For a few months I have used the ipod cable with the original adapter that came with the phone. It worked ok but every so often (5 minutes or so) the registry setting would have to be set back to 1. This was not acceptable so I spent the extra money to buy the HTC tv-out cable.
With the HTC cable I dont have the issue of constantly changing the registry setting but even though it has a port to charge the phone while watching videos on the TV if I plug in the power the video on the TV goes out. This now happens with the adapter and ipod cable. So I dont think its related to the cable.
I am using the stock rom, with SPB mobile shell. I have also went back to make sure the registry entry is 0.
I am at a loss and I cant use the tv-out cable with it connected to the power now at all. I have scanned the forums and have not seen this issue mentioned.
Thanks in advance for any ideas.
I never tried it before, but just did and mine does the same thing with the video out cable. Ironically enough it works just fine with the ipod cable. I dont have to rest mine every 5 minutes, though. I set it once and it stays.
google EnableTVOutCab.CAB and install and works fine with the ipod cable just fine.
Thanks for the replies.
The TV Out cab is certianly easier then changing the registry entry each time. I have not had to reset it in the 10 minutes of testing so it might be the answer. However, as soon as I plug in the power cord (htc wall charger and the proprietary usb cable that came with the phone) the sound stops on the TV and is played on the phone. The Video stays on the TV I just loose sound output to the TV, so your watching the video on the TV but hearing the sound come from the phone.

Well my HDMI was working fine. But since few days it does not anymore. Funny thing is I haven't installed any new firmware since I started using HDMI (there was no new firmware for me in Poland)
Now HDMI looks dead. Prime do not see HDMI cable when plugged in.
Did anyone of you have similar situation?
from my experience so far with the HDMI on the Prime is that sometimes it doesn't detect that you plugged it in at times, so yo have to keep unplugging it and replugging until you see the notice at the bottom that an HDMI cable has been inserted.

I also have to be sure to pause Music or start my game before I plug it in, or it won't work quite right.
I've been chopping this up to the $5 20ft cable, but I guess not...
I've also had this problem. I've tried plugging it in multiple times and it no longer detects my HDMI cable. I've tried turning the prime on and off, switching tv's but no dice. I might try to get a new cable to see if that's the problem and go from there.
also try just half plugging it in. If it's plugged in too far it doesn't work.
I got my MHL-HDMI cable from Amazon for $10, it's the one listed in the ultimate accessories thread in this forum. It is not working well for me at all, lots of flickering and going blank.
As I understand it, MHL should mean that the phone should be in USB Data/charging mode so it can pass data to the MHL adapter, am I right in assuming this???
If so then the problem may be that the adapter isn't communicating properly with the phone and it's bouncing back and forward between AC Charge and USB mode which would cause all kinds of problems.
Can anyone with a solid, non-flickering MHL adapter check their battery status in 'About Phone>Status>Battery Status' and tell me if it reads AC or USB mode for charging when they are mirroring over MHL HDMI??
Mine reads 'AC charging' and plugging it in I get horrible screen and audio flicker and the screen resolution seems very low. I have the AC power plugged into the MHL adapter and I plug that into the TV first THEN plug it into the phone.
It's pretty much unusable like this, seems like a lot of people are having the same issue with many Samsung phones and tablets.
Anyone resolved this on their note????
Joel
Did a little more testing and noticed something that I think may be odd, wondering if others can confirm.
I checked my battery charge status while plugged into the MHL adaptor and watching the picture flicker on and off on my TV. It read that I was charging in "AC mode". If the phone is in AC mode then surely the data connection to the MHL adapter wouldn't be working and the phone may be pulling too much power away from the adapter for it to work right??
Just wondering if you figured this out. I got the mhl adapter yesterday but the screen flicker makes it unusable.
Figured out that the flicker only happens when wifi is on. When I switch it off its smooth.
Is this the same for you?

Working for ME
I have the ATT Version of the Phone ... and it didndt come with the MHL Adaptor
http://www.google.com/products/cata...=X&ei=zczLT8GLCIOG6QHJhpjtDw&ved=0CJABEPMCMAA
The one I am using is from my older Samsung Infuse - ATT phone also!
I had that working BEFORE with Infuse , and works just as nicely with NOTE
I have the cheapest HDMI v1.4 cable - nothing fancy ( pack of 3 = $5.00 - free ship) ....
The only thing I am P*** about is the in INFUSE - all video's you can load ( 1080p) in mp4 ( borrowed from Itunes etc) with DIRECT TRANSFER ie the infuse didnt go thru any 'conversion' before addin to phone.
In NOTE - the same file - note wants to convert to 'mv' - and in my view = this making it NON 1080p format. Since my NOTE is rooted& unlocked , i can and able to by-pass that conversion C***..
.NOTE = does go into "charge mode' when you stop playing videos/ movies ( I have 64GB sd card ( formated for 32 apps +etc and other 32 GB for movies /videos
Ausmike or anyone else: does your note only charge when using this adapter and not streaming video? mine eats up battery when playing video and streaming and it pisses me off. Why couldn't samsung just used a simple mini HDMI or something similar
I've tried the several listed proper sequences, I've tried USB debugging on and off, and I've tried rebooting my phone repeated times. I have the Menotek adapter others on here have said they've had luck with... but no matter what I do, neither the phone, nor the several TVs I've tried it with have recognized each other. I feel like there must be some setting or program I'm missing. Please help.
I get sound, no video

My phone is the att stock version. I have the menotenk with rcp and it works every time I use it on a HDTV but if i use it on a dvi device I have to use headphones or any audio cable in the headphone port or at least use a bluetooth audio other wise I get video that plays about a frame every 3 seconds and no audio. If I am not watching a video it will work fine... but that don't seem to be your problem.
Debugging should be off. This is my procedure:
*Make sure you hdmi cable is already connected to the tv. For things like RCP most tv will only work on hdmi port 1, so just to be sure use port 1 on your tv and make dobule sure you are using the right cable for the port.
* Restart your phone, do not load any app that does not load automaticaly.
Make sure tv is on and set for whichever hdmi port that you intend to use.
Hook hdmi cable to your adapter.
Connect your charger to the adapter. (Most tv's will have some sort of reaction to this. My small tv goes from no signal to no video when I do this, my 52" goes from a blue screen saying no signal to a black screen, this might not happen on every tv but if it does in your then you can guess that connection is good.)
Connect the adapter to your phone. (When this happens you should see the charging icon in your phone, also, you will see a message that says something like "hdmi connected", I can't remeber off my head)
In a few seconds you should see your tv flicker and they you should see video and have audio.
Before I got this menotek I bought another brand and it was touch and go with that one, I had to try the above procedure a couple of times and sometimes it would work, most times it would not....
If you are stock and it don't work I will have to say that you have a defective unit.
Sounds like a hassle to me.
I'm on stock firmware using the OEM Samsung MHL adapter. I simply pull the HDMI out of my PS3, and plug it in to the MHL adapter. Then I plug in the power supply. Then I plug the MHL adapter in my phone. Works flawlessly every time...tested on multiple video apps and games.

Hassle? How so? Sounds like the same thing I do.... I'm trying to help the op, telling him how to connect it probably will not do, If he is reading the instruction on the adapter he is alreading doing that same process, I'm trying to give him a better picture than the instructions on the adapter documentation.
I purchased the Amazon Basics micro HDMI cable (http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-High-Speed-Mini-HDMI-Cable-Ethernet/dp/B003ES5ZR8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1419968500&sr=8-1&keywords=mini+hdmi) and I've been having issues with poor or no connection. The first time I connected the tablet everything was great. I played about an hour of Portal with no issue. I had to reboot the tablet, and after that I couldn't get a signal. I tried the HDMI cable in my Canon 70d and had no signal. I assumed that the cord was bad, but last night I tried again and got a good signal for about ten minutes. I had to change the source on the TV and when I went back to the original input, my signal was gone. Has anyone else experienced this with the Amazon HDMI cable or any other HDMI cable? What are some good low-cost HDMI cables that others have had success with?
Ive used this adapter a few times without issue. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IZYIYX8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 .. If the cable is giving you an issue with multiple devices can it be the TV?

I plugged the cable into all of the HDMI ports on the TV and one on my Sony receiver. It seems to react the same way with both devices. But that adapted you linked looks pretty slick.
Sounds more like a bad cable than anything else. If you replace the cable and it continues then the shield would be the next more likely culprit. I haven't heard of this happening to anyone else, though.
I bought the ADAM elements CASA H01 USB Type-C to HDMI Adapter Gold, I tried connecting HDMI to my S8, S8 says HDMI connected but the TV has no response. I am sure the TV works with HDMI as I tested my XBOX on it. Is there anyway to make it work? Or is my adapter broken?
you can try things like switching the tv off/on and the phone off/on whilst its connected. sometimes, not often, that will help
it sounds like hdmi handshake issues. basically a compatibility problem between the phone and the tv.
Thank you for the suggestion, I tried but still doesn't work. If it's a problem between the phone and tv, should I try the adapter on other tv?
I used Choetech USB C to HDMI 60HZ cable to my S8. Everything worked well. https://www.amazon.com/CHOETECH-Thunderbolt-Compatible-MacBook-ChromeBook/dp/B06XP9NV4G/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1495422430&sr=8-5&keywords=choetech+HDMI
I had some HDCP issues when I tried connecting my S8 to a capture device, but that was due to a poor quality cable.
Make sure your device can read the HDMI signal coming from the phone too. It appears to send 1080p or higher, so if your device only understands 720p (some smaller TVs are like this) it might not be able to see the signal from your phone.
I'm having same issue hubbies works mine won't same cord and tv???
Any idea what's going on I just factory reset my phone and still doesn't work
I just got an hdmi to USB c adapter today as well and I first connected it it did not recognize my phone either. The thing that seamed to do the trick was attaching the adapter to my phone first without the hdmi or power cord, then powercord then connecting the hdmi cord and all works well
still not repaired
4 repair invoices 3 months and still not repaired currently on hold with Samsung .... i'm not impressed as this feature was a huge decision for buying the S8+
i use baseus usb-c to hdmi cable - all work good (but no dex)
I have tried two different usb-c to HDMI cable adapters and can't get neither of them to work. Any ideas thanks
Broken and need help
I have a Ugreen Adapter for usb-c to HDMI cable, it worked very well
On several tvs, it WAS working here in Mexico on my ATVIO tv, then I did some phone cleanup and it STOPPED, is there a special application or setting that I've uninstalled????, I'm lost without YouTube on my tv LOL , cant find info anywhere and I swear I installed something on my phone to get it working like 7 months ago in Dallas LOL
biggest thing iv found with EVERY usb type C connectivity issue, POCKET LINT. its as simple as using a sewing needle or safety pin to CAREFULLY take the pocket lint out of the type C port on your device, there are 30 individual pins in there, and they ALL need to make a good connection to your adapter. brand does not matter, if it works with phone A phone B will figure it out (unless your phone simply doesnt support mhl adapters)
Same problem - Galaxy S8+ with Choetech USB-C to HDMI adapter. Worked a couple of months ago not working now. Wife's phone (exactly the same) work a with adapter and HDMI cable. Cleaned, powered on/off, reset phone, nothing works. So frustrating. Any ideas?
I was using my S8+ with my TV. After a couple updates ( prior to Pie) no longer worked. Please don't suggest turning things on / off or factory reset.... The cord is fine. My phone just now updated to Pie, I thought great, maybe it will work again..... nope... I've contacted Samsung, same BS runaround. Samsung - must be a compatibility issue, Me - it was working, Samsung - must be the cord, buy a new one, Me - already did, tried two different brands, Samsung - was one of them Samsung, Me - ......., Samsung - try factory reset, Me -....... by this time I know I'm screwed. There WAS something to do with an update. (And yes prior to the Pie update I did a factory re-set with no results). From the comments on this post appears no one has a solution....
