noob questions, sorry :/ - Touch Pro CDMA

ok just got my touch pro for Sprint love it, but looking for a few things. I have searched and checked around but their are SOOO many diff roms and tweaks I just want a few simple ones and the best and how to.
Any link or info to get the new touch flo look?
and I really wanna improve the sliding bar thing at bottoms speed since tis really sluggish.
I dont want to drastically change anything, just the new touch flo experiance and make the phone faster and perform better.
THanks, really appreciate it.
also a walkthrough on how to apple these would be useful. I am familiar with android but not sure about this.

There is a sticky on unlocking and flashing your phone. Read that. It's thorough and easy to understand. Then if you have questions report back.

As for the ROM....Most folks will tell you to each his/her own but if you want just speed and stability without all of the bling. Juicy8 is the best in my opinion. But it's just that; my opinion. XDA is an awesome site! You may want to check out PPCGeeks as well. Good info there too.

thanks trying to find juicy8 right now to see what it is.
and well what kinda "bling" is offered? besides themes of course. I love the default colors and style etc.. I mean id take a UI upgrade as long as it looks like the HTC one still

why flash the rom on your phone?
which custom rom does what?
any specific rom for specific purposes?

To get certain things that stock ROMS don't have. Like: Speed, not loaded with Carrier crap.
The ROM post should have info about what is included and what isn't.
Some are made to have more RAM some are made to run Smoother.
Wiki.
I might be wrong, but that is what I have learned overtime.

Who is your carrier?
Good Question
I am glad you asked this because I have been wondering the same thing.
I have the VZW Touch Pro and was reading a LOT on unlocking and then flashing ROMs. I didnt know really what the benefits were besides speed and making it smoother. Does the ROM allow you to have better themes?
Eventually (sooner than later I think) they will be able to unlock the GPS on VZW as well.
I really wish somebody could post a video or something on YouTube on either how to go about the process or what it looks like after flashing a custom ROM.

Custom ROM"s are highly varried. You need to try them out.
I created a Custom ROM that allows you to stay with the 100% stock look, MUCH MUCH faster than ROM that came with phone.
Lots of others add a bunch of crapware and bloatware to the ROM. I didint do that to this one. I left it stock. It runs very fast.
Custom ROM"s also remove some securuity features like when youa re installing an app you are not questioned if its what you really want to do... Etc...]
Custom ROM's can also c ome with differnt themes like you inquired. They can com completly set up or come completely base. It all depends on what you want to download.
My Carrier is Sprint,
I am fairly happy with the phone as is
My only gripes are that:
it is not as responsive going from app to app as I would like
some of the apps I will never use, like the Sprint music store...
I love to diddle and play with my hardware
I do like touch-flo 3D, I think it's a nice UI, I just wish it was a bit more responsive

Thank you so much for the information scrosler! I also read your other thread about the custom ROM you made. I am very thankful for you taking the time to do this for us VZW allies. I am a first to admit that I am a noob at unlocking and flashing ROMs. I dont doubt that I could simply follow the detailed instructions that you have given us. I just want to make sure that the payoff is worth it.
Is there anyway (this really may be asking too much) that you could post a video so we could see exactly what your ROM looks like and the increased speed. Or even a video of the process? Maybe even some screen shots.
I know I will end up unlocking and flashing any day. I have my phone set up just the way I like it with many beneficial programs installed, but it is not fast enough or responsive enough. I personally don't use the Touch Flo (as sexy at it looks) just because the WinMo UI works a lot better for me and is more responsive.
Again, thank you for being so kind and sharing your knowledge and not demeaning us or being rude for all the questions we ask I greatly appreciate the time and dedication it takes to create something like this and I respect it!

I cant do a video, lack the ability, hehehe... I can however tell you this:
It looks and actis identical to the Stock ROM from VZW except is was built on a new CE OS. Its considerably snapier than the stock ROM in everything from boot up to touchflo scrolling.
Its 99.99% stock. The only differnece is the speed, IE 6, ICS, and Net CF 3.5 is all cooked in. It, unlike all other custom ROM's, has all stock VZW apps and the VZW touchFlow. Its a straight rip from a stock VZW leaked ROM. The details ont he ROM and the kitchen used are in the new thread.
Its just to easy to do.
Download file A, run it. Download file B, run it. Its not that much harder in all honesty.

Awesome Link!!! I just wish they had this same thing for the VZW Version!
Another stupid question...
Well I think this would be the appropriate thread to ask this.
I was wondering if there was any way to put 2 today screens into one instead of having to switch. Basically I am wanting a Touch Flo today screen at the top and the bottom half I would like to have a WinMo today screen with the two quick buttons at the bottom. Is this possible or am I just wanting too much? It seems like the themes for the Touch Flo look much better and I LOVE the black themes.
Any info. would be much appreciated!

Comparison of the various custom ROM's

So since there's only about 5 or 6 custom ROM's at the moment I took the liberty of creating a quick site to compare the ROM's. I put them in a comparison table side-by-side, put a link to download them (off my own site [so this can be used as a mirror]) and put a link to my own personal thoughts/semi-informal review of each ROM and included screen-shots of the ROM (90% of it I took myself).
I wanted to share the link/site with you to see what you think. I'm going to try and stay on top of updates and such, and each page on the site has a way for you to leave a comment. So if you have any suggestions or problems, feel free to comment there (or here). Also, if you want to submit your own review, thoughts, suggestions, etc. the site has a way for you to post it and I can look it over and publish it. I'd love for this not to be a one man show. If you have extensive experience with one of the ROM's and want to throw in your own review, post it there and I'll make it live and link to it in the comparison table.
I know I'm going to get blasted, told how stupid and useless the site is, etc. etc. and I'm prepared for that, but maybe you could also include a quick note on why it's stupid, what I need to add, how better to improve it, etc. you know, constructive criticism. I do know it's ugly and using a crappy default skin, but I was more concerned on getting content in there right now vs the look and feel of the actual thing; I'll get around to it, eventually. Anyways, I'm only trying to help.
http://sgs2.glitchsys.com/
Thank you, this is very helpful to a newcomer to Android. I'll try to find time to read through the reviews, as I want to find the right ROM without the hassle of flashing each one (but I guess you'll never know which one works best for you unless you try it...). The comparison table helps a lot.
Nice compilation! Was worth a read! Thanks for gathering all these into one
This is awesome! Many thanks. I had asked to setup something similar a while back with all the Galaxy Tab ROMs. Never took off. I can definitely see that this could take a bit of work keeping it current. Hopefully folks will help out in that area.
i like the work u did...
Thanks for this! Really helpful to new guys.
Serendipity is at 8.1; added the file to the server, updated the Download link and included his changes in the table. It's all good.
i dont think that site is stupid at all. I think it'll help a lot of the newbies but that takes a lot of work to update. As long as it stays updated, I dont see how anyone can say that its a bad idea.
One issue that the devs MIGHT have is that you saved their ROMs and update files to your own server. I know some devs dont like that (at least some on the captivate section didn't) but maybe thats different, here.
Really nice to see all the listed items in there, I know it would be hard to list them all but but maybe point out in the CM7 section more (if not including all seperately) the Modifications, Theme Chooser, Etc. that are built into CM7 by design without the need for more apps, rom tweaks. Also note that the CM7 camera does not have the same options as stock and how the video recording rate is not the 30 fps as with the stock roms. I am trying to be impartial here but thought I would note that looking at your site would make some think CM7 didn't have much to it, when in fact it has many options and setting built in that are not available to stock roms or how stock roms would need some other changes to get things to work the same. On another note the ONLY downfall I see with CM7 is the contact searching would be nicer to have a letter on the side.of the screen like stock does so I don't have to scroll all the way down to find a contact and would be nice to have speed dial working without another app from the market.
Just trying to point out a few plus's and minuses of CM7 to help you add to your great comparison site.

Nice work -- the only suggestion I would make is that UnNamed's section is huge compared to the others - so unless you are specifically recommending that one, you may want to equalize the columns.
But other than that -- I think a very helpful resource for folks who are new to the phone looking to get a quick comparison of which ROM to try first!
@RockRatt can I use some of your wording in my review? I'll update my CM7 section/review but you wrote a lot of nice ideas.

Of course you can. I am just trying to help out so others can see all the different roms in a somewhat even light as to function and features. I know it is/will be a work in progress and it is looking good.

I'm not sure if Geeklog has wiki features, but if it does maybe you could give some people editing rights in order to help you keep it up to date. Less work for you.
otherwise, excellent work!

[Q] Rom differences

I know everyone says to flash them all and find out what you like but i have some questions...i know the main difference is the UI between them all but what about the things in the background?.....
Performance?
Scripts?
Battery Life?
Features?
Options?
Customization?
Camera/camcorder function (interface/hd video)?
Thanks guys!

I am not trying to come off as a **** so sorry if it seems like that.
its just that for someone to actually answer every one of those questions in depth and compare EACH of our available roms will take a LOT of time for something that can be found out fairly quickly as u said "just flash and try"...
A nandroid before starting will make checking them all out less hasseling if u don't.enjoy them...
But u could also just download the roms and use something like root explorer to go thru the system apps and check system/etc/init.d to see scripts being included and find out pretty much everything u want to know(except battery life...which.is subjective anyways depending on your personal usage preferences making it hard for anyone to really say which has "better" battery....not like we have custom kernels to go with the roms to improve battery/performance so there's only so much we can squeeze out of it)
I would love to sit here and explain the differences between roms on each thing.u ask but the.post would probably be about 10x as long as this one is
What I CAN say about all your questions is I feel like ALL our roms show a nice improvement over the stock equivalent
Thanks! I've been reading a bit on all of them but all I really found was UI differences. That's why I posed the question about behind the scenes. Thanks for the info though.
Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk
And thank YOU for not taking offense
I wish I COULD answer all of those. Lol
But as I'm sure you know each rom has its benefits with the "behind the scenes" scripts/tweaks and such.
the thing about each.of those tweaks is that the dev who put them into their rom as they saw fit because they feel those are the mods that make the most of their rom.
And then on top of that we have a few mods/tweaks we can make (like build.prop edits or tweak those scripts) as WE feel benefits each of us depending on our usage and what we looking.for.
I tend to try and.keep the tweaks the dev instituted tho and altering then slightly sometimes rather than going and say, flashing speedy scripts to replace them. Sure they might benefit some but most of the tweaks in those scripts have usually been implemented somewhere by the dev and.if not then they felt it wasn't really needed to make the rom better. That's just my opinion tho. Some people swear by using certain tweaks across all roms and that's just fine also.
The BEST part about.all of this is that at least we can experiment somewhat to find what we like
now just imagine what would be available to us if we had unlocked bootloader. This would be considered probably THE BEST 3g phone available. But until then we are stuck wondering if we will be.locked in a cage forever. But at least we have.some.nice roms and stuff to mess with
I will say that I really do enjoy Eclipse 1.2. Battery life is alright, which may just be something that is a user or, I D 10 T error. FOr me it has been a learning experience having come from a DX, which apparently is way different haha.

Why upgrade from stock?

I apologize if this subject has been covered before but my searches did not turn up anything. I am an Android newbie with a new Tab 10.1. It seems to work quite well but since the OS allows for easy customization and many people do it, I feel like I am probably missing something. What is there to be gained by moving away from stock? With so many options out there, how does one choose between them?
If there is an article or forum thread that covers this subject in language that newbies will understand, I would really appreciate being pointed in that direction. If such a document does not exist, hopefully someone can answer the questions here.
Visual mods to performance enhancemants are why people tinker with Android ad their devices.
Read as much as you can before you do anything or make any changes.
As far as which is best. That's up to you. Try them all until you find what you like.

Galaxy Task ftw...
I have been running Task's roms since I got my tab. His current rom GalaxyTask v6.3 is as smooth it gets at least until an ICS variety is available.
Link is in my signature.
I think the thing to do is just use your Tab for a while before getting stuck into rooting it, give yourself chance to discover it's shortcomings (if any), if you feel it isn't quite up to par, look around for the most suitable fix.
I've had my Tab since August and I haven't yet felt the need to root it, I do keep looking at the threads in the dev section though, one day I'll get tempted but that's not today.
I'll try and hold out for official updates, unless I get really bored and decide to risk my warranty status.
turn to the darkside of rooting and adding a rom. at first i was nervous but after you get a feel of the roms like tasks roms.. omg there is no turning back. it is like night and day and you'll never want to go back to stock

Aspiring cook

Ok so this is my first post and im hoping its in the right spot! First off my name is TehJibba and ive been messing around with my evo3d sprint cdma for a few months now flashing different roms and exploring them. ive gone as far as installing dsxida's kitchen and fooled around with deodexing and other settings then flashing the results to my phone mostly with success.
So my main goal now is to get info on where to go from here.
What i want to accomplish in the end is to have a fully working evo3d with beats + leedroid + a custom kernel (yet to be decided on atm) As well as removing ALL stock bloatware leaving only whats needed to run the basic sense 3.6 on the 2.89. ics ota. To be honest all i really like of the stock htc widgets is the clock / weather widgets / animations everything else can go as far as im concerened. Eventually id like to port sense 4.1 to it as well (why? why not i like new dont you?)
So i hope that gives you a basic idea of what i want to accomplish. What i need is a few references as to possible hiccups while installing said mods and possible solutions that i might need. Im also in need of a list of evo3d 2.89 ics ota apps that can be safely removed but leave full functionality of the phne Or any insight would be nice along those lines. Be patient and remember we were all noobs at one point!
P.S. I was also wondering if theres a way to compensate the stock 1500mha full battery charge to 3500mha as i recently got an extended life battery
I'm gonna be hoppin back on the development game in a few weeks or so, so if you wanna PM or Gtalk me or anything, feel free because I would have no problem sittin down for a little while and help you sort some stuff out. Plus, it would help me shed some rust before I start toying around again haha :good:
Thank you man ill be taking you up on that offer. Im pretty adept at coding in general so this shouldnt be to hard to pickup

Just so coincidental that I signed on as soon as you replied lol, it's no problem at all. There's not really much you need to know as far as apps and mods and stuff, but actually digging deeper, that's when the fun starts. I'll be available to help probably tomorrow night, and then we can start rollin.
OK So thanks to beneath-a-burning-turtle and his kindness in helping a complete stranger this lil project is moving along nicely. Currently im averaging 490mb free ram, 140mb of installed apps leaving about 1gb free memory, as well as getting around 3600~ on quadrant. Total rom size (so far) is 323mb.
Im still in need of input tho from other experienced cooks, anything insightful or that would be a useful addition or anything really would be nice. So lets hear some feedback! :good: Also if theres anything thats considered a must have inthis project feel free to ask for it
