Waiting for a DMU reset... - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

Downgraded back to VZW stock rom...lost voice and data connection.
Voice was easy to get back - got a new a-key
But losing data was a little strange - called tech support, tried a bunch of different things. Issue was a "wrong username and password". Strange thing was that even after entering the correct username and password, it wasnt saving it
So tech put in a support ticket regarding dmu reset and maybe some other stuff....have to wait 24-72 hours
I'm wondering if I should just exchange the phone (I still have 3 weeks left in the return/exchange period)
Is this a common issue when going back to a stock rom? I read in the wiki about connection problems but those arent really what I'm experiencing.
And yes, I took note of my EPST settings - they never got erased
One interesting thing I noticed by downgrading is that the warranty date code gets reset to the date you downgrade...

Hmm...weird you'd need a DMU reset then...

I even tried deleting the data connection setting that is automatically generated and creating a new one. The new one was able to store my username and password, yet I still got the incorrect username/password message when connecting.
It seems there is definitely a problem on their end, though I dont know why the data account that is created on my phone when I program it is not storing any username or password.
I'm just going to chock it up to a problem on their end that I hope they can resolve soon.

Have you tried having them completely remove data features from your account, then add them again? This sometimes addresses data connection issues.
Though I'm still not sure a DMU reset is necessary in your case, we can check just to be sure. Go into EPST (make sure you choose Edit, not View), and navigate to M.IP Default Profile. Take a look at the AAA Shared Secret, and HA Shared Secret fields. Are they blank or do you have encrypted values?
Next, navigate to Security (still in EPST), and take a look at the HDR AN AUTH Password and PPP PASSWORD fields. Are they blank or do you have encrypted values?

Tech support removed my data plan and re-instated it with no resolution.
As far as those settings you asked me to check:
AAA Shared Secret and HA Shared Secret fields are both blank
HDR AN AUTH Password and PPP PASSWORD fields are both blank
Is this a really bad thing? Can I fix it myself or will a DMU reset resolve these?
BTW, I really appreciate your help on this. Heading to Boston next week for a convention for a few days and really need data in case some of the presentations are not stimulating enough for me

Did you recently attempt to flash a Sprint update? Maybe for a radio? Did you run any PPST programs? If not, I have no idea how your DMU keys were erased, but yes, if they're blank...the only way to fix it is with a DMU reset. Once Verizon issues the reset your data will be good to go for your convention.
Where's the convention?

No sprint update....flashed back to everything Verizon - ROM and radio. Have no idea what PPST programs are so I dont think I ran any
From doing some more reading, it appears that a DMU reset is should only take a few minutes...dont know why I was told 1-3 days. I'm going to call again now and see if I can talk to someone who knows what to do.
Can I also do this by activating an old phone and then re-activating my 6800?
Convention is mainly in the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center, though some stuff is taking place in some of the surrounding hotels.

Yeah I'd call back. A tech who knows what they're doing can do it in about 30 minutes usually.

No - they were all booked up. Got a place at the Hyatt
So I just got off the phone with tech - they suggested just getting another phone as they think its a problem with the phone itself
I'm going to try activating my old phone and then reactivating the 6800 again

Lol some of them really are just plain morons I swear. The DMU reset will definitely fix your problem, it's just the matter of finding someone who's competent.
Let me know how the reactivating goes.

I know - I was joking with the level 2 technician about how its a crap shoot who you get on the phone, only because he wanted to try some other things that the last person didnt try. Also, the last person never submitted a trouble ticket like she said she would so it was a good thing I called, otherwise I'd be waiting a very long time.
Now just when I thought I found someone who knew what they were doing, he goes on to tell me that a DMU reset wouldnt fix the problem I was having. I wasnt going to argue with him, though I wanted to provide him some sites like this one for him to learn from but what are you going to do. I figure I would try the de-activate/re-activate thing first....
It worked! At first those EPST fields were still blank after programming with option 1 - I then tried option 2 and it filled those fields up with garbage
So now I'm back in business after following recommendations you guys made and not listening to the people that should know what to do
Thanx GC again for all your help!!!
BTW - the username/password in the connection settings is still blank but I can connect to the internet. Dont know if that matters or not

Hmmm deactivating/reactivating seemed to have reset your DMU keys. Did you activate an old non-smartphone....or was it a smartphone?
Either way, glad to hear you're back in business. The "garbage" is your encrypted DMU values set by your DMU public key. They authenticate you to the data network.
The username/password in connection settings can be blank, it's fine. Once you authenticate once, your DMU values are actually communicating your username/password. I bet if you look in EPST again, under Security, your HDR AN AUTH Password field is now encrypted too.

Yep
The old phone I activated was a LG VX8600 (regular phone). In doing so I had to remove the data plan. Then when I went back to activate the XV6800 I added it again
I wish technicians would all be on the same page and each one would know the same thing. I even asked the guy if deactivating and reactivate would solve it (just to test their knowledge) and he gave me some bull on how it wouldnt since the problem is likely a hardware failure on my phone

I'm also waiting on a DMU reset. I have PRI 2.01_011 with a Alltel 6800 on VZW. I was getting Error Code 11 PPP Connection Error. and username password wrong. Already set the security to [email protected] and password to vzw and cleared out the two keys in M.IO profile in EPST.
Waiting for data is painfull.

if you have an old phone laying around, dont bother waiting for them.
Just log into your vzw online account, activate the old phone on your number wait a little bit and then activate your 6800 again on that same number
DMU will be reset

Sorry could you define a little bit? Also didn't have to do and *228 to the 6800 once you reactivated it correct?

log into your vzw account online (if you dont have one, create one). Under the "My Services" tab, click on "My Phone". Select the number for your phone (only if you have more than one line on your account - otherwise it should listed there right off the bat) and then select the link that says "Activate Phone"
This will allow you to deactivate your 6800 while you activate the line to another phone you have. Obviously this only works if you have another phone that works on verizon's network.
If you do have another phone you can use, just follow the instructions after clicking the "Activate Phone" link.
It will automatically deactivate your 6800 and activate the other phone. In doing so, you may have to remove the data plan if you had it for the 6800 if the other phone you are activating cant use it. Dont worry about it since we'll put it back later.
Once your extra phone is activated on your line, wait 5-10 minutes and do *228 to program your phone (I was able to do it right away). Test out the newly activated phone to make sure it works correctly as well as making sure the 6800 does not work anymore
Once you've confirmed all that, repeat the entire process, this time activating your 6800 again. You'll be given the option to add a data plan - do so if you choose.
Once you get it activated, do the *228 to program it.
I wasnt able to get everything working again until I did *228 #2 option - the #1 option didnt do anything for me.
I should mention that I did a hard reboot and pretty much started from scratch - in doing so, the deactivation/reactivation worked flawlessly.
Also, I had a vzw phone, not an alltel one, so I cant guarantee that this method will work.
GC or another experienced member may be able to give more insight into this

Thanks for all that info. Just wonder how long you waited in between the ESN switch. I can't wait till VZW release that update so I can flash the VZW stock rom and PRI. Hopefully I won't have to do this anymore.

[SOLVED] 2.2 DCD ROM and Data now drops to 1x??

Carrier: Alltel
Started with WM5 ROM.
Flashed to DCD's 2.1 WM6 ROM last week, no issues noted.
Yesterday flashed to 2.2 WM6.1 ROM and now whenever I get a data session going in a strong EVDO area I get dropped down to 1x when the data session finishes connecting?
I've moved back to 2.1, used no2chems 6.1 ROM and back to DCD's 6.1 ROM. Same problem all around now.
Radio problem maybe? Or user? If radio, anyone get me a link to the original 1.4?
Thanks in advance if anyone has any tips, I've tried looking around but only find people with MMS or other issues.
---------------------
This solution apparently only works for Alltel customers, if anyone finds solutions for Sprint/Verizon/Telus I'll add the solution to this post.
ALLTEL:
1. Enter EPST (##778), Edit (password= 000000).
2. View Info (left soft key).
3. Choose the "Security" item.
4. In the "HDR AN AUTH Password(LONG)" field, click to highlight.
5. Menu (right soft key), Edit
6. In the "Value" field, enter your Hex ESN (make sure all characters are CAPITAL, lowercase will FAIL).
7. Ok. Menu. Ok to save, then reset.

Hey in case you guys are still having problems with this, I can tell you what worked for me with Sprint.
You'll need your unlock code, if you don't have it, you've gotta get it from either Sprint or from one of the tutorials i've seen floating around here and other forums.
1. Sync your titan to back up your data.
2. ##786# Choose edit, enter your unlock code, then choose menu>restore. This will reset everything to factory settings.
3. Reset
3. ##UNLOCKCODE# Again choose edit.
4. Both MDN and MSID should be your wireless number (this was confirmed by Sprint T2 tech support)
5. Reset
6. Call your voicemail to make sure your phone service is working.
7. Connect to the internet. It should trigger IOTA/Provisioning and then EVDO should be working.
8. Resync your **** and you're good to go.
Hope this helps, it worked for me.

I think with Alltel you get 1x when roaming. Do *228 option 3 < Thats to activate your phone if you haven't already
Then do *228 option 2 to update your roaming preferences which ridded me of roaming in coverage area!

Did you check Start->Settings->Personal->Phone->Services->Mode of Operation to make sure it wasn't set to 1X only? I think that was the default setting on my phone.
I had this same problem, and then I reflashed with the 3.16 sprint rom twice and it went away.
Appreciate the responses, but I don't have the "Mode of Operation" on my Alltel 6800. And I've reflashed all kinds of ROMs with no luck...
Thanks for the ideas though...

With the newest Advanced Config app, you can unhide the "mode of operation" option in there. I got it from here somewhere, do a search. I doubt this is your issue. I had this problem yesterday with Sprint. I got data in 1xRTT, but not EVDO. I ended up calling Sprint and they had to deactivate and reactivate the internet services on my phone. Immediately it worked like a champ.
I had this problem also and was able to take care of it by going into EPST (##778) and going under the security settings and putting the ESN Hex Value of Your Phone under the HDR Password. Mine got lost whenever I upgraded the radio. This will allow you to lock back onto the EVDO network

I just checked and I have a bunch of garbled characters in this spot. Does anyone else see something like this?
What did you guys have in that slot before you added your esn hex number?
the password you need is unlock code you can only get from sprint.
i also had the weird characters, i edited these out with my esn hex as mentioned and now i cant get a data connection at all, i get an error that i cannot connect. Anyone with any idea on what i can do?
I thought of downgrading the radio and then installing this one again and starting from scratch any better ideas?
My HDR password is also extended ASCII characters, has been for every ROM version I have run, and I get EVDO and on the Internet as well. I thought that was a problem when I had no data connection from a previous ROM, but it wasn't.
What worked for me was to go all the way back to the official 2.17, then to the leaked 3.16, etc. I made sure everything was set up and working properly on each version before moving on to another ROM.

But, my MDR Password field was goofy stuff, deleted it and put in my Hex ESN in ALL CAPITALs and I stay at EVDO when my data connection is made now.

yes i also have a bunch of giberish in there. i am afraid to change it becuase there will be no way for me to put that giberish back in there with all those weird looking characters.

my connection now says ev and doesnt change back to 1x anymore so i am going to leave this as is for now and not change it.

VX6800/Mogul/Titan "Network Connection" Issues

As many of you who have followed my previous rants already know, I recently upgraded from an out-of-the-box unit to a GPS enabled device - via a sampling of the 3.35+ Radio and the 5060+ ROMS - and have MAJOR problems when trying to access a non-WiFi internet, SMS or email connection - via Network Connection.
Although my PHONE continued to work fine, and I could send and receive instant Text messages... I could NOT send or receive ANY MMS or SMS transmittals. I could, however, access my email and the internet - via WiFi (at first), but - when I attempted to connect to same via Verizon Wireless... my Verizon VX6800 starts to connect via the #777 access, but will show an empty Password box on the Network Log On page (in other words it doesn't save the Password from a previous attempt - even after I type "vzw" and check the box).
At first - we were receiving error messages that said: "Error Code 11; PPP Connection Error" and "Network Connection Failure".
I can not begin to tell you how many times we took the battery out and did hard resets... as well as dialed "*228"...! I've even returned the device back to the original settings (ROM 2.09.605.8; Radio: 1.30.60) and - with the exception of the "Error Code 11" and PPP message... STILL have these connection issues.
Countless calls to Tech Support have finally put me in touch with one Ian Chamberlain... a most sincerely concerned, patient and articulate tech dude... who went the extra mile, and then some, to troubleshoot the problem. Yes, (as with all the others) he knew from the start that I had cracked the OS and upgraded from 6.0 to the much more desired 6.1 - with the needed GPS... and he STILL was willing to try to help.
In the course of his investigation, we discovered (much like that of a few fellow XDA-Dev'ers & PPCGeekers) that there was a Network setting (on Verizon's end...) that somehow required "resetting". Foregive me, but I've forgotten just what it was called... a DMU setting... I believe. Anyway... once that was preformed, we no longer received the afore mentioned "Error Code 11, etc." message - and now ARE able to receive MMS messages... but, still are NOT able to send or receive email OR access the internet on anything other than WiFi. A direct EVDO connection takes us to the Logon to Server page.
Thinking it may NOT be just be this device, Verizon has kindly offered to send us a NEW, out-of-the-box device (rather than a referb unit)... knowing I'm going to attempt to upgrade it. The current belief is - that in addition to the Network Connection Switch issue, we previously may have unwittingly been given replacement phones (from our local Verizon Wireless store) that may have been part of a "bad batch".
Once the new unit arrives (sometime tomorrow) I'll try it "as is" - in it's natural form... both via WiFi as well as direct - with a Network connection. If that works without flaw, as hoped, then we'll attempt to upgrade to the 2.40 boot loader, then the more stable 3.35+ Radio and N2C 5060 ROM... (that is, unless any of you have a better, more reliable suggestion).
Has anyone else had similar connection issues...? ANY helpful insight would be MOST welcomed, not just by me... but by many fellow VX6800/Mogul/Titan users, as well.
More to follow.

We are aware of the DMU public key issue. It usually gets wiped when people who are not Sprint users have updated their PRI to Sprint's 2.03 PRI (part of customizations). When you flashed back to stock, RadioRefurbish.sa.cab was installed as part of Verizon's customizations reverting you back to the Verizon PRI, though it clears the DMU public key in EPST. The DMU public key, located in EPST under M.IP Default Profile, is a public key which authenticates to Verizon's AAA server upon connecting to #777, and writes the AAA Shared Secret and HA Shared Secret private encrypted keys in EPST also under M.IP Default Profile.
Go into EPST by dialing ##778, choose Edit, enter SPC 000000, and then select M.IP Default Profile. There should be encrypted values in those 3 fields. Are they blank? If so, the DMU reset did not work. Also check the HDR AN AUTH Password field under the Security tab in EPST. That too should have an encrypted value. If it's blank too, the DMU public key still hasn't been reset.
You can manually reset the DMU public key, but can't through EPST. QPST must be used with the phone in DMR to write the key to the proper directory.

This is incorrect. The Verizon carrier cab does not write EPST values, nor does it reset the DMU public key.

Since its worked for me over a dozen times, I guess you are correct and know more than anyone else. Give it a rest!
Perhaps... but, we were having the Data Connection Error along with the repeated missing Password issue even AFTER we upgraded (and before we went back to the OEM settings).
Since going back to the original format, we even attempted to connect after adding a new modem connection... with no luck.
I ##778'ed and made the changes to the settings, saved, reset and STILL - the problems persisted.

maybe you guys mean 2 different things. the verizon cab sets up ##PST(send) shortcut to launch EPST.
it does not write any values accessed via EPST, it does not run radiorefurbish, it does not load PRI, and it does not touch DMU key, HA, AAA, etc.

Have done the above... and noticed that - according to your observations - the DMU must not be catching, as the HDR AN AUTH Password - under the Security option is STILL missing... as are TWO (not Three) fields under the M.I.P. Default Profile: HA Shared Secret and AAA Shared Secret... both of same are still blank.
According the Ian, the switch was reset yesterday - and the Network issue was believed to have been corrected - since we were then able to receive the MMS messages, when previously - we were not able to.
The same problem existed with the two previous devices - obtained from the same location... and could possibly be from the same production lot. If there were a production error, it is more than likely that it would/could have ended up in this group. The replacement device due in tomorrow is coming from a totally different location. If it is problem-free, it might suggest that this section of Vermont received a bad "batch".
Thusly, we're hoping the new unit may prove this theory out. If the new device should hold not only the password, but also be able to access thee internet and email via a network connection, as well as via WiFi, then we have a clean device to re-load the upgrade as you suggest.

I'm sorry, I was at work when I first posted and didn't realize my error. The DMU public key shouldn't be blank, it should be set to 10, whether it was reset or not, it never goes away. However, you know you have a bad public key when it is not writing the HA Shared Secret, AAA Shared Secret, and HDR AN AUTH Password, as you've stated these are blank.

There is a way (through service programming) to manually reset your DMU public key. I see you're expecting a new device so hopefully that will fix your issue, as the DMU public key on it should be valid. Just for future reference though, WiFi is unaffected by DMU. I think you said in your original post that WiFi works but EVDO doesn't. That makes sense as the DMU public key is only needed to create a 3g connection via EVDO. WiFi doesn't connect via #777 and therefore needs no authentication.
Best of luck with the new device though, and keep us posted.
The DMU public key (PKOID) IS set to "10" - as you just mentioned. The only items blank are the HA and AAA Shared Secrets. And, that of the HDR AN AUTH and PPP Passwords (under Security).

Yup...dmu key isn't doing its job. It writes the PPP password as well, but I didn't bother including it in the post as that's only used for the older dial up data connection.
If your dmu key is properly reset on that device (or is healthy on your new device), those 4 fields should be filled with encrypted data.
I am having similar issues with my phone. I checked the settings mentioned and my phone does have encrypted values in the fields. is there a resolution if the phone does have the encrypted passwords? My phone is running the same radio and rom.

If your DMU key is writing the encrypted values, then it is not a DMU key issue.
My advice to you would be for you to *228 option 1, then try and connect. If it says check username and password, go into Connections and Manage Existing Connections, and manually put in [email protected] for username and vzw for password, leave domain blank, set it to save password, and try to connect again.
If this fails, it also could be an issue on their end. Sometimes Verizon's computers go funky and they need to remove the data package from your account and re-add it. So if the above 2 steps fail, call them and have them do that.
As I mentioned in my original musing, a chap in the Tech Support department at Verizon's "Midnight Tech Crew" was MOST helpful when I first opened this forum. Ian Chamberlain (at Extension #2837) has been my "go to guy" of choice, as his old school commitment to customer service (satisfaction) is not only refreshing, but personally helpful as well...! That said, he not only assisted me in setting up my NEW (not refurbed) device, but also discovered (after doing some deep level research) that although another tech had made the usual switch flips, key punches and button pushes... something just wasn't Kosher... and took it upon himself to do it all over, once again. Wouldn't you know it - it made the difference! We even back tracked... and reactivated my original device - just to see if the settings were the actual culprit... and wouldn't you know it - it too was working good as new!
I'm sending the new unit back, as it wasn't needed, after all.
Talk about a Tech guy willing to stay with a customer until he (or she) is completely satisfied...!! When I offered to keep working WOW! I know Verizon is proactive to their customer's needs, but - this guy goes well beyond the usual call of duty. He even offered to stay with me while I upgraded my Radio, and installed the newest ROM... just to make sure everything was working to my satisfaction! Now, if ALL of Verizon's crew was like that... it in and of itself is enough of a reason to stay with the company!
Oh yeah, the service is right up there, too!
Yeah Sandy, the dmu key was probably not being reset correctly by the other rep. When Ian properly reset it, it worked fine.
I'm glad you got a rep that was willing to help so much...so far I haven't come in contact with anyone from VZW support like that.
Ian and I were speculating that perhaps I was continually being given devices that were out of a "bad batch" and had some software issue in them... so he arranged to have a NEW device sent from another location (Texas)... for a NextDay/Saturday delivery! Serious bite of change to ensure customer satisfaction!
I know you're with "the Other company"... but, in all fairness, you too - have been equally as helpful - to many of us, as we attempt to not brick our devices in our valiant desires to upgrade and flash anew! Such levels of end-user dedication is not often seen nor experienced in the world of today's "Instant Gratification Generation".
Clearly, two cool breezes in the hot sweltering days of Summer!
Thanks!

Lol, what do you mean "the Other company?"

I'm stuck in boot screen (updating ROM)

I've since solved my boot screen issue. I've installed :
dcd 3.2.5
Titan_Radio_ROM_3.42.30
dcd USCC Carrier 20080801
I have no data connection, I deleted it says my username and password are incorrect. I've tried every combination of my 10digit number and uss.net that I can think of. I've also reinstalled the uscc carrier cab, did the *228 and a soft reset. I can connect for 2 kilobyts then after that I can't connect. I'm not finding much on these forums to help me out. Does anyone have any ideas?
additional info
Sorry, the phone is a USCC 6800
hey just to let you know I have the 6900 and I dial #777 not sure if u wanna try that
I've had the same problem everytime I change ROMS. I have Verizon and found after I've "activated" the phone using the *228 then option 1, I then do *228 and option 2 (update my roaming capabilitys). That has always enabled my data connection.

If that doesnt work and you have an old cell phone around you can swap the ESN's on VZW's web site under customer service. When you do this you reset all the security information for the handset. I find this way to be the quickest method that has never failed. I use it so much I have the other ESN almost memorized!~

Run EPST and make sure that your PPP user name and password in there are correct.
If you didn't back up your phone's programming with QPST before and after flashing there is a chance that your EPST information is corrupt which would cause data to not work.
You will need your SPC/MSL in order to access EPST. You can try 000000 if nothing else works, and if it is 000000, you will need to set it back to the correct SPC/MSL otherwise *228 won't properly update your phone. Also USCC doesn't offer an option 1 or 2 after dialing *228, they don't have an OTA reprogramming of their phone.
If those changes don't work, you can try posting your entire EPST on here (removing any personal info, i.e. phone #, ESN, etc) and one of us USCC folks can compare it to ours and let you know what other areas look corrupt.
This is the one downside to USCC customers, we have to take extra steps while programming our phones to get them up and running, luckily it's a one time thing, once the phone is flashed the first time, these settings stick.

PPP Connection Error

When I try to connect to the Data Network, I get PPP Connection Error; Error Code: 11. I have my [email protected] and vzw as the password, and #777 as the number. Any ideas how to fix this? I tried reinstalling the carrier cab. Also did *228 a couple times. Are there any settings in EPST that I need to change?

You need to call support.. Tell them you hard reset your device and you need a DMU reset. (they zero out your ESN, removing all your services and then add them back)
You can also do this online if you have another device you can switch activation to and then switch back....
you may get a tech who is gonna have you try all different kinds of things.. enter this user / pass.. no try this one... but keep on them. Tell them you do this all the time cause you are a software developer or something and you have to test on clean fresh device, and when you hard reset you often need a DMU reset... they will do it.

Your DMU.key is corrupt. You can do 1 of 2 things.
1) Call VZW... Tell them you loaded the new MR1 update and currently have no data. Your research leads you to the fact that the DMU key needs resetting and only tier 2 support and above can do this. While they are saying they are resetting it... put the phone in flight mode. They don't tell you this. Then put it back when they say it's good.
2) logon to verizon's website and activate an old DATA phone. wait 10 minutes. Then re-activate your titan.
Putting the phone in flight mode both times cancels any possible hung data sessions.
Edit:

Well thanks to both. I was afraid I needed a DMU reset. Suppose I'll try option 2 with my old Razr. Thanks for the quick response.
Sorry for the double post Opera Mini was acting up on me.

Have you ever had a technician reset your DMU? This has been discussed before and seems unlikely. They always seem to start a trouble ticket and send it to some other network department. If you got a technician to do it I'd be interested in knowing that since in my and other's experiences, the technicians generally dont know how/cant do it.
Your best bet is to do the "reactive old phone" method

yes. I had one do it earlier. Just as I explained. Told the CSR exactly what I needed... they hooked me up with Tier 2... and the person actually reset it while I was on the phone. I had the same exact problem / error.

At least 6 times in the last 12 months (with Tech support)... but one of my friends is a tech and I just shoot him an IM If he's working.. otherwise I call and deal with tech support.
I hear you though... I've found that both an Akey and DMU reset are sometimes painfull.. Trying to talk a tech into doing it can be rough. Thats why I start off telling them I'm a software developer and I need to do this all the time.. bla bla bla (Plus they flag it in your file.. so they can see that Ive had it done often, if they read that part). Some of them figure I know what i'm talking about and jump right to it, and others will make me dance like a monkey going through each step of thier troubleshooting guide.
The important thing is to be nice.. if they want you to take out your battery, take it out.. If they want you to try another username... try it.. eventually (because there is no other fix.. on thier end) they will have to do the DMU reset...
Oh... And when they act like it was thier idea... just go with it..
I tried the activate old phone method with no luck. I may not have waited the full 10 min (wasn't sure if that was important), but I did *228 with the old phone (Razr) and could make calls with it. I then switched back to the 6800 and did *228 opt 1 but still get the PPP error. I noticed in EPST under the Security tab that my PPP password and HDR AN AUTH password are all symbols. Do I need to change these to "vzw"?

Hrm.. I should have mentioned this before.... When you activated your Razr, you should have been prompted that it will remove the data plan... Did you add it back to your plan online?
Also, re-run the VZW carrier cab... it "Should" fix any username / password issues you might have created while messing with them...
The ultimate problem is still the Data services... but if you messed up the user / pass you wont know if you fix it.
Got it working after re-running the carrier cab. Thanks.

Verizon Network Support can not get rid of my PPP Error 11

Yeap thats right three days with Network Support and they can not figure out why my phones not updating. Anyone else have any ideas before i myself agree with them that it is my equipment and toss it on ebay
It is a Alltel 6800 that has the Opal2.40 loader with the New Verizon 3.57 Update
Any ideas are better than anything i have at this point my mind is tired.
Forgot to mention tech support asked me to go ahead and clear the storage and reflash the verizon update again so i am at Verizon Factory Defaults other than I have changed the SID to match the local Verizon SID
what are you trying to do?
I am just trying to get Data Access for Pics and Video messages as well as Web Access .... The phone works for Voice calls and will send and recieve regular txt but anytime it Dials into #777 it comes back Error 11 PPP Connection Error
I have went into the ESPT and checked my secuirty and its [email protected] and vzw so thats ok.....the techs say that my phone is not updating its key its been soft reset and hard reset more times in the past 3 days than i have had sexual relations with anyone other than myself
well lets solve one problem at a time. first, the sexual relations issue. go get yourself laid a bunch of times and then we can continue working on your phone.
i'm not sure about this MyMDN business, but your mdn is your phone number. your credentials for the data connections should be your 10 digit phone number:
##########@vzw3q.com
password is vzw.
also, check your vzw mdn registry key and make sure it is set to your 10 digit phone number
[HKLM\Software\Arcsoft\Arcsoft MMS UA\Config\mm1\wspheader]
X-VzW-MDN should be your number
I'm married...think thats my problem on the first one someone told me the ring goes on the nice things about her go away
yes my phone number is what i ment by mdn @vzw3g.com
also i am a newbie on the registry so i will have to report back to you on that when i have time to download the software for the registry
ok i followed HKLM\Software\Arcsoft\Arcsoft MMS UA\Config\mm1\wspheader] and i have no entry for X VzW MDN
I have
Accept
Accept-Charset
Accept-Language-
User-Agent
x-wap-profile
Since that phone was Alltel to start, has Verizon ADDED that ESN to their database??? Most likely they haven't..... The ESN is the Equipment Identification Number. My understanding is that it gets sent when a data connection is initiated. The MDN(Mobile Directory Number)@vzw3g.com will work but I suspect the ESN is not validating.....
EDIT - Humm, I didnt even see your response above.... So add the Key above and see what happens....
Here's what that section should look like...
"User-Agent"="utstar68kv1"
"Accept"="application/vnd.wap.multipart.related"
"x-wap-profile"="http://uaprof.vtext.com/utstar/xv68k/xv68k.xml"
"X-VzW-MDN"="your 10 digit cell number"
"Accept-Charset"="us-ascii;utf-8;iso-10646-ucs-2;iso-8859-1;gb2312;gb13000"
"Accept-Language"="en"
...
yea i spent all of last week waiting on the to validate the ESN which they finally did waiting long enough is the key it just took them a while to get the ESN in the system and show a VX6800 and set-up all the "pervision" to match my phone (i know that is off in spelling)
Ok I added that string into the reg and did a soft reset and check the value to make sure it stayed and it did and I still get error 11
all i needed to enter was my telephone number not the @vzw3g.com on the end correct?

Here, I made you a cab to add the necessary info minus your cell number since I don't know it..... So here's what you do.
1. go into the registry and delete what you added. Hence - Delete whatever is listed under the WspHeader....
2. Run this cab.
3. Go back to WspHeader and change the X-VzW-MDN key from the 10 X's that I put in to your cell number.... ie: 1234567890, then exit the reg editor and reboot....
EDIT - The info in that cab came straight from MY registry.... Minus my cell number.....
Let us know...
ok cleared the reg...installed cab
reset
changed your xxxxx to my number and still ppp error 11
Have you tried to install DCD's carrier cab? I'd try that next, then reset.....
Get the Verizon carrier cab here
http://dcd1182.n715dp.com/index.php?dir=carriers/&download=dcd+Verizon+Carrier+20081031.cab
are u running a custom rom? try running dcd carrier cab, i have used it to fix a few phones i had switched to different carriers and data didnt work
Ok, quick question as i am new to the flashing never really tried any until now was too scared until Alltel screwed me by selling out.
Can i just put this on my card and run it from inside WM6.1?
Hey, i had this problem in the past. First let me say that i am not an HTC guru like most people here, so research anything i have to say.
Sounds like everything obvious is set correct, take a look in EPST. Dial ##778, select edit (but be careful not to edit anything, if you select view it will not allow you to see the needed information). It will ask for a security code, it is 000000. After it loads select view info, then Security.
The following information should be present.
HDR AN AUTH User Id : [email protected]
HDR AN AUTH Password : encrypted data characters
PPP User ID: encrypted data characters
PPP Password : encrypted data characters
S.IP DUN User name : [email protected]
In my case there were no encrypted data characters in the appropriate places.
The easiest way to resolve it from what i've read is to activate another device on your account then switch back to the desired unit. In my case i had to convice VZ Customer Service to completely reset my account. I believe there's a DMU code somewhere also that has to be 10. Search for PPP error code 11 security and i think you'll find something.
i got
HDR AN AUTH User Id : my#@vzw3g.com
HDR AN AUTH Password: a few numbers looks like my HEX ESN
PPP User ID: my#@vzw3g.com
PPP Password : vzw
S.IP DUN User name : my#@dun.vzw3g.com
I have another phone i could swap too and then swap back....its easy with verizon you just dial *228 and press 3..put in your phone number and last four of your ssn and your done
tried the swapping of the equipment and that didnt work...it did however get on line one time and i closed it and tried to connect again just to get the Error 11 again
Search for PPP error code 11 security, choose the "waiting for a dmu reset", i don't know how to embed it. That thread contains what i did to correct my problem.
Maybe the they are verizon specific, but your settings do not match mine nor any other xv6800 i have owned.
I have an idea, follow the instructions for the TP and getting EVDO on it.
Don't try this until you ask a few people first.

ok...here is my update on status...
Still no Data, BUT
When i was on the VZW Update ROM i had info in the following fields
HDR AN AUTH Password:
PPP Password
also
in the MIP default i had data under
AAA Shared Secret, and HA Shared Secret
NOW I used the latest dcd_titan_3.3.4.exe and I have nothing in these spots except 0000..ect under HDR AN AUTH Password
i went back to my LG 5500 and took allllll data off of my account waited like 4 hours and swapped back and still nothing.
only thing now is i think i will go back to the VZW Rom and call for a DMU reset and beg some more
I had the exact same problem after flashing to DCD 3.2.6. I had to call Verizon and have them generate a new A-key (26 digits).
You might have to call back a bunch of times or press the rep you get to generate the key for you (any of them can, they just don't know how).
Not sure why a new A-key would fix that problem, but I fought with it for quite a few days before finally getting it figured out. The data has worked flawlessly on my phone ever since.
Post back if this works if you would.
