I wanted to know if anyone is experiencing similar issues.
I have a Hermes 100 O2 with a recently updated 1.34 Cingular ROM.
I also live in an EDGE area that borders a UMTS area.
What I've noticed is that whenever I transition from one area to the next (like in the car) I have had everything from lost calls, to bluetooth functionality dropping, to having the phone lock up and having to do a soft reset to get function restored.
Once I'm inside the area, the phone acts normal. It's just ANY transistion from UMTS to EDGE or visa versa is when I get this behavior.
I was on the Dopod 1.23 ROM previously and experienced none of this.
Anyone with ideas or similar experiences?
i downgraded to v1.31. on v1.34, when i use file explorer to look at files in storage card, it also freeze/lockup.
i believe v1.31 is more stable. also it' aku 2.6!
Interesting thought.
I know Sleuth255 is running 1.31. Maybe that's why.
I may go that way.
I am daily transitioning from EDGE to UMTS usingn 8525 ROM 1.34 and no problems
Are you in iddle mode or dedicated mode?
Are making a voice call or data ?
For voice it should work both ways unless the network parameters were not optimized in your area
For data it will work only from 3G to 2G with a slight interuption
if you are on EDGE and transitioning into UMTS it will not work. you will stay on EDGE though and no interuption

I was only referring to voice. Once per week I make a trip that starts in an Edge zone, enter a small 3G Zone, exit that zone back to Edge for about 15 miles then enter a 3G zone at the end of the trip.
The main thing I have noticed is that whatever zone I am in when I make the call, the phone usually works until the call is over. Then I have had everything from bluetooth drops to signal failure, once the entire phone locked up.
All of those scenarios result in me having to soft reset the phone.
On one occasion, I received a call while in the small 3G zone and upon leaving the zone, the phone dropped the call. In fact the person called me back 3 times and each call was dropped after about 2 minutes.
I'm not sure what to think at this point.
The fact that 3G Zone 1 is King of Prussia PA (Cingular PA headquarters) and the 2nd 3G zone is Philadelphia PA
has me thinking, they may still be trying out different things as these areas are 3G aware but not updated on the Cingular coverage map yet.
I had much better consistency on the Dopod 1.23 ROM. It never missed a call or dropped transitioning from one zone type to another.
Why don't you just set the phone to stay on the EDGE network and not switch to 3G? This should solve your problems. I do this often, though not for the reasons you discussed but to save battery life! I can't even get a full 12 hours on 3G these days in NYC!

I'm glad I'm not the only one with that problem. I got a full 7 hours this AM. I was using LogMeIn for 4 of them, but I was really surprised at how fast the battery drain was.
1. All 3G software devices including Hermes are still buggy and new releases are still coming. CW is focusing oh the LG CU500 for the launch with Video Share. service
2. The Cingular 3G network is going an optimization campaign which might last until January. Ericsson and Lucent patches to remedy some major issues are scheduled for the end of the year. The GSM/EDGE R99/HS two-way handover is not yet optimum.

Good Idea.
I guess the fact that it seemed to work better on an asian ROM than Cingular's own ticked me off a bit.
The clear thought is to force EDGE for the time being and see what develops with 3G around here in the near future.
I also saw this, especially the call dropping and then each following call also dropping - all this when I often had excellent coverage. I haven't tried Cingular's ROM though.
EDIT: I tried the Cingular ROM and after about 15 mins (plus the amount of time to download the HTC ROM again) I am reloading HTC's 1.18 TyTN ROM. For some reason, my phone wouldn't stay connected to the network longer than about 30 seconds, then it would drop the connection and stay disconnected for minutes - sometimes I had to reboot to get my network back!
I hope HTC releases an update soon, and I hope Cingular gets their **** together and fixes transitioning between GSM and UTMS.

Were you in a 3G area when you tried the Cingular ROM?

Yes, but I tried it in both GSM and UTMS ("Auto") modes.
Cingular ROM downgrade error
Good morning, i have a Vodafone PDA1605 (TyTN etc.) I've updated the ROM with new Cingular version available on this site (1.34.502, bootloader 1.06), now I need to downgrade to older version with same CID (1.30.502, bootloader 1.04) but I receive an ERROR "Wrong Vendor ID" every time i retry to flash the ROM (following the procedure... restarting the update without disconnecting the PDA).
I've also tryed to put other ROM with bootloader 1.06 (new Vodafone FRA... i will upload when tested) but I receive the Error: "Wrong Model.."
Could someone help me?

To get around this issue, it seems like the consensus is to install the original ROM that came with your phone. Hopefully that will put your bootloader back at 1.04. (Your Vendor CID must match exactly when doing anything with 1.06)
Once you get it back to your original ROM, you should then be able to move up.
all of this is assuming your original ROM was a 1.04 BL
Hope this helps.
Is there an easy way to switch from GPRS to UMTS?
l3G3ND, I have the same problem as you but I don't have the Cingular Rom. I have the original Rom (including original radio Rom) that came on the HTC Tytn and I get same issue as you. Only difference that I don't have to soft reset.. I just have to turn the phone radio off and back on again in Comm Manager.
Just letting you know so you can see that perhaps it's not the Cingular Rom??
Couple of days ago I flashed my Vario II with the HTC 2.05 ROM + 1.38.10 Radio ROM. Before that, I was happily using the SA HTC 1.35 ROM.
After updating the ROM, I noticed that I could send and recieve texts, but not make or recieve any calls. I though it was just a network problem so I spent yesterday in Brighton visitng my sister.
Now, although I couldn't make or recieve any calls at home, when I got down to Brighton I was able to call. When I got home to my girlfriends later that night, I was able to connect to the web and browse a few pages (missed MOTD and Rugby. Needed the scores!).
Back at home today, and I'm still getting the same problem. I've now tried Radio ROM's 1.38.10, 1.35 and 1.27 without any luck.
If I force the signal to GSM, the signal strength shows 2 bars, so pretty weak. If I set it to Auto, it states that 3G is available and at full strength! Clearly its being reported incorrectly?
Now, is it the case that the 3G signal is just about detectable but too weak to send and recieve calls? Because it can detect a faint 3G signal, is that why it appears not to be falling back on GSM? I'm guessing here.
If thats the case, why the hell did I not get any problems with the 1.18 Radio ROM is the SA firmware?
I've found the location of my local T-Mobile Mast, so I'm going to pop over near it so I can rule out a signal problem. But apart from that, is there anything else that could be causing this problem?
Hi there, I seem to be having the same problem.
I have a week old Vario II, as my mobile number has yet to be ported to Tmobile I am still using my old phone.
However, evening I tried making a call from my Vario II and just received 3 beeps and a hang up. When the intended caller tried to call me back the phone rang but again ended the call after 1 ring. I tried a couple of different SIM cards with the same results.
I had SIM unlocked and SuperCID'd the handset a few days ago, and thought I may have buggered something up along the way so I done a hard reset. This time the 3G icon didn't appear but I was able to make calls. A few minutes later the 3G icon appeared and once again I was back to not being able to make/receive calls.
Gurubumsmack, have you managed to resolve your issues at all ?
Also being a bit wet behind the ears with the Hermes, what OS, Radio builds would you recommmend ?
Thanks, Dan
Try forcing the Band to GSM instead of Auto (3G) and see what happens.
Mine is now working perfectly with the 1.38.10 Radio. I left it on GSM for a couple of days and then slapped it back to Auto (3G). Has been fine for about a week now touch wood.
The only fault I can put it down was a local transmitter issue.
I'm currently using the HTC 2.11 WM5 AKU3.3 ROM, which comes with the 1.38.10 Radio. Stability is top notch and speed great.
I decided to hold off flashing to WM6 until development on that settles down a bit. Literally a new ROM being released every week over there!
It's true that 2.11 WM5 AKU3.3 combined with 1.38.10 RADIO is rocking stable...
I have since discovered that my IMEI has been blocked. This phone was bought off eBay in January but apparently the block was only placed on August 7th. I'm gutted, I'm really hoping this can be resolved or that I am covered by insurance.

Hi everyone,
I'd greatly appreciate any help anyone can give me. Here is what happened:
About 2 weeks ago I upgraded radio from 1.38 to 1.50, which worked and everything was fine.
Last week I went on holiday to a little place on the beach, where signal has normally been a problem. Not so this time, I had plenty of signal and was talking and texting fine.
On Tuesday it worked all morning and then in the afternoon the signal dropped off and it said "no service". I cycled the phone radio a few times and rebooted the phone, all to no avail. I concluded that the local cell tower had a fault and that I wasn't in range of another.
On Wednesday we took a trip and, as I expected, a few miles down the road my phone picked up signal again, consistent with the faulty cell tower hypothesis. I recieved a load of texts that had been waiting for me, made a few calls and everything was fine. When we got back to where we were staying, the signal held - I presumed the fault had been fixed.
Later that evening the signal dropped out again as before. I assumed that perhaps the fault hadn't been sufficiently fixed in the cell tower, so while annoying I presumed when I got to a different area the signal would come back like it did before.
However, it didn't. We came home on Friday and it hasn't picked up a signal, just says "no service". If I manually search for networks it finds O2 (as well as all the others) and I can select it, but it still says "no service".
I plugged in a T-Mobile sim, and it found signal immediately, BUT I cannot send/recieve calls or texts, people calling me hear a strange problem about it being unable to connect their call, and text message delivery reports give the same (not the message that one gets if the phone is switched off) - so it is obviously on the network but something is stopping it using the network - when I try and make a call I instantly get those four beeps which indicate the call has ended.
I then phoned O2 and said I think my SIM is dead, and they agreed and are sending me a new one. However, I then tried my old O2 sim again and got a brief signal, but still the same problem as the T-Mo sim - cannot send/recieve calls/texts/anything.
My O2 sim now says no service, although I have tried it in another phone and it works fine.
Since then I have re-flashed 1.38, hard reset the OS (Sleuth's v3) and flashed the O2 WM6 official rom with 1.47, all making no difference. I've tried forcing 2G and 3G and particular frequencies (it usually says it cannot apply these band settings, but after several reboots I sometimes manage to change it).
So, in summary:
Signal is very intermittent and usually says "no service".
Even when I do have signal, I cannot send/recieve calls/texts.
My O2 sim definitely works.
I have tried radios 1.50, 1.38 and 1.47 to no avail.
I have hard reset the ROM (Sleuth's v3) and flashed the O2 official ROM to no avail.
Desperate for help! Many thanks
I have also cleaned the SIM, SIM contacts in the phone, and checked that I can access the SIM card from the phone, and I can get the phone's IMEI etc so at least part of the radio seems to be working, and as mentioned before the SIM definitely works.
Thanks
Update:
I have tried Orange post-pay and Orange pre-pay sims and they both work fine, so it doesn't appear to be my phone that has broken.
However, my original O2 sim continues to work in another Nokia phone, suggesting that the sim isn't broken.
It may just be the pairing of that sim with my phone, which is the only thing I can think of. Does the Hermes apply sim "profiles" to sims which are inserted? Have I messed up the profile associated with that sim? My new O2 sim should come next week so we will see if that one works.
Also, the error messages of the text delivery reports sent to my phone while my O2 sim was in it say "Interworking Not Available" (this is from an Orange phone). Any idea what that means?
Thanks to anyone who can help.

Shot in the dark here: how did you get your Hermes? Could it be blacklisted from O2 - i.e. could it be stolen from an O2 subscriber. (I would assume by the person you got it from, I am not accusng you of anything!)
Hi Todd,
Thanks for your reply. It's not something I'd thought of but it could fit the scenario. I got the phone off eBay back in January and had no problems with it until now. It's actually a T-Mobile branded one, (i.e. the MDA) rather than the XDA Trion. When I phoned O2 to ask if my account had been blocked and to get a new sim the person I spoke to said there was nothing to indicate that my account would have been blocked, which would presumably include any blocked IMEIs that were listed there. Also, if the phone had been blocked after being listed stolen it would have been blocked on all networks wouldn't it? If my new sim doesn't work I will phone O2 and ask them if my IMEI is blocked, so thanks for your suggestion.
As updated in the first message, my IMEI has been blocked, causing all the problems. The reason the Orange sims worked must be because the block hasn't propagated to the Orange network yet.
Hey i discovered i had the same problem today aswell i bourght the phone of Ebay for the first day it was working then next day i upgraded to WM6 and it stop working i did some research on why it stop working and here it was
Orange & O2:
If you place an active orange or
O2 sim into a blacklisted handset you
phone will not show any signal strength
at all! If the handset is a Nokia then a
"SIM card registration failed" message
will also be displayed. If your handset is an
Ericsson then an "Invalid Mobile" message
will be displayed. For most other manufacturers
the handset will simply show no signal!
Vodafone & T-Mobile
If you place an active Vodafone or T-Mobile sim into a blacklisted handset, the phone will appear to function perfectly UNTIL you try to make an outgoing call. When you try to call out from the handset you will hear a sequence of beeps and then the call will be dropped!!
wow nice story man , it seemed like a movie or something
anyway before i finish it i expected that your problem is that the phone IMEI is blacklisted . since its working with orange and other sims . its usually normal to get signal but u wont be able to make or recieve phone calls .
good luck .
I’m having my Hermes now since January 2007. In the last months I was flashing a lot of different Roms and Radios, everything was okay until at about October or something like this.
In September 2007 I went to Egypt because of a business trip, I stayed there until end of February. When I left Austria, I had Edhaas SuperD-Lite and Radio 1.48.00 on my Hermes, both was running without any problems.
In Egypt I noticed that nobody from Austria was able to call me, I thought by myself this is because of some problems with the roaming.
When I came back to Austria end of February I was told from my friends that they couldn’t reach me always, very often they where connected to the mobile box. I noticed something similar, sometimes when I tried to make a phone call it was not possible. In all this cases my hermes showed me 100% net.
So I started to flash different Roms and Radios, I switched off HSDPA, I was setting the band from auto to GSM and so on. All this things were working for maybe one day, but that the problem started again. So I installed the officially HTC WM6 version including Radio and ExtRom without any software in addition, but again – the same. Finally I bought a prepaid sim card to test another sim, but still the same. My “old” sim card is working w/o problems in another phone.
Now I’m completely out of ideas what to do next (beside sending the phone to HTC).
Any ideas what else I could do?
Edit: I noticed now with my normal simcard in another phone again problems in sending a sms and making a phone call. I had to resend the sms 3 times before it worked, then I tried to make a phone call and it didn't work the first time. So maybe its my simcard too?
I have had my TITAN since about a week after its release. At that time, I was using an O2 SIM card and everything was perfect and fine.
Around 4 weeks ago, I switched to Talk Mobile as my O2 contract was up and I got a deal from Talk Mobile. Since then, my phone has been a disaster - but I dont think the TITAN is at fault.
Around 50% of all my calls get dropped. Typically, when this happens, I will be connected to a 3G/HSDPA network with decent signal strength. The call will drop, I look at the phone and the signal has been lost entirely. Then the signal comes back but at GPRS or EDGE. I also often have a GPRS or EDGE connection in areas I know have strong 3G signal. The phone will transition to 3G eventually but it is a right pain.
I am already on my 2nd Talk Mobile SIM card and will try a 3rd this week. I have tried hard resetting my phone too. None of this has helped and the network have so far been typically useless in trying to help so I was wondering if any of the bright people on here would be able to help at all.
Many thanks
Sounds like a network issue, I am on Vodafone and have not had any problems with the handset. Make sure you have correct network settings installed on the Phone like APN's etc for Talk Mobile
Are they listed in htc connection setup? if so run it.
Talk mobile piggybacks vodafone iirc. i get this problem of switching 3g/edge/gprs with vodafone and talkmobile. with talkmobile if its a phone they don't sell they don't seem to have the settings for internet/mms etc. i usually have to manually input them.
If you need to manually input the Talkmobile settings, they're all on the website.
Click the second orange button 'Talkmobile phone settings' and they should be listed in there.
talkmobile.co.uk/get_your_settings.html
Thanks to all for the responses. When I run HTC Connection Setup app, there is a setting for Talk Mobile which I selected. Before doing that, I had no internet as obviously Windows Phone on its own doesnt have the right settings.
I will try manually entering the APN details next and see if that helps, but I dont think the APN affects voice calls if I am right?
dumped o2 and got my titan with vodaphone. No issues at all. Maybe you can Complain ?.

I am complaining vigorously
You've checked the aerial right? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18523952&postcount=12
I have a Talk Mobile sim (I got it as it was an offer - unlimited data) and a Vodafone sim. I have the same problems with Talk Mobile.
E.g. today I could only get Edge in London, and it seemed to be slower than basic G. When I swapped to Vodafone sim, in same area, suddenly good H signal, and fairly fast.
Also my pop3 email sometimes just errors with the Talk Mobile sim.
When I first got this TM sim in November it was great, downloaded no end of music and data on the Titan. Past few weeks it has been rubbish. I find calls are ok though.
Haven't got as far as complaining.... yet.... sorry have no answer but just to say that I don't think it's the Titan at fault.
