I hope someone can shed some light on this.
I have follow all the instruction that I could find to setup the aGPS on this phone.
The problem is, some time it only take about 10 to 20 seconds to lock on the satellite. Some time it takes a long time like 10 to 15 minutes, and sometime never.
I would like to get to the end of this. I have cooked and uses DCD's Rom, none of which makes any difference.
I must have flashed this phone for over 20 times and ech time with the same results.
It would work mostly in the day time (afternoon) but not at night or early AM.
Hope someone would be able to point me to the right direction.
Thanks in advance.
Update 10/17/08
Here is what I have done wrong. I have remove/delete my data connection from the phone .
"Wifi will not work with the PDE Server. It will prevent the agps data from being downloaded if it is on."
"This requires a data connection. It will use 100 bytes (1/10 of 1Kilobyte) when accessing the PDE servers."
Update! This Works without connecting to data!
Go to your Comm Manager, switch to Flight Mode, switch back to Phone mode, launch your GPS program.
Works every time for me so far. I have tried TomTom and Garmin so far.

Now what have you DONE? Have you applied the TITAN aGPS fix found in the WIKI (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=VerizonAGPSFix) ? You will need to find the Telus aGPS settings but the entire first portion is relevant. Try that and let us know then what happens. Also, make sure your location in "Phone Settings" is set to on. BTW, why a custom ROM when Telus has a pretty solid GPS rom out?
I also BELIEVE this is the correct IP and Port for Telus. I found it at this link from PPCGEEKS... (http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=36377&highlight=Bell+aGPS)

okay, so i've heard everyone having very good luck w/ gps on dcd's 3.1.2 rom and radio 3.39.10, with satellite locks as quick as ~20-30 seconds. Mine take a very long time, sometimes in excess of 10 minutes. Here's what I have going on:
dcd's 3.1.2 rom
radio 3.39.10
gps settings: program: com4, hardware: none, baud rate: 4800, manage gps automatically
location service setting: on
[HKLM\Software\HTC\SUPL AGPS] GPSMode:4 (0X000004)
QuickGPS installed
Google Maps Mobile installed
Gps Viewer installed
I open Gps Viewer and set it to COM4: and click Open GPS, and it takes at minimum 10 minutes to lock onto even 3 satellites and get a date and time and lat/long, and any other status. Something can't be right here.
I used to have dcd's 3.0.4 rom and never had a problem getting a gps lock.
Any ideas on what to check?

Could take up to 10 minutes for first lock depending on weather conditions, location of satellites, view of sky etc. Once it gets an initial lock, it'll lock in 10-30 seconds.
Though he could have Sprint, in that case a fresh PRI update would make him pretty happy, but I'd be willing to bet he's on Verizon.

Guys, at the moment there IS no solution for Verizon. Verizon does not provide info to their PDE aGPS server. We don't even know if they USE a PDE aGPS server. The ONLY reason Sprint Moguls can lock so fast is because of aGPS and that alone. If Sprint didn't have a PDE server, they would be seeing the exact same lock times as Verizon.
This is why I've been going on and on and on about why we need an official software update from Verizon. That way we can analyze it and try to extract aGPS server info from it.

well in adition to the agps server info, i think the sprint PRI may change a couple other gps-related values, but that can be done manually to an xv6800. thats what im working on proving right now.

btw, I am on Verizon, and my biggest issue is that with dcd's 3.0.4 i had no issues, gps linked in a matter of seconds, no more than 30 on a cloudy, even rainy day. now it takes forever with 3.1.2. granted, today i locked on 7 satellites at once, but it took a good 15-20 minutes. any help you can give me, dcd and other senior members, is greatly appreciated!
ps - i'm starting a new job that is going to be a sales job that is completely on my own, and gps would help me out sooo much since i'll be driving all over ohio!
oh, and we have had beautiful weather here lately, so clear skies and obstructions are not an issue at all.
when i do get a lock, it's pretty damn accurate.
im on VZ, and inside 10-15 foot thick cement/steel roofing, and it takes me about 45 seconds to get a lock. outside is around 10-30 seconds. i doont know what else to tell you, except try it out on a CLEAN DCD ROM.
Also not getting any GPS lock. Let it set for over 45min and nada.
I can't find GPSView anywhere... But I found something else that was similar I think.
However, it finds the GPS... But it just sits there. Spewing 'no' data, as if it can't find any sats at all. Changed the reg key to all the values--nothing.
Not looking for a solution, just letting you know I am part of the "Don't work" statistic.
30 second lock
I am on Verizon in Maine and consistently get a 30 second lock using Google Maps with the phone near a window in the office.
Vets...wow I am a newbie here and let me ask a question and then step out the way to keep reading...
I am a Senior Technician and have this new VZW HTC6800 for about 2-wks now. GPS is nice and I have NO (NADA) no need for it but having it would be just a nice options. So ignoring the fact that I really do not need to have gps....
What benefits would I have just updating to the rom over the current device? Put it like this when I install WinXP I tweak all the settings to get the most out and remove unneeded MS stuff out. As a tech I want the most performance without all the mess that slows it down. Seeing that I am this type of person/tech would changing the rom for this fact be good or just stay where I am with the current device settings? My main usage on the phone is the:
1. Voice dial call (a must since I drive a lot!!!)
2. Phone function of course
3. HTC Home Customizer to have all my features close
4. Sometimes, a need to open Word, Excel, pdf files
So again with what I do...again...would changing the rom for this fact be good or just stay where I am with the current device settings?
Side note: any links to new rom & steps to install?
Ok, so thanks to the help of a bunch of people I was able to flash my xv6800 with the latest rado and os ROMS. I started playing with the GPS now.
I've followed the instructions in the FAQ thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=363431
Enabled location in phone settings, downloaded and installed VisualGPsce and the Gps Viewer but I cannot get any response from any satellites.
GPS Viewer, when I turn it on has all kinds of info scrolling in the message box but never even hints at connection.
Before I activated my phone after flashing the new ROMS today, I saw what I thought was the GPS icon on my phone. But after doing *228 (I think that's it) on Verzion the icon is gone. May just be a coincidence but maybe not.
Thanks for any help.
Edit: What ROM, RADIO, and PRI are you using? "latest" doesn't mean much. Need specifics. You can check this under Device Information control panel.
Install google maps
set the com port to 4, baud 4800.
Enable GPS in Google Maps
See if it says Seeking Sattelites (0) and if hte number changes. If it does it's finding sats.
Also make sure you're trying this outdoors.
Lastly I'd do the aGPS fix for Verizon that gc14 posted. WOAH faster locks.
ROM iw dcd 3.2.6 radio is 3.42.50.
I did load google maps and the number sits at 0. I have tried this outside with my garman right next to it and it was able to connect.

Follow Shadow-Tech's Guide for aGPS on Alltell.... HERE
Alltel has different PDE server info. But I think you can apply the same method using that info. I believe it's posted somewhere on this site and/or the PPCgeeks site.
as a side note, for Bell users:
I am on Bell, and for some reason I didn't have to do this method to get my aGPS to work. If you install the Bell carrier cab from dcd and update the PRI, the aGPS just works. It has something to do with the NV setting? I would love to understand more about why mine was so simple. The thread that I used was this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=419855
Can someone explain what the newest PRI does and why aGPS all of a sudden works? I'd be most appreciative.
Any other ideas to try I would love to get this up and running .
THANKS NITRO! I will try this out and post my results.
Please post all discussion/issues/comments regarding Bell Mobility GPS/aGPS in this thread.
aGPS locking up
I'm running Bell, dcd 3.2.5, radio 3.42.50 with aGPS working just fine, for a while. After a couple of times of turning the screen off (Power button), or standby, or whatever you call that mode...TomTom 7.450 (and GPStoday and Intelligolf all latest versions) stop locking via aGPS. Normally I get locks in 5-10 seconds with all these programs but afterwards I get nothing. TomTom shows satellites but won't lock on to any of them.
Please ask me questions if I missed anything. Any ideas?
I used to have the same issue. I upgraded to dcd 3.2.6. Still with radio 3.42.50. I also did the aGPS setting enable per another thread. Since then, I no longer have that problem. I get quick satellite fixes for days on end without the need to soft reset.
Power mangement
Hi all,
easy fix, I had the same issue. It is the power management. Once you put your phone to stand by the GPS will not come back up unless you use Quick GPS (don't know why but it bring is out of standby) or you can do the following regedit.
In the regestry I found these settings for power management.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\Interfaces]
"{EB91C7C9-8BF6-4a2d-9AB8-69724EED97D1}"="Power-manageable display"
"{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}"="Power-manageable NDIS miniports"
"{8DD679CE-8AB4-43c8-A14A-EA4963FAA715}"="Power-manageable block devices"
"{A32942B7-920C-486b-B0E6-92A702A99B35}"="Generic power-manageable devices"
Each one of the {} strings are an IClass for other device including the GPS. The one found in the GPS was this "{A32942B7-920C-486b-B0E6-92A702A99B35}. When I deleted the IClass string out of the following keys, you are now able to put your phone to standby and the GPS will keep running.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\GPSID]
"IClass"="{A32942B7-920C-486b-B0E6-92A702A99B35}"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\SerialGPS]
"IClass"="{A32942B7-920C-486b-B0E6-92A702A99B35}"
Thanks for the info guys! I'll try deleting the registry items first and see what happens.
AGPS and Data usage
Hi, I am hoping someone can answer this for me, does AGPS use data, is it costing me money to use it? I have read many posts and still I am confused. I am using dcd rom 3.2.6, radio 3.42.50 PRI 2.02_007. Thanks
I noticed a significant decrease in lock times after going to PRI 2.02_007, FWIW.

Yes, by default the assisted mode will request to transfer small amounts of data (download satellite ephemeris data) over the network everytime the GPS is initiated and when satellite coverage is obscurred (location determination from a IP defined assistance server).
I have confirmed this with my online data summary with Telus.
Thanks for the for the help.

About 10 seconds. It was way longer before. Sometimes a few mintues.
I'm running DCD 3.2.6 with radio 3.42.50 and PRI 1.34_007. I have ridiculous lock times most of the time. I don't use QuickGPS or anything else other than Google Maps. I've waited minutes sometimes to get a lock. I live in Milton, ON, and use GPS typcially anywhere in that area and the GTA (Toronto) area. I don't use GPS all that often and perhaps that's why is slow to lock each time I try and use it?
Regarding the PRI comment made earlier in this thread. I'm curious how you upgrade your PRI? I've tried the "Update PRI" icon in Settings | Connections, and although it reboots after doing something it's always the same rev afterwards. It also returns an error after it tries to update and prior to the reboot -"backup EFS failed" in a window with a window title of "PPST". Tap okay to that window and the phone soft reboots and nothing has changed.
I also could not update PRI using the icon provided by DCD. He provided the attached cab version in another post. You will have to install it on your device, then run /windows/ppst.exe
Also, be sure to do the GPS fix found at this link:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=TitanGpsFix
These 2 things should fix your lock times.

I've tried practically everything I've found. Telus cab file, QPST method, changed registry settings, etc. Nothing seems to work. So, I'm hoping someone here can tell me what I am doing wrong or what I am missing.
Phone: XV6800
Carrier: Verizon
Radio: 3.42.50
D: 3.56
P DXAAXAM-4350H
I am running Build 21501 (via this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=497303)
Location On is set
GPS Port is 4, hardware port is NONE, baud rate is 4800, Manage GPS Automatically is checked
I've done the QPST Configuration thing a few times with different IP addresses/port numbers (Verizon, Telus, some other ones) and none seem to work. At the moment, my settings are:
EnableGPS = 1
EnableGPSSmartMode = 1
EnablePDEIPFrom = 1
GPSMode = 1
NumberFixes = 999999999
QoSAccurace = 50
QosPerformance = 89
ServerIP = 216.198.139.92
ServerPort = 8889
TimeBetweenFixes = 1
I am using Google Latitude ("Use GPS" is checked and "Managed by Windows" is selected) and it just sits at "Seeking GPS satellites(0)" regardless of where I am located (home/work/inside/outside/etc).
I am guessing that either I need a different radio, different IP/Port or my device actually has some hardware issue.
Can anyone help me?
Try to use something like htc gps tool or gpsvier to see your status. Also in those programs see if you see red dots on the satelitte view. If not I bet location is off or you are using a custom rom and did not rool back to pregps verizon rom before going custom. Verizon blocks gps with mr1 on custom. So do below directions.

Here is the easiest way to fix your vx6800's gps.
Here buddy, you want to follow my guide. This is the way I fixed my vx6800's gps when a verizon ROM upgrade locked out the gps. Just read it and follow it perfectly and you will have no problems from then on.

This method has helped me, and many others out. I made the steps to be easy for almost anyone to follow. I also provide the downloads.

Hi-
I believe the following are the correct settings for Verizon:
ServerIP=66.174.95.132
ServerPort=8888
And don't forget that after you do the setup using QPST you must edit the registry and change settings there. I have had no trouble on my Verizon XV6800 using QPST and getting the GPS to work. I have the same radio as you and the same ROM.
There are tutorials on this forum and on PPCGeeks that provide the complete instructions. This one has worked for me many times. Note that shadow-tech tells you to "see post #2 if you're not on Alltel". There he gives you the settings for Verizon and other carriers:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=36377&highlight=Alltel+GPS
Good luck!
It took me almost a month to figure how to get my GPS working. Finally after reading hundreds of post, someone mentioned that when you dial *228 to program your phone the friggin sheisters at verizon use this opportunity to disable the GPS all over again. Relock, flash back to MR1, unlock using nue 2.47, flash radio 3.42.50, flash custom ROM of choice ( I am using the newest 6.5 build 21222 from PPC Geeks), DO NOT "update roaming" by dialing *228, and you should be good to go. All of this is a lot easier if you flash from an SD card < 2 GB. Good luck.
P.S. screw Verizon.

Thanks for the input. I went through and did everything you said. I am having issues reinstalling Google Maps (it just pops up an unsuccessful message in the middle of it) but I put Live Search on and it can't get the GPS to lock either. So it seems I am still screwed.
Let me state this again for you. You must roll back to pregps rom before goign custom on a verizon phone. Please follow the link I provided. Also do not use google maps. Use htc gps tool or gps viewer to see your signal. That way you can see if your gps is even trying to get a lock. If you do not see red dots on the satelittle view of either program than you don't have location on or you did not roll back before going custom.
I went to your link and started at step one. When it came time to install the Radio and ROM, I used the 3.42.40 radio and the new 21222 ROM from here: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=903142
He just updated the rom again last night and I just flashed to that rom to see if it would help. Now I can't seem to install any apps on there anyway so I guess whether the GPS works or not doesn't really matter until I get that fixed.
Everything I try to install tells me it was unsuccessful.
Edit: Actually I am mistaken. Skyfire installed fine.
And I have downloaded GPS Viewer since the other one wouldn't install and it found the GPS (COM 4, 4800 baud rate) and I click "Open GPS" and my LAT/LON are both 0.0" and it tells me "No Fix".
Are you outside? Is your data connection active? Did you look in satellite view to see if you see red dots? How long did you wait for a fix?
I was outside. I saw about 6 boxes with numbers come up below the globe. The only red dot I saw was one right at the "N" on the globe. No fix or lat/lon. I waited for about 3 minutes.
Well you are at least trying to acquire. Maybe try to stay outside longer. And you didn't mention. Was your data connection active.
I just checked again, making sure the data connection was up (I believe it was before as well). This time, however, I was seeing dots around the globe, not just at "N" adn the value for "Dop" was alternating between 0.0 and 13.1. Still no LAT/LON or Fix, though.
Well it is trying to acquire. Give it some more time.
Also being that you are using agps. I kinda doubt the servers adress are right because this is working at standaloen gps speeds. Also maybe install quickgps. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1862269&postcount=2
Quick GPS can't download apparently so no help there.
I think I'm going to give up on this for a while. It's just not meant to be.
I would say theres a chance the GPS driver in the ROM you are using is a tad buggy. Your GPS at least finds satellites just never gets a lock correct? If you cant get a lock its because you are using a vx6800 make sure your ERI is version 4? Make sure to use QPST to uncheck all the agps boxes in the GPS one tab and then recheck them? ex: all blank [ ], then all [X], then double check your port, ip, and position calculation (dont leave that page write to phone while still in GPS one tab.) Boot ROM back up and double check your registry settings for aGPS, then last thing you can try is putting GPS in standalone mode. By setting Gpssmartmode to 0 enable agps to 0 and gps mode to 1, soft reset and try again.
Thanks for the info. I'll try it and let you know what happens.
You have to run the registry changes that are listed on the page I gave you. That fixes the download problem.

So I put the thing in standalone mode and it works! I am not sure what that means, but it works, so I won't complain. Thanks for all your help everyone!
Hey everyone i know alot about this phone from your forums. I have done the gps update on my phone using the wiki you had and Worked for some time. So after some time the gps wont pick up any satellites. Ok so i thought well i would hard reset and resintall the carrier cab and gps cab nogo. Ok so i reverted to stock rom and redid to dcd rom and radio added the carrier cab and gps cab again nogo. I even tried the mr1 update with gps cab via your wiki and still google maps and live search wont pick up the gps. Does anyone other than a defective gps unit have any other steps to try would be appreciated. thanks
Did you even search to see if others had your same problem. Look in the last 10 pages here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=424387
have you applied the aGPS fix? and if you have, did you update with the new information? im not sure when it happened, but verizon changed the IP address and port you should be using. i lost gps for a while and didnt even realize that a hard reset made me lose all my gpsOne settings (when i lost my akey). if you have the aGPS fix set up correctly, you should have no issues at all.
I've been having a similar problem. I am not sure what the definitive ip address settings for verizon users should be (ip/port, that is). I think I've seen at least 2 or 3 different settings, including Telus ones. Does anyone know, definitively, which ip address and port we should be using?

When you mean the ip address change do you mean using qpst and if so i might not have changed the ip address.so i will give that a chance i saw in a previous post a different ip didnt think anything of it. I will try and if someone has the new ip can you please send it to me.
I found
ServerIP=66.174.95.132
ServerPort=8888
Or is it
ServerIP = 216.198.139.92
ServerPort = 8889
And one thing i looked at my phone and when i pull up qpst i dont see the usb ports listed i do see unknown i would try those but if anyone has anything on that would be great thanks
Guess i have to revert back from mr1 to dcd rom hope this works i loved my gps. my omnitech with igo and navigon is ok but i like google maps better.
you should be using DCDs rom anyways. the correct settings are the second block that you listed. your ports may not match the same numbers as the wiki, but add them both and open whichever one has SURF next to it
Use the telus servers. The verizon ones are hit and miss if they work without VZ navigator.

whats the settings for telus doing rom update right now
68 to 69
Ok so i had the xv6800 and got it working with gps. Then i decided to get the xv6900 because it has more ram and i knew my software i had would work on it. Plus i knew about this hack so....I gave it a shot.
Well I turned on the XV6900 as soon as i had power running to it, and it came from verizon with 6.1 on it. Which saved me some time having to install it later. The first thing i did was install the vahalla cab that i had on my 6800.
the registry settings were automatically set at
Mode 2
PDE address 5C8BC6D8
PDE port to 8889
I then installed the Serf telus agps deal....
Mode 4
server ip 216.198.139.92
server port 8889
then i install Franson gpsgate2.6
and it shows me a lite green icon on my today screen then when you go into settings it says "getting gps data, but no position"
I couldn't get gps to work in google or live. Maybe because i was impatient. I sat here at work on the 8th floor of my building and still couldn't get it to work. So finally I when i was leaving for work, i called my wife to let her know i was on my way home, and when i hung up the phone....there it was. The light green was now dark green which means gps position. And it works now. So i installed tomtom and that works (btw i use gpsgate for this to fool tomtom into thinking that the installed gps is a real tethered gps, because built in wouldn't work). So now gps works great, until I turn on my phone on the 8th floor. So my guess is, the gps has to get a lock outside with clearview of sky while you use your phone. once you do this the agps helps out and then you can go inside and still have location.
Try it let me know if this works for you.
btw- has anyone been getting text msgs saying a free software update available by dialing *228 then 2? this updates the roaming area. I wonder if this is tied in with us hacking the gps. Just a thought.
Telus server info.
