EDGE (Enhanced Data rates for Global Evolution)!

Hi Tech-Guru's,
I'm having O2 XDAII ROM 1.60.00WWE, Radio 1.08.00. Can I use EDGE (Enhanced Data rates for Global Evolution) with this device? If not, any ROM updates?
Thanks.
M.Muhelen
if you mean edge as in what some people also call 2.5G then no like 3g (UTMS) it would require new hardware inside the xda2
wait for xda3 if you want support for new cellphone systems
EGDE is "2.75G" as I know... GPRS is "2.5G".....
The download speed of EGDE is almost as fast as 3G Network, but based on GSM technoology.
XDA2 doesn't support EGDE now.. and seems not planned to support in future.....

About as correct an explanation as it gets, spot on mate, yes. EDGE, in effect, would be 2.75G...
GPRS is 2.5G(eneration)
Edge is Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution, a kind of development of standard GPRS capable of running almost as fast as current 3G.
But for it to work, the phone must support it hardware wise, and the network too must support it.

does it possible to upgrade HSDPA to 3,6??

well, does it possible to upgrade tytn hsdpa to 3.6?
thx
No, the Hermes is hard limited by hardware to HSDPA 1.8 Mb/s. The Kaiser (Hermes replacement) due out later this year will support HSDPA 3.6 Mb/s.

3g on a different frequency?

Apologize if this is a stupid question ...
But it it possible to get niki to do 3g on a freq other than 2100 ?
that would require a major hardware change, so its unlikely.
thank you. that helps.
On 2-14-08, HTC started selling the HTC Touch Dual 850 in Australia. The big question is whether it has the same chips inside as the Touch Dual. There has been some talk that the regular Touch Dual has a chip that works on the 850 frequency, so I'd say there is a good chance the two devices are the same with differnt ROMs.
We really need someone to upload the ROM from a Touch Dual 850.
I believe that there were two differing Qualcomm 7200 chipsets produced:
One with support for 850/900/1800/1900 MHz (the US version, in which the 850 & 1900 MHz band is used for UMTS). And one which supports 900/1800/1900/2100 MHz (for Europe) In which the 2100 MHz band is used for HSDPA.
You could be right though, it may be that the only differences are in software.
The device can't support all five frequencies(at least it shouldn't be able to ), but it may be possible to pick and choose by flashing radio roms.
Only time will tell...
I have read the lg ks20 manuel ... if you need more frequency, you need hardware parts! on of this parts are a RF switcher. the radio read out the nv ram too.
I'd say that just about does it. I will be wanting an 850 model soon.
in the moment ... i think ... no 850mhz nike!!!
hoping a radio update can do it for the niki since i just bought one in the us and just learnt about this issue.
do you think the australia rom would fix it or the radio, i do know the australia rom is available for download but isn't the radio more important for this issue?

Has anyone found out any new info about this? I too have issues with the Niki100 not covering all the bands I need for coverage in my area and have no 3G. With the US Touch Dual coming out soon, or with the Australia release, I was hoping someone had a radio flash that could provie if upgrading the radio fimrware worked.
you havent understand what i have tell!!!
niki havent the right RV Switch!!! You cant change anything to handle G3 network on 850MHz or 1900MHz!!!
the US Touch Dual or AUS Touch Dual isnt a HTC Niki ... it is a HTC NEON!!!
Both can use the same OS and Radio Roms! The Radio Rom is every time the same!
@NetrunnerAT
just to be fare:
there are 2 models of HTC Touch Dual available here in Australia:
HTC Touch Dual UMTS 2100MHz
HTC Touch Dual UMTS 850MHz (Telstra NextG frequencies)
ok again ... Touch Dual 850MHz is a HTC NEON!!!! Both Device have the same Case and a simulare Chipset, but different RV Chips!!!
Don't bug me!

change band with radio?

Hi, i am newbie yet, but by what i read, RADIO is responsible by the communication, with GPRS, with 3g too for exemple.
My HTC TPT7272 works on dual-band trough the HSPA/WCDMA, only on 900 and 2100 MHz...
But here on my region, my provider provides the access for 3G only on 850/1900 MHz, so, i have to use EDGE to connect to the internet, but my HTC support 3G...
Does anybody know, if I can upgrade my radio, or if is possible to change the work band for 3G by the radio for provide my access to the 3G?
Grateful
Henrique
not available
I hope that would be the case, but I have yet to see it work for the many months on this forum. There are strong evidence that this is a hardware limitation on the Raphael. Unless you have a FUZE (AT&T version of Raphael), you are out of luck for 850/1900 HSUPA until someone comes forth with the software for us to try.
but so, u see some possibility?
if anybody knows, please contact me, i would love to use my HSUPA, crap of provider, could provide full signal..
if some version of raphael works on this band, could i install his radio? i really wants to navigate on 3G signal...
LOOK IT:
Fuze/AT&T(HTC RAPHAEL 101)
Cellular;Phone
Cellular-Networks: GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS850, UMTS1900, UMTS2100
Cellular+Data+Links: CSD, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA
FUZE WORKS ON IT, on 850, anybody know if I install his radio will work??
The official specs on HTC's website doesn't inlude 850/1900 as part of the HSPA (3G) connection, only for EDGE.
I have tried many of the radios here and none gives me 3G connection for my carrier, which is on 850 band for HSDPA.
I have tried 1.02.25.19
and then 1.02.25.28
and then 1.02.25.32
and then 1.08.25.20M1
and now 1.11.25.01
but I haven't tried any radios for the other phones since my TP is not security/CID unlock. You can try all the raphael radios, then consider getting CID unlock to try the other radios if you wish.
I have been on this forum for a few months and yet to read anyone successful in getting a TP working on 850. If you do succeed, please share this knowledge for I am sure there are still ppl out there wanting the same thing as you do as well. Myself being one of them.
I wish you success in this endeavor.
man, i am iniciant, i took my HTC TP in around 1 mounth, and one point that almost conviced me not to buy this pda was the 3g band.. i wait this more than you, lets wait if anyvody with much experience can post one help for us
one hug

they haven't updated recently, which means there is no more 'news' on it.
you can try searching for 3G in the elite RC3 thread up in the sticky section.
they still don't have a solution either.
you can keep waiting.

Telus Hero adds HSPA 21 mbps support

Can somebody find out if this version has different hardware or is this a same european hero with different rom ?
That PDF says nothing about 21mbps support, just 7.2?!?!?!?!
