Plugged my VZW Touch pro usb cable into my car stereo's usb port, and it charges the phone! Also when you put the usb to pc connection to Disk Drive, it plays the music on the SD card through the stereo. How kool is that.
Your phone can charge on any powered USB port, and functions as bulk storage with any device that can host it.
yup.......

Hi together,
ive asked me if it is possible to use an adapter for 1x micro usb (plug) -> 2x micro usb (jack).
Could the phone handle 2 USB devices at the same time?
Maybe then it is possible to use the HDMI output and the USB host parallel?
For example to use an TV as screen and an HDD as the source for a movie.
This would be nice.
Thanks in advance.

When the connector is used for HDMI I doubt it can be used as USB at the same time, I'n sorry.
Maybe in a few months cyanogenmod provides a hack, if there will be an dual adapter soon.
We will see. Thank you.

The hardware needs to allow this if it'd become possible. You need a really smart USB dongle that knows how to split the HDMI output from the USB output.
Sounds a little too difficult to ever happen.
Hmm thats right. I think i still dream xD
But thank you.

it is not possible. because as stated on this forum many times before, the type of usb connection is determined by the resistor between pin 4 and 5 of the micro usb connector. the strength can tell the phone, that there is either a charger, a pc connection, car kit, jig, usb otg or mhl connection present.
and i believe, this is an important thing to keep in mind for so many things:
for instance, why the original car kit triggers car mode and generic car charging cables don't or why not just any micro usb male to usb a female will work as a otg cable or why flashing should be done with the original usb cable...
so if you were to buy or build a micro usb hub, since it has no resistor in the very plug that connects to the phone, it cannot be used for anything but charging and quite frankly, i wouldn't connect more than one charger to the phone.
however, if you want to use your phone for presentations or watching movies and still be able to use it, get a bluetooth keyboard and mouse or a bluetooth presenter or do it the other way around and use a usb input device and transfer your media using allshare. everything else is physically impossible, so neither CM nor XDA can do anything about it. the only device that can do what you want is the new motorola. it has a separate micro usb and micro hdmi port and a docking station, so you can use it as a full notebook.
Thats obvious. Thank you.

When running on Android, is it possible to connect a
SD card reader via Touchpad's USB port?
(16GB or 32GB SDHC card containing music and video files)
THanks!
Unfortunately, couldn't get it to work myself.
I tried the same setup I use on my SGII, OTG usb cable + USB key.
It might work with a power source. The USB otg cable alone doesn't work. If you get a USB splitter cable, and plug the extra end into a power source it should work. But ... if you have a power source like a computer you can just plug the TouchPad and card reader both into the computer, and transfer the files that way.
The only way to make it work on the go would be with a battery powered USB power supply and have both the otg cable and the splitter ... not very convenient.
In a pinch I have used the otg cable on my phone, then transferred the file over Bluetooth to the TouchPad while in Android. Again, not very convenient, but it worked.

this is setup that is cleanest that the other forum uses..
http://www.amazon.com/Solar-Powered-Battery-Charger-Adapter/dp/B006DVMW92
plus the otg cable..
no messy cable tangles..
besides solar charging, the TP's charger will charge hub
then mount it..
unmount when done..
As far as I know connecting a card reader needs the USB host mode and this is not available in Android 2 (http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/usb/host.html). Also the hardware has to be capable of that (maybe TP is). We have to wait until ICS is available on the touchpad.
I'd like to know if there can be more done w/ the TouchPad... i.e. more USB host support for other things (external hdd, controller etc)
Hi,
Having just tried female to female usb connected to the oem usb cable by samsung, was hoping it will be able to connect and detect a flash or external drive but it did not.
So the question is this, since a usb is universal, would it be because of the oem cable or missing support from the kernel?
Even if power is supplied through, nothing was detected but power and it started to charge.

Good to see that, as it should be handled by the o/s...
USB Host mode?
Seen a youtube video introduced a special usb dongle as an accessory which turns the microusb port into usb host mode and it will allow keyboard and various other devices to be connected.
Seems like it is not a usb host port on its own.
You need a USB cable that supports OTG. You can get one for a few bucks from Amazon. The kernel already supports attaching all kinds of USB devices, so just make sure you have the right cable.
I have a freeview TV adapter plugged into my note 3. Problem is I can't charge it so I have to stop watching TV and wait until its charged. Can I get anything like a micro USB hub. I've seen a few but they are only regular USB ports and not USB micro which I need for my devices. Thanks in advance.
I have MHL to HDMI adapter which hooks up to TV and to a phone charger (other side goes to phone) so it is possible, but I can't say if usb hub would work, since I have not test it.
You can connect a regular USB hub to your micro usb to usb OTG adapter. I tried connecting both a mouse and a keyboard to the hub and it works fine
USB hub won't allow you to charge the device while they are connected. you can either use MHL to HDMI cable as Pete4k advice and enjoy MHL 2.0 while charging or buy one of those USB OTG adapter reader but where you can connect several peripherals and charge at the same time.
I had a nexus 7 mounted in my car and it would mount devices and charge at the same time (rear view camera, sd card, dac sound card).
I have this hub:
https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-Industrial-SuperSpeed-Protection-ST4300USBMS/dp/B00H5A6C0A/
My table is plugged into the host port with this cable:

Can I just use USB C adapters, or would I need a new hub to charge and mount at the same time? I'd like to find one designed to handle car voltage like the one I had. Anyone try anything like this yet?
