It’s the page for one listed as being for a Touch Cruise, but there’s a page with one for every HTC phone. I’ve been using it for a few months on my HTC Touch Cruise and it’s great. The plug itself is compact, no different in size than a 3.5mm headphone plug -- and stays put (it isn't shown in the photo). It has 2 parts, the cord with the plug at one end, and a microphone with a 3.5mm jack at the other. The other part is the throwaway earbud headphones that you can toss and use your own. No bulky dongle, and makes any favorite pair of headphones into your microphone/stereo headset. Personally, I forget HTC forgot the 3.5mm jack with this one, as it's just a cable, not an annoying adapter.
The pinout of the mini-usb jack on the G1 is the same as all other HTC phones, so at the very least the microphone and stereo audio will work. Some features of the answer-button that may or may not work on the G1: push once to answer; pushing while on a call places the call on hold; 2 quick presses redials the last number; 1 long press activates voice dial. Most likely, the button will mimick whatever functionality is present with the headset that ships with the device.
It's made by HTC, and is very durable. Beware the adapters from Seidio -- they last a couple weeks and then start to give out, audio stutters, fades in/out -- they're not constructed well and within a month or so the ends start to get loose from the wire; and you can't exactly run to Best Buy for replacements.
The budget-shipping rate from MobilePlanet.com should have them to you well before your G1 arrives
Question. How far will the microphone be from my mouth? How good is the microphone...the problem is my regular headphones are kinda long like the wire is probably a good 20 inches.
So by the time its plugged into the adapter the mic is gonna be 20 inches from my mouth..and I want to be able to pic up without using the phone? will it work?
Probably -- the mic is in the end that your headphones plug into, I don't know how long it is, but I do hold the mic up a bit when I use it as that. Primarily, I like it as it's not a dongle and in use is no different than having a 3.5mm headphone plugged in. The plug itself isn't big, it stays put, and if I need to speak on it I can. The mic quality is OK, though it picks up all background noise, and a slight breeze can sound like a windstorm. Talking on it is just a convenience for me, I really wanted a standard type stereo headphone cable that I could pick up a call on. My devices tend to be music players first, and phones 2nd.

Earbuds w/out Mic/Converter?
Hey all,
I've been looking for some earbuds that don't require an adapter and just plug into the G1's current plug, or have an annoying mic; just to listen to music with.

I ordered a few of those. I will let you guys know how long it takes to get to the US and how I like the adapter itself. I also need one for the car that lets me charge and then convert to 3.5 to go into my aux input in my car.

Might be easiest to go USB -> 3.5mm -> RCA. Not elegant but parts are available.

Same volume as the headset that ships with it. Try it and see.
sorry i wasnt clear, i didnt mean does an adaptor effect the sound, purely what is mp3 quality and sound like through headphones generally on g1 (standard headphones or not) compared to say i-phone,nokia,sony erricson etc

i have one of those adapters, i got it for my wing way back, i think they were like 99 cents or something so i bought a bunch, they wear out pretty fast though, there nice to play music from my g1 in my car, i just wish there was a way to keep the microphone on the phone so i could talk on the phone and have the audio come through my cars speakers.
Headphone adapter
The newer G1s are shipping with a really nice official headphone adapter in the box, but I can't find it for sale anywhere. Are early adopters just left out in the cold with no headphone support? HTC has these ExtUSB ports on every one of their phones but they don't seem to sell any official adapters so I'm going to be stuck buying sub-par chinese adapters off of Ebay.

It looks the same as the standard headphones the only difference is that at the head phones them selves aren't attached to the remote (one end of the remote is the usb cable and the other is a 3.5mm port) they are 3.5mm head phones. I called t-mobile about it because my brother got one and they said they new nothing they said it wasn't on the packing list so I called HTC and they said they new nothing and since there was no bulletin they could not send me anything. I went to my local t-mobile store asked them about it and they gave me a new one out of a returned phone. The reason that tmobile says that they are not shipping them with a 3.5mm adapter is because its just a modified head phone and not an adapter and head phones in the box. I would recommend going to your local t-mobile store and asking about it.

So I'm thinking about turning my old Touch Pro 2 into a GPS for rental cars. That way I can save a few bucks because all the car rental companies charge extra for GPS.
I was thinking there has to be something like this already, and just hoping someone could point me in the right direction for the best one.
Something like a car mount that is not permanent, but sturdy. So I won't have to screw it in or anything, and can easily remove it when I am done with the rental car, but don't have to worry about it falling when I am driving.
It would ideally charge the phone (and connect to the cigarette lighter for power) and also have a built in amplified speaker. That way I could actually hear it when it tells me to turn.
Possibly have an external GPS antenna to connect to it also.
Anyone have any suggestions?
I have a generic mount that attaches via suction cup to the windshield. It has a gooseneck with a mount on the end that will hold anything the approximate size of the TP2.
I purchased it at Microcenter in Dallas a couple of years ago.

Yeah, I've seen these in stores before too. I was looking for something that will charge the phone though and also has an amplified speaker so I can hear the GPS prompts.
Well.. not sure if there is anything like that that is specifically made JUST for our phones... what I have done in my truck though is use a goose neck mount similar to that above. Then I simply have a charger plugged in to keep the phone charged... obviously..
I actually ran a converter box under my seat... the AC/DC converter boxes, and ran that from the charging outlet in the back of the truck for the people in the back (screw them they dont need that). From there I used a regular wall charger cause they seem to be way longer. That runs under my floor mat and up along the drivers side wall and up to my phone. That would clearly be a bit of a hassle to do if you rent cars all the time. I just cant stand wires all over the place and didnt want to have a car charger stretched across the dash. Now granted trucks are much bigger then trucks so this may not be an issue in a car, especially if you put the gooseneck in the middle of the windshield where most people do. For me I keep my phone off to the far left.
I have tomtom on my phone and use it daily so the GPS thing for me is key.
All my audio is routed right into the car stereo via a bluetooth A2DP car adapter, again... cant stand wires!
When I call comes in I can talk and then hear the people over the stereo using car kit feature.. when voice promts come over the phone its routed to the stereo.... when I'm listening to pandora or slacker radio or even music off the phone in general.. everything over the car stereo. I use the MS voice command all the time while in the car too so I just press the button on the phone.. wait for the "beep" to come over the car stereo and then say "call so and so and the phone repeats it back... I say yes.. and it dials then I'm connected. Another pet peeve is driving around seeing people with their cells up to their ears while they are driving 80 mph on the 75

Cant say why the cheap one so cheap. I do know I myself got a mid range one and when there is no audio coming from the phone there is a slight weird pitch that gets transfered from the fm transmitter to the stereo for some reason. I've actually had 2 of these and they both did it... from different companies so. I dont know! The next one I get will be a more expensive one in hopes that that goes away.
Bascially I've got it set up so that it all works like the microsoft sync they put in new cars. I just bought the truck the other year but didnt feel like dishing out 3 grand for the sync stuff to be put in haha.
Alright, my friend has a blackberry and when he's listening to music and his phone rings he can hear it ringing through the headphones. Not only that, he can answer the phone and hear the person in the headphones while talking to him. He basically holds the phone in front of his mouth and talks with his headphones in. Also he doesn't have a mic on his headphones.
I've always wondered if this was possible with the x10. When my phone rings and im listening to music my music stops but the phone rings out loud and not through the headphones. I tried to answer it and see if I could hear them through the headphones but I can't and the person who called can't hear me either unless I unplug them.
Is there any way to fix this so I can hear the person through the headphones and talk to them by talking into the phone?
Sorry if the post doesn't make any sense, I'm tired as hell, just got back from work.
Your head phones come with a mic, imo I think that's better than holding the phone to your mouth.

I understand that the default headphones come with a mic, but they never stayed in my ears, which is why I use my own in-ear headphones. I want to be able to use them to listen to the call tho.
But the default headphone cable that comes with the phone has a headphone jack to plug in any headset you want to it, and still have a mic?
I've fixed all my headset issues by buying a £10(roughly) wireless headset adapter off eBay. roughly 12-14 hrs battery life out it (so lasts about a week with moderate usage as I mostly use it in the car on 1-2 hr journeys and do them once or twice a week). Good buy!

We seem to have gotten our phones from the same place. The default headphones came with a removable mic. When I got mine, I had headphones (with a 2 contact TRS 3.5mm connector + a shorter wire with a microphone that sports a 3 contact TRRS connector).
Heres's the way the tips rings and sleeves work (I think... correct me if I'm wrong)
The headphones TRS
Tip: Left
Ring: Right
Sleeve: Ground
The "Mic TRRS jack"
Tip: Left
Ring1: Right
Ring2: Mic
Sleeve: Ground
So you need a TRRS connector that includes a mic + TRS Headphones or a set of TRRS headphones that include a mic built-in.
There are some pics on wikipedia, just search for TRS connector.

I know what you mean, the mic comes with the phone but when I hook my headphones up to it the wire is WAY too long.
Boohoo, just bundle it up a few times and put a rubber band around it keep that end in your pocket.
I just snipped the headphone's wires, slipped some shrink tubing, heat wires up with a lighter (to remove the "varnish/wax/stuff" they put on the copper wires these days), solder, slip the shrink on top, heat up one last time and voilà! Headphones with a short wire.

I have to admit that the mic wire + normal headphones make for a really long wire.
I was on my nightly bicycle ride using Cardio Trainer and my Skull Candy Smokin Buds, and everytime id move the phone in my bicycle jersey near the headphone jack it would cause the music to skip/stop/ff sometimes try to voice search and sometimes try to redial out ... I can replicate the problem here at home by jiggling the headphone jack around abit .......... anyone else
Yes. I posted the exact same thing in Q&A forum. Got no response but I figured it out.
Sometimes when you plug in your headphones they are detected as a headset. It doesn't occur that often, just make sure the notification icon doesn't have the microphone part. Otherwise any shaking causes songs to skip, phone to freak out and voice dialer starts.
Apparently there's also an app that makes sure they always do connect in headset mode. I think I'll go replace my phone anyway.

I had the same thing happen yesterday. I was testing some speakers at a job site and the phone was going CRAZY. I pulled the phone out of the otterbox case and re-plugged the headphone in and it was fine. I think my problem was the case + cable was not making the correct contact. Today I had the headphones from a PSP plugged in (with case) and it was fine.
Looks like its the same thing that was heading to my evo4g. The headphone input is design for 3 ring conductor (for remote control) but your headphone jack has 2 ring conductor thus making your phone act weird. I brought an adopter (you can go search amazon) and it fixed the problem.
go to marketplace and download "headset blocker". it wont show up in your apps list. go to 1 of your homescreens, and add its widget. its a toggle that you turn on and off. when its on, none of the headphone control features will work, and it it should just play your music without skipping tracks and what not.

Like previously mentioned this is because it is designed for a 3 ring conductor. 1 is left, 2 is right, 3 is microphone/control. The controls are back track, forward track, pause/play/answer/hangup. If you have a pair of headphones with 2 conductor (which is fine and it is also designed for) you are good. If, however, you aren't making full contact (because of cases being in the way or you have a 'non standard' headphones, read: cheap ****) wacky things can happy from intermittent contact of the various points.
I've never experienced this on either phone, but, it is a thing and it makes perfect sense.
There is another possibility...that the jack is fncked up. Poorly soldered, defective jack, abused (all it takes it one good jerk on the cable to ruin everything).
It's not as random and wacky of a situation as it sounds like.
I have two different 2 ring (stereo) headphone cables from two different manufacturers and the cable has nothing to do with the issue in my case. The issue is not with headphone/earbuds and not with the cable not plugging in all the way. The issue for me is that when you have the headphone cable plugged into the jack and the other end is feeding any type of amp: stereo equipment, Aux input in a car, whatever, the phone absolutely loses its mind. I've tested it on three different phones now and it does it every time. The phone is unusable until you download, install, and activate Headset Blocker from the market. Then everything works perfectly. It appears to be a defect in either the hardware or the software because it is picking up electrical noise as headset control signals.
BTW, I've measured the cables and tested to be sure they plug in all the way. They are standard 2 ring (which means three conductor) cables that should not be triggering any headset functionality. Something on these phones is falsely triggering the headset connection: maybe some very small electrical signal or voltage coming from aux inputs because as I said, earbuds/headphones with the exact same connector don't have the problem.

It sounds likely that it could be a grounding issue, probably on the amp side...though it could be on the phone side, especially if this happens to some phones and not others. If this is pro gear there is probably a ground lift switch on the back...give that a shot, if it doesn't help then it is definitely the phone...which I am leaning towards since it seems to happen on some and not others.

I know this thread is 2 years old, but I figured bumping is better than starting a new thread. Anways, this issue has been driving me crazy to no end. Headset blocker stops the false signals. However, if it's in your pocket and the base of the jack is bent, (at least on Skullcandy products + HTC Inspire), music stops playing from the left ear.
Anyways, I figured out a solution to this. Cut a 3.4mm hole in a credit card, and then insert your headphone jack. Trim the card around where you insert the headphone jack. To get the right size hole, I use a knife to penetrate the card, and then use a screwdriver to widen the hole until it's about right. It should stop all interference and false signals, audio cutting when your phone is in your pocket and the headphone base is bent.
This also works on heaphones that have microphones; however, you have to remove the plastic piece if you want to use the mic.
Abaout those adapters on Amazon that someone mentioned; what do I search to find them?

I've had the same issues plugging it into my car and into professional audio equipment.
Headset blocker is great. I just keep it on all the time.
It was pretty funny sitting in the car and realizing that it's dialing everyone on your contact list though. Couldn't make it stop even after unplugging it. It went crazy.

i have the exact same thing on my device, but it happens with any headphones i have plugged in
moving them just a bit causes google now to launch repeatedly and the music to skip,play,pause,etc
to fix it i remember using a blocker from the market and editing the code that launches google now via headphones so the blocker would block it aswell
I got new headphones about a week ago (shure se535) and had been using them with my note for at least twenty hours already. Yesterday while walking to work I was using them with my note and they were working just fine, and same with right after. Then when I was getting ready for bed I wanted to listen to some music so I popped them in and picked a song and only the left side worked! so I threw them in my laptop and they both worked. Tried them in the note.. only the left works.
When I push on the headphone jack slightly to one side, the signal returns to the other ear.. I checked for lint in the hole but it still looked brand new. It seems as if the little connector inside the jack for the right side has somehow become almost flush with the rest of the jack, if not pushed in somehow. The weird thing is, when I tried it with the stock headphones with mic, both sides worked! wtf!. It doesn't make any sense lol.
What should I do? Send phone in for warranty repair? Has anyone else had similar problems?

I had the same issue with my old Shure headphones the other day. The Samsung headset works fine with the Note. The Shures work fine with my laptop. It's intermittent though with the Note.
This is discouraging to hear. 3.5mm jacks have been in use for so freaking long that you'd think there wouldn't be any problems...
I'm worried that if I do go to Telus and get a repair done that they will say there is no problem and not even touch it. I wonder why my $500 shures out of the blue lost connection, yet the cheapo OEM headphones work lol. I'm very careful to not let anything put pressure on the jack when plugged in..
