PRI, PRL and 'Update PRI' in dcd ROM - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

Hi again,
So this new ROM is cool Got it working but now I have some questions:
What is PRI?
What is PRL?
And what is this 'Update PRI' app included in the Connections tab on the dcd ROM?
Ry

1. WHAT IS A PRL? Primary Roaming List?
It's a large but simple file used in most CDMA phones to determine which cellular carriers a phone should access, and in which priority. The phone is often searching all available cellular signals and comparing the results to it's PRL file, and chooses the channel that is most beneficial to the home carrier. It is primarily used to sort among roaming carriers. It is never used to find the strongest signal.
Not sure about PRI Primary Roaming Interface?

Is there a list of the PRI/PRL etc numbers for each carrier?
Im wondering if that will fix my evdo connection problem
im on the sprint 3.35.04 radio rom/dcd 3.2.5 wm6.1 rom/tnz carrier cab
where is this tab ? i couldnt see it

Although you can get these lists, it is not something you can change or modify. It is something that the phone does automatically and is not based off signal strength.

not only can you get these lists here http://corolada.com/prl/ but you can download whichever one you want for your respective carrier (but you probably want the newest one) and then you can change to it by going into your epst.
what im wondering is if i live in California, for example, and dial *228, then fly to New York and dial *228 does that do anything at all for my roaming? or is it just attempting to see if there was any new PRL since my last *228 dial

Sorry miss understood your question. If you fly to NYC then dialling *228 and option 2 would tell you phone check the PRL list for the best roaming possibilities in the area you are in.

What is the latest Sprint PRL?

I upgraded my from 60610 to 60611 and my data rates dropped down from about 800k to 300k. Is there a later release or should I go back to 60610?
60611 seems to have issues, I went back to 60610. Technically the PRL shouldn't have any effect other than you might have lost a tower and now it's utilizing another but with Sprint you never know
You can view and try a selection of PRL's from here: http://www.corolada.com/prl/
how does one manually upgrade/change the PRL?
Would someone please shed a lite on this topic. Alot of us do not even know what a PRL is and why changing it might be benificial.

a PRL is a list of roaming information and for evdo users it lists all the evdo towers also.
to manually update your prl, type ##prl# on the phones keypad, enter MSL, browse to the msl file.
I haven't had any issues with 60611, I didn't notice anything different after I flashed 3.16, I just assumed I had better update the PRL to avoid some of the roaming problems people had. When I do throughput tests I'm in to the 1Mb down range and 300-500 up.
Looks like there is a new PRL 60711...
http://www.corolada.com/prl/sprint/60711.prl
my phone asks for an unlock code when i type in ##prl# how do i get this code?
Try code 000000.
I am not sure if Dcd's rom includes it but no2chem's rom has the EPST (program to edit/view settings without *775) located within the \windows dir from which you can manually load the prl. You have to save the prl to your phone and then load by browsing to the file's location.

Thats where you enter you MSL. You can call customer service and ask for it. They asked me what I wanted it for and I told them I was going keep it for my records. I wouldn tell them too much.
Someone made a cab file that extracts the msl code. Used it when i switched to no2chems rom
I updated to 60611 after loading the new 3.16 ROM. I just updated to 60711 after seeing dalvarez7's post. Seems to work fine when I force the phone to roam.

Upgraded Verizon xv6800, now it's on Sprints Network

I seem to have the Sprint 3.16 Rom. But I do have the 3.27 Radio and even though I load the DCD 2.2.6 (verizon version) the phone ends up on the Sprint network.
I followed the directions based on this link http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=17667
and part of that includes:
4. Run the Unofficial carrier released rom 3.16 (this has the radio also)
>>>Click here for Sprint unofficial 3.16 Release
>>>This has the correct radio as well --that is why I recommend going this route first
**Special Note: Do not be concerned if you hear and see your phone reboot
and disconnect from your computer. This will happen multiple times as it
loads the 3.16. This process can take about 10mins or so to complete.
**Further Explanation: The reason for this step is to easily and safely get you
into the 3.16 real with the correct radio installed. Don't be concerned if you are on
another provider. You will take care of that when you download a custom rom
built specifically for your provider network.
This all seemd to work, but has left me on Sprints network.
What did I do wrong, or more importantly, how do I get the phone back onto Verizon's network?
Thanks Much. It's not a brick, but it's not real usefull right now.
I'd reflash.
Are you sure it's on Sprints' network and not that it just says "sprint" when dialing out?
You are not on Sprint, or shouldn't be. Open your web browser on your phone and go to www.showmyip.com. Scroll down to the paragraph where it states "Your currently assigned host name is..." and you should see Verizon in there somewhere. Mine shows Sprint, but I am with Sprint.
You can always change what the connection name is by going to Start, Settings, Connections, Connections and clicking Manage existing connections. Then select the Sprint name, click Edit and name it whatever you like. This will have no impact on your connection other than the name that pops up when connecting to the Internet.
No, it's Sprint all right
If I try to make a phone call, I get a message about an authentication problem that says to call Sprint, etc.
what happens when u try doing *228???
idk if you can find the latest prl file but i'd update that as it contains the tower lists
i use to get "Welcome to Verizon Wireless" messeges when i had US Cellular...and from wat i understood was that there was a mixup in the prl lists of tower codes etc
How do I apply a PRL list?
Sorry, I managed to find one. How do I apply it?
##PRL#...and it will ask for your msl...urs should be 000000 (thats wat i believe verizon has them set as)
browse to that file and it should load
Thanks, things are getting better now
Thanks to everyone for their kind help.
Just thought I would fill folks in on where I went wrong in case it's helpful to someone else.
First I missed a step in the direction when I was upgrading.
I skipped Step 5, to run the unlocker. I guess I thought that it was not necessary since the 3.16 Sprint Rom already included the 2.40 SPL. Anyway, once I ran the unlocker, it droped my SPL back to something like 1.20, but that version allowed me to run the 'new' 2.40 SPL, and once I had that, I could load the Radio.
That got me back to a kosher setup, but I was still on Verizon's network.
While I was waiting to understand how to load a PRL, I figured out that my phone was set to Automatic Roaming, and given that I am in a poor phone coverage area, my phone had roamed over to sprints network. Changing the Roaming setting to Automatic-A got me back on Verizon's network.
I still have authentication problems, but after doing a bit more searching, I think I need to call Verizon to clear that up. Once that's set, I think a *228 will get me the proper PRL.
So, While I don't have a working phone quite yet, I think I'm only minutes away from that.
Thanks again.
Got it working
Turns out I was not minutes away, I was hours.
I'll give the short version here.
The Sprint ROM that I had loaded left my EPST a complete mess. Reloading the stock verizon ROM fixed that (link below) then redoing the *228 worked, and then VZW could generate a A-Key for me and do some unspecified magic to get my internet access working.
Key thing appears to be to reload the Verzion ROM to reset the radio/EPST settings
Link to ROM is here

Alltel HTC PPC 6800 ROM **where are the experts??**

I have Alltel and have been trying NexVision's ROM, the DCD and and and, pretty much everything I could find.
Running the 3.27.00 Radio ROM and tried a lot of ROMS of the WM 6.1 ones
I cant get any of them working right!!
I dont seem to get any success after flashing connecting to the Internet and also constantly have the roaming indicator on (that triangle on the top).
Also it changed my MSC/SPC or whatever you call it from 000000 to something else which makes it impossible for me to use the *228 to update roaming and PRL via their automated telephone thing.
Now my question is,
which is the best working ROM for the Titan on alltel? Especially how do I get the thing to connect to the Internet again???
how do I get the Titan connected to QPST in order for me to change the SPC back to 000000?????
I appreciate any help, this forum is so helpful and such great work you guys!!!!!
keep it up!!!!

It sounds like you let the Sprint customizations run. Sound about right?
Here's what I had to do after the Sprint customizations locked me out of the PST:
Geckotek said:
I flashed back to the stock VZW ROM (third time I think), I made sure all of my provisioning issues with Verizon were worked out (finally had the tech "kick the switch").
1) Then I proceeded to load the 2.4 bootloader,
2) then the 3.16 Unauthorized Sprint ROM w/ radio,
3) then finally installed a cooked DCD 2.3.2 ROM.
Things to note:
1) I never let the Sprint ROM boot up
2) I had no signal so ran *22802 then hit End as soon as it connected
3) Still no signal after reboot
4) No A key, MSID, or MDN issues, but I did re-enter the MSID and MDN as discussed in other threads
5) After re-entering MSID and MDN then after reboot I had signal
6) never had to run *228 to OTA program (in the past programming with *228 has reversed the effect of re-entering the MSID and MDN)
In general, I feel that the OTA from VZW sends down some programming that conflicts with the 3.27 radio...but I have nothing to prove that.
GPS is running great (I just loaded the AstroGPSLauncher)
Not sure about Rev A. It does seem snappy. What's a good site to test from the phone?
I'm happy and not re-flashing until a solid radio for Verizon arrives.

that all worked for you on Verozon, but I got alltel!!!
i still want to know how to change my MSC SPC, the Master Code back to 000000
and also what would you recommend is the best ROM that works for ALLTEL and also has the internet working.
I did all the MSID and MSN entering by hand.
I do get service for text messaging and Phone service as well.
i cannot get access to the internet, and also am constantly roaming. thats my issues
I have Alltel and DCD's 1.7.x ROMS are GREAT! No GPS but I don't need it.
you have a link to the ROMs??

I have Alltel PPC6800 and I am running Radio 3.27 and DCD2.3.2 just fine. Download the kitchen and run it. Alfter everything is installed then dial the *228 and pick option 3 for new phone. That will update all the settings you need.
Here is all the stuff you need. Pick which alltel rom you want. I know they all work good, some have more features.

jamesfelarca:To change the PRL you can put ##775 in the dial pad and send. Then enter the 000000 for the unlock code and select update PRL ->Menu->Edit and select the current PRL (probably a good idea to have this on your memory card) http://www.corolada.com/prl/ The one you want is 30031. Also you may want to do the ##778 unlock code 000000 and then check the NAM settings MDN and MSID should be your 10 digit number.

A) What my instructions help with is flashing a Sprint ROM to a non-Sprint phone
B) My instructions show you the only way I've ever seen how to remove the MSL from the phone.
So if you want your phone to work correctly, I suggest you give it a try. Your mistake was letting the Sprint customizations run....as far as I know, that is not easily reversible.

Based on my experience, reflashing the ROM doesn't remove the MSL lock applied by the Sprint ROM. That's why I reverted to the stock bootloader and ROM/Radio.

Glad it works for you. I had problems with the radio. I was only receiving about 2/3 of sent SMS and OfficeSync did not update properly.
Here is a link to DCD's 1.7.0 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=372853
I used the kitchen and it works very well for me.
i have alltel and update my ppc6800 fine all i had to do to remove the indicator icon was to do *228 option 3 wich is activate.

I'm not sure how to change the MCL back to 000000 but if you haven't already you should be able to use GetSPC to obtain the code for your device. Once you're in EPST check your Home SID to make sure this is correct. If not there's a good chance you'll be roaming all the time. Also make sure you have the newest PRL (*228 Option 2)
For your internet connection, check EPST Security and M.IP Default Profile and make sure your NAI and UserIDs are set to your phone number @alltel.net and your AAA shared secret and PPP Password should be "alltel" without the ". Your HDR AN AUTH Password should be your ESN (Hex).
I recommend dcd 2.32 also. It's what I'm using and it's working great.
Sounds like everyone else covered the how to's... but before you try anything else you might want to wait for DCD's new kitchen which will work with the official radio released for Sprint today.
Roaming Order
Does anyone know if there is a way to change the order of carriers my phone tries to roam to?
I have Alltel and apparently Sprint is at the top of there list. I live in an area where Sprint service sucks and there is no EVDO, but the Sprint tower is just close enough to be seen so I never get onto the Verizon Towers. I would like to set my Roaming order to be Verizon first then Sprint etc...
Thanks,
mr.ellsworth

PRL Capability(Default Roaming) Question

Hi All,
I'm a Sprint Mogul user and I've noticed that I can't roam on the verizon network anymore after radio upgrade. I compared my ##PRL# settings to another un-upgraded Mogul and the only difference I have is that the PRL Capability(Default Roaming) setting on my phone is set to 0 and on the un-upgraded phone it's set to 160.
I tried to edit this setting and it won't let me change it. I have the correct code to edit these settings for my phone from Sprint, but it won't let me change this setting. Does anyone know how to change this?
I also loaded the new release from Sprint hoping this would fix it, but it hasen't.
Thanks,
X2K
mines acting funny now with the new upgrade as well. When I'm in a roaming area it actually shows the roaming signal and I keep getting Error: 64 when sending text messages.
I'm using the 60711 PRL, getting ready to change to 60610 PRL to see if that does anything. I cant seem to get IOTA to run to see if thats the problem either. I think its all weirded out in dcd's ROM

[Q] Is it possible to change *228?

I have kind of a weird question. Most carriers use *228 to program phones over the air. I'm wondering if it is possible to change that to another number (for example *229 or something like that)? Is the *228 number part of the phone or is it a carrier thing?
As far as I know it's a carrier thing. Verizon uses *228 for example. Sprint uses a convoluted series of menu screens which is annoying because you have to have an as-close-to-stock rom as possible in order to utilize it.
And as far as I know you can't change it. Otherwise I'd be using more AOSP roms...
The reason I was asking is because I reprogrammed a Sprint phone to use on a local carrier and they use *229. I have working voice, text, 3G data, & MMS. So do you think I would be able to just dial *229 to do a PRL update or would I always have to update it manually with CDMA WS? I realize I probably won't ever be able to update the data settings over the air since its a Sprint phone, but I was just wondering about the PRL updates.
