best 6/6.1/6.5 rom for 3g/hsdpa connection? - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo ROM Development

hi
for daily use i have an iphone 3g..
im carrying my athena for creating a internet enabled wireless network while im not at home..by using wifirouter..
the problem is even with hsdpa option my 3g data speeds are topped or maxed at 1.2 - 1.8 mb/sec.. while if i try with the iphone i get upto 7.2 mb/sec
which rom is the best for 3g/gprs data speeds ????
thanks...............

have you try radio 1.58? not sure how it fair in your setup.

I have radio 1.58 (the fastest by far for high-speed data), and ROM AP4, and I usually top out at 1.2 mb/sec. Never been close to 1.8. Might be a limitation of the chipset?

Hsdpa 3.6 MB and Hermes

Orange in Poland introduce new max speed in hsdpa 3.6 MB. At present only one laptop card serve this speed offcially /Novatel Merlin XU870 ExpressCard/. Is there any way to get that high speed on Hermes? I usualy use him like modem. I tested two radio rom 1.2xx and 1.38.00.10 and stable max speed in flashget is 1.9 MB.
I think the max HSDPA speed for the Hermes is 1.5MB (maybe 1.8MB), limited by the phones chipset. There are more discussions on this here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298618&highlight=HSDPA+speed

Theoretical maximum speed for the hermes is 1.8mbps
i have only managed to get 1.35mpbs maximum...
for me in Slovakia (Bratislava) maximum was only 900kb/s... but this technology is new in our country, and it is available only in our capital city. but it is the fastest mobile connection I ever had.
PS: is in here somebody from Slovakia/Bratislava who have better results as I have?
I second. It is 1.8mbps.
However due to data packets you will never get 1.8mbps worth of actual user data. That is just a fact.
Hermes ihas chip Qualacom 6275 with maximum transfer rate for HSDPA is 1,8 Mb/s( theoretical).
Newest chip from Qualacom 6280 has possibility to transfer up to 7,2Mb/s - but Hermes & Athena has still Q6275.

Rev A or not Rev A

VZW xv6800
Loader: 2.40
Radio: 3.39.10
ROM: DCD 3.1.2
I see lots of discussion concerning GPS and Bluetooth (BTW the 3.39.10 GPS aq. speed is awesome) but not so much about Data Connection. Maybe I’m just not looking in the right place or using the right search terms.
Not sure if I’m putting this in the right forum, but this seems to be upgrade related, and quite honestly, the caliber of posts here seems a bit higher than in the general Titan forum.
Since upgrade my Data Conn speed is a whopping 150Kb/sec. Ugh. I have tried it tethered, Bluetooth, PDANet, PAN, indoors and out. Even tested IE Mobile to http://text.dslreports.com/mspeed . Never got much above 150Kb/sec. I typically got ~600Kb/sec before I upgraded my radio.
Maybe I’m having a bad air week and pushing a low DRC, I’ll continue to test, but my question is this;
For the purposes of troubleshooting/testing, how can I tell if I’m getting an EVDO Rev A connection (I know it is available here)? Is there a way to turn off Rev A and force a 1X connection or vice-versa?
Anyone else having problems with Data Conn. Speed? I use this fairly frequently and while I am just euphoric over the GPS, I may run into a serious dilemma when professional stress demands a faster connection.
You have rev A. As for the data speeds hmm- is you phone possibly set to 1X only? To check go the the phone settings menu and under the 2nd tab it says Mode of Operation, click that
Was set to hybrid.
I tried with EVDO only. 177Kb/sec
1X gave 121Kb/sec.
Have set it back to Hybrid, icon shows 'Ev', but still not sure if it is Rev A.
Signal is strong, would hate to have to roll back to stock just to test if the problem is with the Radio. What speeds are others getting with Radio 3.39.10?
Edit- What I am thinking is that I am getting a Rev A signal and maybe it is more sensitive to SNR and dropping my rate. Thus I want to turn off Rev A to test. Then again, maybe I just don't know what I am talking about.
check your EPST settings. if RevA is ENABLED, change it to DISABLED. its a misnomer.
No such entry in EPST.
Also,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=394977&page=2
Been there, done that.
Thanks for trying.
Tried both with same speeds
Just tried both settings and the speed tests had the same results.
I'm using Radio 3.39.10 and Rom3.39.10(Sprint), have the option to enable/disable Rev-A but my speed is still 419.40 kbps. no matter which settings I choose.
what location are you in?
are u sure its one of the locations that has reva?
what radio did you have before you updated to 3.39? did you let customizations run?
I upgraded for the first time about a week ago. I initially went to Radio 3.37 and ROM DCD 3.1.2 and the VZW CAB using the SD card method. Customizations ran after the DCD ROM flash. Everything works seemingly well, other than the slow Data Connection. Yesterday I flashed to the 3.39 Radio. GPS Acquisition went from 60+ sec to < 10 sec. No change on the Data Conn.
With Stock Radio I typically received at 600Kb. Now it is 150-170Kb.
I’m in the SFO bay area, but beginning to think that Rev A is a red herring. Don’t really know much about how Rev A works, but after reading a great deal about it, connecting to a Rev A equipped station should with or without a Rev A equipped mobile should not affect the connection speed adversely. One either has a strong and clear enough signal for the higher speeds or one does not. I am connecting via EVDO, just getting really slow speed for no apparent reason.
Tigueraje reports speeds of 419.40kbps with Ev or 1x. Wish I could get even that. BTW, 1x should not go that high, so was probably connecting to Ev both times. If you truly want to check your 1x speed, try a soft reset, or at least stop and start the data conn after changing.

Thanks, I'll look into that. Hope this is safe to do on a VZW phone. My PRI Version is 1.35_002 and my GPS is rockin', but I will proceed carefully.

i cant say that its safe on vzw. that post on ppcgeeks was a telus user...
sorry if i was misleading in my last post, i thought the OP was telus.
I haven’t done anything yet. After a rush to upgrade the Titan when I first got it, and many problems afterward, I have been proceeding very cautiously. I’m not confident that the PRI update will address my issue.
I just talked to a co-worker on VZW with a Treo 700wx. He is also having problems with Data Conn speed in my area. So, I think this is just coincidental to my upgrade. I will keep tabs on it, and if I can get down to Campbell this week (a verified strong Rev A area) I will test there.
Still curious about what speeds others are seeing with the 3.39 Radio. Anyone confirm Rev A (anything over 1024Kb/sec)? On VZW?
Alltel user here, just flashed to Radio 3.39 and have gotten two different download speeds of 1045.
Thanks for the info.
Just tested in San Jose, Ca (about 15 miles from Home) and got 927Kbps. Problem must be with the tower near home and coincidental to my upgrade.
927 0.204s (1024k) myvzw.com Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 7.11) 320x320; VZW; UTStar-XV6800; Window Mobile 6.1 Professional;
To clarify REV-0 VS REV-A
The download speeds you see when looking at EVDO will not be majorly different, it is the upload speeds that REV-A is most meant to address. REV-0 theoritical download speed is 2.4 mbps, and upload is 153.6kbps and this is shared bandwidth. REV-A is 3.5 down and 1.8mbps up. A DOM module will take from 1 to 4 T1s in and at the moment most VZW sites are running only 1 and some are running 2, so with a max BW of 1.54 mbps on a T1, you will not ever see the max download speeds of REV-A until 3 T1s or more are at the site, and like I said it is the upload that will be most different.

HSPDA NETWORK NOT WORKING, ONLY GETTING 3G (getting hspda+ on vibrant)

I apologize for this thread as it might not be in the correct area, but i figured most people log into the dev section so this might get answered quicker...
I have 2 questions so lets start with the first:
1) For some reason I'm not getting HSPDA network working on my phone. the best speed I've posted is about 3.2Mbs, which is not HSPDA speeds, or at least not as fast as it should be. It also says that i'm on 3G as opposed to H...is there a reason for this. Keep in mind I live in LA and they have one of the strongest networks for HSPDA (at least according to the rep I talked to).
2) Is it possible for us to get HSPDA+ speeds with a radio update. I don't know too much about the radio but it would seem to me like that is what it would take to get the HSPDA+ working as I'm assuming that it is the radio that determins your speed and not the hardware...though I could be wrong.
Just a thought, and a response would be awesome.
Thanks in advance guys and gals!
I would answer if this were posted in the correct forum.

where would you like me to post this then...not sure where to post...general q&a?
EDIT: Now posted in gernal Q&A....
settings > about phone > status
what does it say the mobile network type is? the status bar will still display '3G' if you're on HSDPA unless you're on froyo or a custom rom.
If you go to menu settings, about phone, status, it will tell you if you are connected to hsdpa... But it won't show up in the status bar...
The more ppl on the network the slower the speeds will be... I can connect to an hspa tower about 30 mins away but I don't get the speeds... my phone is actually slower now with the new tower...

it says HSDPA but it doesn't feel like that, i figgured it would just fly, but it's not as fast as I thought it should be. Also the speed test is only giving me like 3.2Mbs as opposed to my friend with with the behold II who is getting like 5...
Also, anyone got any info on the second question by chance?
i haven't done enough research on the vibrant's HSPA+ capabilities to answer

1)That is HSDPA. Normal 3G is UMTS 384kbps, HSDPA 3.5G Theoretical Maximum of 7.2 (also available in 3.5, 7.2, 14.4, etc) getting down 3.2mbps is considered very quick, connection really tops out at a max of ~5mbps, but would require you to be near a tower with a fast backhaul, and not many other people on the network at the same time. Also keep in mind speedtests are not completely accurate as they have cached data they are sending to you.
2) There is no such thing as HSDPA+, there is HSDPA in a bunch of flavors, and HSPA+. and no, our radio does not support HSPA+ 20mbps. but in field tests it was only marginally faster than HSDPA 7.2mbps anyway. the radio is a piece of hardware, there is firmware they can tweak to try and get more potential out of it, but its just more of the potential of the hardware, not extra speed.

thanks for the info, glad to know that I am at normal speeds.
Also thanks for answering on if we were able to get HSPA+ on our phones!
I believe the vibrant can get speeds up to 7.2 down. Personally, I get ~5-6mbps at my house (Seattle, WA) and the most I've hit is ~6.5.
If you flashed the Update, your not going to get a Speed increase.
After Testing & Testing me & barak both don't get over 3.5MB & with the Old Modem.bin we both get over 6MB downloads..
Another thing we noticed with the new Modem.bin is it never switches to the H network, just stays on 3G / E..
With the old Modem.bin H / 3G /E Connects

3.5 mbps is on the H network. the normal 3g network would be 0.3mbps....
However I'm not disputing that the H network could have been crippled/slower after a modem update. You are still on HDSPA, just something has been messed up about it and its only half as fast as normal for you.
I'm on hsdpa and I'm only getting .3mbps

My phone shows that I'm on UMTS and I'm getting 5mbps dl speeds. Occasionally I'll be on HSDPA but the speeds stay about the same.
UMTS is 3G, HSDPA is an improvement to the UMTS protocol.
So yes, all HSDPA/HSPA is UMTS, not all UMTS is of the HSDPA/HSPA.
UMTS (vanilla) 384 kbps
UMTS (HSDPA 1.8/3.5/7.2/14.4) 1.8/3.5/7.2/14.4mbps
UMTS (HSUPA) up to 5.76mbps Enhanced uplink portions of the data connection
UMTS (HSPA+) up to 56 Mbit/s on the downlink and 22 Mbit/s on the uplink

Theoretical Maximums, you can get UP TO that number, anywhere between 0 and that number is what reality is.

Sounds like an obvious problem, but not sure what that could be. Also, 3.5MB is not the same as 3.5Mb. 3.5MB/s = 28megabits. 3.5Mb/s = .43MB/s.

While I am mostly a fan of your answer (it is pretty much spot on), I do have to make you aware of the acronyms and their meanings.
HSDPA = High Speed Downlink Packet Access
HSUPA = High Speed Uplink Packet Access
HSPA = High Speed Packet Access (this implies that the network uses BOTH HSUPA and HSDPA)
HSDPA+, HSPA+ = Evolved HS(D)PA
Just FYI.

[Q] htc thunderbolt 4g speeds

Hi,
I'm running the latest version of liquid smooth on my thunderbolt and I've notice in 4g areas data speeds are really slow. I downloaded speed test and I've gotten no more than 3mbps in full coverage areas. Does anyone know why this might be happening?
which radio are you using? most people say they have the best luck with the old MR2 radio or the newest .906 radio. depending on which radio you use can affect speeds.
i personally use the .906. the 'speed test' app isn't the most accurate way to test your speed though.. i usually base it off of whatever i'm actually downloading. normally if i'm doing an HTTP based download it averages around 100Kb/s(0.8M bps) - 500Kb/s(4Mbps).... whereas if i do wired tethering to my PC it averages 700Kb/s(5.6Mbps)

HSDPA slow upload speed

Hey,
I'm running CM7 on a lg p509, and everything is perfect, just a small question. My upload rate when connected by hsdpa seems to be limited to 0.13MB/s, while download is fine , always above 1MB. Is there something with the radio, different phone version (p509 instead of p500)? I'm sure its something to do with my phone since I just tried my friends on the same network and his upload was higher. I don't think I ever flashed a new band, so its still on original radio. Just new rom, and on mobilicity in canada.
thanks for any help

HSDPA is for high speed downloading while for high speed uploading,u need HSUPA which our phone doesnt have. This is the reason why uploading speed is less.
Our phone does'nt support
HSUPA-high speed uplink packet access
(responsible for high speed data upload)
Our phone only support
HSDPA - high speed downlink access
