I'm not sure if this happens on verizons rom or not because i always flash all my xv6800s to DCDs newest rom and im using the newest radio and the newest bootloader and also i built the kitchen with the verizon cab and mms cab built in as oems and mms, phone calls, gps, internet, data connections, and everything works perfect except one thing
I noticed that my phone switches to 1x whenever i make a call even if i set the phone to use evdo only and i know i have a good enough evdo signal because other phones stay on evdo fine and my laptops have mini-pcie EVDO rev a cards and they are set to EVDO only and they work fine
probally doesnt matter but my laptops all have mini-pcie novatel EVDO Rev-a cards on sprint and my cell phones use verizon and they all stay on evdo fine and the xv6800s stays on EVDO during data connections its just whenever i make a call or send/recieve sms messages it switches to 1x
That's completely normal. Voice is always handled by the 1xRTT (1X) network. EvDO only handles the data component. Nothing wrong with what you're seeing.
The Telecom New Zealand phones are the same where Telecom's WM5 seem to use EvDO alright but with all the new ROMs data always revert back to 1X
I think you need to do some reading on CDMA technology and how it works.
1xRTT = Voice/SMS
EVDO Rev 0/A = Data/MMS
It's always been like that, always will (until LTE is rolled out).
I mean, it's right in the name for pete's sake....EVDO...Evolution DATA ONLY.

IU have the same problem, I have sent it in to telecoms repair agent and have told them the evdo isn't working, I am waiting to find out what the will do when they find my phone has wm 6.1 on it.
If you get no joy out of telecom the WM5 ROM has been uploaded to PPCGEEKS but you will also need to rollback you Radio as that file doesn't have the radio only the ROM

Understood but EVDO will alway revert back to 1X if it can not get a steady connection, that appears to be what is happening. I'm talking about Data connections (I am only speaking about myself)

Flashed the new ROM and this is awesome! DCD made a kitchen, the GPS works super fast!, no RevA here but I'm hitting 1.8 megabits on downloads with WMWifiRouter, and the best of all when I set the phone to Roaming Only it switches over to 1X then a few seconds later it picks up EvDO on Alltel. Sweet! Haven't seen this since the 1.40 Radio.
Giving it run tomorrow and see if the internet connection keeps falling on its face every couple of hours which forces me to cycle the radio in the phone to fix it. Here's hoping the battery lives more than 10 hours.
How can you tell if you're picking up another company's EvDO?
When you force Roaming you see the Ev icon at the top. Or you can always look at the ##DEBUG# screen and see that it is on CDMA Cellular instead of PCS, which is where Alltel is in my area.
There is 1X from sprint here and EV from verizon. Will it automatically roam, or do I have to force it to roam (I havent got a chance to update yet).

No, there isn't an EVDO roaming agreement between Verizon and Sprint.
i still can't get mine to force EVDO only... its pissing me right off cuz where i live i only get Sprint 1x at like 40-60kb/x which sucks for everything basically
i use to be able to force evdo with the mode of operation tab in phone settings, but as soon as i turn that on, the HDR signal i was getting in field trial is gone and everything is set to N/A
any ideas?
hi!
i am using a tmous hd2 with the stock 2.13 rom and the recently released 2.15 radio. up till now i havent really bothered using packet data on my phone because i am a wifi guy... only recently did i start using packet data frequently...
i noticed two things out of place:
1) for some reason i have never seen hspa service on my phone. my operator runs a 3.6mbps dl 2mbps ul hspa services. whenever i switch to 3g and connect data, i always get a 3G written over the signal bars. and i have never seen speeds over 42kB/s (~384kbps) in several months of use. i have full signal strength in both 3g and 2g. if i am running 2g, then i get an E as expected over the signal bars. i have put in all the access point settings as defined by my operator (which are common for both 2g and 3g). i have enabled hsdpa/hsupa from winmo settings->connections->advanced n/w. is something amiss with the hspa settings on the phone? i really want to confirm that i have my phone set up right before i muster the courage to call up customer care.
(for someone from bombay, india, i am running mtnl 3g prepaid with following settings:- ap:gprsppsmum u:mtnl pass:mtnl123. this in itself is quite baffling because mtnl delhi has separate aps for 2g and 3g whereas the bombay network has the same ap for both. ap=access point)
2) i have never seen the H/3G/E/G icons on my taskbar. i mean the ones that are NEXT TO the signal strength icons. the space between the headset and the signal strength is always empty. isnt that particular icon supposed to show 'availibility' of the respective type of data connection? i read somewhere a long time ago that the icons are ROM dependent. but i am pretty sure i have seen snapshots of tmous phones with those icons...
i have been using bsnl cellone 3g since feb and i always got H in south india, even while roaming,...in few cities up north, like lucknow, i got only 3g icon displayed..i guess it should be H in mumbai..
from what you say, i think you have not enabled HSDPA/HSPA setting in the phone...do that..it is in settings/menu/all settings/connection manager or ?phone / advanced network ( i think...can't tell exactly where...iam presently on the android side...)

no, i have enabled hspa (both directions) from advanced network. i said that in my original post as well. what windows rom were you running? also did you just get H speeds or see the H icon as well?
both H icon and speeds on 1.48 wwe and 3.14 wwe roms
Hi I use an unlocked TMOUS HD2 here in Italy with the italian carrier PosteMobile and experience the same problem of silenced3 (almost the same as I still haven't tried a cellular data connection): My phone doesn't show the kind of cellular signal available, only when it data connection is activated it says what type of connection it's using. Anyone knows how to solve this?
Thank you for your help...
Hi, I looked for this in all motorola forums but I couldn't find any real solution.
It seems the latest update to my home network (HSDPA to HSPA) is not well received by my phone. My battery is draining really fast since this upgrade.
Is there a way to enable ONLY HSDPA? I mean, HSPA is great for downloading and uploading, but battery life is really poor. I had very good battery life with HSDPA and I'd like to set my phone to this type of data connection.
Somebody told me to look for some entries in build.prop but I didn't find anything. Does someone know how to do it? Thanks

Hey, thanks for your help. Well, I'm not suffering battery draining for any other reason. I don't want to use 2G networks only. Just want to change HSPA to HSDPA. That way, I'll go back to having the usual battery consumption.
Any other suggestion?
HSPA is a term that encompasses High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) and High Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA) - if your network was using HSDPA, it was an HSPA network.
Enhanced HSPA (HSPA+) is an enhancement to HSPA that enables download speeds of up to 21Mbps and beyond, up from the typical 7.2Mbps. The Atrix is a 14.4Mbps compatible HSPA+ device.
So you saying you don't want HSPA, but want HSDPA doesn't make any sense. Do you want to disable the increased upload speeds? (HSUPA) or the HSPA+ speed enhancements? (up to 14.4Mbps) I know Samsung have an option to disable certain parts of the network through a hidden network, no idea about the Atrix though.

Yes, I want to disable HSUPA (what makes it HSPA) since it's killing my battery. I found a lot of info on Samsung phones but I don't know how to do it in a Motorola mobile
Sorry to bother again. Any solution yet to prevent phone from going on HSPA and stay in HSDPA? Thanks in advance
Just for your information, I found some build.prop tweaks to set HSDPA only, but none of them worked. Any ideas? Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks

BUMP... Still trying to set phone to HSDPA only... Any thoughts?
it can be done, it took me three weeks to figure this out. we had a flood come through here about three weeks ago and it did something to just one antenna on the tower, i dont know what it did but it prevented anybody using a phone on hsupa from using their internet on their phone, i called att multiple times on the issue with no fixing of the tower that was transmitting a bad hsupa signal, the same antenna was transmitting a good "3g" signal or "hsdpa" both of my 4g phones would work anywhere else in the world except for at my house where the bad hsupa signal was. so i knew i had to find a way to downgrade to hsdpa to get my phones operational again, no help from att as to when or even if they would fix the towers. att thought i was crazy because i was the only one complaining about it because everyone on 3g was unaffected, probably only a handful of houses on this one antenna, att locks you out of your phone from being able to go to 3g or 2g, all automatic. 3 weeks of this crap then one day i remembered when the atrix first came out hsupa was locked out, remember all the scoff att got for that one, so here's what i did to shut off hsupa and get my phone back running again:
1. make sure your bootloader is unlocked - not sure if this will brick your phone if it isn't
2. download these radio packages http://www.megaupload.com/?d=V0LDOGFJ
3. flash the one radio that says att shipping radio or something like that through rsd lite (this is the original radio that shipped with the atrix) and don't worry its safe to flash if you are on gingerbread..
4. reboot your phone and you will be locked into 3g or hsdpa thus locking out hsupa
5. if you want to turn hsupa back on just flash the other file
this method worked great for me and got my phone working great again and no hsupa for me anymore until att gets the tower fixed which may be never since i'm probably the only one on this particular antenna with a hsupa phone.
all we need now is a nifty dev that can hack one of these radios to shut off automatic network selection for those of us that are stuck on it.

Well, thanks a lot. I was able to set phone to HSDPA only by flashing the radio you provided. I can't test if it really decreases battery drain but I'm going to try tomorrow with regular use. Thanks a lot!

Hey pal, your method worked! After flashing the old radio, the phone is on HSDPA only and battery life is way better, back to Froyo times. I don't really care about the enhanced upload. Download speeds are as good as they were on HSPA.
Thanks a lot.
Can you please upload those radio again? I'm suffering the same thing with my atrix. Thank you.
So, I S-offed my phone a while ago. I finally convinced my wife she should let me S-off her phone a day ago.
After S-off, I flashed the newest ICS leak (2x to make sure the RUU ran properly) and then flashed the stock deodexed rom that Scott posted.
That way she can have root, and I can remove some of the bloat apps she doesn't want via titanium and call it a day.
However, her phone is having some serious issues with 3g constantly toggling on and off while on wifi. (We don't have 4g in our area). I thought it was an issue with the kernel not flashing properly, so I wiped, and flashed it seperately. Still no change.
I reran the RUU 2x, and reflashed the stock leaked deodexed rom from Scott.
Still not changing the results. Her phone is running at least 10 degrees hotter from the constant radio toggling. Phone is reporting the same kernel and radios that I am.
Further investigation reveals that my phone is running on EVDO Rev.a, and her's is running on eHRPD. Running speedtests on the phones shows her getting 2-3x the data speeds of my phone while sitting in the exact same spot in the house.
So... any idea what's going on here? Technically eHRPD is better for data speeds as I understand it. However, if her phone is running at 104F and it's killing her battery it's not better.
For reference, my phone is also S-off, with the newest radios and kernels. I am running Rez Rom 2.1 which is a Sense 4.0 rom vs her stock deodex. As far as I can tell, mine being Sense 4.0 shouldn't be influencing the data connection like that.
Any thoughts would be really appreciated.
This is interesting,
where are you seeing which network you are connected to?
System settings> About Phone> Network.
It's listed there under Mobile network type.
Update:
I flashed her phone to the same Rez Rom s4 2.1 my phone is on, and it seems to have stopped the toggling issue.
She's still on eHRDP vs. my EVDO rev. a and the speed difference is huge.
Any ideas how to switch over to eHRDP?
If you have the 3G icon on both phones, then both phones are connected via EVDO Rev. A.
eHRPD is essentially an authentication protocol that allows switching to LTE when it is available.
Even when toggling LTE off in the network settings, the phone still connects via eHRPD. On the Droid Charge with a ROM with TSM parts, one can manually change the network selection. If you want voice, you need either 1X only mode or eHRPD 1X mode. If you only care about data, then there is an EVDO only mode. There is also the ability to force EVDO Rev 0 and still have 1X, but Rev 0 is even slower than Rev. A.
I don't think there is an easy way to change these settings on the Rezound (I'd like to know if there is.)
Generally, eHRPD is known for having data drops because of some network authentication issue. I have tried EVDO Rev A only mode and had less issues, but I have not tested this in a 4G area. Verizon may have fixed the eHRPD issues or they may not have.
Concerning your problem, I don't really have a guess what the problem could be. I can confirm that I have the CDMA selection in the network settings and that Network Speed confirms my network as eHRPD.
Procede with caution, since I am a Rezound noob: I would suggest running the RUU again along with the radios to see if it was a wonky radio flash. I can tell you that for some darn reason, I seemingly had to flash the radios on the Droid Charge several times in order fix some radio problems I had...

Beat me to your post. Are you in a 4G area? What speeds are you getting? I've never seen a phone get stuck on EVDO Rev A only mode with 1X still working. Try toggling 4G on and off and rebooting.
We don't live in a 4g area.
Update again:
My phone has switched over to eHRPD and things seemed to have calmed down. I did reboot it previously, and togggle airplane mode a few times and it didnt care about changing over from evdo.
I guess the weird toggling issue on her phone brought to light another issue that might be unrelated?
Thanks for the insight xdadevnube
Anyone know or have similar problems? I have PRL 12121 (and have even tried it w/ the current PRL by using the Update PRL option) and if I force roam on my phone, data refuses to connect on a majority of Verizon towers. The tower nearest my house, I can connect 3G roaming, and a few towers here and there, but majority I cannot connect what-so-ever. Any ideas on this? I have even reverted back to a stock rom on an older radio firmware to see if it'd solve the problem, but nothing.. I am able to make phone calls the entire time, just not data. I've also done a profile reset, and had Sprint reset on their side as well, and still no go.
Those hacked prl's are known to only work on some towers. I've found that different prls will work better with different roms. Just try a few more out.

I can force update to my regular issued PRL (21090) and have the same issue, so doesn't appear to be due to a hacked PRL. Sprint Tech Support is useless over the problem. I am running ZR3D-XL.. I've even gone as far as to go back to a standard STOCK ROM (while backing up my current install) to make sure there wasn't something weird going on. I'm just baffled over the whole ordeal.
Ok, so I've completed my investigations of my data problems while roaming (I'm in Austin, TX)...
When I select force roaming in various locations in my home market, I have determined that when my phone tries to connect to Cricket instead of Verizon, then it goes crazy. I just did a force roam, got full service roaming and 3G, I dialed *228 (PRL Programming, and of course it fails because I'm not using that carrier) to see which service answered, and Verizon was the carrier.. A few seconds later, my phone changed over from full service to having only 1 bar, and data connection dropped and giving the error saying it couldn't connect to the mobile network. Dialed *228 again, and this time, Cricket was the provider. A few minutes later, full service again, and *228 revealed it was Verizon. So, I've come to the conclusion that for whatever reason, Cricket is not allowing Sprint to roam on their own serviced towers, although they are supposed to have roaming agreements in place.
Anytime my phone connects to Verizon, whenever I force roam it to, the signal strength is excellent and I get 3G Roaming, but Cricket, even with the lower signal strength, still comes and takes over my phone and forces my data connection to die. I have even tried (as mentioned in a previous post) to use the official sprint PRL that is valid on my phone right now, even with 1X, and I have the same problem.
I've been doing this testing for several days now all over my market, and it's the same everywhere I've "roamed". It's annoying. Guess I need to go back and get a PRL prior to 2010 to see if I still have this issue, but of course, I would be missing out on all the updated agreements.
Anyone have any thoughts on this or how to NOT roam onto Cricket?
