noob goofed and has no internet - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

here's whats up... first of all... I want to thank everyone here for their amazing info and files. these last few days have been a real eye opener for me to look and learn new things. that being said....
I have a uscc 6800. I upgraded to nue spl 2.47 then to radio 3.42.5 then went to dcd 3.3.4 as i had read it was stable and opperating well. I think thats where i goofed. I allowed it to set up its own settings then I ran the uscc carrier cab.
I have no internet. my #777 says I need a valad password and username but had never had one before. my fiance's phone doesnt need one... (I'm not touching hers at this point in time)
any thing... any help.... any hints tips etc. PLZ

ok. i think i get it now.
here is the biggest issue I have.... I have checked epst and it appears to all be the same. was there some step I missed... is there some fix I'm not finding or am I just screwed?

With USCC I have always found it best to use QPST to backup and restore the phone's programming before/after flashing. Then there is only 1 thing that has to be edited in EPST when it's all said and done.
What kind of phone is your GF's? The same model?
If so you can use QPST to read her phone's programming and update the MSID/Phone # info and write it to your phone and it should work.
QPST info is not the same as EPST info, they do have some cross over but both also contain unique info and when you upgrade to a v3.x radio, it trashed alot of the settings in QPST, which is why it's best to back it up first.
BTC

This sounds like something I've done in the past, but not with USCC. I had flashed a dcd ROM and then installed a carrier cab, but it continued to ask for a valid username or password. There are a couple of things you can do. First, do a hard reset of the device, then install your carrier cab. AS SOON AS installation completes, soft reset the device. If your connection is still not working, go to Settings>Connections>Connections and try to configure or set up a new modem connection. You will have to enter in the username and password for USCC internet. This information can easily be found in EPST also.

thanks for the help guys
I appreciate every thing u guys suggested but had failed to report back that I had fixed it... infact my gf's phone was the same and I did go back and compare the two epst's and had found that a 2 had changed to a 1. changed that back and got my svcs back. I have however been looking for the qpst that everyone is speaking of but am at a loss as to where it is... any help?

QPST is available on the internets, somewhere. Do a Google search, I doubt it'd be safe for anyone to actually post that file on here. But you'll need to put the device in diagnostics mode to use QPST and also will need the modem drivers.
I'm sure if you search the XDA forums you'll find something

So Hopelessly Lost!

Even after reading this forum all nite, I am still soooo confused, maybe too much new info in m'head. At any rate, I am trying to UG from WM5 to WM6 and am having a heck of a rough time. Everything goes good until it actually starts the process, at which time I get the 260 Connection Error. After plenty of research on here, I decided to try to "flash" the ROM, to no avail, for nothing happened. I can get into bootloader mode but then nothing else happens (perhaps I'm not waiting long enough? How long should I wait?) and I never see the screen pictured here - http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_SDCardFlashing - so I just give up and reset. I am currently downloading the HardSPL utility so I can try flashing after the IPL and SPL ugrades. But I do have some questions still --
(1) Does my phone need to be "unlocked" to do this and how can I tell if it is or isn't?
(2) Can I just use the ROM that I downloaded from the HTC site or must I use one found somewhere on this forum?
Any other advice? All will be appreciated. Thanx.
Oh, yeah -- I'm working with a Cingular 8525 Hermes [HERM100 model number] Pocket PC. It's specs are:
ROM version 2.15.502.3
ROM date 04/09/07
Radio version 1.40.30.00
IPL 1.03
SPL 1.11
Have you read this http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_UpgradeForBeginners ?
Re:
Yes, I have, plus all the links branched from there. After about 3 hours of reading, I felt ready to try flashing, but it didn't work. The HardSPL utility is done downloading, so when I get home I'll try that and hope I finally get a successful upgrade. If not, I'll be back to the forums. Thanx!
What ROM are you upgrading to? The official AT&T ROM? I'd try that first if you're not already.

What operating system are you using? If its Vista you MUST use Mr. Vanx's guide to get past the connection problem. The standard Vista HTC driver is wrong when we want to flash rom's in bootloader mode and vista WMDC. Get it here:
MR VANX's VISTA GUIDE
Hard SPL is great after that. Just remember you warranty may be void if you have to go to AT&T for repairs and the see that bootloader. You shouldn't need Hard SPL to flash the standard AT&T rom or VP3G's or other AT&T based ROM's, but better safe than sorry.
Be sure to close EVERYTHING in the taskbar! Don't start any programs, allow any updates to mess around with the computer while its flashing..In fact, I disable my AV program and internet connection totally when I flash ROMS. (My Kaspersky started updating and virus scanning during my 1st flash..sucker froze and freaked me out!)
Once I dealt with unlocking and connection issues, I flashed the standard AT&T ROM, performed a hard reset immediately and then connected via WMDC and synced everything. I tested it for a few hours then decided to flash VP3G's excellent AT&T based ROM v3.62.3..I like to do a hard reset immediately after flashing to burn everything in...I've seen others in this forum do the same.
Another ROM I've found fun is S64's(Starbase64) 3.62 WWE v9 - It's not AT&T based but you can get WPBEAR's Config files to set your Medianet and proxy. There are other At&T settings CABs out there like Dr. Puttinghams. S64 ROM also includes Advanced Config 1.1 to set your keyboard to Cingular mapping.
Good Luck!

My desktop PC is running Windows XP...
After trying the HardSPL method - which upgraded perfectly - I continue to have the above-mentioned problems; 260 Connection Error and inability to move beyond the tri-color screen to the one pictured on the page which instructs how to flash via SD card.
Thanx for the list of ROMs I can try. For the record, I have been using the "official" one I downloaded from the HTC website. *sigh* I guess I'll next look for the tutorial I saw somewhere around here on how to upgrade from the tricolor screen [or something like that, I think it was], as well as your advice.
But I do have another question -- how do I format the SD card? The tutorial I used on flashing with it mentioned formatting so I'll retry it with the card newly formatted (I didn't because it said I could just delete everything off the card OR format it).
I'll let you know how it goes...
Ahhh...Sorry for your troubles...I didn't have luck catching an upgrade from the SD Card method on my 8525 either.
I know it seems a bit much but, is your active sync working correctly? Upgraded to 4.5 and all that? Can you sync and Backup all your data then try uninstal, reboot, re-installing AS?
I wonder what would happen if one tried Mr Vanx's instructions on a Win XP box?
I also had heard somewhere about messing around with when Active sync is started. Also as a last ditch, maybe try this from the HTC Wiki:

Just another tip... Try a different usb port. I've found that sometimes certain usb ports behave differently during the upgrade procedures. So, far I've upgraded three 8525's on Win XP and only one gave me the problem you've described and connecting the sync cable in another port corrected the problem.

OMG! SHIHAYADREAMER! That was JUST the TICKET! I read it and realized that I'd been doing it right all along, I just didn't realize I was! THIS time, I hooked up my cable at the very beginning and let it go. Before, I'd started waiting to hook it up until the instructions asked if I had because I'd gotten to the tricolored screen (the bootloader?) the 1st time and figured I did something wrong. Thanx to that forum, I returned to what I did the very first time and got victory! *falls down sobbing and weeping with joy* I wasted 25 hours because of fear! OMG! *dances around, singing* I've got WM6! I've got WM6!
I know that being reminded to turn off my firewall and stop all the programs in the taskbar played a big role, as well. But I just give a big "Thanx" (on Thanksgiving! *LOL*) to everyone who answered this board because you all helped me so very very much.

Brand new Alltel Titan - verifying upgrade procedure

I just know I am about to brick this thing and kill myself, but here is my understanding:
1. Use latest Olipro unlocker (2.40);
2. Use PPCKitchen to build WM6.1 and GPS ROM with the modules/etc. that I want - choose Alltel in the service provider dropdown box in the top right hand corner.
3. Build the ROM and choose the "upload rom to device" option.
I am sure this is already wrong, but here are my other questions:
None of the special code entries work. Things like ##<msl>#, ##778#, etc., so I can't find all my data settings and MSID. The information I have read says to enter these codes and nothing more. When I enter them, I am just staring at my dialer screen with that code typed in and nothing happens. Pressing send does nothing but try and call that number and there isn't an "Edit" or "View" button to press or anything of that sort. I can't find a walkthrough on how to enter those codes.
I just would love a lean install of wm6.1 with GPS enabled and some of the popular mods that will work with Alltel. I haven't found any good walkthroughs for Alltel users here or at PPCGeeks.
If anyone has any advice for a way to do this safely, let me know. You could even message me on AIM at Lucificate if I could pick your brain a bit. If this doesn't start making a whole lot more sense real quick, I will just learn to live with the default software my phone came with until HTC releases an official Alltel upgrade with 6.1 and GPS =)
First off to get to the settings its
##778 Talk.
then 000000 <6 zeros is the code
then yes looks like you have an idea..
Good luck.
Brad
Having same problem with Sprint Mogul using DCD rom with verizon settings. With the new rom the ## msl # comman does nothing. I reverted back to the unofficial sprint rom and it works again. The DCD rom looks much better, anybody got any ideas?
I'm on Verizon and my codes haven't worked for a long long time. The simplest thing is to go into your windows folder find the file called epst.ink and copy it to your start menu/program folder. Then whenever you need inot those setting you just go to your programs and select it.

At what point do you insert this step? I thought the kitchen included all the components for he flash. All I have found is some Sprint radio upgrade, not sure if I can just throw that onto the Alltel phone.
You can get the code using a program called getspc (search xda forums for it).
just after you install olipro 2.4, you flash to the sprint 3.35 (this will install the new radio) rom but do not allow the device to configure (do not tap screen when it asks you to), then immediately flash to dcd's rom.
I have a qwest mogul and using this procedure preserved all the information on the phone for Qwest (I didn't have to use the information I copied), but be sure to write them down just in case. Also, you may want to find the exit bootloader program, just in case your phone gets stuck in bootloader mode (I needed it).

Unless something has changed the kitchen does not include the radio. The safest way to get the radio installed is to flash the Sprint rom but don't allow the customizations to run unless you're a Sprint customer. Then you flash your custom rom for the specific carrier you're on. I'm on Alltel also and the Sprint rom will work fine to get the radio installed.
Be forewarned, though, that once you upgrade to the 3.35 radio, it might be tricky to flash to the stock Alltel rom once it is available. Some have had success relocking then reflashing and some have bricked multiple phones in the process. Apparently, downgrading a radio is much more taxing on the phone than upgrading the radio.

[Tutorial] Verizon xv6800 Custom ROM Flashing

As a new owner of a Verizon xv6800, I found some slight annoyances with the tutorials/guides posted so far. Therefore, I decided to write my own guide with the quickest and simplest way to upgrade directly from Stock firmware to the newest ROM and Radio. Despite my attitude towards past guides, I thank everyone who has posted a guide so far, as without those, I would not have been able to flash my phone or write my own guide.
Please let me know of anything that might need changed.
Thanks.
Tutorial is at http://ppc.stoleyour.net/xv6800/
Pretty cool guide - it should help real newcomers...thx for the post!
Can't dial "+1 (###) ###-####"
I was able to follow all the steps and flash succesfully. However, I am having trouble dialing phone numbers that include the "+" in front of the country code. This worked fine on the stock ROM, but when I flash I can not dial any of the number unless I remove the "+" from in front. This then messes up outlook and I can not sync. I think its a dialer issue, but not sure. Everything works (voice calls, data, gps) but I can not dial from the contacts that sync. Did I mess something up, or do I need a different dialer, or something else?
I started Friday night and I am still working on it (Monday)...
Verizon XV6800
Olipro 2.40
3.42.30
3.2.0 (customized in the kitchen)
Try this,
HKLM/Software/OEM/PhoneSetting/PlusCodeDialing
PlusCodeEnable change to 1
connection issue
I am getting a connection error even after disabling my usb in active sync.
It gets to 8% i get a connection fails error, and my phone reboots?
3.39 radio
3.2.1 dcd
I have an issue after following your tutorial.
I followed it to the T.
However, after running the *228 command, it shows the yellow text that it is programming. After about 60 seconds it shows "programming unsuccessful".
If I try to call it again, every consecutive try (without doing a reboot) does not show the programming text. However, if I reboot the device, it does show programming but fails again.
I have also attempted to reinstall the Verizon CAB and it does not affect my issue.
Any suggestions?

Interesting problem. Just for the sake of ruling it out, have you tried another USB cable/port?
If you have no luck with that, you might be able to flash using a MicroSD card. I had no luck using mine (4GB PQI MicroSDHC card), as it kept giving me some error trying to flash with it.
Some info on the MicroSD method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=378506
Hope that helps some. If not, let me know.

Apparently the new firmware likes to break at 8% doing update over USB and will tell you that it's incompatible or whatever. The only way to flash the radio in this case is by using the MicroSD method. Make sure you use a non-MicroSDHC card, format it properly, and copy the image onto the device as TITAIMG.NBH

Thank you for the suggestion. However, I had already decided to revert to the stock ROM until I feel confident I can resolve the issue. I took a look at the stock ROM registry, and interestingly the value is 0. I will make note of the other keys and look at them next time I try the new ROM.
Thanks again, it's a great feeling to get a response that may help.
very nice. clean and simple.

QPST .. no phone found

Ok, I installed WMDrivers and QPST, and when I put the phone in ##diag, it comes up on COM18. I go into QPST, add port (com18/Unknown, not DIAG label), and the port adds fine, but doesn't see the phone. I have searched around and can't find an answer.. any ideas?
Using the right one???

I was having the same problems. be sure that you are using the WMdrivers and the QPST for the titan. I tried using the one for the 6700 and it would not read the phone. PM if you cannot locate it. I think I have it saved somewhere???

The problem is in ROM version.
With DCD 3.2.5 QPST works, with 3.3.4 it does not.
I don't know if 3.2.6 is OK.
wanted to fix cellsouth banner w/3.2.6.. wouldn't stay that way would it from .5 to .6??
Once you fix the carrier banner, reflashing the rom should not mess it up again, it's caused by when you flash your radio the first time. Once QPST and EPST has been fixed, any future updates to radio or rom tho should not bother it.
I actually could never get QPST to work with any DCD 3.2.x rom, I always flash back to 3.1.2 make the change, and then flash back forward to his latest.
BTC
FIXED.
Ok, I tried the specific TITAN WM drivers, and still did not see the phone in QPST. So I did an SPB Backup, hit a stock 3.1.2, read fine, made changes, put back the same kitchen'ed rom I had to 3.2.6, and restored, and couldn't be happier.. unless of course USCC went 3G in my area so I had some bandwidth!
Thanks for your inputs!
MetalHd
So you are wil Cellular South? What are you running on your 6800? I want to upgrade mine but have been sceptical that it may not work on our network.
If possible I would like to know what steps you took; did you have to upgrade your radio prior to unlocking and upgrading?
Thanks

Nope, I am US Cellular on the coast of Maine. PPC 6800 with a dcd 3.2.6 kitchened rom. 25 megs free at fresh boot with one oxios. 16 gig microsdhc. Just had to change the CellSouth banner that is generated from the radio upgrade back to US Cellular. Seems odd to see US Cellular though, cuz I looked at CellSouth for 6 months before I fixed it.

What is the version of your QPST
hello i have a htc touch pro of us cellular
and i ont know how to enable tha funtion ##3424# please help
thanks
Tried and Tried and Searched and Searched, and finally ive gotten to the point of giving up, figured i would take a week or so break and try this again. I have tried everything to get qpst working, i have the 6800 Titan (Qwest) Fully flashed to cricket, Im having issues with the Cricket Internet working on the phone, it keeps saying its not on my plan but i know it is. shows up on my bill and im paying for it.. Figured i could call and have them refresh the phone ( assuming the same thing that *228 does ), but the SPC isnt back to 000000 or 333333, its still the original one from Qwest (which i do have ), but somehow i need to get back to 6 0's so i can have cricket update the phone. pix mail works though, and i figure that uses the data connection so web should work as well correct?
Thanks in advance
what are you doing to try qpst? Are you putting the phone in dmrouter?
i am trying to get the SPC number, its not 000000 or 333333 so i cant get in and change the settings over to cricket. its driving me nuts, got a step by step tutorial on it? im about to lose my mind with this thing. the 6800 was no problem, but this one for some unknown reason i cant seem to get. this ones a qwest 6700

Problems changing my number

I have been having problems changing my number on my phone. I am using DCD 3.3.4 and radio 3.42.50. I can not access the page where i can change my number on the phone. I have the number changed on the bell network. When ever i put the code in, ##564848#, the phone starts dialing. If i do ##564848 then it tried to load EPST and closes. I talked to bell IT and they gave me a link to get the factory bell settings rom.

I am using the new boot loader 2.47no2chem i believe. If i try to load the rom, will i run into problems? Does anyone know of a better way to change my number? Thanks for any help in advance.

I was just talking about something similar over at geeks.
#codes do not work with some of the dialers.
Do not know if it will work, but find a dialer cab to install and retry. Worth a shot anyway.
I know this one has worked for me. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=429179
Thanks for the link, ill try it out. They say to uninstall the previous cab how do you do that?
I also been reading around that i need to install a cdma dialer cab, and this might be the problem why i cant get into the EPST page. If anyone has any more ideas let me know.
I installed another dialer cab with no luck. I installed the cab from the link mattsm posted above with no luck. It tries to load the page and then closes. I was thinking, I installed a DCD 3.3.4 rom but was that rom intended for GSM phones or cdma? I think the settings page was removed from the rom. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. I want to install the rom from bell to get factory settings but i have a new boot loader, so will this be a problem? Thanks in advance
Cheers
The only other thing I think you could try is qpst.
It lets you edit the epst settings from your pc.
you will need the qpst program, htc drivers
google the qpst and I will post some drivers you need in this post with an edit.
after you get the drivers intalled and qpst on your pc, You will enter ##3424# on you phone and hook up your usb to phone and it will install the drivers. Let me find the link to qpst help and I will post it as well. I am sorry right now I am busy but will post these before I leave.
You can try my Diagnostic Shortcut CAB located in my HTC unlock directory, you dont even have to soft reset the shortcuts show up in programs/diagnostic folder.
There is also HTC windows drivers, Active sync 4.5, QPST 2.7 build 3.01 works perfect with TITAN, and many other tools. Plus instructions.

Start from ground up EPST change your number, MIN, anything you have to change to switch phone numbers. Then double check using PST and correct any settings. Let me know if you still have problems accessing PST with codes or shortcut. I will make you a Bell CAB that will fix your programming codes.
Enjoy!
Thanks alot for the help. I have to head to class right now but i will be back later today and try it out. When you say drivers, which drivers are you referring too? the drivers for my phone on vista? If you post some steps, i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks again.

You can try my Diagnostic Shortcut CAB located in my HTC unlock directory, you dont even have to soft reset the shortcuts show up in programs/diagnostic folder.

thanks, He has the link. Got to go will check back later. Good Luck.
Yes the HTC windows drivers get installed on your PC. Then QPST, then put the phone in Diag Mode, then plug it in with active sync usb connections disabled, then access Service Programming using QPST. The instructions (SPCunlockinstructions.txt) are on my share site, they will at least get you into Service Programming the rest is up to you.
Another thing I found is to disable driver signing in Vista press F8 while booting up and disable driver signing. Also if you do a search on XDA for HTC vista drivers you will find a thread with some drivers and information you can try.
Thanks alot RyanMogul6800. I have downloaded most of the files that you have mentioned. I can't try them out until monday, but ill give them a shot for sure. Thanks again. The Bell cab you mentioned, is that the problem? I can't seem to understand why in the dialer it tries to load the page and then closes as if it was missing. Let me know what you think.
Cheers,
Andrew
