[REV] Silicone Cover/case from Ebay - Touch HD Accessories

Hi all,
This is a small post regarding the silicone case that I got from ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170283532114
After 10 business days or a bit more, finaly I got it and have been using it for the past three days.
Originates from HongKong, the case fits the HD nicely. No saggyness or
extra space, you drop in the phone and it fits good.
The thickness is not extremley thick nor thin, I wouldn't count on it to break
a 6 feet fall, but it will definately help protect it from day to day small bumps and just throwing around.
Touching the silicone material itself feels strange, as my previous silicone case was more on the sticky side. This feels a bit more like human skin (more or less) although I feel that my fingers glide with ease on it, holding it with a grip and putting it on different surfaces usually tends to make it hold with a better grip.
Attached are images taken with the HD.
One small note about the cuts/opennings in the case:
- Turning on/off the screen needs a bit of getting used to since the button is cuvered now.
- No small hole for the LED indicator (which till now doesn't bother me)
I have also included an image to show the size of the package, it is just a bit bigger than the case it self, and they also included a free screen protector (which i'll save for later use if needed).
Enjoy...

The silicon cases from ebay look all the same...

hmmm Just wanted to have something quickly available for people rather than dig through that thread's pages. (so not really a post post post thread)
Since i read a lot about some different cases thought I'd share my thoughts on this
particular one so that if dear readers would want to buy.
@ MODERATOR, please feel free to remove Post if you see required.
thanks

The problem with that thread is that so many other different types of cases have been posted and discussed in there, so much so that the topic does not match the case anymore and the silicon is just one of the ten thousand cases discussed there
May I request that in this thread, we discuss this case and this case only? If we discuss the other case, it should be for comparision purposes only.
I also use the same silicon case as Fadik, and really love it.
Besides protecting the paint, it also acts as a soft cushion against small knocks. Unlike the invisible shield, which I think would not offer any protection against knocks.
It has very cleverly resolved the issue of power on button and volume control. You can use these control without exposing them to your finger. Therefore, I expect my device to remain new longer, even at those two places.
Fadik, mine does not have a hole to show the led though. This is the only minor flaw of the design. The invisible shield on the other hand, will not have problem showing the led.

Screen Protectors

I'll start this thread in the hope that there'll be some good news soon.
I got my Touch Cruise on Friday and the device is absolutely fantastic but there is one huge problem with it. Using it either with the bare screen or with the screen protector supplied in the box, the smudges that get onto the screen are a real issue. It's not a case of cleaning it every day when you get home, it really is a case of pulling out a perfectly clean device, flicking up the cube to fire up the calculator, doing 60 seconds of calculations and then putting it away and even after that the screen is covered with smudges to an extent that bugs me. The saving grace is that, if a good screen protector can help solve this problem, then it's easy to apply as an aftermarket solution.
Do other people see the issue to the extent I do? (And my hands are actually fairly dry, I often have issues getting through fingerprint recognition at US immigration because there isn't enough grease on my fingertips.)
I'm told that Brando are working on a protector and I just had a quick play with my old O2 XDA Orbit which has a good screen protector on it (not a Brando but one of their big competitors whose name I forget but is another make that people tend to recommend) and it seemed to me that it was picking up far less muck than my TC one so maybe Brando or someone can ride to the rescue on this one.

There is another thread about screen protectors here.
I use the supplied one without any problems different from any protector I have used. Just get the Veripart screen cleaner and clean your screen with it about once a week. looks like it leaves a coating on the screen. I am not sure about that, but my screen is shiny and nice
By the way, how can you get smuges from a non-greay finger

Ah. Thanks for that. I was trying to do the right thing by posting into the "Accessories" sub-forum so that is where I looked for a previous thread but I did just find the other thread in the main Polaris forum, funnily enough not by looking through the forums but because that thread is the second hit on Google when I did a global search for "veripart screen cleaner" as a result of your reply. I'll definitely try Veripart.
Re: "how can you get smuges from a non-greay finger", I guess they're not totally non-greasy, just less greasy than average .
I'll still get a new screen protector for my TC though because the one that came with my device seems to have a little bit of adhesive missing right down in the bottom left corner, luckily only on the bit that covers the screen surround but, because it won't stick down, it makes it look as if there is a water stain on the device. I also find that the factory screen protector does dull the sensitivity of the screen a bit.
- Julian
I have the same problem with the supplied screen protector.
I found out that Brando will come out with two types of screen proctectors of which on is anti-glare. That's the one I want to try.
Just ordered this one:
http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...em=160199157845&_trksid=p3984.cTODAY.m238.lVI
If you don't know German, look at the picture depicting the structure of the material. Seems to be nice - anti-fingerprint, anti-glare, etc. Will report here as soon as I get it. There is no picture of the protector but I strongly hope it will cover the whole surface and not just the display area.

It looks very interesting. I hope it works out for you. I'll look forward to hearing how it works.
I just experimented some more with my old (now dead) Artemis. Obviously with the device being dead all I can do is wipe my fingers and thumb around the screen with it switched off and then look at how marked it is. This is actually just fine though because the marks show up most when the device is off so the fact that the device doesn't power on isn't really an issue for these tests!
Anyway, I found the email confirmation for when I first placed the order and it was a Martin Fields Overlay Plus Screen Protector and my experiments above confirm in my mind that a good screen protector does make a huge difference as far as fingermarks are concerned, my old Artemis with the Martin Fields protector seems to pick up maybe 10% of the fingerprints compared to the in-the-box HTC protector on my Touch Cruise under about the same amount of finger dragging on each screen.

Brando is now selling the antiglare screen protectors. Emailed them and they said that they cover the whole face, not just the touch screen portion. You can get them here:
http://shop.brando.com.hk/prod_detail.php?prod_id=02323&dept_id=&cat_id=0019

No, I'm not buying before I see it how it looks like. As I wrote above, I ordered one from eBay. It is 0.5mm more narrow than the screen area. But the worst is, there's not a hole in the surface for the secondary camera - there's a whole area cut out, like with scissors. Otherwise, the surface seems pretty diffuse. I haven't tried it yet, because if I remove and ruin my current protector and I don't like the new one, I won't have any
So I'm waiting for responses/pics from other protectors
Brando's version is unfortunately like the one ingenious got off of eBay - with the large cutout vs. individual holes. Can't imagine it would have been that hard to cut them properly I'd prefer Brando quality with HTC fit.

I bought one from Brando's for my Orbit 2.
Quality is top as usual.
But:
I think they do the large cutout to make them fit to both, the cruise and the orbit 2.
The result is: You can use them for both device, but they do fit perfect neither for the polaris nor for the orbit 2.
Especially with the orbit 2 there is a large gap at the top of the protected area.
So I have to say, I was used to get better quality from brando's
JueLue
Shame, shame... Hopefully they will make them better at some point. Now I don't want to put mine because I'm afraid that if I don't like it, I won't be able to put the original one again
as i said in the other post..
I ordered both versions of the regular screen protectors from DuraSec. (not the liquid one)
I will post some photos and comments when i get them.

Thanks. Look forward to your post as my standard protectors's already looking suspect.
I ordered the more expensive ("self-healing") protector from Durasec and found it had the same problem as the Brando anti-glare protector: it refracts the light coming from the touchscreen, giving the pixels a broken-up, rainbow effect. Not nice or useful.
Guess I'm going to buy some more HTC ones, even though I ended up crumpling the first one out of frustration (bubbles, dust, etc).

I've first put the one delivered by HTC with the Polaris. Except the fact that the sticker perfectly match with the Polaris Form, it need to be cleaned at least 50x per day..
I've finally buy a set of universal screen protector. Of course you've to cut it by yourself, but the quality is pretty excellent and the price is really competitive (5 pieces for a price less than for 1 brando).

Why the HTC ones rather than the Brando Ultraclear? The thing I hate about the HTC protector is that it is no better than a bare screen as far as fingerprints are concerned. There is a thread running in the main Polaris forum (although a request has been made to the moderators to move it here) where other people are confirming how awful the HTC protector is re fingerpriints and also that the Brando UltraClear, although not as good as the AntiGlare regarding resistance to fingerprints, is a definite improvement on the HTC protector.
I confess that I'm still using the HTC protector but that's because I put it on my device immediately and now it's on I'm waiting a bit to decide what to replace it with. I don't like the Brando cutout but I think if pushed now I'd probably buy one of each Brando and see if I could live with the optical distortions of the AntiGlare and, if not, then use the UltraClear.
- Julian
P.S. I share your frustration re fitting these things; one of my least favorite activities.
I didn't try the Brando 'ultraclear' one -- I guess because I used one of these on a PDA years ago and found it to be 'ultraglare'. If I were sitting anywhere near sunlight, the screen became a mirror.
I suppose in the time since that's just become normal, as screens like the Touch Cruise are very shiny.
Looking at the various posts I think I'll go with the Brando UltraClear...
10$ + 3$ shipping is not so expensive (let's hope it will not be trapped by customs, in France that's pretty expensive even for a 10$ order).
Anyone aware about a way to get them from a European reseller instead of ordering directly to Brando in HK?
Thanks
DuraSec protectors
Hello all....
as i promised earlier i would report back once i got my DuraSec protectors and let you know how they are.
i just got them last night, so i ripped my HTC OEM one off, and put the cheaper "ClearTec" one on. on first impression, it is a slight bit TOO thin, as it is quite hard to get on without flipping and flopping around. Which in the end causes many small bubbles.
After some fiddling, i have it on looking semi-OK, and it doesnt mess with the screen clarity, nor refract light in any strange way that i can tell.
i do have a feeling that it will not last very long... but then again they market it as a temp. protector.
i will get back when i use the "HighTec".....
This is a possible way to improve the standard HTC screen protector which I'm pretty happy with except for one big issue, it offers absolutely no additional resistance against getting fingerprints all over the screen when not using the stylus and this is a big frustration for me.
Recently I decided to clean my protector using regular window cleaner that you can buy in supermarkets (I'm in the UK so I used "Non smear Windolene for glass and shiny surfaces"). I now only bother to wipe down the screen with a cloth every few days rather than after every few minutes of use which is what I had to do before (and yes, I do wash my hands very regularly!).
It's probably partly due to the fact that I've got better at remembering to try to use the fingernail side of my fingers rather than my fingertips but I think that a large part of it is due to the cleaner leaving some sort of coating because even when I deliberately do a few swipes with my thumb, which before would have left marks after even a single swipe, it is now pretty clear.
I didn't spray the cleaner straight onto the device by the way, that just seemed too risky, so I sprayed it onto a paper kitchen towel and then used that to apply the cleaner onto the screen.
For me I think this has improved things sufficiently that I might well just stay with the supplied protector.

Tilt2 Praetorian Crystal Slip cover review (Hard-rubberized)

This is my first review, so I hope it doesn't suck.
Both my wife and I have the Tilt 2. I decided to go with InvisibleShield while she wanted a case. After looking at all the comments here about cases not fitting, I decided to go with 2 different ones from Amazon. One fit horribly, so i wont even mention it.
She is using the Tilt2 Praetorian Slip and she loves it. Installation was a little tough as the fit is pretty precise. I suggest installing the top (screen) side first and then the bottom (keyboard). Install both with the KB extended. I have attached pics of the fit.
The only complaint I have (she thinks of it as a feature) is that the cover makes it a little more difficult to slide out the keyboard. She like it because it used to slide open in her purse (mostly because of the fact that she keeps it in an inside pocket of her purse which causes it to hit just right against crap she has in another pocket). Overall, this is a pretty nice cover. I am sure you can get it cheaper than amazon, but I had gift certificates to spend
Hope this helps!
Thanks for the review! I bought the same case a few months ago, although it was advertised as for the Verizon Touch Pro 2. I was unaware they made one for the Tilt 2. Now I won't have to worry about it falling off randomly!
thsi case probably wouldnt work with invisible shield on too huh

Neat.. glad yours fit. I ordered one for the Tilt2 from Amazon as well, and Boxwave sent one labeled 'Touch Pro 2'. I see yours doesn't have a cutout area for the PTT button either, do you have issues with that? My praetorian case would almost always trigger the PTT button whenever I handled the phone.
The top/screen portion of my Praetorian didn't fit right and opening and closing the top was almost impossible - even ended up ripping off the protective plastic along one side of the keyboard. (the protective plastic that is designed to be there, not the temporary stuff it whipped with) I can see just by looking at your pictures that your screen portion fits waay better than mine did.
When I contacted Boxwave about the issues, no questions asked and they sent a postage paid label for the return. I'd love to try this case again, as I did like the feel of it, but nervous about another no-fit. I went with BodyGuardz instead.. not sure I'm happy with those..
Thanks,

Man, sorry you had so many issues. The PTT button is indeed covered, but she has had no issues with it at all (hers is remapped to toggle bluetooth on and off). The fit on the screen portion is *very* tight. Took some effort to get it installed properly.
Also, mine definitely said "Tilt 2" on the packaging.
It is disappointing that it covers the PTT button. I assume your wife has abandoned that function (easily switching BT on/off)?
Thanks for posting reviews on this case -- I'm trying to decide what route to take to give my new Tilt 2 some added protection, and more importantly, cut down on the slickness/smudge magnet-ness of the shiny battery cover (which is my #1 gripe with the GSM TP2, both CDMA versions have rubberized covers which won't fit their GSM siblings due to the placement of the 3.5 mm jack).
I really wish someone made a rubberized battery cover to replace the shiny OEM one. These snap on type cases are okay, but they become a major pain as soon as you need to pop off the battery cover in order to flash a new ROM (as I do often), reset the device, or swap out memory cards. I worry trying to snap-in and pry off these cases frequently will damage the phone -- especially when it's a super snug fit. IMHO, a rubberized battery cover, along with perhaps the upper portion of this case to protect the chrome bezel from getting nicked would be an ideal solution! I may just go down to Home Depot this weekend and see if they have a spray that can rubberize plastic, then I might just buy a spare OEM battery cover and see if I can rubberize it.

Nope, the PTT button still works perfectly under the cover. Does not get accidentally pressed and is responsive when you push it.

Sounds like skinning/shielding your phone with GadgetShieldz might be the way to go. The GadgetShieldz does take a little time to install but it works. The protective film on the screen is easy to install and bubble free. It makes the phone non-slippery. It would not protect the phone like a case but it does prevent scratches. When installed, it adds very little weight and dimension to the phone.
Actually, there are other protective films/shields but I only have experience with GadgetShieldZ. It might work for you.

Just to report on this, I got one of these in the mail yesterday. So far I love it. It wasn't terribly difficult to get on. It fits very well too. My only real complaint is that it doesn't accommodate the PTT button that the Tilt 2 has right next to the volume buttons. It's not a big issue since I don't use PTT and the case doesn't prohibit using the key anyway.
Just be careful and make sure you order the one that specifically says it's for the Tilt 2. They make other models. I know they have the Praetorian on eBay but to be safe I opted to get mine directly from Boxwave. I got what I ordered too and could have used they're return policy if I needed.
Oh...I'll be happy to post pics if anyone wants but I think someone already put some up of this one a Tilt2.

I wish I'd seen your post sooner! Home Depot and Lowe's does indeed have something like that. I'm sure lots of hardware stores do. It's called Plasti-Dip. I have a can right here You can buy it as spray-on or dip/brush-on applications. I use it on mountain bike parts and tools for extra grip. I'm not positive how well it will stick to a slick plastic surface but it is an option.

I ordered one from BoxWave and I think I'm still going to shop around for something else. It seems like the Tilt2 has less options than the other variations of the Rhodium so people may just be settling for this due to "Slim Pickin's."
I like the way the gel gives more texture and grip to the phone, but I still feel uneasy because it's definitely not a snug fit. The part that covers the screen section of the phone is very flimsy and after you get it on, you want to keep checking it to make sure that it is attached; it feels like it can easily slip off at any time. This is specifically evident when you slide your screen up and tilt it. Tap the top right, or the middle section that really has no grip around the phone, and it might just pop off...
I still have it on my phone because it is the lesser of two evils, have something vs. not having something, but are there any other options for the Tilt2?

It's held up quiet nice...even with as much flashing I do (have to remove the bottom piece every time). I've figured out a great way to put it back on that's really fast and easy. Some people say it's difficult to get on. I think the top piece is the hard part but I've taken it off a few times and have no issues there either. It still fits good. If I remember, next time I take it off I'll shoot some pics of how I put it on and upload them.

I haven't really had any trouble with mine popping off. It took a bit to get the top on right and it was a pretty snug fit too. Getting the corner edges all the way tucked under was the hardest part. I'm guessing it's a manufacturing thing. Some say it's a tight fit and other say it's loose. I will agree that the sides on the top piece are flimsy because they're not attached the the phone but if they were it would probably make matters worse by either rubbing against the bottom piece or creating too big of a gap between the two parts of the phone.
I agree there aren't many options for the Tilt 2 and I hate to say it but there probably won't be.

If yours is a snug fit, I wonder if we received the same thing! Did you order from BoxWave? I have a little plastic tool that I used to get the corners onto the top half quickly which was actually made to fit into the creavice of a HTC Dash phone to pop the clips and take the phone apart. It works great and I can see the little flaps around the corner so you can tell the corners of the phone are between the gel lips.. It's still too easy to come off though..
Even though my receipt says "Praetorian Crystal Slip, HTC Tilt2, Smoke Grey - SKU: bw-268-3729-2808", it also says "ITEM: HTC TOUCH PRO2." The Box also has a white sticker in the top right that says "Praetorian Crystal Slip - TOUCH PRO2."
Do you remember if yours said the same? Maybe they somehow shipped me the wrong one?

It works great and I can see the little flaps around the corner so you can tell the corners of the phone are between the gel lips.. It's still too easy to come off though..
Even though my receipt says "Praetorian Crystal Slip, HTC Tilt2, Smoke Grey - SKU: bw-268-3729-2808", it also says "ITEM: HTC TOUCH PRO2." The Box also has a white sticker in the top right that says "Praetorian Crystal Slip - TOUCH PRO2."
Do you remember if yours said the same? Maybe they somehow shipped me the wrong one?

Yeah I got mine directly from boxwave. They have like 3 different models of that slip. Most of the adds I saw on Amazon and eBay claimed it would fit on 3 or 4 different TP2 models which I knew it wouldn't. I emailed boxwave about the pics in their online catalog because it didn't look like a Tilt 2 to me and they admitted it wasn't. They said they didn't have one for the pics. Which made sense I mean why spend that much just to get pics but they promised it would fit so I figured what the hell. The hard covers kinda suck.
Thanks for the replies, I guess I will go ahead and order it and see what happens.
I just got the unbranded version of this case off ebay (the seller's id was e-story).
It's not too bad on my unbranded TP2. It's slightly more difficult to slide out the keyboard, and when the screen is fully tilted, the top row of keys are slightly obscured, but nothing too major in my opinion.
I like that the case improves the grip of the phone, but I'm also rather concerned that the case will eventually melt under hotter conditions since the material feels rather gummy.

ZAGG's Invisible Shield: My fresh experience

*Note i have not experienced whether the product lives up to its name or not. I only JUST placed it on my device. This is simply my first impression.
**I included pictures of my device compared to the back parts of the adhesive so you can fully grasp the wonderful "custom to fit" experience.
I just now got as close to perfection as i think i am going to get with placing my "custom to fit" screen protector onto my device. At very first glance i saw that their were going to be some slight imperfections. The random circle on the top right of the adhesive was a dead giveaway. The cut out they have for the top speaker and the bottom row of buttons is hardly CLOSE to the size it should be. It is much too big. I am not sure if it is clear enough in the pictures but their is excess adhesive on the sides. I figured they may be meant to fold down to protect a minuscule amount of siding. At first i could not get it to stick on the sides. But after giving it a few minutes to settle and let the application spray* dry, it seems to be holding. However, the border has really ugly bubbles from the very tony inlay of the front of the phone. The instructions say that MICRObubbles will disappear in their own after a couple days... i hardly find these MICRObubbles though. We will see. I think it is almost supposed to have a "melting" effect on the device. Like heated plastic sort of taking the proper shape over the device.
Now we move onto the back. You will see that i have been given 3 holes instead of 2. (2 being the camera lens and the button underneath). I have no idea what the third was meant for.... I can also forget about taking the backing off of my device as it is now sealed shut with the plastic invisible shield. This doesn't bother me that much since i rarely ever have to take the back out but i know their will be a day where i will need to.
All-in-all the product LOOKS promising still. The bottom line here that i would like to make is that i have NO idea what TouchPro2 they are basing this off of. but it is far from mine. Too far. I need to check but i am also fairly certain they ask for your provider too (in case the device is different than others)
I am also still wondering about the excess sides. it is very random in the back but they make no mention of needing to trim the shield.
*They give you a spray that you use on your fingertips and the adhesive so that a. you dont give it fingerprint smudges and b. it doesnt fully stick right away so that you can "slide" it into place. I found that "sliding" it around was impossible because it still stuck but it did not stick enough to the point i was unable to retry.
I really hope this means something to somebody. Had i read something like this before hand, i may have thought longer on buying the product. I will be sure to write more in the next few days. By the feel of the material on my phone, it seems like it could work really well.
I would also love to know other people's experience with this product and even maybe correct me if anything i complained about was just due to stupidity.
It very much looks like you bought Invisible Shield for the wrong Touch Pro 2 model.
It looks like you have the one for the unlocked/unbranded model:
http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield/htc-touch-pro-2-cases-screen-protectors-covers-skins-shields.php
When in fact you want the T-Mobile model.
http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield/htc-touch-pro-2-t-mobile-cases-screen-protectors-covers-skins-shields.php
It looks like the shape of your T-Mob branded TP2 is actually quite different from the unbranded version. The shape of the shield is therefore quite different between the models, based on the pictures on the Zagg website. Also, the layout of the battery cover is totally different, which is why the cutouts on the shield don't match your battery cover. This also accounts for the 3rd small hole on this piece. In addition to the camera lens and speakerphone button, the unbranded TP2 has small holes for the speaker just below the speakerphone button, and that is what the 3rd hole in the shield is for. I'm guessing on the T-Mob version, the speaker hole is located as part of the larger cutout/hole.
Not to be mean but it's really obvious that it wasn't made for a T-Mobile Touch Pro2 and you should have known that it wasn't the right one.
Just going to the Touch Pro2 forums you can see that there's different versions of the device and ours is usually always referred as the "T-Mobile Touch Pro2" when being specific.
The cover does seem worth buying though.
Yeah i just inquired about it. I did buy the T-Mobile one and they just sent the wrong one.

Oddly, the Tilt2 had little holes in the back case in the same spot, despite the fact that it is just the battery sitting behind the holes. I always figured it was just a way to give water quick access to the battery compartment to turn that little strip pink incase we ever dropped it somewhere damp...

[Q] Should I return my Otterbox Defender? Will the return be accepted? Plus a poll!!

Overall I've really liked my Defender--I just found a "new" feature where the belt clip can stay open for even MORE kickstand options!--but it's a little bulky, the battery is a ***** to remove, and already, even though I've been very careful with the case (barely left the house since I bought it since I've been home studying all day!) there are noticeable white "specks" on the screen and the bottom latch that holds the two plastic pieces together has broken somewhat!
Again, I've loved the protection (though one last thing that bugs me is how the screen protector is cut a hair too low at the top). Think Best Buy will honor the return, no questions asked, etc? I've still got the receipt, box, etc., and it's within the return period (30 days).
Thanks for any advice, including alternate great-protection cases with less bulk and/or easier to take off to do a battery pull!
Panamaniac
PS: the "speck" is out of focus, sorry. There are several like this that I can't seem to remove. Cant even tell if they're on the inside, outside, are a scratch, or what!!
The only complaint I really have is the height of the case next to the screen. It makes hitting those corners on the touchscreen too difficult.
Other than that, I have been pleasantly surprised. I will still probably switch it out when the Kraken II or Ballistic is unleashed.
Yes best buy will let you return it the otterbox defender rip off my invisible shield and best buy was like o sorry and she returned it
yeah the will. I returned mine with some nicks on it and they took no questions asked. I really dont need that much protection right now..once I start my job again then I will pick it up until then im rocking a TPU case and it works amazing. Ive dropped my phone onto my houses doorway edge and nothing was hurt or broken.
Ya touching the sides is difficult at times, and that's been annoying.
Thanks for the info on easy returns, I might do just that...
Snarebum, when you say TPU, I know that refers to a certain material (the fake silicone stuff right), but do you also mean a super-cheap one or what? what case did you get?
they are not super cheap material as far as I can tell..
heres the one I bought and I absolutely love it!

Bent / Kinked phone users - Which case are/were you using?

I may have stumbled onto something regarding your kinked phone. Please post which case you are or were using when you noticed your phone was kinked/bent. Here is my post from the bent phone thread:
So here are my observations and theory..
I haven't actually had a 6p until about 5 minutes ago. I have, however, read many posts about bending and build quality. I saw a few similarities and one important post that kind of put it all together. Of course there is a good chance I'm wrong but here's my theory:
I noticed most of the posts mentioned having it in a case the entire time. I also noticed many users were using the Spigen Rugged Armor or the Google Adopted case.
The most telling post of them all was the user that pushed the metal with their thumb between the power and volume buttons and saw it kink very easily.
I happen to have a Spigen Rugged Armor case (that I won't be using!). I also have a Spigen Ultra Hybrid case to compare it with. But first, the theory..
I believe the case is causing the kink/bend when using the volume and power buttons. Specifically, I believe the phone will kink/bend the very first time you take a screenshot using the Spigen Rugged Armor case.
There is a difference between the two cases I have. The Rugged Armor case has a divider or bumper between the volume and power buttons that the Ultra Hybrid does not have. This little bumper would rest against the exact place we're seeing the kinks. Since the power and volume buttons are not "active", meaning they are not functioning just a flexible part of the case, if you were to press both the power button and volume up/down button at the same time there would be a good amount of pressure between the two buttons. If it was easy to kink it with a thumb, I bet there would be enough pressure to kink it with the bumper/divider. Take a look at the divider between those two buttons. You can't tell very well but that divider is protruded outwards towards the phone not inwards away from it:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8njSxDff8WsZy1KX2o0QzEzbmc/view?usp=sharing
Again, I may be wrong but I believe that's the only explanation of why some are bent/kinked and others are fine. Still, it's sad that the phone is this weak but if I'm right at least it's preventable.
Guess a hard plastic back (Speck / Ringke etc) is important for a case - on this phone. The soft bendable TPU ones (Adopted / Spigen ) may not add to the structural integrity of the already weak frame.
Do you really think your theory is clever enough to warrant a new thread to the already numerous discussions about bent phones? Just to be clear, you're saying that a case is causing the phone to bend/kink right?
If anything, a rigid or even semi rigid case can only add structural integrity. Would it have helped if the case had more reinforcement by the buttons? Probably. But it shouldn't matter in the first place - a (seemingly) high end phone like this shouldn't have a major problem like this. I, along with most people on this forum, remember laughing at the iphone 6 bendgate and how it was such a weak phone. Jokes on us - the iphone was built like a tank compared to the 6p. Did you hear about an iphone 6 bending because of the type of case it had? NO.
The 6p is VERY poorly designed and made with poor materials. It's not an option, it's a fact. This thread, along with hundreds of anecdotal posts with dozen of pictures wouldn't exist otherwise. Unless you handle your phone like a newborn, it WILL eventually bend/kink - maybe not tomorrow or next week but within a years time the vast majority will be completely ****** regardless of what case was used - sad but true.

What is there to help? It doesn't matter what case someone uses. The weak construction of the phone is to blame in every instance...

If it is proven that certain cases cause the kink, then users do not use said case meaning users do not get kink. Bad phone design is irrelevant at this point since none of us can change the design but all of us can change the case. Get it?
This will be my last response to you.
Thanks
@cryppie
I've had the Spigen Rugged Armor from day one on my phone for over a month now. My phone has no bends or dents whatsoever. Maybe I'm more careful with my phones than most, but I don't treat this phone any more carefully than I have all other phones I have owned.
I don't think that bump between the volume keys and the power button would cause the bend you are referring to. You can easily trim that bump away if you are really worried about it, but I think it's pointless since I don't see that little plastic bump on the case causing any issues.
spigen rugged armor on mine for over a month as well and no issues of bending or anything at all on my phone
I'm using the Spigen case. I have been using it for a couple months now without any issues. I think it's more of a quality control thing where some devices are defective honestly.

I get what you're trying to say but it makes no logical sense. Not only is it impossible for a case to cause a protruding kink but people are getting identical failures regardless of if/what case they are using. Likewise, others have not had any issues with the spigen rugged armour you claim is causing the problem. The only thing you might get out of this thread is what the most popular cases are. Such a weak correlation cannot "prove" anything especially not causality.
I started with the Verus HighPro Shield case, and kept it on for a while. Recently I switched to a Spigen Neo Hybrid EX. Both are TPU cases with an additional rigid polycarbonate bumper frame around the edge. My phone has no bends or kinks of any kind.
P.S. - I had never used this type of a case before, but it is my favorite kind now. I also have a MoKo Holo, which is a hard polycarbonate back plate molded to a TPU bumper. I absolutely hate how that feels. I suspect I will also dislike other similar cases (Spigen Ultra Hybrid, Supcase Slim, and Ringke Fusion). The TPU bumpers always make the buttons feel very mushy to me, and the hard back just lets too much lint in right away, as it can't hug the phone like a TPU back does.
**edit wrong thread, sorry**
Of those that have seen a kink appear near the power or volume buttons - Are your buttons tight and give firm click, or do they have some movement (sideways/wobble) or maybe rattle slightly?
Maybe loose buttons could allow the thin aluminium frame the space to kink when flexed - When buttons are tight there is no space/air gap for the frame to bend, the buttons might be providing the extra rigidity.
Personally my buttons are tight with zero movement. They give a nice click when pressed. Ive not seen any issues with kinks or bending on my phone. It sits in my front jean pockets most of the time, bending down, getting in cars etc. Not a single problem. I only have a Nillkin Nature soft case on it which adds no protection against bending.
My phone is just as flawless as the day I got it. Nothing that has been reported is affecting mine... no bending, no scratching of the paint (Graphite), and no pink hue on the screen. Absolutely none of that stuff is happening so I personally think that these people just got a bad batch or something because I'm not handling this phone any different than any of my previous phones. Case in point, if you look at all the videos where people try to bend their phones none of them are the same. There's videos of people who tried as hard as they could to bend the phone and were unsuccessful and even those that did manage to bend it there was some serious white-knuckle work needed to get it to do so.
I used the Ultra clear hybrid case for $13.99 on Amazon but sent it back. I removed it several times times in the week I used it. No bend gate here. I just prefer the phones the way that were intended. I didn't buy a metal phone to cover it with plastic etc. ...
Ii have a leather pouch that I use to carry device but I'm pure naked, cases add and disrupt the natural algorithm. My Note 4 has no case and it looks perfect still

Your assumption is wrong regarding the Spigen and Adopted causing a 'kink' or damage to the phone. We all should be familiar with the phrase correlation != causation I own both causes along with 15 others, and the case is not the issus. I've used my Spigen Rugged Armor extensively on 3 different 6P's and non of them had an damage, issues, or defects around the area in question. The same can be said for the Google Adopted case which I used for over a week until my other cases arrived. My wife had her Adopted case on longer, yet her phone is perfectly fine too.
I haven't seen a single cause damage the phone even with how tight/hard to remove some of them are. This OP uses a logical fallacy which should be obvious to people st first sight. I am not saying my experiences are a tell tale for everyone, but if the issue was that common, it should have been reproducible via on of the 6Ps I've used with the cases mentioned.
Been using the Spigen Rugged Armor case for the past 2 weeks. No kinks yet or blemishes yet. Sometimes I remove the case to clean up some accumulated dust and lint but nothing much. The case itself isn't on too tight either. Fits well though.
