I found an interesting battery replacement from Paylessgadget.com
http://www.paylessgadget.com/htc-y-4.html
It looks like a standard size battery, but it's 3600mAh!
It means 33.3% longer battery life than the original one. Very tempting.
One thing I'm worried about is I couldn't see any review before.
And this Paylessgadget.com is the only site (as far as I know) which is selling this battery.
Anybody here had experience with this battery?

I sent an email to the seller asking for the actual specs.
The battery does not look to have an official brand and does not look like an HTC OEM battery, also it is listed under "BlackBerry" accessories. So this online retailer may have some specs wrong online.
Let's see what they say!
Check this out.
YOOBAO BATTERY for HTC X9500 X-9500 SHIFT ACCU 3600mAH
Both seem to be the same battery.
I ordered one on Monday and should have it this weekend. As soon as I get it I will post some comments.
BTW, running windows 7 7100 RC on the Shift is a beauty. Definitely a fantastic device.
Wow, great price! Please let us know how it works out.

When I posted this, the ebay seller was selling the product for $59.95, the seller has raised to the price to $69.95. I guess a lot of people have been purchasing from the seller to raise the price within 3-4 days.

Good to hear the seller went back to the original price. I own a business myself and I believe it's bad practice for a business to raise prices on the fly. $59.95 is a pretty sweet deal. I don't know if I should get 2 of these batteries over one mugen power 6600 battery. What are the pros and cons?

I'm waiting acarriles' review/comment.
Once he gets it, we can get more information.
I'm also thinking $59.95 is the pretty sweet price point.
Bad, bad, bad news...
I should have remembered my electricity 101: E=V x A Energy (watts) equals volts x amps.
The original battery is 2700 mAh, but 7.4 V, hence capable of producing 19.98 or roughly 20 Watts. On the othe hand, the Yoobao does have indeed 3600 mAh, but is only rated at 3.7 V !!!!! At first I thought it was a typo on their site, but the reality is that the Yoobao p.o.s. only produces 3.6x3.7 = 13.32 Watts, or only 66% of the original battery!!!!!!!
So the theory was clear, this battery was twice as expensive as the original one, and produced 1/3 less energy.
In any case, I did a full round of tests and the theory was right. In balanced powwer settings, I normally get 2 hours of light surfing use. With the Yoobao battery I hardly got 1 hour and 29 minutes. WHAT A WASTE AND WHAT A SCAM!
If I don't get a full refund on Moinday, I will do a full chargeback.
Buyer beware.
I thing I will now look into the Mugen...
hi acarriles, this doesn't make sense. How can a 3.7V battery drive a device that requires 7.4V, it wouldn't have worked in the first place??!! And the charging voltage (8.4V) and current coming from the Shift would kill the battery! Are you able to perform more extended test?
Expansys Shift battery 2700mAh @ 3.7V !
Dear all Shift owners , i have just spoken to Expansys , they confirmed that the Shift battery that they are selling is only 3.7V with 2700mAh and it is Oem manufacturer . This may mean that it may give your shift half of the battery life as compare to your original Htc battery ! So beware of the hours of capacity of these batteries as oppose to the mAh and Vdc of the mentioned specs . I think a safer investment ( costly it is ! ) would be either an original Htc battery , a 4400mAh Mugen battery or a 6600mAh mugen battery - all 3 rated at 7.4v , or big capacity extended battery for laptops . But just keep in mind and get to know more info of these cheaper oem batteries from china , unless lower price is your main concern . Thanks and regards - jimmunsw
I can't find the Mugen batteries on eBay. Where is the best source?

Did you return your product yet?
If not, and you are stuck with it, can we do a test?
Would you mind opening the battery casing and taking a few pictures for me?
I am working a modular external battery where you can replace old/dead cells rather than the whole battery. I'm also working on making it selectable voltage to power at 3.7V (for an X7500) and 7.4V (for an X9500), plus making it scalable to where you can make it 2200, 4400, 6600, 8800, 11000, 13200, and up MaH simply by sliding another pair of of x7500 batteries into a holder.
see my post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3854691&postcount=65
This would be an external battery with cable, but if your pictures show me different, maybe the cells from the X7500 battery can be moved into the shell of the Yahboo shell....just trying new things here...
Dear Bradaland ,
Respect , i respect you for your hdd upgrading and now external battery mod for your advantage and shift , i too have both the device - fantastic device it is man , i hope you can share more with pictures or video for this battery mod , i may invest in sealed lead acid battery type but i now wait for your result first , also pls either you or our experts - please finish up with the bluetooth , sd card and mic and speaker plugin - these items are essiential to complete our wm6 critical usages . What about SSD instead of Hdd ? Can this be done by you too ? Please let me know . I like to thank you and all other gurus for all your wonderful and hardwork and sleepless nights for doing all you can and sharing with all shift owners around the world , it is just too damn good , cheers - jimmunsw
Sorry Bradaland, I already sent the battery back. $100 was too much money to waste in a useless battery... I may also try building one using lithium polimer cells... I'll keep you all posted. BTW I did install an SSD last week and the performance is phenomenal, well worth the investment.
Dear acarriles ,
I am looking at sealed lead acid battery of 12v 12Ah or 12v 17Ah complete with similar charger to power my shift for at least 6 to 7 hours at one go . It is big and comprises a strings of connections but it is cheaper than mugen power , plus point is it can also power other devices , but mobility is somewhat compromised ( but you know power is there ). It is very good to hear your ssd is working smooth and fast , i may look into that upgrade later . Cheers to you and bradaland - jimmunsw

it is not true, I get yesterday battery from expansys and is exactly the same as original one-no matter what expansys say the batteries are the same (i have shift uk version),so if one battery cost now £21.99 and has 2700mAh, for me is better to buy 3 this batteries than one chunky Mugen battery 6600mAh which cost about 130-140£ , and still before power runs out I can go to hibernate mode and change battery for fully charge one.

Hey guys,
Last week I buy an 1500 mAH Battery (CS) for my Herald.
Included today I worked 5 days with my Herald (WLAN , Phone, SMS, Calender..) and I have 28% Energy
Good Performance....

Thanks Oliver

No, you won't lose data
And this is not due to the pda, this was a 'feature' from WM2003
WM5 and WM6 both have the data/settings stored on a rom chip which doesn't lose its data when you soft-reset.
Are these batteries reliable? Don't want to have them exploded in my pocket! Has anyone already ordered?
Do these larger batteries fit with the original battery cover?
HERE is a 2400 maH Battery.
But It's a larger Backcover...
Thanks for the tip ... ordered one of these to compensate for running BatteryStatus.
5 days !! thats crazy talk !!
i get 2 at most on mine.

That's the one I ordered, but I haven't received it yet. They don't tell you when they're out of stock on their site.
cool rob, let me know how it is when it arrives.
why is that guy getting 5 days of charge?
Bought one too
After reading the first very positive post about the 1500mAh battery, I've got one myself too. Unfortunately I am quite disappointed. The life seem to be the same or even worse than the original battery to me
Just GSM eats about 3-4%/8h but when I turn the device on I can see the percents going down anxiously fast even with the backlight on the first level
Got the 1500mAh battery this past Friday. So far, looks like I'm getting at least two days, maybe a little more between charges. Pretty much what I'd expect given the modest increase in amperage. Overall, I'm pleased given that it only cost about $30.
Hi there, I'm using the 1500 battery since monday and can't say that I see any difference to the standard 1150- no breakthrough and I don't see how to get over two days with normal use
what about the 2400 maH battery. Are there any benefits of getting that or not? (other than making your phone feel and appear heavier)
Where did you find a 2400 maH battery? And will any accessory for the P4350 work for my T-Mobile branded "Wing"?
Can anyone comfirm that the 2400 battery will come with the cover for the T-mobile Wing?
Please let me know... I will like to have one

There is a guy on ebay selling a 3000 mah battery for the wing with the blue cover. It looks large to me but if you need the extra power it may help. On ebay search for "wing battery". I think his seller id was nakedcellphone or something similar.

looking to buy a larger capacity battery for 8525.
been looking at this one:

any other suggestions?
is it a good idea? are there batteries with even LARGER capacities... i want to avoid some of the drainage issues that plague the 8525.
thanks...
I have that same battery. I can't tell that it lasts a whole lot longer. It seems to be a little thicker than the OEM battery and the cover doesn't fit completely flat. It's nice to have the spare battery anyway.
any suggestions on some cradles?
I can't help you on the cradles. I don't have one of those. I'm still using the basic sync cables.
Hi Cap battery
I bought this one. It lasts greater than twice as long as stock. It is THICKer so it increases the profile of your phone, if that's an issue.

Not sure to what you're referring to but you even can buy the original OEM standard battery for less than $5.00 on eBay!
I got my 2800mAh battery for 9.99 - I was the only one bidder and it it works great! Even battery status works properly in the device!
You sure can throw money away by walking in to a Cingular store and pay $40.00 + tax or you go the smarter way and order online! Your choice!

How can you prove its really oem and not another labeled battery, ebay is trash these days plus dont forget to add your $20-30 dollar shipping charge on there
Well, how can you be sure that your Cingular store has OEM products and did not get scammed by another chinese suplier?
Next question is: does OEM still exist? In this days manufacturer do not produce their own stuff anymore, they go around shopping and getting the stuff from the cheapiest supplier! OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) really needs a new definition!
All the stuff is made in chaina anyway, and believe me: lots of the 'OEM' even in stores is not even close 'being OEM'. As example Cingular leather cases have never heard of HTC ...
If you think you got scammed on eBay with non-oem products you can file a claim! However, 1500mAh and above batteries are not OEM because of HTC never 'released' them for the Tytn, so, we are discussing in this thread non-OEM products and not OEM
Hi
i'm also in the market for a new battery
wondering if anyone here has managed to change the battery and also have any sort of battery meter show a 'half percentage'. by that i mean like, 61%, 62%, 63% and so on, and not as 60% 70% as is the case with my phone!
my phone only shows the battery level in 10% increments and its driving me up the wall!
i was also looking at a 'same size' 1500mah battery from a mildly reputable seller, can anyone reccoment one?
with thanks,
duke.

Sorry, the 10-percentage rate is all you will get with the HERMES!
so is there absolutely no way to get 1% increments on the hermes?! is this dependent on the battery or is it a phone thing?
The next best thing is a min timer for the battery, it goes by your current usage and estimates the time remaining on your battery down to the last min. I will try to find the link to the program, but IIRC it was part of GPRS monitor.
Found the link http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/gprsmonitor/?en
The Kaiser battery version show the exact %...wonder if anyone can hack that one to work on hermes?
Don't know if other people on the forum are aware of this, but expansys is selling accessories & batteries at outlet prices! Check this out:
http://www.expansys.lu/laptop+umpc?bybrand=1#manufacturer=407
(Good thing that I got my ordered stuff already, cause I guess now I've divulgated the treasure they'll sell the whole stock pretty fast---!)
Enjoy!
Edit: direct link doesn't seem to work. Hit "By Brand" ("Par marque") link and then HTC to get the stuff for our beloved Shifts. Choose your country/language if you wish to order (up right corner)
Dear Vouche ,
If you have ordered the shift battery , please check and see if it is 2700mAh x 3.7volt and not 7.4volt . Our original shift battery is 7.4volt , i have checked with Expansys and they said their one is 3.7volt , it will only give half of duration for backup power to your shift compare to the original one . If you have found it to be otherwise , then it is indeed a good buy , maybe i will buy one myself too . Please share and let us know your findings , thanks and regards - jimmunsw
I can confirm that the two batteries I ordered on expansys are HTC original ones, model CLIO160, P/N: 35H00098-00M, 7.4VDC and 2700mAh (original sticker on the battery itself).
The sticker on the plastic bubble packaging states 3.7V 2700mAh though, but I guess they made a mistake there (It seems it's expansys internal stock information).
I'm charging one of the new batteries now and will test it's power, just in case, but I think you can order with no fear, they really are original ones.
Beside the two batteries I also ordered a stilus pack, a power supply (the cheap one, with no power cord, you can order one beside) and the USB/Lan extension kit. And the whole stuff for about $110.-, DHL included, seems to be a pretty good deal to me.
Enjoy your accessories!
Edit: My new battery fully charged lasts more than 2h30min while browsing the net on Vista (with opera)!
Dear Vouche ,
I am pleased to hear that you have 2.5 hours of continuous battery usage for your new shift battery from expansys . That means the girl - Agnes Chan of HK expansys gave me the wrong information regarding their battery , she said after checking from their technical guy , it is only 3.7v and will last half life of original 7.4v battery , oh no ! what are they doing in this particular case - i really dont know ! Since then , I have already bought a used battery from ebay and now waiting for it to arrive within this 10 days , lets see if it as good as yours 2.5 hours . After this i now have a 1 year old original battery , 1 quite new but used battery from ebay , i will still need 1 more either one extended battery pack or a ups with sealed lead acid battery ( 3.5 hours ) , or a modded 12v 23ah sla battery with stand alone charger . I really need to consider these 3 options . My target is at least 4 to 6 hours of continuous power supply without wall plugin . Thanks for your kind reply , cheers to all - jimmunsw

guess there is probably some copyright thing.. lolz.. but it really spoils the look of this phone..
If you suspect bad quality but still think it's worth a shot, you can use a digital Lithium battery charger to test whether or not the battery holds true to its specs. Since I'm a RC-model hobbyist, I already have one and I'm considering to try out this pack and see if it's for real.
Besides, because it's a cheap pack it doesn't mean it's a bad pack. Most cellphone OEM packs out there are rebrands of cheap mass-produces. In fact, cellphone batteries are the cheapest of the cheap since there's no need for a high discharge rating. Some of the best packs I've used in my hobby are from chinese brands, they cost about 12 USD each and are much bigger and have a higher discharge tolerance than the one linked in this thread.
Also, I can tell you for sure that there's no need to worry about exploding batteries, the worst that can happen is that the voltage drops and the battery cell swells slightly during charge. This is refered to as a "bad cell" and as long as you discard the battery at first sign of swelling there is no danger. Burning or melting can only occur if you charge or discharge the battery too quickly (I mean WAY faster than a cellphone could ever accomplish), explosions are very hard to achieve but possible if you for example plug the battery directly into the mains. I've tried this a few times on old packs, and mostly you only get smoke and sometimes you get a proper BANG.
Always such an ugly back cover ... unbelievable

Don't know if its the same battery i bought about half a year ago at ebay germany but i had no luck with it.
It was labeled as 1700 mah battery... now, 7 month later the battery has power for about 6 hours in standby (think about 500mah rest capacity)
Even in the first months the battery had not more power than the original htc 1150mah battery, the standby time was about the same.
I recommend not to buy it... better get one or two cheaper standard capacity batteries

well I just ordered mine off ebay, total came to a lil over 5 bucks.
Im guessing its not gonna pan out, but hopin it'll be at least as good as stock, and if its either of those, im getting my money back and keeping the battery. So tis a win for me no matter what.
I'll do review.

I am looking to buy a bigger battery, but I do not want the extended packs with thick back covers, so would prefer one that fits the original slot.
Any advice?

I ordered three batteries off ebay. Two of them were delivered and I'm waiting for the last one. One of the batteries is 1050 Mah and the other is 1150. They both hold equally with a little edge for the 1150 one. I'm really sceptic that in this thickness the battery could have a larger capacity than the stock one. This is a limitation of the Li-Ion technology. However, both of those batteries are much better than the swollen stock one after 1,5 years of use and do a great job. One more thing. The 1050 one was from HongKong and cost me about $3 and the bigger one was from UK and cost me about 7-8$, but was delivered much much faster. I think that you can't go wrong with a battery for 3-4$ but I recommend getting two batteries and an external charger - it's a must have for power users. That's it.
My ANDIDA 1600mAh battery begins to show its age (used to last at least 1-day of use, sometimes 2-day if use is light, now barely make it over a whole day) after 11-month of use. So I got a new 1700mAh (by SCUD) battery.
I shall report back how it performs after a few days of use...
ANDIDA 1600mAh
SCUD 1700mAh
P.S. They both weigh 24g.
A quick search finds that lithium ion's specific energy density ranges from 150 to 250 W·h/kg. If we take the highest specific energy density, so 24 / 1000 * 250 = 6W·h (WHr). Divide 6W·h by 3.7V * 1000 = 1621mAh.
So it's THEORETICALLY possible that these batteries can contain 1600-1700mAh of juice. Whether they can actually store as much is, well, another matter.
Of course, the above calculations haven't taken into consideration of the weight of the housing and the circuitry so the figures should be a bit off.
P.P.S. I remember the original battery (1150mAh) weighed a few grams more through.

that pictures even says 2500 mah, I wouldn't trust it.
so, after a few days of use, it isn't as good as the andida when it was new. the andida surely lasted me at least 1-day of uses (unless i'm using gps the whole time, which drains the battery in a few short hours). this one, it lasts a day of moderate use but not much left.
i'm hoping that with more uses, it will be more "warmed up" and last longer.
i'll report back if this happens.
Looks like the SCUD can last 1.5 day of use mostly.
