Is there a better radio for the Bell Touch Pro? - Touch Pro CDMA

Hi all!
I recently upgraded from a Bell Mobility PPC-6800 (Mogul) to a Bell Mobility Touch Pro (CDMA carrier in Canada for those who aren't sure). I had already flashed my Mogul with a DCD rom, which I loved. Now I'm running the NRGZ rom 3.0 I found over at PPCGeeks.com and it's also a very impressive package he's put together. Loving the speed of it so far.
I've searched around and the only reference I've found to radios are for the GSM Raphael, not the Herman. Are there better radios out there that I simply haven't found? My signal bars are typically low....it might spike to full from time to time, but then it'll drop back to 1-2 bars. My Mogul used to get full reception anywhere, so I know the Bell network has a fair amount of coverage.
Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks guys

If you check out the CDMA part of the Touch Pro forums on ppcgeeks, you will find a topic about various radios. As long as your phone is unlocked, you can use any of the radios. Apparently the radio that works the best varies significantly on factors such as location, etc.
Personally, I'm new to flashing Touch Pro's, but I've flashed 4 radios and find that the Telus radio seems to have a slight advantage here in Edmonton. Of course that is subjective, since I have no real numbers, and my results could have been skewed by many different factors.
Keep in mind, for warranty purposes, you can't go back to your original radio with Bell, since they have not released a shipped rom for people to take apart. This means you have to hope the warranty guys miss the fact that you changed the radio, even if you flash back to a stock bell rom, since it technically voids the warranty to change the radio. The Telus radio has the most similar version numbers to the bell stock radio.

I recently went through an unlock /flash and radio for my dad, the radio was by far the most time consuming part, I flashed something like 10 or 12 radios, and running fieldtest on each one to get the best signal, then having to go through all the crap to find the best battery consumption versus the best signal was a P.I.T.A. but he's way happy now. and when your pop is retired and he lives 3 hours away, every chance he gets he'll talk your ear off. the Best Radio is largely a per person/device thing. what carrier you have affects it, what area you're in affects it too. I hope I helped a bit, at least more than I confuzed you.

Tmobile vs. ATT radio stacks ?

I just converted my Tmobile service to ATT after getting tmobile to unlock my phone for me.
I have everything working with ATT now and no problems so far. In fact the one thing I hoped would happen is I would get the better coverage at my home with ATT then I had with tmobile and I have, so I am happy.
Now, I am curious about something I have read in regards to "radio stacks", and apparently different providers may have different radio stacks?
I want to make my phone as compatible as I can with ATT and just curious if anyone knows of any specific ROM's, Radio Stacks or any other ATT based software that might be beneficial to me. You help will be greatly appreciated.
Unlike T-Mobile, ATTWS includes almost no carrier-based software on the phone. You're running a pretty generic HTC setup on ATTWS.
I switch back and forth between ATTWS and T-Mobile and I have not had any problems using one radio stack on the other.

My question is this, since you're now getting better coverage at my home with ATT what raio stack is your phone currently running AT&T or T-Mobile? To check go to Start, Settings, System, Device Information.

Sprint ppc-8600 vs Alltel ppc-8600

I don't know if this is the right place to ask this, but it seems like the best bet on someone knowing a definite answer.
I'm currently with alltel and am looking to get a ppc-8600, however on browsing around i'm noticing the sprint phones are $100-200 cheaper in general than that alltel branded ones.
Is the only difference the firmware and how long they've been out, or is there hardware differences as well? Will a sprint phone flashed to alltel have any feature/response difference?
More importantly, does anyone know for sure if alltel lets people use sprint branded phones that they sell the same model for, assuming the esn # is clear?
Likewise if anyone has an experience with it, assuming an alltel phone, or the flashed sprint phone works, would it be possible to flash over to say, the new sprint rom comming that enables full gps, and still use with alltel?
Edit: I realize i was being completely dyslexic when i first posted this. I mean the 6800. My apolgies.
Hi,
I will attempt to answer a few questions and relinquish what I do know...
I have the Alltel PPC6800. It believe it has been out since early October; maybe a little before. The Sprint version (Mogul) is cheaper because the Sprint client database is MUCH larger. Asides from the Alltel version clad all in black, the Alltel has a better radio firmware that can be installed on the Sprint Mogul. Also, the Moguls from Sprint have been plaqued with Bluetooth issues. My PPC6800's Bluetooth works great. Software differences will include Network specific apps, PRL list, etc.
I know Verizon recently released information that they were going to allow other CDMA networks phones on their network but I do not think Sprint or Alltel will. At least not yet.

HTC P4000 Telus?

Telus calls it the P4000, I was seeing what's compatible and what's not. Is the p4000 compatible for upgrading and such, I got a HTC Touch 2 weeks ago learning all the flashing and upgrading, but I hate the phone, breaks easy, scratches easy and just garbage phone so I need to move on, which is funny cause this phone is older so I'm moving backwards?
Everything here for the Titan should be compatible with your phone unless you stumble upon a carrier specific ROM.
it is 100% compatible with all the upgrade provided here.
I do have a P4000 from Telus and everything is 100% ok.

TELUS Titan is a better build quality phone than the TELUS Vogue [Touch]. The radio is better, it is easier to flash ROMs, and I personally prefer the appearance and extra buttons. Speaker quality is just a little better, but not too much so.
P4000 was a more expensive phone even though it is older. Sure, it has half the RAM, but the Touch is prone to glitch out.

[Q] Definitive way to improve reception?

Okay, so I'm on the T-Mobile USA network. I've had a Dash 3G for a long time, and I've recently picked up an HD2. My Dash 3G gets full bars in my house, no matter where I am. But when I put the SIM card in the HD2, I'm lucky if I get any service at all. If I so much as LOOK at it the wrong way, the signal dies completely.
Is there a definitive way of increasing the antenna reception, or is the HD2 just like this all the time? Or is it just my phone? Is there a specific radio people have tried that have improved reception (I'm in Utah, if that makes a difference)?
Sorry, I'm still way new to all this flashing and stuff.
Hi,
I've noticed that with the HD2, antenna reception in my area was very poor until I upgraded the radio to 2.14... Then again, I mainly use the phone with Android and not WinMo. I suggest trying to upgrade the ROM (Stock if you don't wanna mess with HSPL) through the normal channels (HTC upgrade or Tmous upgrades) and seeing if that works for you. Otherwise if you're feeling adventurous, there are tons of guides to flash HardSPL which permits you to upgrade your radio only.

Here is the link to the radio ROM thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787
And finally, here is the Tmous flashing procedure: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653614
Good luck!

Excellent, thank you for this.
I have one other question, though -- What's the difference between the sections in that radio thread? We've got 2.xx stuff, and then we've got 15.xx stuff. Can I flash one each at a time, or only one?

Signal sucks?

Recently ended up with this phone, wanted to use it on straight talk with a AT&T sim since it is unlocked.
It works, kind of.
I get one bar or no signal in places I have 2 or 3 bars on my old HTC one M8.
I thought about trying a different rom or a different radio if you can flash those on this phone. I am used to the unlocked bootloader on M8.
I even tried the aluminum foil mod around the battery I found on these fourms. Currently I am back on the HTC because this thing gets no service. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Search the General and Q&A sections for unlocking radio bands, although I don't personally have experience with this - have just seen the multiple threads.
I finally managed to get into the Verizon hidden menu and enable all supported bands, 2 and 5 were unselectable but I think AT&T uses 4. Still getting spotty service, anyone know if any modems are better for gsm than whatever version is with the stock 6.0.1 rom? I've seen a few post mentioning 12b, is that the most stable or something?
How did you did that? Interested in getting 2600Mhz (if possible)
