Anyone figure out how to get this going?

it's not quite usable for me - battery life is crappy, you can't do tethering, there's a few other limitations - but it's an impressive effort, and some people use it as their primary OS.

Is this the only one for the titan?
I mean project

it's the only one I know of, yeah. the video you linked to is an old one, of an old build of Android, with lots of functions missing. this project is a lot better than that.

I don't think any of the peripherals are working right?

The keyboard works fully with the version I am using
Calls and TXT work but I can't seem to get the WAP and MMS to work

what peripherals do you mean exactly?

I use Magister's build. It rocks. Android is my primary phone OS now. Everything works except the D-Pad, Camera, and Calendar. The browser is fast.
Some exciting news about the vogue build in the PPCGeeks thread. Seems we benefit from the vogue's popularity, since it has the same internal chipsets.
It wasn't immediately obvious how awesome even Magister's 1.0 build was until I got a real feel for the OS. It takes a bit of time to figure things out. I am extremely pleased with all the apps.

Oh, I should probably mention if you want to seriously use 'droid you should really get the 'Close Everything' app.
It helps with our limited amount of RAM, just like oxios except it works with no memory leak.
To install apps just create an AndroidApps folder in the root of your SD card or download the .apk file in the 'droid Browser for auto-install.
Good luck =]

Chances of an SD build of WM6.5?

Good evening XDA crew,
I was just wondering if there is going to be a possibility of a SD bootable version of WM6.5 in the future? Is it technically possible? What are the limitations?
Everyone's (rightly) moving away from WM6.5 and jumping onto the Android bandwagon, myself included, but WM6.5 still earns a place on the HD2, imo.
For two reasons for me anyway - TomTom and LowCaller.
Being able to boot WM6.5 as a secondary OS would be ideal.
So what's the verdict?
I read something either earlier or yesterday (can't remember where on xda) that cotulla was working on getting wm6.5 to boot from an sd card. I don't know if it's true and i can't verifiy it or find the thread i saw it in so don;t hold your breath.
One other thing, please don't assume that using android over WM6.5 is the best choice for everyone. It is just your opinion that android is better. Your post insinuates that any other opinion is wrong. For example, my opinion is that android is an immature, open source, iphone clone for immature, fan boy teenagers. This is not wrong, it is just my opinion. Please take that onboard for the future
Personaly, I don't know if this will be possible. (major doubt about it). But I can be wrong.
but let's be honest, running Android (what is relative a small OS) from your SD works but if we ar honest, it isn't the same as running as if it is install on internal memory.
Now we have WM who is a more large OS. imaging it running from SD
What I will say (I'm a big fan of WM) is we all knows that WM is sometimes what slow/buggy. So if tomorrow it will run from your SD-card I will have doubs about how good it will be.
If I was you I take a good WM custom ROM and run android from your SD-card.
Looks like it's in the works!

Fantastic news for those of us who rely on WM for navigation and Android for everything else!
^agree^
I lost all the utility I had when it came to backpacking/hiking. Geocache and even when it came to navigating with meens other then gps winmo is still the strongest OS. Anyone remember 100% free orbcast and other, iptv ipcc? Those days may not be behind us with this. I love bits and pieces of all the moder platforms, but none provide the real/true utility value of wm65
^^^ +1 for this.
It will most probably take some time (for any platform) to re-discover all the niches which are still being served by WinMo 6.5.
As long as it´s a niche which promises commercial success, one would think it will go fast - but then again, there is some massive doubt about that, considering the current situation.
However, "homebrew" solutions are king when it comes to smaller niches - this is, for the time being, the strength of the Android platform. It was an old, traditional strength of Windows Mobile. Just consider the xda platform we are all being a part of right now.
thats very true, unfortunetly most of my primary utilization of wm was simply that a niche, I must have adopted more niche uses then any other user lol

[DISCUSSION] I like webOS & my HP Touchpad!

Well guys i have been using this TP for about 2 weeks (I bought the 32GB with touchstone at the firesale price) and I must say its bad ass! Personally I think its a nice looking tablet and it feels good in the hand. It may not be the lightest but I personally dont really notice it " fituging my hand". Now let me say I have been using "Palm" for years and think WebOS is by far the best OS with the worst people behind it... but I digress. After the original Pri and all the promises "Palm" made about new hardware just to keep the loyal customers waiting I dropped them. I am now a loyal android user and am using my romed Epic 4g with no problems (waiting for that Galaxy S 2 to drop).
So after putting my TP to 1.5ghz this thing is an amazing tablet and as far as specs go there is not many duel care 1.5ghz 1gb or ram having tablets out there. Plus the GPU is pretty amazing (and I dont think we have even started to utilize it yet). So for 150 bucks I think I got a good deal. If they where to put honeycomb on it this thing would rock (not that I like HC more the WebOS but all the apps really make it worthwhile). Now my favorite thing by far is the Touchstone, I fell in love with it with the Pri and missed it with every phone since. Why no one else has "copied" it is beyond me (yea there is Power matt but its not even close). It is amazing, not only does it "look cool" but its nice to just set the phone/tablet down and not have to find cords to hook up. The feel of tablet of smooth and I really like it.. even better then the Xoom or Ipad2 (yes I have had both). But one of the best features is the "Beats Audio" speakers. This tablet really sounds amazing compared to any other tablet.
So I just wanted to share ... Thanks for reading.
[DISCUSSION] webOS - A Rock to be polished into a Diamond
I'm a cappy and touchpad owner. I don't feel the hype of android on touchpad. You guys take all that effort and money to make WebOs better. There are a handfull of tablets with android around but there's only one with WebOs. Isn't that unique. Make those hours count on something special, not on something
more of the same. Still, I love Android!

I also managed to get a stupidly cheap touchpad and I have to say, I really don't know why webOS has been taking such a beating. Ok, the app support is very limited but I really like it, ok i've OC'd and tweaked a little but im more than happy with its performance. The only thing that I am missing is VNC and yes I know there is a VNC app in preware but it doesnt work on the touchpad, certainly not without a hardware keyboard anyway.
There are several website sites that just don't work on any of the android browsers I've tried but the touchpad handles them flawlessly. I have skype video which I can't get on Android either.
I'll be keeping webOS unless two things happen...
1) Android is available as a dual boot solution
2) There is no performance loss running Android
I feel the hype, but I'm not sure why...
I have a nook color that I ported to android. Yes, I understand that it does not even come close to the hardware in the touchpad but webOS is so much more fluid than gingerbread.
I really do miss all the available apps for android but also really like how webOS handles certain things, very easy to learn. Might have to hold out converting my touchpad over until they get honeycomb.
Wish some devs would put their effort into making apps for the touchpad. With so many sold, there is a good market there. I am willing to pay for apps, I think many people are, but really, there are no good ones right now.
Things the touchpad needs:
FTP client
Be able to connect to ad hoc networks (for tethering) my rooted OG droid only supports ad hoc for tether
Better Browser (firefox!) i'd even settle for an xscope or dolphin port! The browser is surprisingly severely lacking
There are so many more apps I could use but would settle for the above.
This probably isn't the right sub-forum, but I kind of agree. I also have a Nook Color with CM7 and am loving the slickness WebOS. The lack of apps is disappointing, but on the other hand a lot of Android apps are nothing impressive. I'm really not sure if I would put Android on the Touchpad if/when it's easily available (of course, I already have two other Android devices at home).
Like the above, ad hoc networking, some browser options or plugins, and personally a better PDF reader would be great (ezPDF on Android is nice), along with others. Hopefully since the market has grown from the fire sale, some devs will write or port more apps.

There are far too many pointless apps out there both in the android market place and the store for that "i-thingy" that people are always harping on about
My needs are simple...
1) A web browser that works and has decent flash support - Check
2) Skype Video - Check
3) SSH Client - Check
4) VNC Client - FAIL
5) Occasional HD video playing (Kinda check)
I'm really hoping that a proper VNC client is developed, then I can forget about android.

I agree with you guys that WebOs isn't that bad... However, I am going to port Android on mine for sure. The problem is the severe lack of apps. Developers are not going to want to develop for it since the Touchpads are dead. Yes they sold a crap ton of them in a matter of days but who wants to develop for an Os that will most likely be dead in a matter of years.
Something I would really like to see is a split keyboard like Thumb Keyboard or Swifkey Tablet. And Ad-Hoc Support would be nice too.
That's just my 2 cents.
Well my problem is that the SSL web login for my university wifi doesn't even work on the touchpad, which pretty much deem the tablet useless.

I dunno if you knew about this, but WebOS natively supports USB-Host accessories. Look at that video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXRcvN50-nU (i am not the author, and not even an owner of touchpad yet)
it's on russian, but you can get the main idea: without any modifications, using microusb host cable and powered hub you can attach any USB KB to TP.
I have to say I agree with the OP in some sense. I'm an avid Android fan and I was once an avid windows mobile fan. WebOS seems like the marrying of Android, with its openness, and iOS, with its idiot proofness. I am excited about a dual boot but to be honest i won't see myself using android much on this tablet. I'm liking webOS more and more everyday.
i would actually want webOS with a sort of android app emulator if the apps is what you're after....otherwise i'm pretty happy with it, just wish someone would optimise the OS cuz i'm sure there's a lot of room for improvement

I couldn't agree more, with the Touchpad updated to 3.0.2, overclocked to 1.8ghz on both cores and all the tweaks installed, it's a pretty good OS. I was looking ofrward to Android, now I think I'll stick with WebOS, or at most Dual-Boot, though as we've seen before, Android 2.3 doesn't work that fantastically on a tablet anyway...

For me the 1990's era stock browser is the only major problem in the otherwise outstanding OS. I don't understand the logic of using such a basic featureless browser for such a critical aspect of the device.

Yep. The awful browser and no alternatives is what makes webOS useless for me. Love the concept of the OS, but damn is it buggy. Have to reboot mine twice a day because the sound stops working. Haven't rebooted my iPad in over 3 months.

I don't understand how people are saying the browser is awful? Maybe I just haven't experienced the issues people are having. It loads fast, it renders the internet just as a desktop would, flash works flawlessly. This is by far the best web browsing experience i've ever had. The only other thing i would want is tabs and a search function. I know advanced browser has this but advanced browser is super buggy.
I think webos can be a real competitor to the ipad, but many of the blogs I've watched seem to downplay the touchpad. I think a lot of people fear the touchpad is taking all the attention away from other tablets and gadgets. I've seen lots of hope with the Amazon tablet, but if HP comes back with another round of $99 touchpads all other tablets will be sitting on their butts.
It cannot be said enough, webOS is the most complete and most functional multitasking mobile OS out there. My wife has been a webOS fan and we just got 2 Touchpads and we love them, so do our kids. The ONLY thing missing are some key apps (Netflix, Googles) or this pad would be unbeatable which it almost is right now.

Ive posted about it elsewhere so I'll make it short. Doesn't render pages right. Glitches text rendering sometimes. No background downloading in background cards. Multiple cards open leads to the browser never re-sharpening the text when switching between them occasionally (25% of the time prob) until you close the card and reopen a new one. No search in page. Barely any customization. Slower than my Epic4g and iPad 1 at rendering and downloading webpages.
Flash works alright though. I don't really get what there is to like about the browser. It would be awesome if I didn't have an iPad or android phone to compare it to I guess.
I just made a video. Loading engadget. Single core 800mhz Ipad 1 on the left, Dual core 1.5ghz overclocked Touchpad on the right. iPad is using Safari and loading with ads and all and Touchpad has flash OFF and is using an ad blocker.

Pathetic performance by the Touchpad frankly.

Will we ever have a Touchpad running just Android?

Is possible to just have the Touchpad running Android only?
Or will it always be a dual boot type of thing WebOS & Android?
It's already running Android courtesy of Cyanogen with their excellent port that's currently in an Alpha 2.1 release. It is a dual boot and I would think that's the way it's going to stay, so people have a choice, and there's always the ability to remove Android if something happens to the Touchpad,
you can do it right now. Its just incredibly stupid being that android is still buggy.

thank you captain obvious, you did in fact not answer his question at all. I also would like to remove webos ASAP.
Plus, for nostalgic reasons, why get rid of webOS?
Because it takes up precious storage space on us unfortunate 16gig owners, specially since it has no expansion ability on our wonderful wonderful device. Personally i haven't even booted into webos once since cm alpha came out.

I kinda do. The general ui idea is kind of nice, but the implementation of pretty much everything is awful. Eventually I am gonna want WebOS purged from the Touchpad completely and only have ICS on here.
As a response to thread title: that's the plan. As soon as HP replaces my tablet with one that isn't defective. The more I know about hardware inside these, the more I like them. I think they got a lot of potential down the road if they receive some much needed attention from a good team of developers.
Not to be a wet blanket here but under webos, you have a 50gb box.net account for cloud storage. Using dropbox under cm7 you have 5gb additional storage plus the option to purchase more. Even with the 16gb limitation of most of the TP's out there, you still have storage options so the question of webos taking up too much space does not fly. There are good features to webos and I think the devs realize that. I still use webos for most of my business related work and use cm7 for playtime. I have been using cm7 for quite some time and am very comfortable with the system. When we have a stable build, then the option to remove webos might be valid but until then, what we have is an alpha build ported onto a device with a stable OS installed. Just my 2 cents........
Sent from my HP Touchpad using Tapatalk
I have both on my device, if I were forced to choose, I'd remove CM before I removed WebOS.
The app support is the only reason I put it on, the interface and true multitasking nature of WebOS make it superior on a tablet for my needs.
Of course I do have a thunderbolt for my android fix needs.
I think the work the CM team is doing is absolutely great...and it's much appreciated.
But WebOS has been solid, great battery and without issues for my use.

Moving from a Android device to HTC Titan?

I have created this thread after asking this question in a different thread. drupad2drupad suggested i create a thread and sticky it. I agree, thought it might be useful to others. Hope its helpful.
I used to always use Windows phones (back in the days of WM6.5), but the draw of android tempted me. Now i am considering a returning to the the land that is Microsoft. The titan looked like a really good bet for me, but i had the following concerns:
Single core: I know microsoft says there is no real need for dual core phones, but a friend of mine has got a sensation XE, and compared to my desire HD, it flies! Even though my desire is clocked at 1.8Ghz the sensation is running stock 1.5Ghz x2. Can WP7 be that different?
512 MB of RAM: This seems pityfull in todays phones, my old HD2 that! Does WP7 have better memory management than android?
No SD Slot: This is just plain criminal, i have a 32 Gig card and its almost full! Adding a slot could not add that much to the price/Bulk of the device.
Screen Resolution: That lovely big screen was a major attractant to me, But 480x800. 640x960 is becoming the norm with screens nearly a inch smaller in size.
Beloved TomTom: This is more of a general WP7 Gripe. I used TomTom with my old WM6.5 devices, it is hands down the best navigation software. I know android has no TomTom but this would get me back to windows handsets in a flash! I use sat nav for 3-4 hours a day at work, mostly in rural places. Nothing matches TomTom for accuracy or re-routing. Come on TomTom, sort it out!
Please don't take any of this as criticism over the phone. I was seriously tempted when the titan came along. Just me venting my thoughts.
Sorry if i hijacked the thread, just seemed like a good opportunity to ask.
So the big question is, to stay with android or run with WP7?
Have you or any other WP7 users got any thoughts on that?

Hi!
I am so glad you asked this!
Probably your question and my answers need to be stickied somewhere, because I have been long time user of WinMo 6 and 6.5 and then Android's so called openness tempted me. I gave it a shot too. Ran gingerbread stock ROM with 1Ghz processor, ran Cyanogenmod 7 as well as custom gingerbread ROMs. Over clock to even 1.3 Ghz make that android pant for breath and oh those force closes! I still get those nightmares about things force closing right when you are trying to show off how cool your phone is with all those apps in it!
So I gathered courage (and money) to jump the android ship even after the reviews saying ICS will make it all better for android. Guess what? I don't regret it at all. I am so glad I made that switch.
Windows Phone 7 - is what professionals can design. Android is what open source can give. I just tweeted this morning about an interesting article that said, why Android will stay sluggish compared iOS and WP for rest of it's life until they do something what Microsoft did - it's in their framework.
They need that huge processor and huge dual cores because they got their framework wrong. The way they manage memory is ridiculous now that I have understood the difference between WP and Android. I know this will make my post long, but I think it's best if I summarize that article:
1) The UI rendering in android isnt done by separate dedicated thread in framework like WP7 or 7.5 does. So the priority of rendering UI is same as anything else on the phone = more memory requirement
2) In WP each view is rendered separately and stored in the memory. However in Android the UI is flattened before rendering. So this makes android to redraw the whole screen elements from scratch = more processing power
3) About memory - I think this is very much a personal preference. I don't sync my documents to my phone, I keep them on the SkyDrive most of the time. The only things that take up my memory is my songs, lots of them. But my requirement is nothing compared to yours. Say roughly 250 songs = 1GB, I will need to have 8000 songs that I listen to. Honestly, by the time I finish listening to these 8000 songs even once, I am sure there will be atleast 200 new songs. So I don't bother with music or storage much. 12GB serves me well.
4) Screen Res - If you are using AMOLED on Android, you will miss it for may be 3 days. If you are using LCD - you won't notice much difference in resolution. It would have been nicer to get higher res as you suggested, but for this price - it's much worth it with this UI!
5) TomTom - you've got to try Bing Maps! Come on, if you are on android and already don't have TomTom, I bet you've settled for something else. So if you can settle for something else on Android, why not on WP? And the market apps are being added, I don't think TomTom is much farther.
After such a lengthy post, I think I should add, that I've used exactly same spec and same size phone i.e. HTC Sensation XL on the side with HTC Titan. Sensation XL runs Android, Titan runs WP7.
I can bet anyone £500, without rooting and overclocking Sensation XL - show me that it works and looks as good as Titan! - It doesn't.
Every evening I try to play with Sensation XL, trying to make myself regret buying WP because I don't have so called 'must have apps' - but that counts for nothing as soon as I see live tiles on WP and think of the flawless working.
Hint: I bought both phones 3 weeks ago. I got 8 force closes and 2 reboots on Sensation XL so far. I haven't got single freeze or reboot on Titan. - see how different WP7 is compared to 6.5?
Sorry, I forgot to add - if you are a phone user whose life depends more on apps than flawless UI, integration and speed - Don't switch from Android. WP will need at least 12-15 months to have even half the apps (good or ****e) any other platform has.

Single core - My experiences with WP7 have gone back to the beginning and the single core has never been an issue. Even with loading all my email, text message, pics, games, and apps that i use. I'm one to reset my phone (and reformat my PC) just to keep it fresh but I haven't had to do that with the Focus from day 1. I can't say the same for my Captivate which, when I compare it to my Focus being both 1GHz processors, had its slow moments and I've reset that a couple times. WP7 has been more responsive at the same single core speeds. To me this became a non-issue based on experience.
RAM - My experience here is the same as with the single core question. I must say, when they built WP7, they did an excellent job with how it handles memory it would seem. As a programmer and project manager myself, I've seen apps just explode over time (been doing this since the late 80's) because of memory requirements or space requirements. It seems that MS has done a good job keeping the overhead down.
No SD Slot - I agree with you 100% here. As someone who isn't into putting all their stuff on the web I also think an SD slot is called for in all of todays phones. Especially when you reach this stage of feature phone that is supposed to be your one-in-all device. Manage what you have and it will be ok but it might be tedious depending on how often you need to change things up.
Screen Resolution - After handling the Focus, the Titan, and the Vivid on AT&T, I would say that this should be a non-issue for most. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the Titan looked on the bigger screen. Side by side, there was no real difference. People might say there is (to a purist techy, yeah) but in using it, there really isn't.
TomTom - There are a couple big names that already have GPS apps for WP7. TomTom will follow shortly I'm sure. Garmin already has theirs as well as others. WP7 is finally getting traction in the real world and companies are starting to get that. I think it was a "wait and see" scenario from a business perspective for most companies but they're starting to realize the market really is bigger than they thought it was going to be.
Hope this helps...

Echo sentiments on memory and cores. I'll add that the best way to manage music is through playlist. I pick albums to sync via playlists on my Focus. Remove an album from the playlist, add a few more, whatever, makes it easier than manually syncing. I also set up auto playlists for recently added and recently favorited music.
GPS, I used the new flavor of Bing Maps and the direction assistance. Pick a destination, it picks the route. The screen goes into a split mode with the upper half a map auto rotating with current direction and the lower half with the next waypoint. Double tap the screen for audio assistance telling you distance, street name and direction. Once you execute the correct turn, the phone confirms you're on the right path with a ding. Just double tap the screen again for the next step spoken to you. Very easy to do while driving with a level of interaction that keeps you on course with out nagging. I loved it.
Single core:
and
512 MB of RAM:
My HD2 runs winmo 6.5 much better than my friend's captivate runs android. Winmo was much leaner and faster (though prone to locking up) and WP7 takes after that, but never locks up. Winmo also uses roughly 150-180MB leaving an excess of memory... my friend is anal retentive about ending processes on android and I don't remember exactly how much, but he always has significantly less memory available than me. WP7 also inherited this good trait. Honestly, the only drawback is I don't think you can play 1080p video with only 1Ghz, but with the wvga resolution that isn't something worth doing anyway.
No SD Slot:
Kind of annoying, but aside from media, my SD card is otherwise entirely filled with cabs and exes and apks... tools not yet available for use on the titan/wp7. The reason there is no SD expansion is because by locking down the file system size they were able to increase performance. If you invest in a larger data plan and the zune market / get the zune music pass, media storage isn't really a concern. You could even set up a home server and just stream your music, or set up playlists on youtube and get the metrotube app, which can load youtube playlists and it still plays the audio from videos while the phone is off (think: music from youtube).
Screen Resolution:
Since there is no HDMI out, resolution is a non issue. WVGA is fine, there is no stretching or pixelation, you'd never even know it was wvga from looking. This saves space as well, as you don't need to waste space with HD videos; if you properly convert all your videos, you save a lot of space and lose no quality.
Beloved TomTom: Garmin has an app, there are other apps, and there are apps to come. Bing works fine. I really don't see the difference between tomtom / garmin or other major brands: they both work fine and those who like one over the other are generally nit picking extremely irrelevant features, or had one bad experience with one and now unfairly judge it as nonfunctional.
WP7 is a new OS, and for a new OS it's doing very well. Android SUCKED when it first came out, but has grown quite well. WP7 will do the same, in both updates and through here, with the hacking / dev community. The base for WP7 is still windows CE, and technically it can support winmo 6 stuff, technically we can do everything we used to on our old winmo phones... when someone hacks that ability in
Here's hoping we can still dual boot with android in some years

Am I misreading this, or is the moderator of the Titan forum not a Titan owner, not even a Windows Phone user?
Wow. That explains so much.
YES you should make the jump! Love my Titan...not sure Android will ever be as smooth and efficient as WP, no matter how much processor and RAM you throw at it.
This device’s brilliance isn’t limited to the hardware either. Windows Phone Mango is really, really good. Nearly nothing about Microsoft’s OS works anything like iOS, while still feeling very fresh and accessible. It’s exactly the opposite of the way that Android normally feels, which is an uglier and slower version of iOS.
Speed is one of the biggest pitfalls that befall Apple’s rival operating systems. Time after time, touch is proven the biggest reason that iOS feels better to use.
At first, people blamed it on specs, or types of touchscreen. But now that phones are all coming with dual-core processors saddled with blazing GPU’s powering mutitouch tech that is potentially just as good as what Apple is running, it’s a different story.
There is simply no excuse for any mobile device not to scroll, zoom and navigate smoothly any more. Period.
It’s crazy to me how many Android devices still fail this simple test, dramatically. The Lumia 800 is a different beast. With a 1.4GHz CPU, underpowered by most modern standards, the scrolling and zooming experience is absolutely flawless.
Menus scroll and flow with well-timed inertia, pinch-to-zoom is brilliant in the browser as well as in apps like Bing Maps. It really is a first class interaction experience that is matched only by the iPhone in terms of smoothness.

You have not misread, i am not a Titan owner let alone a WP7 user. I have gone through a few OS's now, Theming and developing for them. As of yet i have not tried WP7 (but that might well change)
As of the second comment, it is not helpful. If there is anything i have done that you are not happy with, please feel free to point it out. I try my best to keep everything nice a tidy and keep everyone happy, the great users here in the Titan forum help me out, which i am most grateful for. I do put my time into this free of charge, Its all for the love of this great forum.
Anyway, i am here to moderate not to help with the device itself.
For most of thing i have seen, i think you should have bought the Sensation XL. It is Titan in Android, have almost everything you listed.
But personally, when i chose Windows Phone 7 for another 2 years, i have already kept the idea of no other mobile-based OS. Everyphone got its own optimized hardware for the OS it uses. I would prefer my Titan has the Metro UI instead of a custom build HTC Sense 3.0 .

Give WP7 a try. It might surprise you. I enjoyed flashing ROMs, testing versions of Sense, battery life issues, glitches, incomplete features, app launching, instability, ...wait... no I didn't.
WP7 is the only OS on the market. The others are app launchers with afterthought to social networking and notifications. Metro UI is clean and efficient while still delivering plenty of info with out launching an app.
I used to moderate message boards back when I was an editor and reviewer for a tech site. It isn't easy, so much respect.

I am most tempted by WP7. Just waiting for my ideal phone. Thought it might be the titan, but the lack of a SD slot is a real issue for me. But i am sure the twelve gig you get is fine for a lot of users.
Thanks for the support. It is much appreciated.
Peace!

You're totally right. I didn't mean any offense - you're doing a bang-up job, and this Titan forum is great.
I confused this forum with the generic WP7 forums, in which EVERY thread devolves into a WP7 vs. Android debate. It's tiresome to the point of being entirely counter-productive.
As a moderator, do you think you could talk to the "powers that be" and request a few things?
First off, not all of the WP7 devices, 2nd gen specifically, have their own forums yet, even thought they've been on the market for a while now. Focus Flash and Focus S users are left to post in the 1st gen/original Focus forum. Here's a list of WP7 devices.
Also, the drop down at the top of every forum screen that says "Devices by OS or Manufacturer" only has Android and "Windows Mobile" listed as OSes. If you click on the latter, the Windows Phone devices appear at the very bottom of a tediously long list of old WinMo handsets. It would be more efficient (and more CORRECT) if the "Windows Phone" OS were split from the "Windows Mobile" OS.
Sorry to hijack your thread, and my apologies once again for my counterproductive comment. I don't have much experience with Android, but my thoughts on the Titan specifically may be found here.
I switched from HTC Desire to Titan yesterday. So far so good Everything looks and feels nice and fancy

1) and 2)
HTC Titan is faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaast !! ^_____^
I understand what you are saying. I had doubts too ...
1.5 Ghz and 512Mb of Ram grants on titan the faster smartphone I experienced so far.
3) Here you have a point. I would have appreciated an SD slot too. I didn't see any Windows Phone 7 with SD card so far. Could this be a way to fight piracy ? (to force people using zune to trasfer files? really dunno).
4) Trust me, the screen is amazing, you won't argue about resolution or anything else every time I turn up my Titan all that I think is "WoW!!"
5) There are several alternatives to Tom Tom. Some are free, some are not, some are 'hidden' ... I hear strange voices in the wind whispering " ... use nokia drive ... "
Microsoft of nowdays keeps on giving us high quality products ...
So : YES, buy a Titan over any Android and enjoy the experience

I used a Samsung focus. You could add a MicroSD to it. We were effectively able to upgrade both of our Samsung Focus' with a 32gb MicroSD card. The phones had 40gb of memory. Very nice. Be warned though, that when you try to remove the card and reset the phone, the MicroSD card is locked and cannot be used by anything else, EXCEPT your Windows phone. Yes, it locks the MicroSD card so that it cannot be read by any other device.

Firstly apology accepted, no hard feelings and thanks for the positive feedback
On the first part of your question, i do agree with you the forums are not up when the phones are available. I have had many problems in other forums because of this (Focus S being one of them). But with the sheer number of devices that get released at one time, its hard to keep up and know which ones will be popular. There is a thread somewhere explaining it, but i cant remember where i read it now, sorry!
The second point is a difficult one, i do tend to agree with you. But what about the other builds of android? They could be thought of as different OS, So we get a Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich (not counting the ones before that) So the OS list might get a little complicated. And before you shoot me down saying there not different OS's. Other Android users might totally disagree. Its all a balance of keeping everybody Happy. As i said i personally agree with you, but not so sure others would.
What i will do is post your comment in the MOD section. See what sort of comeback i get and let you know.
Thanks for your feedback and if you have any more questions/issues, please feel free to ask i will do my best to sort them.
Glad you are enjoying the HTC Titan Forum
PEACE!!

I did read about the locked SD card. Sounds like locking you down to zune is what microsoft wants. Not a massive issue, i would assume its still easy to use zune to transfer your music/video?

transferring through zune is very easy and i love the interface, i wish it would be faster though...
there are solutions for unlocking the sd card. the most common one is to format it using a nokia symbian phone. there is also an app made by xbmod which unlocks the sd card but i don't know if it works on any device. i used it on my htc hd2 running yukixda & xbmod's "back to the future" wp7 rom.
however, unlocking the card won't give the ability to transfer usable files to the phone. the wp7 partition has a special format type which cannot be read (yet). unlocking the sd card is necessary if you want to:
- partition your sd card and use part of it as removable storage space. again, this was made possible by xbmod on the hd2.
or
- replace it with another one and transfer the wp7 partition to the new card. also, you will be able to delete the wp7 partition from the old card and format it to be usable again on another device.
Ok so I should be getting my Titan by the End of Next Week and am curious about the Navigation on the phone. With my Android phone all I have to do is cache some of the maps zones using google maps than I can turn off data completely and just have the GPS chip work it's magic. So I guess the question is does the built in maps do this on WP7 and is there a way to completely turn off Data and only have Wi-Fi running so I don't run into overages as I cannot afford a higher tiered plan than the 200mb one. If not I will most likely wind up selling the phone or returning it as I cannot have my Data running my bill through the roof.
try turn by turn nav. You can cache your route at home over WiFi before you set off

Where are the webOS users?

Does anyone in this forum actually use webOS or is everyone just using Android on their Touchpad? I just got my Touchpad yesterday so I havent been around these forums much until now. I just see everyone talking about Cyanogenmod and everything else that has to do with Android. I would like to start some webOS talk if anyone is interested.

The problem with WebOS is that it has been discontinued, is not as versatile as Android, and has like no apps compared with Android.
I have used both on the touchpad, and I can guarantee you if you flashed CM9 and dual-booted both OS's for one day each, you'd stick to Android after that.
There's not a whole lot to talk about WebOS, it's nice, but it's obsolete.
videos are a bit hopeless on quite a few versions of android, so i stick with WebOS for watching movies and stuff via VPN, internet is a grey area, sometimes i prefer when webOS just works as opposed to android browser throwing a fit.
apps.....yh android is 100 times better now that we have ICS
I love the webOS UI. I have an android phone and used to have a webOS phone so I am familiar with both. I agree android has more apps which makes it more usable with most people. But webOS does a better job with how things look and feel in my opinion. I will be installing cm9 on it tonight but will still use both operating systems for different things. I'm hoping with webOS going open source we will see both these operating systems grow with eachother.

I used webOS exclusively until ICS. At least webOS was tablet optimized. CM7 was unbearable to me. webOS is intuitive, stable, snappy, and smooth. The default browser in webOS renders well and handles flash great. Advanced browser added some nice features.
You will find a lot more talk of people using the TouchPad on webOS at webOS nation, formerly precentral. They also have a lot more guides about webOS optimization, like over clocking, preware, and more. XDA is dominated by android, so it makes sense most of the users here run ICS. I have a brother in law that bought a TouchPad at full price before the fire sale. He loves it and webOS, he didn't know you could put Android on it.
To me it comes down to use. I use my tablet for almost 90% web browsing. On GB web browsing was terrible. But ICS brings solid web browsing that I feel is faster than the webOS browser. Then while I'm in there I get to plug into my Google stuff easier.

Thanks for your opinion. I am a member of webOS Nation too. I'm just over here more since I have a Droid X2. I think a lot of users have left the forums over there too, sadly. I guess I'll be jumping back and forth.
I purchased my Touchpad during the initial fire sale, with the goal of installing Android on it. I found that I actually like WebOS, so I never installed Android and don't plan on it at this point. I don't care that there are not as many apps on WebOS as there are on Android. I have an Android phone and Galaxy Tab, and don't have very many apps installed on either one of those either. I like how smooth and intuitive that WebOS is, and I love it's interface. So, WebOS is a keeper for me.
If I ever feel like I absolutely have to have an ICS device, then I'll just go out and purchase one with the OS already installed on it (provided that it's a decent price).

that's the thing, only one of those operating systems is going to "grow"
I get that WebOS is open source now, but the difference is that Google is still making new versions of Android, but NO ONE is making new versions of WebOS, so it is just a losing proposition.

webOS isnt even fully open source yet. No one can really do anything with what HP has given them so far. But once developers get a hold of a fully open source product, only time will tell if we will see another "version of webOS" or big improvements on what is already there. Im just being optimistic about the whole open source thing and hoping to see SOME good come out of it. I will have Android on my device as well for future development on the Android side of things.
I too have been an Android convert since my wife got the G1 from T mobile several years ago. Then I went to the Droid X. Then a galaxy tab 7 and now a Razr.
I wanted a larger tablet and saw the price of iPad and others and thought I would just keep what I had. When I read that the touchpad could run android and they were just $200 a few months ago, I bought 3. Then sold one, gave one as a gift and kept one.
I really like webOS. I use it for just surfing, email and the front facing camera works with Skype. Ics still has no ffc. So with webOS it doesn't matter.
I think the touchpad is one of the best tablets out there. You have the great feel of webOS on one side and the flasoholics dream on the other.
Sent from my DROIDRAZR using XDA
So I bought my tp about a week ago, and played with webOS for about two hours before/while installing android on it. I laugh at anyone who wants to "remove" webOS from this tablet. It is a fantastic operating system. But you have to admit, android's app selection is a huge, huge pro to installing ics. Whether you care or not is irrelevant. Both OS's are solid and stable, both have their pros and cons. I can see myself using webOS 100% of the time if their app selection half way caught up with android. As it is, webOS is a very nice alternative if your android is bugging out for whatever reason, and android is a nice alternative if you want more apps than webOS offers.
Hopefully, the open sourcing of webOS will give a huge boost to the dev community, for both OS's. Imagine having webOS with a ton of mods and customizations and apps, while having android with flawless wifi and camera. I would love to see that happen. Then we would literally have the best tablet available!

Agreed, unfortunately there are not a lot of apps out for webOS. If the OpenMobile ACL project takes off soon then this may be a thing of the past, until then I'm happily running ICS on my touchpad.

I agree. I bought the 32 gig because I knew I was going to install android on it. 32 gigs is a lot of space so like you said, I see no reason not to if you have the extra space. If it wasnt for the apps on android though, I wouldn't bother.
How anyone can stand the WebOS browser is beyond me. Absolute garbage. I couldn't flash Android fast enough.
I used webOS for as long as it was reasonable to do so - but CM9 is clearly a better choice for almost anyone. I tweaked and fiddled and played with webOS to get the most seamless experience possible, spending a TON of time on it, and in the end it's just a ton of effort expended to bring the device up to "adequate". Most of the fixes and tweaks etc that I recommended should have been baked into the code for webOS -years- ago. It's really a shame how hard they dropped the ball - and this is coming from someone who's been a webOS convert since I bought my very first pre- on launch day and has put up with all the negatives. SOOOOOO much promise, massive failure to deliver. I can't help but feel like even the open-source effort is a bit slow and stalling, and the timeline on this is doing nothing but sending experienced devs who -were- webOS faithful on to other devices.
As it sits, the touchpad running CM9 is one of the most capable ICS-equipped tablets on the market. It's a beast in terms of CPU, graphics, screen, etc. The newest nightlies run beautifully. I can't see any reason why a TP owner wouldn't want CM9 installed on their touchpad. Even if you still use webOS (I do from time to time), having CM9 on there is a no-brainer. 20 seconds and you've rebooted into CM9 ready to use it's vast array of apps, enjoy a much more capable web browsing experience, and generally massively improve the usefulness of your tablet. There's no downside.
That's why the webOS users are a bit sparse, and that's a trend I only see continuing.
Just landed into this forum after get the link from Google, shows that Touchpad was heavily installed with Android in it (mostly CM9?).
Currently I'm using only WebOS on my Touchpad, not yet try to install CM9 on it. Only have 16GB version. Previous day have a plan to get 32GB version, so I can install CM9 on it, but now changes a plan a little bit for it.
Meanwhile, I try to keep watching the progress on this forum, about Android usage on Touchpad. If someday I will install CM9 on it, it should be dual-boot. Hopefully after WebOS become open source fully, like Android, many apps appears for it.
I never run into space issues running webOS and CM9 on a 16 GB. I see it as a cloud based device. Without an internet connection I wouldn't use it. I stream everything, so I don't store any content on it. Loaded with apps, I still have more than half the system partition free, and like 2/3 the storage space free.
