Hey guys, I just got my touch pro last week and now the keyboard wont work. No drops or water damage. It wont light up or anything. I dont want to have to go back to the sprint store, so if u guys have any suggestions that would be awesome. Thanks.
Sorry
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I had the same thing happen to me. I spent probably a combined total of 8 hours on the phone with different people before I got any kind of solution. I couldn't find anything online. I was out of the initial Sprint Warranty. So Sprint said, sorry, you're gonna have to pay for a whole new device. That wouldn't work, the device was just 3 months old. So I called HTC, and at first they said there was nothing they could do either, until I talked to one person who forwarded me to PCD. They were able to fix it, for free under warranty, they replaced some RFID tag (IDK what that meant, it was in this checklist of tests they sent back) and sent the phone back. All I had to pay was shipping to their Repairs center. The bad thing was, it took them 3 weeks to work on it (only 4 days were shipping there and back). I hope I have been helpful, and I am sorry about the bad news. I know the feeling.
Hey, i had the same problem but i went to sprint and change my device, the new one works perfect, my advice go back and change it.

Not much but maybe
Had one that same thing happened. Performed hard reset and corrected it maybe temp fix though but it worked so far about a week of good use so far.
I had the same thing on my Verizon Pro, what I found was (I took mine apart) was that the cable had came loose from it's connector, I just had to reseat it and works perfect. By the way I bought it that way (got a great deal because it didn't work).

I have the same keyboard problem...it doesn't work most of the time, but once in a blue moon it will....the keyboard lights come on, but no input from keys work....so is that still a connector issue you think? Did you keyboard backlight come on?
2nd question: How do I open my TP?
Thanks.
Here's a link with the Touch Pro teardown, thanks to BigDiesel07 @ PPCGeeks. Hope this helps a bit...

I am not sure if my keys lite up or not, it has been a while, but it sounds to me like a possible connection issue with it being intermittent.
happened to me twice hopefully tp2 fixes this little issue.
same problem!!! just go to sprint, they can fix the problem... "they changed my keyboard"!!!
yah me too, i took my touch pro back to Sprint and they changed the whole touch screen part of the phone for me in 45 mins and for some reason that fixed the keyboard as well, so i guess the problem is in the touch-screen part of the phone, not the keyboard itself
Try this. Take out the battery and pinch extremely hard on the space button to re-seat the keyboard cable.
I'm not completely sure if it will work as I got my phone replaced before I found this fix.
Try it and let me know if it helped any.

Genius! However, i am not. Your solution worked, however i fear it may be a temporary solution? I want to get this fixed while under warranty and dumb ol' me fixing it, well, now i won't have anything to show the sprint store

go to your phone carrier.
demand a NIB replacement. (new in box)
it states in the manufacturing warranty that you get a NIB replacement for the keyboard. it's a known problem, tell them to call the tech department or htc tech support and they will tell the rep the same thing.
Don't leave without a NEW replacement.
Don't take a refurb(mailed out) replacement.

hahahahahha.
I call BS on that one. lol.
I did it... removed bat', piched key b'. it now works... eeeeeeeeyesss
Got a 0 hour touch pro less than 2months, keyboard started lagging since 2 weeks ago, then extra spaces and duplicate letters and finally died after a charging session in a hot weather day.
Removed battery and press spacebar top and bottom very hard to resit the keyboard connector fixed the issue.
Same happened to me on my Alltel CDMA Touch Pro after having owned it for about 4 weeks. It would also not shut off the screen backlight. Was very odd. Luckily, my Alltel store is literally across the alley from my house, so I ran a full backup using Sprite Backup, walked over there, and they swapped it out for a new phone within 10 minutes. Took me another 45 minutes to restore the backup, but wasn't nearly as bad as sending it away for several weeks to be repaired.
Hi all:
I've done extensive searches regarding this issue and have yet to find the same issue I'm having. I've recently began having issues with my hardware keyboard on my FUZE adding extra spaces when typing. I would hit the space bar at normal speed and extra spaces would be added as I'm typing. I wonder if this is a hardware or software issue and if anyone has had similar issues and what they've done to resolve it. My FUZE is about 6-months old and I use the HW keyboard quite a bit for texting/e-mails so I need the HW keyboard functional. I'm still under warranty but would rather not have to deal with AT&T customer service. Thanks everyone!!!

You know, it's funny. I had a much longer response typed initially, but XDA was giving me trouble, so after typing it 3 times, I went with a more brief response.
Apparently (as discussed in the Kitchen thread), there's an issue with the input driver of the 21812 build ROM. I'm not sure if that's the build NRG was using on 6/13, but it's very possible. So, Da_G has included the CompIME.dll from a working build (in this case, 21731) in the kitchen to correct the error, which was isolated in that thread by pyrorob. So, I cabbed up the driver for my personal use with the newer ROM build (21815) in case this was still an issue. Since I just had it hanging out on my SD card, I figured I'd share it.
So, to answer your question, the cab just replaces your existing CompIME.dll with the one from the 21731 build. Hopefully this will correct your problem.

Edit* I checked the version and NRG is using Build 21812.5.0.50 so that may have been the issue in my case.
Edit** I'm still seeing the same problem. I'm going to try a reflash of the stock FUZE and go from there when I get more time this evening. When flashing to a different/Stock ROM, do all the device drivers get update or just what the Chefs feel are necessary?

For custom ROMs, it is possible that the chef may change some of the drivers in the OEM/SYS folder. Try a different custom ROM (even a different build number) to confirm that the problem is specific the NGR 21812.5.0.50 build.
For stock ROMs, the content will be what was released by the Manufacturer (HTC/AT&T). If the problem occurs with a stock ROM, I would be inclined to suspect faulty hardware.

hi there, i got the same problem as well, and i think it's worse than yours, mine sometimes even appear the full stop symbol after i typed the spacebar button from my HW keyboard, and i am also using EnergyRom as well... try flashing other Roms and see whether the problem exist or not, because i think i din find a problem in other roms... but i am still sticking with EnergyRom as i think i got some idea not letting it shows that often now...
i have the opposite problem my spacebar is now not putting spaces when it should. i have to make sure i focus on the button press, just started happening this month and ive had it since november
I had the problem several times, I restored back to AT&T ROM and Radio, and did an XBM on it.
Its a hardware problem. The Space and delete key can get hard to press, and when they do press, it does it multiple times.

I have a Touch Pro which I bought in October and the space bar on my keyboard started playing up too. It would miss spaces when i was typing away and sometimes would insert extra spaces. It was driving me mad. I took it back and had the keyboard replaced under warranty and it has been perfect since.

I still have the same issue even with the original shipped ROM. I'm going to say this is a hardware issue and prep my device for warranty return/repair. This would be my first time using a warranty return/repair. How long does it take through AT&T and will I be out of a phone for a while?

First thing's first - make sure you return the phone to stock specs (including stock SPL) prior to returning.
The way the warranty exchange works is, you keep your phone, they send you a new (refurb) unit while you still have your existing phone, and when you get the new one, you put the SIM card in it, and use the packaging to send the old one back. That way, you're not out of a phone at all. I got mine the next day. Its a good system.

Thank you for the quick response. I'm working on returning the phone to stock and will be talking with AT&T soon. Would it be best if I went in to the store or just call? I was hoping this phone would last until the Touch Pro 2 was released for AT&T. Thanks again!

I have reflashed HardSPL and the same NRG WM6.5 6/13 ROM. I can verify that it is not a ROM/Driver issue since my device is working fine. This is a hardware failure and needs a replacement device. Thank you for everyone's input and helping me to find some sort of resolution to this isue.
im currently having issues with my panel. checking out multiple threads i finally come to a conclusion... my screen is giving out. there is a certain area where if pressed, i hear the screen creek a bit and i feel it dip in. im assuming this is the cause of my touch screen not responding in certain areas, because its not grounded all the way around. my dilemma is this:
1) its not that bad, so i could just use it till it gets worse
2) get a replacement for my phone
my issue with 2 is that im gonna get a refurbished phone.... ive always had issues with refurbs. i used to work for verizon and once people got a refurb, it was over. they couldnt get a working phone at all after that. a little help or insight on other possible options would be very helpful. thanks in advance guys!

If you decide to keep your phone, you can either have a cell phone shop fix it for you. You are looking around $100 - $140.
If you decide to fix it yourself, a screen kit goes online for around $30 - $50. That and if you've ever worked on a pc(preferably laptops), then this will just be like working on a smaller version. There are how to guides online as well as youtube videos.
Also, I heard from another member who's having their phone replaced that Verizon/Asurion are out of stock on Thunderbolts and will issue a comperable model(probably a charge or revolution).

Hi!
I know this topic has been written about countless times! I know this because I've read most of these threads (atleast the ones I could find), but my case seems to be different..
Last year, all of a sudden, I couldn't use my stock SE headphones. It seems that when I dropped the phone in the snow, something happened.
Now, I can use any kind of headset once, every 24 hours or so... If I take them out, and then put them in again, I get a pop-up telling me the accessory is not supported.
I tried changing the ROM, hoping it would work (using miniCM7pro atm), but I still got the same problem. I really don't like the fact of turning the phone in for a repair since I had to wait 3 months when I turned in my charger that stopped working all of a sudden..
So I'm wondering... Is there any other tweak/ solution or anything that I can do to fix this?
Thanks in advance,
/Nanashi Dri

That looks like hardware related problem. i hope someone here will come up with some answer for this....
I don't think there is an easy fix for what you're experiencing. but here's a few steps you could take.
Make sure there is nothing in the headphone jack that shouldn't be in there (bits of dirt/grit)
Make sure none of the contacts appear damaged. There should be 4 contact points inside the jack socket (exluding headset controls)
but i think the phone will ultimately need to be sent for repair

Hi! And thanks for your replies,
I'm not quite sure how I'm able to see the fourth one, since it's way too deep down, but I can see three of them.
Even if it will ultimately need to be sent for repair, I want to do my best to try and fix it before I send it in, since I really hate the thought of sending it in and then wait for three months. I'd rather buy an mp3 player, or and iPod or something in that case.

They will send it to you as soon as the parts arrive....dont worry. better you replace or repair it before it does a big problem.

I'll see what I'll do. Worst case scenario, I'll re-install the original ROM and un-root, and then send it in. But I do want to try and fix it myself first.
Got one more year on my warranty, so time's not a real problem if I don't succeed..
Nanashidri,
at least you considered to unroot and go to stock before giving it.
i just gave it so those dummies at SE centers so they will go crazy seeing me running 2.3.7 on this phone, and they did go psycho! i indeed was laughing cause they started asking me silly questions, "how did you get this in this phone" and such questions.
i simply answered as i was roaming the internet and i did what you could not do....and they where dumb after that....funny funny (i came home and couldnt resist laughing at this matter).
my phone had camera function and my phone restarts after using it. so it was a hardware problem but they never understood it. in retaliation they just flashed the original 2.1. and for two weeks they still never got it right. i went inside the engineers room and recreated the problem. their eyes opened and tubelights switched on in their heads. at last they changed the main board and now it works!! see?
funny things happen....so dont worry. get yours changed when you still have warranty.
keep it up bro!
And this sorry ericsson is going better as "SONY" from next year! no more ericsson!
Ok, so basically I was ODINing back to stock.
I left the phone in my lap without the battery cover, and it fell unplugging itself, and the battery also got removed.
Now the phone will NOT turn on no matter what I do!
Any help?
Have u tried holding the volume buttons and plugging in the USB?
Have u tried other ways to get into dl mode?

I do not suggest the unbrickable mod unless you are extremely good with soldering and have eyes like a eagle. Id send it off to mobiletechvideos or Adam Outler for a professional debrick service. Ive been soldering since the 1970's and professionally since the 1990's for Qualcom and Intel and I decided not to offer this service after doing this mod to my phone and several customer phones. It is a very small working area and even with a 20x eye loop I found it just slightly to difficult to guarantee the work myself. Maybe its my old man eyes, but I would send it off to someone who has no problems performing this task on a daily basis... IMHO

lol, sucks getting old, I did the mod myself with a $7 iron from radio shack in less than 10 min. Disclaimer: I sharped my soldering skills working for a military contractor doing micro smb rework with a microscope 8~10 hours a day for a few years.
But yes, very small parts very very easy to f.kd. if you don't know what you're doing.

Yes very much agreed, lol... I know what Im doing and my Iron is a standard Weller WES51 and I was using brand new 1/64 tips. I just could not properly see the damn thing. Below is an image of my resistor, its thinner then the finger print folds on my index finger, and my fingers are small lol. I have to agree its best to use a microscope set to something easy like 50-100x I would assume.

On another topic, several years ago I found out I am diabetic and I now can not read text even on my 55" HDTV, although I am near sighted (and it seems like I am focusing ok when using the loop) I have a feeling it must be my eyes not allowing me to see it clearly. After testing and RMA repairing thousands of Qualcom GPS units back in the day, I am not accustomed to failing at something I was normally always was good at. I guess the last 10 years of not working in the electronics industry has made me rusty (2001 I changed professions). My baby brother got to witness this mod taking place on his Fascinate and his jaw nearly dropped, and he mods car computers as a hobby. Its not something 99% of users could do I wouldn't think.
P.S. I have 6 years straight of RMA surface mount repair work on the GPS units you find in the trucking industry (the first few generations in the mid 90's), not only did I solder 8 hours 5 days a week, I also had to clean out disgusting coffee crap and cigarette/cigar residue (and only God knows what else), LOL... But it was fun. I would clean the disassembled units in a commercial grade dishwasher machine (just for electronics) using only hot distilled water, and then dry bake them in an oven, re-assemble them with new screens/keyboards etc and then go to town testing/repairing what ever it was that got it sent in for the RMA in the first place. The work was not even close to the small size this phones pcb and components are though, lol... not even remotely... haha, I would need a Microscope to regain my confidence to regularly work on this PCB again...
A $7 IRON????? Jeez and I barely could do it with descent equipment
Ironically I developed far sight problems, my doctor said was because of the extended hours working with a microscope and my eyes started to become lazy to focus at far objects, however my near vision improve ??? go figure.

WAIT, WAIT LOOK AT THIS FIRST, ADAMS BEEN WORKING ON THIS FOR A LONG TIME, AND ITS LOOKING LEGIT TO BE ABLE TO DO AN UNSOLDERABLE JTAG!!!

To the OP, I really hate saying this but I just have to ask. What were you thinking Odining your phone without the battery cover on??? This is just asking for a hard brick... Now that I got that off my chest I want to say I feel your pain. As jrafael has stated you can debrick it yourself if you can solder. But, I would contact Adam Outler here in the XDA forums and ask him if he is still doing this service. Below is his Vibrant DeBrick thread...

LMAO, I know it Bro!! It does seem a bit of a stretch, but I do respect Adams work in this area!
Especially since I myself once bricked my T959, by doing a KIES up-grade procedure, before I was warned by stumbling across a thread the next day after I made the fatal mistake, on the dangers of using KIES, Was dumb and newbee then!! = @#$%&* and even more cuss words! LOL
So anyways I've been looking and hoping for someone to be able to do what Adam says he's accomplished, and that is to be able to re-write corrupted primary and 2ndary Bootloaders W/O having to JTAG the traditional way!
But I'm not even disputing your word Bro, and I respect your contribution to this community as well. I'm still kinda lost as an Easter Egg with Linux, but I'm educating myself each week with it, so as to be able to perhaps execute a recovery if I brick my phone again, so I thought throwing that Post Link in by Adam might have some merit to it, and help this poor Guy out, I feel his pain, But like you I gotta wonder why he had the cover off, and had it set somewhere it would fall and unplug, etc!! Peace Bro!

I had the cover off because I was battery pulling because I was flashing MIUI, then ICS Passion v8 came along and i wanted to ODIN but was too lazy to put the cover back on. It was on my lap, i moved a bit and bam, it falls to the ground :/
thanks a bunch though, trying your thing first.
Good luck shawayne, I hope Santa is kind to you this year...
Still no luck sadly.... I think I am just going to have to sell it..

Sounds like your looking for an upgrade from the Vibrant. Why not just get it fixed? I think its only like $35 or along those lines to debrick it... might be wrong though...
I have just wasted so much money on phones its not even worth it anymore. I have a Samsung galaxy S2 Epic Touch which im thinking of using now. The vibrant was the best phone I have ever owned, and if its a free fix, i will stay with it, but I honestly do not want to spend over 20 more dollars.

O, I hear ya. Good luck with what ever you do. The Vibrant is still pulling in good money even for bricked ones, so good luck to you...
Hey I hear ya, stuff happens, and if were smart, it doesn't re-occur!! LOL
Anyways food for thought, If you actually get the boot-loaders re-flashed and your phone turns on, awesome job, congratulations!
BTW, the primary Bootldr is for powering the phone back on, and is the most important one, the 2ndary Bootldr does the instructions for loading the OS or as we call it the ROM.
OK also, bear in mind, this resurrection Adams got going is for either GB or ICS Roms, so what I'm pointing out is. If you do get it to turn on, after doing the Bootldr's.
Remember to load a ROM that is specific in build to either GB or ICS!!!!
Otherwise it might cause a big problem, because if the BL's are written for those type of builds, then it can only seem logical to me to re-flash from the start one of those two types.
If it powers back on, you can let it roll and see what happens or pull the battery before it begins to load the ROM that may be on it. Have ODIN or Heimdall set up with a GB or ICS based build, extract the TAR file from whatever flavor you choose, and then set it up, with re-partician, and the 512 pit, and tick reboot after flashing or keep it un-ticked, wait for the Green Pass indicator on ODIN etc, and then un plug it, and hold the power rocker until it turns on, your choice!!
At least then if it successfully boots up with that ROM, you have a working phone that you can tear back down and start where you want or move forward to NEO's ROM, which I recommend Passions V8 as you were attempting that before this ordeal happened! I've been running it all day, and so far 0 defects, despite all the chatter I've read about problems, which aren't occurring on my install.
I always wipe, both caches before I do the 1st re-boot after a ROM flash! Prevents alot of bootlooping and problems!!
Anyways good luck with all this, and Please inform me on whatever happened good/bad/or indifferent. As I need to know if this is a new frontier we've crossed here concerning the Vibrants, and Adams brain child program!
