to hard reset every other day or so.
When I try to run the ROM install, I follow all the insturctions but when the update starts to run, it shuts my activesync connection off so the update can't run and throws back an error that it lost connection with the device.
Any Help Here? Thanks
PS: I love the idea of being able to use my 8525 for all my work and play needs, but if this update doesn't help make the device more stable, I will have to sell it for something that doesn't crash this much.
hey..iv got same problem.. i think it maybe cause we are using windows vista (thats the only information i can find about it).. i wanted to update ma rom aswell
I'm using XP Pro.
try running it on another system...if available...
anyone know the solution to this?!
OK, have you installed HardSPL ??
Check my SAFE WM5 upgrade guide, if you follow the procedures in there you should be fine.
Yeah, as far as stability goes most the wm5 roms out of the box aren't going to be the best. with any rom i use sktools to tune it up for performance/stability settings. It does this automatically so you don't have to find various registry keys. So don't think just because you are going to another rom everything will be okay.
Read the wiki, search the threads, you will find answers to all your problems.
As far as you not being able to connect what is your spl number? Also, have you tried hard reseting then connecting or trying another computer. I had the same problem when downgrading a black 2.5 with hard spl 2.1 ( i had to downgrade to send it back to cingular). I ended up just downgrading to the highest version of cingular rom which is branded AT&T. It looked like a pretty good rom but I did not play with it.
he does not need hardSPL(at least i dont think so) he is just runnning an update for another cingular ROM, its still the same CID...try running it on another system, i had this same problem and it worked on another system....

HardSPL will protect him against a faulty SPL flash if it occurs, a newer SPL is likely to be in the ROM update aswell as a newer radio possibly. Having the same CID doesnt matter because if the radio or SPL flashing procedure messes up it can create a bricked device VERY easily (corrupt SPL or even a corrupted CID/Radio BL). Besides if he already has HardSPL that would explain why the RUU doesnt reconnect when the device is in bootloader mode.

point well taken...=)
you mention, since he has already gotten HardSPL, why would that mean his device doesnt reconnect in bootloader?
put it in bootloader first and then run the update...
make sure you disable usb connections with active sync put your phone in bootloader and run the update might as well go with WM6 its a lot more stable than any WM5 rom i have played with .
OS crash
I run ROM install then computer shuts itself now my 8525 show hi true color with red/blue/white i tried to hard reset to solve but till hi true color what should i do?

I've run there updates on my 8525. If the computer is shutting itself down, try another computer. This sounds odd. More of a computer problem then a Tytn Problem.

=) have you even tried it?
I'm having a problem connecting ActiveSync over USB. When I first got the phone I was able to use that connection. Then I set up BT ActiveSync. I believe at the time I could use either USB or BT, but it has been a while. BT sync was so much more convenient for me that I haven't used my USB connection except for charging the phone.
Today I tried to get set up to upgrade the ROM, but ActiveSync doesn't seem to work over USB anymore. I turned off BT on the phone. When I plug it into my laptop's USB port the laptop makes a sound indicating it sees the connection. It makes a different sound when I unplug it. I also see the orange charge light come on on the phone. I usually charge the phone this way when I am on the road since I don't carry the wall charger with me.
I think at one point I installed a river that I fdound here to access the phone in bootloader moder. Other than veryfying the phone connected this way, I never did anything with the driver. IT has been so long that I don't remember the details. Could that be affecting the connection for ActiveSync?
I have made sure my firewall is inactive. In Windows XP Device Manager I see an HTC USB Sync device under Windows CE devices. Would it be safe to remove that device?
Any ideas how I can get USB ActiveSync to work again?
Is it totally crazy to try the ROM upgrade over the BT connection?

have you tried changing the setting on your phone "USB to PC"? I would try this first before digging to deep

You may want to try using the Hard SPL v7 and then install your ROM. I did that and all went smooth as silk - six times now. I have been browsing ROMs to see which one suited my needs an personality, and it has been fun. You can find that on my FTP site at ftp://xda:[email protected]/xda_dlz/
This is a dynamic IP Address from a cable modem so two things are true
1. It is subject to change at any time.
2. It is not as fast as some of these speedy servers
But, I do know where it is.

I had tried this yesterday and checked the Enable advanced network functionality box. Today I unchecked it and suddenly the PC saw a new USB device (HTC Sync USB, I think). It still wouldn't sync automatically so I manually executed /windows/repllog.exe. This time it connected.
Some observations:
- After the connection was established the the name of my 8525 was changed to something different (something like WM_ComputerName1, Where ComputerName is my computer's host name). I changed the name back and was able to re-invoke repllog.exe and sync with the old name.
- If I disconnect the USB cable from the phone and plug it in again ActiveSync doesn't connect until I manually run repllog.exe. It does work when I run the exe on the phone manually.
I went ahead and started the upgrade process after connecting by running repllog.
Executing the RUU file from the HTC site first put SPL 1.11 on the phone and left the phone in bootloader mode (with the tricolor screen). I left the phone with bootloader screen and followed the instructions (although by now ActiveSync had shut down so the part about the AS connection that the installer asked for was not true). The progress bars appeared on both the phone and the PC. It took a few minutes to complete, but the update was successful.
After the upgrade I was able to sync over USB without any problems. I am now syncing my contact from Lotus Notes and setting things up to my liking. Once I got over the USB connection problem everything worked fine!

USB device not recognized. Will I be able to upgrade?

I've got the Dopod U1000 version of the Athena with the original WM5 Rom. Unfortunately, a few months after I got it, both my laptop and my desktop (both running XP) suddenly stopped recognizing my Athena when I connected via USB. I always get an error message of USB Device Not Recognized. Since then, I've had to connect via bluetooth to ActiveSync. (The Athena does charge when connected via USB, just isn't recognized by the computer or ActiveSync, obviously.)
Now, I'd really love to upgrade to one of the WM6.1 cooked roms, but it seems I need to use Olipro's Athena wrapper first, right? And it seems that I need to be synced with the PC via USB to run the Athena wrapper, right?
Am I stuck with WM5 or is there a way to make this work? If not upgrading the rom, can I upgrade the radio, or does that also require the wrapper process?
Any advice greatly appreciated.
You must synchronize correctly in order to upgrade!
Now you should look for the cause why you can't synchronize? try to go to Settings -> Connections -> USB to PC and see if the choice is checked uncheck it and do a soft rest and try synchronizing
I had that problem with my previous work computer. After several months the usb port I always connected to suddenly didn't recognize the Athena. Switched to another port, after a while it wouldn't recognize it. Etc, Etc. I was on my last port when they upgraded my computer.
Its been several months now and no problems. Have you tried another computer?
Bright Neon,
thanks for the reply. Have tried many times what you suggested with no success, as well several hard resets.
techntrek,
by different usb ports, do you mean the different physical ports to plug in on the computer? If so, I've tried both on my laptop and all six on my desktop. Don't have access to another computer at the moment.
So, there's no way to use the Athena Wrapper without being synched? From my reading, it seems possible to flash a new rom from the minisd. I was hoping something like that was possible for Athena Wrapper, as well. Definitely not, huh?
Yes, I meant the physical usb ports. I have no idea why it was such a problem for me on that older computer.
Sorry, don't have an answer for your question about flashing from the mini-SD.

I've extracted the needed file from the AthenaWrapper. See attached.
1st prepare a mini-SD card FAT32 formatted. Unzip and Copy the extracted file into it root.
Or with existing mini-SD, move all existing files into somewhere and copy this attached file
into the root of the miniSD. You must leave the root solely for this special file.
Place the mini-SD into the Athena and execute BootLoader.
It should instantly detect and automatically run the AthenaWrapper from there.
Ensure your Athena with sufficiant battery power or run direct from adaptor.
I've not use this method on wrapper but works fine installing rom.
I am not responsible if anything goes wrong from here.
So if you are comfortable to try than proceed. Otherwise wait for a better solution.
Pdajoy,
Thank you very, very much for the file and instructions!
Now, I've just got to see if I've got the courage to try it. If anyone else wants to weigh in on whether this is likely to work or end in disaster, I'm all ears.
Evermore, you are welcome. Hope you solve the USB issue.

I think it would be very brave of you to upgrade the SPL this way.
I can't remember anyone attempting to do it this way .
So many people were having problems that cmonex made a wrapper to try and prevent problems.
there are a few processes involved in this so I suggest you pm and ask her directly after reading both the AP4 upgrade posts.
it will not work from SD if you dont have a hardspl currently
Thanks for the reply. I just got my athena back from the shop in an attempt to fix the connection problem, but they were unable to fix it and said I'd need a new motherboard.
So, with no way to connect via usb, I'm stuck with WM5 on this device then, right?
Have you tried other computers. I would try several more makes/models.

there can be a way, actually. run SSPL (a spec version that doesn't have SD removed. current one has it removed, iirc), then use that to read in a ATHEIMG.NBH.
but I do not remember if for Athena SD works in SSPL loaded with jumpspl or only with SSPL loaded from diag (and the latter would require a hardspl already on the device)... drop me a PM and we can test this out.
This night sound obvious, but have you tried to use another USB cable?
Also, the USB port of the Athena is bit loss. You might want to try to use a small piece of paper inserted together with the USB male plug to make the contacts tighter.
Hey,
Thanks for the replies. I have tried several cables and computers. I even tried the suggestion of inserting paper to make the contacts tighter, but the fit is actually quite tight, even without the paper. I'm inclined to accept what the repair shop said - that there is a problem on the motherboard where it connects to the mini-usb. So, short of replacing the motherboard, there doesn't seem to be a mechanical fix to my situation. I thank you all again for your suggestions.
Cmonex, I'll pm you to take you up on your offer to see if there's a chance of upgrading without usb connection.
A couple years ago the connector on my XDA was broken. The service centre wanted something like US$300 to replace the mother board. I decided that it was not worth it and tried to repair myself. I opened the case and found that the "legs" of the connector were broken - I ended up soldering a mini USB port to the mother board and used it for another year before it was stolen!
My point is it is worthwhile to check whether it is just caused by a broken "leg". If so it is quite easy to repair!
kwongwt,
thanks very much. The guy at the repair shop had the intention of replacing the mini usb, but said there was a problem on the motherboard itself where the mini usb would connect. Don't know, maybe he was wrong and you are right.
I just found the service manual online and, yikes!!!, there is no way I can do this myself (even if I had the right tools). Just way too many ways for me to make a mistake in there. I'm impressed that you were able to do so.
So, until I get some more money together, I can't afford to get a second opinion from another repair place, unfortunately. I hope you're right and it can be repaired, but I won't be able to find out for a while.
Thanks again.
update... apparently the hardSPL flash worked from SD. maybe I'll release that SSPL later. but it seems he now needs to reflash the OS for some reason.
Yes, everybody. Cmonex saved me!
I have just successfully flashed michyprima's latest rom (spl 1.2). Going from original WM5 to this rom ought to be quite a leap, I suspect. And all possible because cmonex help me hardspl flash from sd. Who needs a stinking usb connection, anyway?
device not recognized - HTC Fuze
I was having the hardest time with my FUZE being recognized by my machines. I would have to reboot the phone and reboot the machine to get it to work. Even then it would only work once.
The fix was to get the original USB cable and use it.

I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade/update my S740 to the S743's ROM. since it is newer, there might be some improvement. can someone please tell me how to do this. I also can't seem to download the new ROM on the support page even thou I've entered my S/N. can some download it and send it to me? thanks
1. RTFM. Change it like that: Start - Settings - Connections - More - USB to PC
2. Can't help you with that, I've got the S740 and my S/N isn't working for the download...

Connection problem trying to flash ROM and HSPL

as soon as i try and flash the HSPL or a ROM it disconnects me from my usb connection, ive made sure numerous times that it is synced up before i start the flashing but as soon as they start it automatically disconnects me and the flashing doesnt work. Ive tried switching usb ports on my comp and nothings worked.... any ideas????
enter bootloader manually, when on coloured screen connect usb, wait for word serial to change to usb, and dont forget to right click and 'run as administrator'
thank you that worked so far, also its asking me which HSPL verson to install....
2.08. HSPL? or 2.08.0000?
it says my installed version is 2.10.0000

go on, have a guess, , is it the one with HSPL in the version, or the one without?, , , , , , ,
2.08.0000 is for returning to stock, you want 2.08.hspl
My first post!
And that last one above there made me chuckle, alot!
Sorry for posting on something almost a month old but it's the closest thing I can find to my problem.
So I've figured out I need HSPL to do any flashing, so i figured HSPL3 would be a good choice?
I'm currently on my boot screen and it says i have SPL- 1.42.0000, but the word at the bottom will not change from Serial to USB. I've got the HSPL3_PKG ready to run as admin when it does, but no change at the moment
Thanks for the help
forgive the dumb question, but the usb cable IS plugged in to the phone AND the computer, right?
haha yeh.
im on a laptop, there are 3 USB ports and i've tried them all.
there is one thing, one time when my phone was plugged in it started the whole windows device driver software thing, and then it said that it failed. could that be causing some sort of usb connection problems with my phone?
thanks alot, I see you're very busy!
is it something to do with my stock rom that ive not seen mentioned anywhere
1.43.206.4 (70315) WWE
?
:S
no, not the rom, but yea, the drivers not installing is probably it. You need to make sure that windows mobile device center (or active sync if you are on xp) is the latest version.
what you can try is, (after you have made sure you're on the latest wmdc version of course) with the phone connected, call up device manager, (on vista/7 , right click my computer, choose properties, device manager should be an option down teh left) find the entry for the phone (probably called unknown device, or something) and right click it, and choose update driver.
been trying to get hold of a WMDC download all evening but i think i'm hitting some server problem their end.
just checked the version i have, is 6.1.6965 and i think it was 6.1 i was after so i guess ill try and hook it up like you said above, will let you know...
damn 'windows has determined that the driver software for your device is up to date' think i have a plagued HD2 :S
wait, just reread you r fisrt post again.
When you start to flash it DOES disconnect, its supposed to disconnect.
Try this, enter bootloader manually, connect the usb cable (ignore what does or doesnt happen on teh pc) on teh phone, does the word serial change to usb? if it does, run your flash.
EDIT - oh, lol, you arent the OP, and i just read post 1, lol, ignore.
apparently i am missing some driver, Qualcomm CDMA or something like that... trouble is that i cant get a hold of it, theres a few threads on xda that mention it but no solutions.
normally, when a comp is asking for qualcomm drivers, it indicates a problem. Mostly it is when a tmous has been bricked, but occasionally other people have reported it. There aren't any qualcomm drivers that we know of. (Well, theres a thread that is titled qualcomm drivers, and does indeed include what appear to be drivers, but they wont install on windows.)
If i were you id focus on trying to find another pc to try it on. That way you will know if its a pc problem or a phone problem.
good call, i think ill opt for the trusty XP, just need to find that old laptop...
hopfuly you won't be hearing from me for a while.
i read that XP is more stable for flashing off of cos its more blunt, what do you think?
well, its certainly seems to cause less problems, especially HSPL'ing.
Good luck, and goodnight.

[Q] ActiveSync doesn't work anymore

Sounds like USB port is broken.
Hi all,
I've read a couple of threads for several days now, but none of the answers worked for me.
Problem is: I can connect from my HD2 to my desktop PC (win 7) initially, but when I try to install a new ROM (3.14.407_2), my HD2 restarts, shows the four colour screen and nothing more happens. After some minutes, my PC tells me that my phone isn't connected anymore.
It worked two months ago for the last ROM flash, but now nothing helps.
Tried:
- rebooting PPC and PC several times
- deleting partnership and setting up a new one
- disabling "faster connect" for usb to PC settings - afterwards, PC doesn't recognize any connection at all
- hard reset on PPC
I have no idea what to try next.. I wanted to install HSPL2 and flash the ROM from my SD card, but can't install HSPL2 ... same problem.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Infyrana
I also tried several USB ports on my PC
You think the HD2 USB port is broken? But I was able to transfer data when connected as normal device without active sync.
Do I have any chance to check, whether you are right, without having to send my phone to HTC?
maybe running the update in compatibility mode will help?
I thought the microsoft mobile device center (or however it is called) was made for win7, as the actual activeSync tool cannot be used?
So I can't see a benefit from this, but anyway.. I will try.
You could try using BlueTooth with ActiveSync, thats what I do. I have a "micro" bluetooth adaptor for my laptop and it all works fine... just a bit slower.

the compatibility mode for the ROM update file could help becasuse it is a separate application (no guarantee though as I have no way to check it on my PC)
compatibility mode didn't help.
don't have a bluetooth stick ...
no further suggestions?
Just found out, that windows tries to install driver "Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM" when I connect my HD2 after starting bootloader.
But it just searches and doesn't find anything. I searched by myself, but didn't find the driver anywhere ...
if you are really determined to update ROM, find the thread on ROM 3.14 here on xda forum, I recall seeing guidelines on installing ROM from SD Card
of course it will not solve your sync problem, but still...
Yah ... I wanted to install HSPL2 to be able to do install the ROM from the SD card (at least that's what I understood - that I need that first), but I can't install it, as I already wrote.
I GOT IT!!!
Finally.. in a forum somewhere in a forgotten corner of the internet.. someone gave an advice to uninstall the windows mobile device center and reinstall it.
After uninstalling, I had some trouble to find it again, but finally got it.
And guess what: it works now.
Windows managed to install the quadcomm driver and I could update my ROM.
Never had such a hard challenge with my HD2.
Thanks everyone who tried to help!
