General question about rom's - Touch Pro, Fuze ROM Development

I do not know if this has been answered, but I will ask it anyway. So i read that ROM's do increase your performance in windows mobile. I am currently using the stock ROM from ATT and it lags a bit even when I simply open the keyboard and it goes to landscape mode. Will flashing a cooked rom fix that?
The reason i ask isbecause i am scared to flash my rombecause i do not want to brick my device. I tried several times to flash hard SPL but I get an error each time. I connect my phone to my PC, active sync is on, and the installer does detect my firmware version, but then tells me there is a problem with the installer. I have windows vista if that makes a difference

First, make sure you HardSPL before flashing. Don't skip it. The reason why a customized ROM is faster than the stock ROM is because chefs has removed all unnecessary files from it and add better applications/drivers... etc.
If you ask me, it's worthy a try.
As for your hardspl problem, I find it much better to hardspl on XP (personal experience)... but when you CID unlock your device, it's better on Vista (don't ask me why)

Have you tried this yet? [solution] G4 SoftSPL Flash any ROM to CID locked G4 [UPDATED]
You should be able to use SoftSPL with Vista without much of a problem HOWEVER, it is reccomended you use a computer with XP because should the update fail, Vista cannot communicate with the phone in tri-color mode(bootloader).
it says
it says will not work on vista...
I do not know what ancient version of shelltools you use or what strange ROM you try to flash... I used shelltools multiple times without problems (faria real thing, crossbow reloaded, pandora. xda mobile, wrcx. tnt and others, sometimes in several versions). All these were custom WM6 ROMs.
Mirek
yea
i have been using shell tool for the pass couple of months im tired of the precautions taken with it and if gives you headaches when you reflash
I do this when using shelltools:
1. I flash my provider's ROM
2. I use the CAB files acccompanying shelltools (cert...cab, enablerapi.cab)
3. I restart Wizard
4. Again point 2.
5. I flash the ROM I want with shelltools
6. If the ST do not end, I cut it after 30 minutes (all will be ok)
If anything goes wrong (it happened only once) I flash my providrer's ROM and repeat.
As far as I understand it is *impossible* to brick the Wizard with shelltools. So complete safety.
Mirek
i tried shelltool on a xp machine and im still getting custom rom error any help will be appreciated please
No idea. Maybe try to get another version of shelltools... Maybe the one you use is wrong...
And what ROM do you try to flash?
Mirek
after ur post i downloaded shell tool from another location and im still getting the same comment i even tried another rom "wizard love "
The picture is ok, I guess you misunderstood how the ST works...
a) Press "Extract OS".
b) After the OS is extracted, the button "Flash OS" will be allowed. Press it.
c) Then it will flash.
Mirek
mirekluza thanks alot man im officially now on WM6 "tnt 5 "
NOTE : for every one using windows VISTA when u click flash OS the app will be "waiting for response " Don`t panic just wait for 45 min and unplug the usb and make a hard reset it will work fine after the rest
theres many roms you can flash...all you have to do is just be patient and not to get eiger while flashing alot of people misunderstand when you enableRapi Reboot your Phone.
i just flashed a new rom just follow the basic intructions given plz dont leave the detail parts out
Using Shelltool on Vista
As mentioned previously, when you run Shelltool on Vista it generally won't ever return and tell you it's finished! However, you can actually tell when it's done for sure, rather than just waiting a certain amount of time.
When you're ready to start Shelltool, that is, you've enabled RAPI, rebooted your Wizard, and connected it to your system, open File Explorer on your desktop at the top level ("Computer") and open Pocket_PC (or whatever you've named your Wizard). Go to the root folder of the Wizard and just leave the Explorer window open. (Note: you have to have the explorer window open BEFORE you start to flash, or you won't be able to open your Pocket_PC folders.)
Start Shelltool as instructed and start the flash process. Now go back to the explorer window and refresh it. You'll see a file called "itsutils.log" in the top level folder of the Wizard. Open the file, and you'll see the detailed logging of each block that Shelltool writes. The logging for each block is five or six lines long (I don't have an example right now.) Regardless, the OS is 0x38e0000 (hexadecimal) blocks long. When the log file reaches block 38e0000 it starts spewing error messages with that block number over and over again. (Note: you have to close the file and reopen it to get it to update. So, it it's not yet reached block 38e0000, just close it and wait a little longer.)
When it starts doing that, the flashing process is done!
It seems that, at least on Vista, Shelltool is not looking for the end of the data file correctly, so it tries to write block 38e0000 over and over again, but, since there is no block 38e0000, it just logs an error message.
At this point, if you disconnect the USB cable, Shelltool will THEN issue an "end" message. Hard reset as instructed.
I should point out that one of the problems with Shelltool is that you can ONLY flash the OS, not the extended ROM, radio, splash screen, etc. That makes it sorta limiting.

flash problem for imate jamin

can anyone know how to flash ..imate jamin ..i cant...i tried it form prophet..one stiky..but ..it didnt work ..so can anyone know how to ..do it ..and do usb wire do ..work for doing flash ???and which software do you ned it to flash ...so if anyone do know about it ..do help me ..thnx
Read the wiki from start to finish before you even attempt to flash a ROM - all answers are there - they've all been asked thousands of times. You can find it here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Prophet
i need another kind of flash
actually。。the kind of flash i need is ..as shown on pic..i downloaded it and ...try to run it but it says ..the file is corrupted...in win xp.. ..and it dont run at all in vista...whats the matter.....i would better attach u the direct link of that some of the links here are not working at all too ...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=377904
actually, what you show here is a flashing tool, not the ROM itself. Please read throughout the forum. Most of the newer ROMs have an updated flash utility that you will need to run on a machine with an XP operating system. Only if your device is a G3 can you flash ROMs from a machine running Vista. And with the newest ROMs it is not possible as far as I am aware at all.
Please read... this has been covered in-depth literally thousands of times throughout the forum and all your questions are answered.
may be you are true..but the thing is ..i dont know ..whats the problem lies on my jamin....thats teh reason i want to flash it ....the problem is ...my battery dont long last more than 12 hrs..without being used at all(standby mode) after its 100% charged....the battery is new ..and when i try that battery with my frens pda it works for more than 3 days..thats the reason i want to flash it ...i tried that as u said..tried installing diff versions of windows..but still it didnt work at all.so can u find out where the problem lies...i do make my bluetooth WIFI and beam always off .....thnx
...can anyone find ...whats the problem of my imate?????why its battery time is so less???

[Q] need help about firmwares

im new to android, very familer with flashing nokia phones but this seems a whole new ball game..
id like to root my galaxy s2 and also flash a generic firmware removing all the t mobile start screens and crap, maybe i could just do that with root access maybe?
anyway, im completly lost, ive read through loads of posts here, and im lost when XXWXW or what ever is mentioned, and im to download the in secure version.. here is what i got :>
wth?? wont let me post image hosted at imageshack, is just a screenshot of my about page on me phone..
wow, no way to post the image atall
i have to write all the versions and stuff tomrow, im going bed now.. would be easier if allow me to post a simple image lol..
any help on which firmware files i need would be great..
i got the odin flasher, just need to know what firmware i need, or what files i need to root my phone, as i dont see anything that matches to any official generic firmwares on here, neither can i find the insecure file i need..
thanx in advance
First of all, welcome to android, and like you I came from the world of symbian too. I must say, it can be a bit confusing, all these new terms to get used to but here we go, ill try and clear it up for you with just what applies to the sgs2 for simplicity.
First of all get Odin 1.85, which you said you got anyway.
Now, go to SamFirmware.com, sign up, then navigate to the android firmwares, select the sgs2 from the list, scroll down to XXKH3 (latest and in my opinion the best stock firmware), and download it.
You also need to find an app called superoneclick, I use v1.65, its not the latest, but always works for me, search the forumss or Google it, you should find it easily.
Once all is downloaded and extracted to a folder assumingly on your desktop your ready to go.
First off, switch your phone off and boot it into download mode by holding volume down, home button and power on. You should arrive on a black screen with some writing on and a yellow triangle. Press the up button once, you are now in download.
Connect your phone to PC, and let it install any drivers, I can't reneger at this point if I needed to provide specific drivers as it was a long time ago, but you may need to search for some or look for another "how to" if you have problems.
Start Odin, and without altering any checkboxes, press the PDA button and navigate to your folder where you unzipped/rar'd the firmware and select the one with "code" in the title. Then press phone and select the file with "modem" in the title. Lastly press csc and select one of the two files with "csc " in the title. Make sure you have the correct files and forget about the ones left for now. When sure, press "start".
When complete, your phone will restart and you should have a brand new copy of XXKH3 on your phone, which will now be wiped by the way, so back up and stuff you have first.
Now, you need to find the thread on here that provides "insecure kernels " download and flash any insecure kernel using the method described above except only using the "PDA" button, this step enables you to do the rooting bit next.
Once booted back up again, ensure that "USB debugging" is enabled, and open up and run superoneclick, just press the "root" button and let it do its thing. Reboot back into download mode.
Now, last step is to flash back the stock secure kernel. Start up Odin again, and press "PDA" then select the file with "kernel" in the name from the original download from SamFirmware. Flash it, and once rebooted, you now have stock latest unbranded firmware with root.
If your unclear about anything, ask and ill try and help, please do be careful, as is always the way with these things, you can brick it.

good to talk to an ex symbian user, i used to admin symbian freak forum lol, think i still might have the highest post count lol, anyway, symbian is a dead os, but was much simpler to debrand and flash, specially when nokia brought out there online update tool, was just a case of changing product code to debrand,, before that i used jaf, still got my jaf flasher somewhere, and pkey..

ok well if u sscroll down or press ctrl + f and type xxkh3 it will take u there .. but i am also guna update my firmware for first time and heres the link for firmware in case.
hotfile.co m/dl/127188601/47c712c/I9100XXKH3.rar.html << as i am new member it would let me put link properly
Yes, that's the one, the file named I9100XXKH3, it'll most likely be zipped or rar'd. When you extract it it will be several tar.md5 files
I used to spend ages on symbian freak, I must say I think android is easier, only pain is you need different binaries for windows for all different oem's that run android to flash. It can get complicated if you flit from one brand to another like I do a lot.
It's a shame symbian didn't keep up, as I liked it, very functional, just cumbersome to use. Although I must say that belle looks nice, although very Android like.
Just go to this thread for firmwares and guide on how to flash the device: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278

How to flash: Read the instructions that you find on various threads carefully! take your time, don't jump into it.

This guide here shows how to install clockwork mod on your device:
http://www.inspiredgeek.com/2011/06...cwm-recovery-for-samsung-galaxy-s2-ii-how-to/
And these instructions tell you how to install via Clockworkmod:
BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!!
Download the rom zip (don’t rename it!)
Put the downloaded zip file on your internal sdcard
Reboot into ClockworkMod Recovery (don’t do this from rom manager, it won’t work)
Select Install zip from sdcard
Select Browse for zip on sdcard
Select the zip file you put on your sdcard above
(Let if flash)
Reboot, Enjoy!
yea, nokia made mistake with symbian.. it was a great os back in the day when it was open, like 2nd edition symbian where all system files could be accessed, then if i remember correctly the n80 was the first 3rd edition symbian device, which had a whole load of stupid security features stopping us power users / modders having access to system files.. this was the downfall of symbian i belive, but it was hacked eventually, but then the touch screen revoloution came about, and symbian just simply isnt an os that is usable on a touch only input device, like 5800 for example..
the whole theme that originated symbian to how it was, was the fact it could be very easily used in one hand, but touch screens killed that, and they tried to addapt but failed misserably imo.. now i hear nokia are going with windows 7 mobile, i dont know why they dont use android, well i do, cus its based on linux and easiliy hackable and moddable which for some reason nokia hates.. not sure what happened with the meegoo, or meamo os on the n900, i gave up on nokia after the 5800 and n8.. 5800 was a total failure, worst phone ive ever had, the n8 wasnt so bad, but so sluggish annd everything was so long winded, like simple tasks like changing ring tones had to go through 9000 menu pages, but thats symbian for you lol.. the camera on the n8 i still belive the best camera on any phone to date, just a shame the os the phone has..
one final question before i flash.. whats differnce beetween

So I need the one that wipes right? Id like a fresh install. completely fresh debranded firmware with nothing else. all my contacts and calendar are most important to me but there all on my Google account.
thanx for help. just need to be tottaly sure before I flash.
Also. I have bricked several Nokia symbian devices in my time. but was able to do a dead flash via usb. or if this failed then I would have to dead flash the device using jaf with fbus cable. now if something did go wrong and brick my s2 is it possible to revive via a usb dead flash as I don't have fbus cable for this device or know if such a thing even exists. I've been out the phone modding game for a long long time due to illness. still in recovery now. just wonder what options I have if something was bad to happen. as we all know flashing any device has some amount of risk.
thanx again guys. much appreciate the prompt replies.
Marty
One thing to be wary of, that is a certain death situation if you lose it, is to back up your /efs folder. It contains important information such as imei and more. Flashing normally doesn't touch that folder but it has been heard of for it to go corrupt when flashing. It's rare, but can happen. I have flashed mine dozens of times with no ill effects. There are instructions on this forum of how to do it, unfortunately I think you have to be rooted first in order to do it.

Yes, it will be a fresh install.
You can also wipe it manually by booting in recovery mode (vol. up + home + power).
Cool. so there is a Rom (read only memory) partition that can't be access only via recovery mode? and if something was to go wrong you can always boot into recovery mode and re install the stock factory firmware? if something was to go wrong. am I understanding you correctly? bit like the recovery options from a windows pc for example.
or am I completely off key here lol.
another quick question is about sp lock. I pretty sure my sgs2 is locked to t-mobile and if anything like symbian devices flashing firmware does nothing to the sp lock. is this the same with android devices. or more specifically the sgs2? I remember the Nokia bb5 phones was unlockable for many many years. as Im sure some of you remember the great dejan keljavic found a way to unlock bb5. that was years ago so Im guessing there is most likely even stronger algorithms for sp unlock? But that was Nokia and this is Samsung. so is sp unlock a possibility? not that its super important to me as Im on contract anyway but is nice to know if possible. is pointless Google unlock sgs2 as every website in the world claim they can do it via calculating code from imei lol. which are all scams.
thanx again for helping a droid noob lol. anything anyone need to know about symbian Im happy to help. more so on 2nd. 3rd and 5th edition symbian os. not so much on symbian^3 but still got n8 which runs this os so happy to help if an occasion should arise. which is doughtfull as I think android is the future.
Marty
You use CWM to create a nandroid backup, then anytime you want to restore your default system, just restore it.
To flash .tar files you use Odin for Windows.
Actually its very simple, there is an app you can download from the market that will find the code for you, called sgs2 unlock. You do need root first tho.
hello again, still havent got round to messing around with my phone yet lol.. but im going to do it tomroow, i know some time has passed now, and im currently downloading I9100XWKK5 from samfirmware as its 2.3.6.. making the latest stock unbranded firmware for my device right?

Download a stock ROM from the HTC support site for your country with your S/N,connect your HD2 while on the bootloader (colored screen) and start flashing the ROM.
I think you can also get the spesific ROM for your device from here at the ROM Development section.
Hi, htc site downloads only the latest rom, i can't find the section where to put a serial number... anyway, i've downloaded the latest one for my country and from the SD it stucks on grey screen "Loading..." from USB it stucks on 0% (black screen with loading bar and no HTC logo)
Do someone knows where the htc site accepts s/n for downloading?

As for the point 2: how can i connect it to active sync if it does not boot?
i've tried all options of HSPL and it won't flash anything, any version 1.66, 2.08 or 3.03.
If you are on tri color screen the pc and Active Sync must be able to recognize it.
however if you cannot Flash the HSPL your only hope is that you Flash a stock official ROM of your Devices original country and to do that you must know the exact region for your FW.
Same also happened to me once,I discovered that my HD2 FW country was South East Asia !! so after downloading and flashin it evrything started working once again.
Anyway if it didnk work, just go to the below link and ask help there from a guy called Anthony, register or use you facebook account for faster reply,he ussualy hangs around there and is always willing to help.

Can't flash radio
Hi there,
After some different succesfull android installations I decided to do a task29. After that I couldn't flash the radio. Even with SD-method (renaming nbh-file on SD-card) I kept a white screen with HTC-logo, no RDG info on the buttom of my screen.
Then I flashed a stock winmo rom, succesfully. However, I want to go back to android. First think of checking some roms on SD. They all seem to get stuck on booting (or what ever). No progress, even after maybe 30 / 40 minutes. This is not normal, right?
I am reluctant to flashing any other stuff, scared of bricking my phone.
Can any one give me good advise? Like how I can get SD-roms to work for starters.
Thanks,
Mike

this is a load your phone back to 1.24
to install it i did this
turn phone off hold down volume down and turn phone on you should go to the bootloader screen then plug in your usb cable to the pc,
then on the white line at the bottom on phone screen should say usb instead of serial but maybe it will need to install some drivers cant remember 100%
when it is ready open that file and click the RomUpdateUtility.exe and follow the steps in that then you will have your phone back to 1.24
next you can follow this post here and download the attachment at the bottom named DFT_XSPL_WP7FG1.rar this what u need for this step
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195647
basically this is the install procedure u may need to install active sync (XP) or windows mobile device center (vista and 7) but i did not have to my phone automatically did this
DFT_RSPL_WP7FG1_LAUNCH allows you to load RSPL on the device:
1. Extract ALL files from RAR archive.
2. Run DFT_RSPL_WP7FG1_LAUNCH (with administrative rights to access USB)
3. Mindfully reads information text. Press “Next” button.
4. Reset your device and hold “Volume Down” button during reset to enter OSPL mode.
5. Connect your device to PC via USB cable.
6. Now you may need to install proper USB drivers. They come with Active Sync / Windows Mobile Device Center.
7. Install drivers if required.
8. Make sure device show “USB” at the bottom instead of “Serial”.
9. Press “Next” button in the wizard. It should detect your phone.
10. If you are using WCEUSBHS driver under Windows Vista/7 (for MTTY or MAGLDR TTY for example), you should apply “Windows XP compatible mode” in the properties of EXE file to get connection.
11. After successful connection it should show device codename and allows to choose installed OSPL version.
12. You should look at the screen and select OSPL version in drop down list box. You need do this because it’s not possible to detect installed version via USB.
If your current SPL version doesn't present in the list, you can choose nearest version,
BUT ONLY IF IT HAS SAME FIRST NUMBER!!
Example: You have 4.XX on the device. Do NOT choose 1.XX 2.XX 3.XX.
13. Press “Next”. Wait until comes final page.
14. Read and close window
15. Look at the device – it must reboot to RSPL.
16. If you see RSPLX.Y.Z and “CotullaRSPL” on the screen – the task done! Otherwise, please report in this thread about your problems.
17. Put some feedback in this thread for community and developers.
Installing HSPL
DFT_HSPL_WP7FG1_INSTALL allows you to install HSPL on the device:
1. Launch RSPL on the device like described above.
2. Be sure that you close RSPL wizard window.
3. Run DFT_HSPL_WP7FG1_INSTALL.exe (with administrative rights to access USB)
4. Mindfully reads information text. Press “Next” button.
5. Proper drivers already must be installed in RSPL step.
6. Press “Next” button in the wizard. It should detect your phone.
7. If you are using WCEUSBHS driver under Windows Vista/7 (for MTTY or MAGLDR TTY for example), you should apply “Windows XP compatible mode” in the properties of EXE file to get connection.
8. After successful connection it should show device codename and allows to choose HSPL or OSPL version to install. OSPL means you install stock SPL back.
9. Check device codename, if something wrong turn off computer and run to the nearest forest. Grab some water with yourself.
10. Press “Next”. Wait until comes final page.
11. Device will reboot and start to boot OS.
12. Reset it and enter SPL mode again. Be sure there HSPLX.Y.Z and “CotullaHSPL” appear.
13. Put some feedback in this thread for community and developers.

hi u don't need to worry about mobile device center this never picked up my phone either until I installed the custom rom
Don't ask why I've no idea
So what's happening when you press volume down and power you are seeing the multicolored bootloader screen right?
If so I don't know why the rom won't install for you
Maybe I've heard your firmware is at .707 if so you need y cables and its harder to downgrade your sol
tell me the firmware version please and ill try help u its in settings then about then advance on your phone if I remember
Oh also do not extract the 1.24 from the .rar file run everything from there
This is why ur getting that error I think

you dont need to select a option just load ROMUpdateUtility.exe
ive just downlaoded and reinstalled the rom myself to try see what u mean and i dont get this option
when you go to bootloader screen on your phone and it says usb open the rom file and click ROMUpdateUtility.exe
now dont open active sync or mobile tools as it says on the program information
just click the tick boxes and continue through the process
maybe try download the rom again found this
ERROR [208] : FILE OPEN
ERROR [210] : FILE READ
These error messages indicate that RUU lacks certain important files and cannot continue with the update. Please get the complete RUU package again.
but like i sed i have downloaded the file myself and it is working for me without any problems

Thanks for the help.
My firmware is 2250.21.40600.61,hope I don't need y cables for this version..
I see the multi coloured screen, and once plugged in to my pc it says usb at the bottom..
Strangely the 1.24 rom update works sometimes and not others, can you remember when you do done it, did it tell you want version currently on? because it didn't for me, I pressed next until update screen and was on 0% for bout 6-7 mins, my phone also displayed the same, how long did it take roughly
As regards to the Dynamics rom update.exe ( I opened with no phone attached ) It says welcome to the advanced rom update utility for Htc Mozart below that are, two ruu options.. regular (this is default) and below is custom I was thinking or using logic that I don't think i have hehe.. that the custom would be the option? or leave it
I really appreciate your help on this, I have installed many custom rom on android, but this windows phone grr annoying but I wont give up.

lol np mate ill try help as best i can
right i understand your bit now about the dynamics rom u need to select regular on this part
custom i think would be if u want to edit it or some **** but i have no idea so u use regular mate because this is the actual rom file made but remember u must downgrade and load rspl and hspl onto your phone before doing this step
right my firmware is 2250.21.51301.401 but i dont know if this changes on installation of the downgrade and adding the custom rom like i sed im a complete noob with this myself but all went smoothly for me thats why i made the tutorial
and no mate my phone took about 5-10 mins to install the 1.24 orange rom
have u tried a hard reset first and then see if it helps with the installation
ill search around for your firmware and see if there has been issues
edit..........................................
did a search on the forums and your firmware comes up with nothing :/ did a google and only shows this thread did you type the numbers correctly?
