How to find out which radio T-mobile Vario III UK uses ?
So that I can decide which rom to load.
And I did search for this information but is not easily findable considering all the wikis , blogs , 50 pages forum threads .. god this site is a total chaos. ( And no I don't log in here every day nor I am a programmer - GOD forbid both things )

when it boots it shows those 3 letters R,G, and D. Whatever is next to the R is what radio you have. You can also go to Setting -> System -> DeviceID?? to check. Also this is a very easily searchable forum and your radio does not decide which ROM you should load. You do that. You can also flash your radio for better reception. This is all found in the stickied posts.

My x01ht will arrive by next weeek too
Hi!
can I buy the x01ht sim free and unlocked? Or is it only on Contract from SoftBank?
Ofiaich
>can I buy the x01ht sim free and unlocked?
It is solded SIM-locked. There is no way to unlock it yet. You cannot change the ROM, either, yet.
>Or is it only on Contract from SoftBank?
Yes, it is only available with a contract with SB.
The price I paid for my x01ht was about US$170 under a contract with which you have to keep using the device with SB for 26 months. There is no official SIM-lock option no matter how long you use your device or phone, which is typical and common in Japan.
As long as you use it in Japan, it's a f**king great deal!!
qtotter,
thanks for your reply, I thought as much.....
I travel to Japan every year and stay for 14-20 days.
I guess I should just get a Vodafone UK version and put Japanese input on it..
Not sure just how simple that is though...
Ofiaich
Ofiaich,
Unless you use X01HT in Japan, it would be a useless device elsewhere. Anyway, if you read Japanese, visit this site for guidance to install Japanese fonts and the input method.

It is not really difficult if you understand the steps in a right order. You will need ATOK for PocketPC (which you can buy online at http://www.justsystem.co.jp/atok/atok_ppc/)
The key point is if you install ATOK on WM5.0, it tries to become the default SIP which makes the device hung up. This also happens when you change ATOK setting in Control Pannel. "Def Sip Changer" is a useful tool that detects and prevent ATOK from becoming the default SIP. http://d.hatena.ne.jp/KOTETU/00000110
There is another option. It seems like the ROM of Docomo's HTC z has been posted somewhere on the net (Unfortunately, not here... why?) If the bootloader of the Vodafone Hermes is older, you can burn this ROM to make it a Japanese device.
Good luck!

Bootloader on SoftBank X01HT is 1.06, if the Docomo hTc Z rom has been released, then it will not match the CID on Softbank's device and he'll not be able to flash it
BTW, where is the Docomo hTc Z rom? do you have a link for it?
Hi pof,
I have not downloaded the ROM myself yet, but the link to the ROM is as follows.
http://www.live-share.com/files/54847/Herm_China.rar.html
I was not suggesting ofiaich try Docomo ROM on X01HT, which does not make any sense. I meant he could try the Docomo ROM on a UK Vodafone (not SB) Hermes since he was thinking about UK VF although I am not sure about the bootloader version of the UK VF unit.
Lol, downloading now... if it's an hermes rom we don't have then I'll put it on the ftp / wiki
Thanks for the link!

Japanese Nike (HT1100) Upgrade ROM or Language Extender, advice needed

I am currently living in Japan and have just picked up a new HT1100 (Touch Dual) on the Docomo network.
This is my first smartphone/PDA and I am very happy with it except for the language problem.
The entire system is in Japanese and I would like to change it to English. I have tried asking Docomo who didn't have a clue what to do and it seems that the original English software has been completely removed and replaced with an all-Japanese ROM.
I have never changed the ROM on a smartphone before but I am willing to give it a go but I have a few questions which I can't find answers to by searching -
1, Would it be better for me to try and find an English language pack (if one exists)?
2, If I do have to change the ROM completely then which would be the best one for me?
3, If everything gets screwed up then what are my chances of unbricking it and putting the original Japanese software back on?
4, If everything goes to plan and I change the software to a hacked version can I still use my Docomo sim card in it? Or is there some kind of security check between the sim card and the phone that means the card will only work with the Docomo ROM?
Sorry for all the questions but I'm a bit of a newbie at this and don't want to ruin a brand new phone that I am otherwise so happy with!
Read the Sticked Thread about HardSPL and make all Steps!!!
Read 10 Pages of the Thread befor you try this. Then you know all errors you can have and it prevent use for the same questions they all ready posted hehehe
After that ... looks around for a Favorit Rom and try it! If you have a Problem ... read the first 10 Pages of the Thread!
^_^
neon 100
japanese ht1100 code name is neon 100 not niki,
so do not flash niki radio or rom to ht1100(neon 100).
Thanks for the replies!
I will certainly read each step carefully before I flash the phone with new ROM.
But before I do I just want to check one thing to be completely clear - are you saying that after I put on this new homebrew ROM I will DEFINITELY be able to use my Docomo sim card in it without any problems?
Also, what settings would I need to enter on the new phone to use it properly? ie, when I flashed normal phones in the past I needed to re-enter all the MMS/internet settings. Is it the same with these smartphones or are there any other settings I will need to get?

3, If everything gets screwed up then what are my chances of unbricking it and putting the original Japanese software back on? Dump your original Rom before doing anything that way you can always manage to flash it back.
4, If everything goes to plan and I change the software to a hacked version can I still use my Docomo sim card in it? Have you tried a sim card from another Network?

hi,I have same handset with you , and have flashed english rom , if you want to flash any english rom,I think you will cannt use docomo network mms, hi-speed data plan etc.
and cannt accesse internet. so, must dump docomo original rom before flash other english rom. good luck.
I don't know if my phone is network locked as I have not tried another sim yet but I wouldn't be surprised if it it.
Actually, after mailing HTC Japan they have pointed me in the direction of an English language pack sold by another company. I have to wait another 24 hours before I can use it but it looks promising - http://www.cfcompany.co.jp/product/mobem/mobem.html
If Aten is right then flashing the phone will be no use to me if the Docomo sim card doesn't work.
I will wait and try this language pack to see how that works out. Maybe after that I will consider flashing the ROM.

The MMS and Connection settings are store either in *.Rgu files or *.Xml files on the Rom, not sure which ones. I had the same issue with my Telstra branded Rom, the network settings were built in so i couldn't connect to any other network. If you dump your rom and upload it up i can have a look and extract these settings for you.
Cheers
Well that language pack software arrived last night and I installed it without any problems.
It all seems pretty good. Not everything is translated but its enough to make the phone useable for me.
The only major issue I have is that it seems incompatible with the whole Touchflo interface. The touchflo will not open my videos or, photos or music files any more. I cannot use the Touchflo shortcuts and it seems I am also unable to set an MP3 as my ringtone/alarm etc.
Is there something I could change to make this work?
I am busy with work for the next few days but will see if I can upload this ROM on the weekend.

Dumping a radio rom

I've been visiting this site for the last two weeks, but I can't find the right link.
I'd like to know how to dump my radio. I've seen some info on dumping a rom, but not a radio rom.
I have a phone thats in korean and I would like to flash a english rom to it.
Before I can flash a new rom , I heard that you first have to unlock it, and in order to do that you have to reflash your original radio back. I have found some other radios on this site but I wont be able to use them, because phones from outside korea can't be registered on korean cell networks. So I need to dump my original radio and then put it back after I have flashed the english rom.
Can someone please point me in the right direction?
Thanks a million.

Will this custom rom work with (insert carrier name here) ?

Hey all,
Some of you might know me from the Titan or Wizard forum, but I am joining the Raphael family today (as long as it shipped!) and have a couple of questions regarding this forum.
I should have my Sprint Touch Pro waiting on me when I get home, and will be aching to flash it before the weekend. I think I've literally flashed my Titan several hundred times, so much so that I've become obsessed by it at times.
My question, and the reason for starting this thread, is to ask about compatibility between the GSM versions and the CDMA version(s) of the Raphael.
I would ASSUME that as long as the ROM doesn't include a different radio, that it 'should' be compatible with either version? Is that assumption correct? I don't want to brick my TP right out of the gate. Basically, since the Titan didn't have a CDMA version of the forum since it was all CDMA, I want to ensure I'm understanding my boundaries venturing outside of the CDMA subforum. Thanks in advance to all that reply!
Please understand a few things when responding:
1. I am not a noob
2. I only flash through the SD method (should tell you I'm familiar with the process of flashing, so please no "you have to unlock your phone first" responses)
3. This is a great community and I can't wait to contribute!
Hello mate. As far as I know it is not possible to flash gsm roms to the cdma diamond. That is why there is a cdma version of the forum.
But again am not too sure. I am in UK with the gsm version but I am curious to find out about this too.
Absolutely do NOT flash a GSM rom on your CDMA device, or visa versa. That being said, at least for the GSM roms they are not carrier specific. I've never owned a CDMA device so i couldn't tell you, but there's a specific thread for those devices.

HTC, HTC Desire X ROMs, CID ... questions

Hello,
I'm quite new with android devices and have read several topics here, but still have some questions. So I do apologize if it's answered or explained already somewhere, but I haven't found it.
Let me first explain what my assumption was and what are now.
1. HTC kernel/update - So HTC is getting generic android from google and make and add their modifications.
- Maybe there are some difference in the ROMs and/or devises for different regions like Europe, Asia, America ... , but not sure if it's correct and why it is needed at all, unless it is something specific with network carriers
- I do not understand the reason to have a different ROM or OAU per network carrier unless that the update should be approved by the carrier /why needed/. If so, what about the countries and carriers not available on htcdev site, that means such operators and countries use generic regional like WWE Eastern Europe or EU, but who is approving them in that case
- currently there are quite big difference to updates and versions available for different regions and carrier operators
2. Is there any way to get stock/original ROMs
So till recently I believed there is a generic ROM and depending on your home network/operator/carrier you got OAU or not, but it turned out that is completely wrong. It seems the phone is preloaded with a specific ROM made for specific operator or more generic one like EU, and depending on those ROM you have particular update or not.
- still not sure what the reason for this is
3. What is the meaning of CID on particular ROM, isn't it just a simple configuration in a configuration file into ROM.
I thought if you have stock ROM with different CID inside than current one, you should be able to flash the phone with it and it should work. Possible issues should be only with network carrier , but all the rest should work, isn't that correct.
4. If you flash you phone would your IMEI and/or CID change or the CID is hw locked and not into ROM
5. Is there any way to change the CID
6. I've read a lot in the forum in regards to ROMs, but still not clear
- is there any really original stock ROMs
- why people having issues with stock ROM depending on their current CID, and the ROM is working with some and doesn't with others
- what is the problem with OAU after change of the ROM with stock one
7. Is it possible to make a image of my phones without rooting them
8. What's the problem to get the ROM from one phone and put it in another as both are original coming from HTC with devices
I do not want to root the device or put custom ROM for now, but interested in having original HTC ROM with different CID than the current one, and trying to understand the setup and how it is working and how can it be done.
I own two Desire X which happened to be with different ROMs and CIDs, one Orange CH, the other T-Mobile PL, so there are some difference, so I would prefer to have them both identical may be EU or Eastern Europe ROMs inside and have the corresponding OAU working .
appreciate you help.
