hi all few weeks ago i was looking for a way to surf the web on my eris and i had to take it to some one to set it up and he charged me $30 to put a shortcut on the home screen that say proxy settings but after the leaked 2.1 which unfortunately i installed on my eris instead of the rooted one i lost that shortcut so i did my researches and i found that if you download any cut from the market open it and go to New shortcut then Activity wait for the list to load scroll down to proxy settings open it and create a shortcut go bak to home screen and look for the proxy settings shortcut open it and for hostname use wap.metropcs.net and port 3128 click save restart and you be able to surf the web using the internet app
note:if you are connected to a wifi the internet app will not work in less you turn mobile network of and restart for that i have opera mini it will work on wifi but not on mobile so i use internet app for mobile and opera for wifi the rest of apps will work normal on wifi not on mobile only the mail app work normal on wifi and mobile use it to send and receive pix messages
also you must do the settings on ##7764726# and ##778# from @vzw3g.com to @mymetropcs.com for more information on that refer to these post http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1466303
Do not skip any steps!!!!!
This works...
WAP
1: Goto settings -> Connections -> Connections
2: Remove any connections that are there
3: Open your phone and enter ##778#, select "EDIT" and enter your unlock code.000000
4: Set the following values:
M.IP Settings:
MIP_MODE = Simple IP Only
M.IP Default Profile:
NAI = [email protected]
Home Address = 0.0.0.0 (just delete the values and save)
Primary HA Address = 0.0.0.0 (just delete the values and save)
Secondary HA Address = 0.0.0.0 (just delete the values and save)

You'll need APN Backup & Restore (free from Market) to get your MMS working right. There's tutorials all over about what things need to be put in, but I just modify the 'Production' area in the xml file. Some people create/rename a whole area called 'metropcs'.
I've done this with Cricket. Good luck with Metro.
I have don it but not success

HTC Eris Metro internet apps (other than main internet browser) to work on metroweb
I have the HTC Droid Eris all flashed from Verison to MetroPCS on Android 2.1 rooted, I have Web(on the default UI Sense internet browser. All I want is to be able to use Android Market and other Apps like Trapster (to detect speed traps) without using WI-FI. I want to be able to use these internet dependent applications on Metro's mobile data network. So far have been unsuccessful. Does anyone know the secret Metro PCS settings that will make this happen ? Any ideas?

Is There a Way to Backup Your Metro Flash Settings?
I had my Eris flashed to Metro, but it wasn't syncing my contacts with Gmail correctly. People on these forums were saying that a hard reset would fix it. Tried that and of course all of my Metro Flash settings were wiped and my phone was reverted back to the original Verizon network. Is there a way to backup the Metro Flash settings or create some type of restore image, so I don't have to take it back to get reprogrammed every time I do a hard reset?
How do I know if I have all the APN setting correct?

what about internet and mms?
Thanks about this guide now I have internet and mms working fully. I would kiss you in rl for this guid seriously I spent like week searching and finally found.
Just a tip you can't have mms working without having internet working. You get internet working then edit mms setting with apn backup and restore.

Download APN Backup & Restore from the market.
Back Up your APN's.
Upload them here, so that other MetroPCS users can have MMS working properly.
You would be a hero.
Also, if you want to actually help people, you can do a nand backup, then turn your phone on and delete all of your contacts and information the best that you can, then do a nand backup again, and upload the second nand backup.
APN Backup & Restore is how you edit APN's. They're not REALLY APN's, they're just for MMS, on this phone.
##778 pw 000000 is how you edit most connection settings
iptables in the system is how you put EVERYthing through the proxy (need root)
and APN Backup (then edit it on a computer in a text editor) is how you can edit the APN's.
Make sure you DELETE before you RESTORE or it will just add on to the APNS already there.
here is the eris flash for metro/cricket enjoy...
www-megaupload-com/?d=PV7PQ9UI
change the dashes to dots..
Yes, get your custom ROM in there, and then flash the .zip (within this .zip) that is appropriate for MetroPCS.
It's all there, and it should work perfectly.
Hi
I recently received a replacement handset from Orange due to a cracked screen.
During Hurricane Bawbag we had a power cut, but as I still had signal and laptop battery I decided to use wireless tethering. I could connect to the phone but could not receive any data. I also tried wired tethering and got the same result. I have no problems receiving data on the phone itself.
With my previous x10 tethering worked fine, it was debranded to generic UK. I'm not sure if this is why it worked? I'm out of contract now and due an upgrade from Orange. When they get a phone I want, I will be giving the x10 to a friend so I would rather not mess about debranding it again.
Anyone know of a solution to this problem without debranding?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Tris
you should search the forums before posting, but anyway...
yeah, orange added a new APN..
the existing APN's were "orangeinternet" used for your mobile data...
and "orangemms" used for MMS messages...
the additional APN now included is "consumerbroadband" which is automatically used when tethering, either via wifi or usb, but orange only allows data through this APN if you purchase a tethering bundle....
the work around for this is easy, u just need to edit the consumerbroadband APN and change it to oranngeinternet settings, so tethering will work as if it was your phone....
recent orange branded handsets do not allow you to edit these settings, but if this is the case, just hit menu and "add APN" and create another APN with the same settings and it will work..
settings can be found here...

I am using the Lumia 800 on Talkmobile (UK). I have a problem whereby the ability to use the data connection fails intermittently. There is no signal drop - it still has a data connection - I just cannot use the internet, and stop receiving emails etc... Restarting the phone or turning Flight mode on/off will bring back data. I have noticed that it happens when the data connection moves from H/3G to E/G and then back. I am not sure yet if this is the only time it happens. Sometimes I only notice when I haven't received an email for a while... and then realise that the internet isn't working despite an apparent data signal...
Any thoughts/help greatly appreciated - many thanks!!
I had that problem with firmware 11500. It happened about 1 time every day or every other day for a while. Then I fiddled with cellular options (switching data on/off did not help, needed reboot) and ran network setup again and it went away till I updated to 12070 and it has never happened again on this new firmware so far.
I had this problem and found out that it was because I had manually put my APN settings.
Later when Nokia released their Networp Setup app in the marketplace, I had to delete my APN settings>reboot>then install this app and let it do its work of finding my provider and automatically configuring APN.
I have not had problem from then.

I had that problem WITHOUT an added APN. So I re-added APN among with running Network Setup a second time and then the issue didn't come back for me. I have manual APN added now as well as the Network Setup app and on this new 12070 firmware my data connection has not dropped a single time yet in soon a week.
Actually it's the bands I think
I've had the same exact issue as you, in fact some from the offical Nokia discussion have also asked about this.
If you have a UK phone, and if you're using it else where, like say the US, I think the missing 850 band is causing this. If not, I think it's probably just due to poor signal in your area as well.
I noticed that this Nokia phone unlike all my others, has issues trying to jump from the different frequencies. Like Edge to 3g to HSPDA.
I noticed that if I switched to edge in the settings, I can maintain the data signal much better and much more consistent, sometimes you have to turn data on and off to get it to work though.
I'm using mine in NYC so you can only imagine what kind of service I get with AT&T, but the edge method works.
Also instead of constantly turning your phone on and off (bad for battery life) You can simply just go into settings for network and turn data on and off and this will fix the issue as well.
Hope this helps

I was never able to get internet working through the Network settings app. it had my network there, but the internet didn't work after selecting it. The only way that I have managed to get internet to work is by editing the APN within the Diagnostics app. editing the APN within regular Settings doesn't work for me either...
I didn't have your exact problem, but some of the stock apps (maps, bing search, skydrive) were not working over a 3G connection (worked fine over wi-fi, and other apps worked fine over 3G). I think it has something to do with Nokia Network Setup thinking I'm on AT&T when I'm actually on Straight Talk (an MVNO that uses AT&T's network). What fixed it was removing the proxy entry in my APN settings.
Interesting - I am on Talk Mobile which uses Vodafone's network. I will try deleting the proxy.
Anyone try this? Windows Phone on Straight Talk?
Mobile data (internet) works perfectly fine (and fast!) but I can't connect to live services . . . which kills the user experience of a Windows Phone. The Live services work over wifi, but when there is no wifi connection, the services, including marketplace, bing search, scout, etc simply refuse to connect.
Any thoughts on how I can correct this? I've tried everything I can think of and spent hours searching to no avail.
Any help is much appreciated.
Hi, I have the Lumia 800 on Straight talk and everything works perfect.
Make sure the apn setting are good.
Is Straight talk a network that gives you SIM card and no phone?
If it's a network that uses some other carrier's masts i.e. O2, Vodafone for example, then there is a solution to it.
How do you get your APN settings on your phone? Do you enter it manually?
Here is what will help you:
Once you connect to wifi to do whatever you wish and you complete using wifi, go to your network settings, mobile settings, then edit apn - enter your APN settings manually. I am not sure what Straighttalk APN settings are but you would surely find it somewhere.
After saving the APN settings, restart your phone but make sure wifi is switched off before you restart.
After the restart you will be able to use Live services with 3g.
However as soon as you reconnect to wifi, you will have to re-do the whole cycle each time in order to get Live services working on 3g again.
This might or might not work. I had exactly same issue on giffgaff. I have spent 3 months trying to figure out, flashed ROMs, hard resets, swapped carriers etc and finally have found this to be the way it works. I own a HTC Titan. Till today I thought, it was HTC's fault because I have ruled out carrier and MS for this. But if the above works for you then, it clearly isn't HTC's or carrier's fault but sure OS that keeps forgetting the APN. The reason this happens is because Straighttalk in your case and Giffgaff in my case, DO NOT have APN settings stored on their SIM cards. The OS doesn't seem to be configured to remember it. Ideally when you swap from wifi to 3g, your OS shouldn't have to read your SIM. However WP in current state seems to be reading SIM everytime you swap from wifi to 3g. However, when it can't find anything on the SIM i.e. APN settings, the live services won't work.
If this works, please please please drop me a PM as I don't use this Lumia forums at all. I have a Titan, so I wouldn't know. But if this works, I will have to write to WinPhone Support with whom I've been conversing for about a month now!!

Mind sharing what settings you're using? Also, are you using WP's built in APN tool or Nokia's Network setup?
APN is: att.mvno (all other fields are empty).
Using the built in WP APN under cellular in settings.
Tried the Nokia but it messed up the phone so I took it out.
Let me know if this helps.
I'm using my 800 on StraightTalk and have had the same issue. I found there are essentially 3 places where the APNs can be set up, and reboots must occur at the right time. (Win settings, ##634#, and Nokia tool)
it seems to be overly sensitive as to how they are configured. I must have reset this thing at least a half a dozen times before getting it to work. Ultimately, I ended up with the settings in all 3 places, but the sequence I did it in is Win Settings (network APN), ##634# (both network and MMS settings), a reboot, and then download the Nokia tool via WiFi and use it to enter the settings there for both network and MMS followed by another reboot. That issue is most definitely related to the APN settings, but I'm not quite certain why I had to do the hokey pokey to make it work. None-the-less, I hope this helps a little. Once you get it working, it seems to stick through reboots, wifi, or pretty much anything except swapping out the SIM card, which hosed everything up again.

Interesting. . . There doesn't seem to be anywhere to do that in the most up to date version of the diagnostics tool. (I know they changed a few things in the most recent update.)
I may have to restore to a previous version . . .
Thanks

I just activated my Straight Talk SIM yesterday (I was on T-Mobile's EDGE connection) and used Nokia's Network Setup tool to add, and make current, a new APN with att.mvno under the Internet APN's 'name' field. That's all I did, and data works fine (surprisingly, even on the RM-801 which doesn't have AT&T's 850MHz band).

How is call quality and what are your download/upload speeds. Been debating whether I should get a RM-819 device which is harder to obtain than a RM-801.
I pay for T-Mobile (US, on a Rogers Lumia) tethering, and it's been working great for me on HSPA+. Had to do the keyboard trick a few times to get it working since I installed Access Point some time ago, but otherwise fine.
A few days ago my area got refarmed with LTE, which gives a new indicator by the signal bar ('LTE') and also is resulting in some nice speeds.
The problem is, it's creating a new tethering issue. When I'm on an LTE signal and try to enable Internet Sharing, I get a message about 'not having a cell connection'. I do seem to have one, as I can make and receive calls just fine, and data works fine as well. This is a new message. If I'm in an area with just HSPA+ sharing works again.
Is this a Rogers ROM restriction, an Access Point restriction, or an issue on Tmo's end? Hopefully not the latter, I don't think I'm going to get anywhere with a rep on this issue.
Don't install Access Point app, it disables the internet sharing option.

Yeah, I realize that, and have been able to get around that message with the 'foreign keyboard' hack, but the message I'm getting now is different than that one, and the hack doesn't affect it.

Factory reset the phone, didn't install access point, same issue. I can enable tethering on 4G but as soon as I get an LTE signal, tethering is blocked in the Internet Sharing settings page with a message saying "no cell connection found" or something similar, even though I have both a working LTE connection and cell connection on the phone.
Rogers ROM issue, maybe?
Factory reset doesn't help?

I was thinking of doing a factory reset until I read this.
Has anyone found a workaround? I tried doing the tricks like resetting the APN or putting in a dummy APN and still, no joy.
Is this a Rogers ROM issue and is there an alternative to get Internet Sharing AND MMS working at the same time (other than the purchase of another phone)? TIA

I don't recall having MMS issues, though it's possible I never recieved any. The tethering fix I finally settled on was just switching back to '3G' in the cellular settings, which gets me 4G HSPA+ tethering which was good enough for my purposes. It's almost certainly a restriction of the Rogers ROM.

I tried the 3G tethering with reboot and it still gives me the upsell message.
Are there other ROMs that will work with the Rogers Lumia 920? Or will that brick the phone?
I remember with the Lumia 900 I could use a Mexican Firmware to get MMS and Tethering that worked great but I heard (months ago) of people bricking their Rogers 920s by putting on AT&T ROMs.

Do you get an upsell message, or a "cellular data not enabled" message?
For the former, installing and then removing a foreign language keyboard update via the keyboard settings will still work, if you actually do have T-Mobile tethering on your line. You still won't be able to tether on LTE though, because you'll get the "cellular connection not enabled message".

I've heard of people having success with the Euro Dev firmware, if you have an unlocked phone. Though after Nokia's locking-down of Naviform it's going to be harder to find that. And no, don't flash an AT&T ROM, it will screw you up.

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond.
The keyboard trick used to work perfectly but no longer works for me (I tried adding different ones and restarting, no joy).
I do pay for 500MB of tethering on T-Mobile USA and they insist it should work when I call. There is a problem with the phone that reads: "Add Internet sharing? Your current data plan doesn't include Internet sharing. Do you want to open an app from your mobile operator to add it? Internet sharing uses your cellular data and may incur additional charges 'yes' 'no'".
I didn't hear about Nokia locking down Naviform. Lame. Maybe I can find someone who has a copy that can do the firmware update for me.
Euro Dev firmware might be an option if I can find Naviform. Have to re-install Windows on my Mac Laptop via Bootcamp. Think I have to do a bit of work to pull one of the two hard drives and re-install the DVD drive which I pulled out a few weeks ago to have more space. Sadly, I deleted my Windows partition. :silly:
However... I never installed Access Point on my wife's Lumia 920 and her sharing works (though no reliable MMS). I may just swap phones with her since she never uses internet sharing.
one of the OTA updates fixed this
