After a few days of flashing different roms to my new at&t branded fuze I noticed a vertical green line on the left side of the screen. After hard reset and some more flashing a blue line showed up beside the green one. I then flashed it back to original and returned it back to the store this morning. It now had 1 green and 3 blue lines all on the left side of the screen. Now I have my new one and I'm worried, but I can't live with the stock rom.
Thanks to:
Olipro and Cmonex and the elite team for hard spl and the stock rom.
Monx for all the great roms and hard work.
notatreofan for the same.

ROM flashing cannot cause dead pixels.
Must have been a defective screen.
Cool. I'm downloading TiR_v8R_WWE now.
Thanks for your help.
Dead pixels are black.
What you described sounded like "stuck" pixels. LCDs have a tendency to get stuck pixels if there is a surge in the electric field on the display. Flashing may have caused a flicker, thereby causing this issue. It's not a manufacturing defect but it can rarely happen to otherwise "healthy" LCD screens.
They are usually easily fixable by running a fullscreen application (like Jscreenfix) that flickers the display to get the subpixels unstuck. This can also fix LCD "burn-in".

I looked at the pictures from Jscreenfix and it looks the same as my screen. Definately stuck pixels. I first noticed it after installing pocket shield. The lines showed up right where you have to slide your finger to unlock it. Not sure if it has anything to do with it.
God to know. Thanks

Yesterday i bought a HTC Hero (my first one). When i turned it on and toke a good look at the starting screen (the one that says Hero, and HTC), i found a white pixel, probably dead or something. I went back to the store to get a new phone. This was not a problem at all and i got a new Hero. Now again, when i turned on the phone and toke a good look at the black screen, i also found 2 pixels with a other wierd problem:
The pixels also turned out white when i looked at them in a specifica angle. Just to be clear, i am watching on a black screen (starting screen). If you look at the screen and not in a specific angle i cant spot the pixels directly, but when i tilt over the phone slightly they show up and are 2 little white dots.
After i found out i downloaded the Detect Dead Pixel app. This app can create a black screen, the same screen as the home screen. When i use this app to spot the pixels again they are way less visible than on the home screen... I can spot 1 of them a little bit if i look at the screen in a certain angle and i can see a little dot, but i cant see them that good as on the home screen. They are not visible on other colors, only black.
I really dont know what to do with the phone now ... does anyone know what this is? im a bit concerned. Thanks!
After a bit more research on my phone i firugred that the dots really arent that visible. Maybe its just dust under the screen? When i put on a black screen using some kind of Android app i can not spot them. If the pixel is lazy or dead it should be clearly visible on a black screen right? for the lazy one then.
Anyway, i spotted a other problem on a black screen:
A brighter spot on the top part of the screen (like someone is pressing on it a little bit). Is this a problem ? im deciding if i should return the phone again..
Well its entirely upto you mate - i dont know what contract you've taken out but you may have that phone for 2 years. If your not entirely happy with it i'd take it back while you still can.
Issues with the screens rarely correct themselves.
My first Hero had around 10 dead pixels and i got it replaced as i wasn't happy with it. I now have one with a perfect screen and i'm really happy with it!
Well i just returned to the store and got another phone. This is the 3th one, and it still has problems, even more then the previous ones ....
On the boot screen there are about 10 very very tiny white wierd points visible ... im getting a bit frustrated here. What is this with all the screen problems ? :S
looks like they got a bad batch in your shop... have you considered powering up the phone while you are still in the store? might save you same time and way...

I have done that, but as i said, its only really visible in a dark room with screen brightness on 100%. I have checked the phone in the store and it just wasnt visible. When i checked the screen in a complete dark room i spotted the little things again. Looks more like dust to me =\
If your brightness is 100% you should see that one single pixel immediately.
Try making an image in paint (480*320) with a black background and a single white pixel. Open that image on your phone. The dead/lazy pixel should be just as bright as the one you drew.
Also the brighter spot is normal. It's called "backlight bleeding". Every lcd screen has this 'problem'.
They are not clearly visible, i think they are smaller then pixels, but they are countable on the bootup screen. When i tilt the screen them seem to change color (might just be dust). Green etc. I dont know what to think of it, come on. A wrong batch shouldn't be the problem if its dust, then its just a assamblation error. But 3 in a row?
I'm getting a bit pissed
It's dust or a fingerprint blocking a very small subpixel. Can't you just wipe it off? But I suspect very tiny scratches.
idk whether this is possible, but it might be dead subpixels. that would explain why they are smaller than a full pixel...
Does anyone know if that is possible? it sounds like a good explaination. Dead sub pixels could be the problem. They are smaller then pixels, but beg enough to be counted (i can count over 13). Little white dots on a 100% brightness black screen.
It must be dust, its a common question among hero owners. Most of the time the things they see is dust. It would be crazy if all new hero's have up to 10 or 13 dead pixels.
Ok well, here's what happened next:
I returned my phone again, god my cash back, bought a new one at a other store, SAME problem. Swapped it for a new one again, same problem!
Got my money back and i completely changed my mind of buying a Hero.
It is not dust. Its a perfect white dot, and definately some kind of pixel issue.
To bad..
Are you sure you're not being pixel-paranoid?
When reading all of this it sounds mostly like small dust particles under the screen. And looking at the number of phones you have tried, chances are you also got one with a real dead pixel (hot pixel, always on).
But I also think you are obsessed about it. My phone also have one dust thingy somewhere which I found just like you did (pixel tester, black screen). Smaller than pixel and less bright though.
I never notice the thing under normal use, unless I really go searching for it with a black background.
So you might make it bigger than it really is and miss out on a really nice phone.
Then again, we all have our own quality standards and its good yours is a high one!
I have had a tiny dead pizel since I bought my phone. Only really see it on the bootscreen.
I was always more bother by the light you can see coming from under the keys at the bottom and near where the lcd meets the keys.
I also have 3 dead pixels but they aren't that irritating.
I also discovered them when booting up the phone, but for me, they are sea blue (all three)
Maybe it is 2nd hand stuff HTC uses on their phones?
i have about 7 or 8 dead pixels too. it doesn't bother me too much anymore... only notice it in a completly dark room on the boot up screen... probably a common problem with the lcd screen the hero uses
All Hero's have this, or will have it inevitably:
The screen does not connect fully; there is a rubber-border between the glass and the metal frame surrounding the screen.
Look from the right angle, and you can see that there is a small 1/10th mm opening. Dust will come through here, and it will get on the screen.
HTC will wipe it off free of charge of course.
It is NOT a dead pixel; these can be seen from any angle, although the color changes a little but because of the viewing angle.
Call HTC and say you have dust under your screen, they will fix it for you, free of charge.
Two small pinpoints of white light on the screen. Are these dead pixels? Stuck Pixels?
I'm guessing that either way I should exchange it. So, apparently Asus is going to be having quality issues?

let it load
select "fix my screen"
if it doesnt go away after it runs... if it doesnt auto close after a minute, just close it
its a dead pixel
return son!
No dice. Thanks anyway.
Guess this bad boy is going back...
I got a replacement Prime yesterday and thought everything was perfect until I opened my web browser to google, which is pretty much all white and noticed a bright spot like you are describing in the title. Mine are definitely NOT stuck/dead pixels. I know because I returned my first one in part because of stuck pixels. It's almost like these pixel(s) allow slightly more light through than the adjacent pixels. Sort of like light bleed but not at the edge of the screen. I can only see it on white or very, very light backgrounds. It disappears entirely on darker colors.
It is unfortunate but I will not replace this again for a third time. It goes away unless my Prime is charging or docked (which I assume is because it is similar to the tablet being plugged in) and can only be seen on an all white background. I will never use my tablet plugged in, I charge it at night when I sleep, and the limited amount I have it docked is not an issue since it only shows up on an all white background and seems less noticeable than a dead/stuck pixel. Honestly, a smudged screen is more noticeable/annoying. Since I don't use my dock much it will probably end up having a dead battery anyway which means I really wouldn't see it much, unless the battery in the dock is required for it to function while attached, I'm not sure but will find out. Thinking about it I guess it probably does need to be charged for the ports and everything to work unless it leaches off the tablet. Who knows...I'll test it at some point.
It is kind of strange though and I really dislike trying to justify a flaw to keep a $500 device but whatever. IPS screens have some nice benefits but they seem to have a lot of flaws too like bright spots, pretty bad light bleed and more stuck pixels than I am used too. I went back and forth in my OCD head so many times about how many times I would exchange or return this device before I get one that is pristine but if I return it there is nothing else that interests me.
Asus had quality issues with their past Transformer and to think the 1080p tablet will be any different is ignorant.
Anyway, end blog. Since that's what XDA is now

If it's only 2 pixels and they are not directly adjacent, it's unlikely that they will take it back as that is deemed an acceptable tolerance for dead/stuck pixels. I think you need to have 5 or more total or 2 directly adjacent.
Pretty much all manufacturers use this guideline I believe. I hope I am wrong and you do get to exchange it.

I had one dead pixel on my Xoom and Best Buy replaced it without even turning it on to verify
I had two stuck pixels when I first got my Prime. Running pixel fixer apps didn't fix the problem. However, both of them have "unstuck" themselves after a few days of use. If you have some time before you have to return it, you may want to wait a little.
EDIT: Check that. I just ran a dead pixel test and only one of the two unstuck itself. The other one is so unnoticeable to me that I haven't seen it.

Same issue here, bottom right of the screen, small patch of white light in the browser window about an inch from the corner..
Not sure whether to return, the rest of the tablet is awesome!!
I just got another one and about 7 dead pixels the kind you can see on
Black screens and also slightly a bit of light bleed where the headphone jack is

This is a more general question and less about our phones, but I thought I would ask. I have a friend who just got this phone from ebay in perfect, like-new condition, but there are issues with the screen that I wanted to see if anyone has had.
Usually there are black flickering lines that go across the screen, especially with white and other bright colors. They're extremely small lines, almost like static or flickering. They're most sporadic and can happen constantly or just periodically. If you look at the white of the main Sense clock, for example, it's really noticeable. I would assume it's just a bad lcd screen, but I wanted to see if anyone has had this issue with this phone or any other before I try to repair it in any way. Any help would be appreciated
I would agree...bad LCD. The only flicker I've ever had was when we had the blue ICS flicker from the first leak.

Yeah, this phone is running the latest leak, unlocked, and was on CleanROM when I noticed it. It's definitely nothing to do with the ROM, so I'm going to run the RUU again later just in case. I fear it might just be a bad lcd, though. It's definitely not the blue flicker I remember from the earlier builds. This seems more screen related. Just might have to get a new lcd screen for it and try that to see if it stops. I hope it's that and not a GPU issue.
This is my 2nd Evo 4g LTE,( the first one had a defective digitizer/logic board), and i noticed it had 2 very small white/red/blue/green dots whenever i watched a video with letterbox, or any video. They flash different colors depending on the color of the screen, for example if my screen is mostly black the dot would be white, if the screen is a bunch of different colors the dot would be red, green, or blue. I tried rebooting, flashing new roms, and even going back to stock android, still nothing. I ran one of those stuck pixel apps for around 2 hours and one of the stuck pixels at the top of my screen is mostly gone, but the the one in the left middle is pretty persistant and never seems to leave. I assume they are stuck pixels because they change colors, flash, and only show up on videos, some apps, and my camera. If anyone has had any experience with stuck pixels on their phone or have even got rid of some, any tips would be much appreciated. it isnt too big of a problem to where i need to replace the phone AGAIN, but it just ruins movies/videos for me and is very annoying. THANKS!
I ran a dead pixel checker and find several non responsive pixels on the black test. Everything is black except several tiny little white pin pricks of light. They very in intensity and location but moately towards the top of the screen and on the left hand side.
Anyone else have a similar issue? I am with tmobile ill have to do an exchange while i am in my 14 day remorse period. Honestly i dont see them under normal operating conditions just when i run the test.
What's everyone elses experience??
How are the pixels lighting up if they're dead?
OLED only lights to display is my understanding, so it would have to be the opposite (white screen showing black pixels) for it to be bad.
Why would i have a totally black screen and then a few white pixels? I googled it and the results i got back is they may be stuck on not turning off. I just want to know if anyone else has similar results. Ill call LG i guess and ask them too. Also more results i got back call it a dead or non responsive pixel. They should all be turning off and i should have a perfectly black screen, but that is not happening.
Called lg and they confirmed there should no white pixels on a totally black screen of course i already knew this but wanted to start a trouble ticket and report. Guess ill be doing an exchange and hope the next one is ok.
