Missing .lnk file for Outlook Contacts - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

I ran the ClearTemp software and it deleted the .lnk file or whatever it's called for my Outlook Contacts icon. So, I can no longer get into my Outlook Contacts. The icon for Outlook Contacts is gone both in the programs and the Start Menu. How do I get the file back, or create a new file? Where are these files located on the phone? They don't show file extenstions with File Explorer, so it makes it really hard to find anything. I can't even find a search feature to search for files. Thank you for your help and time.

FYI may be easier to install burt ed iContact 6.4.5
it will automatically make one as a back up
much nicer contact viewer

Well, my friend emailed me a copy of his Outlook Contacts.lnk file and I copied it into the Windows Programs folder and my icon came back. iContact actually comes pre-loaded in my ROM and I hate it and want to get rid of it, but I can't figure out how too. I'm using v0.94 and that's the latest version. I just realized you said iContact and not iContacts. Are they two different things? Thanks!

yes and no
iContacts somehow branched off into i think three.
the one i like is Burt Edition.
you should have a config shortcut (or icon as you called it)
go into it and look for a about tab, see which one you have.
If you know which edition you have you could download cab to ppc and run the install once it sees you already have it, it should ask you if you want to remove the install. after that it will ask you if you want it on your mm or your sd card or cancel. HIT CANCEL
If it is not BE you should someday try it. very good. very easy to find someone.

I went into the iContacts settings and there is no about tab, but it says in their iContact v0.8 - supware.net. I got the latest version and I did exactly what you said and did it said it was uninstalling it, and then I hit cancel before it installed the new version. I went back to my contacts and it's still there. Maybe because it's a part of the bios you can't remove it?
I tried to find the version that you said you have, but I can't find it any place. Do you know where you can find it at? Thanks!

Look on the first page of my ROM threads. At the bottom of the Second Posts there is the version of icontact you are in need of. Install if and soft reset. Boom. Back to normal.

Why do I need that version of iContact and what does it do? I'm trying to get rid of iContact because I don't like it. I already fixed the problem of the Outlook Contact icon missing. Is this what you mean?
iContact v0.81 (The version that used to be in my ROMs)
Well, it says v0.8 in the iContact Settings, but v0.94 when I run iContact on my phone.
Thanks!

Thats because of your step in bold buddy. Did you maybe install another version? It says v.81 everywhere for me.. That is what I used to cook into my ROMs.

[SOLVED] Keyboard gone after rooting :(

Ok, as the rooting thread is getting overwhelmed with users not being able to find their correct deviceID, not being able to put java in their %path% or just having problems due to a 64bit version of java or whatever else could go wrong
All other valid questions are getting snowed in their so I thought i might be better to get a new thread to make sure it will get answered
After having my x10 succesfully rooted I no longer have my keyboard on any field, I also tried with long pressing the menu button (which normally would show or hide the keyboard) but with no success . Anybody have a clue how I can get my keyboard back again?
I did enable the HTC_IME btw in the language settings.
I had the same problem, just installed older version, v25 i think, and it works..
Hmmmm for some weird reason it just appeared lol.... I had opened up google search but didn't close as I wasn't getting the keyboard but just had put the phone down for a while as I needed to do some other stuff. When I got back the phone was showing the HTC keyboard and it now opens very quickly every time I go into a field or it at least responds on my long pressing the menu button while I'm in a field

in case it wasn't installed correctly you can also find it in your step4 apps folder from the root package, it's called com.htc.clicker.apk. Copy it to your SD and mount the sd back on the phone and install it from there.
Also make sure HTC_IME is selected in your country settings and text.
Thank you guys, found it in google and installed it. Keyboard is fine.

Toggle switches giving error

Hey guys,
Got an issue with my toggle switches on my today screen (wifi on/off, disconnect data, and flight mode). They were working just fine up until today, so I know that the issue occurred when I was messing with it today.
The error that I get when trying to use the switches says "The file 'JMLComm' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file."
Today, i did three things, one that I'm almost positive had nothing to do with it was added morph gear and a Rom for SNES. The other two were adding Bandswitch (didn't work the way I wanted it to, so I removed it) and added Setup Dial Up Enable Disabler, which didn't cut off the data connection after the time I selected. so I deleted that also.
Any tips or suggestions? thank you
well, since no one can respond to that, how about this.where can I look up to see if that file is still on the phone our just got deleted.
JMLComm should be in the windows directory, a ROM file, so you will need to show all files, size on mine is 45k, attributes RM
There is also JMLTasks.exe, 74k, RM
Neither of them do anything when i try to run them. I believe they probably need command line parameters.
a quick google shows that jmlcomm is associated with enabling/disabling BT and WIFI (which makes sense)
yea, I saw that when I did a search, so im wondering what changed so I cant use my toggles.maybe if I were to reload the file on the phone it would fix it? or maybe theres something blocking it so I cant use it.im wondering how adding those two programs could have done that...

its a rom file, so it is not removeable. you acn copy over it, using some file managers (resco, total commander) or use a cab to instal a copy over it, but the file would still be there 'underneath' the one you add.
Id be more suspicious that its a bad install of cookies home tab (they are the toggles you mean, right?)
I'd probably go for a hard reset and reinstal, but thats me.
But would it take 2 weeks for something to happen? because CHT was the first thing i installed, and everything worked fine
oh no, it will be something that happened recently, but its often easier to start over than to backtrack. Plus rolling back the offending item wont necessarilly fix it.
dang.alright.thanks, and off topic, I know, but when I do a hard reset, what all on the phone was preloaded that will get deleted?
Sounds like one of the things you install used the same file as your problem program. So when it was in stall it over wrote it and when uninstalled it deleted it causing an issue. When you hard reset it will take the phone back to your last flash, what ever was installed on the rom by the cook will be there but anything you loaded after the flash will need to be restored
did you ever find a fix to this? my phone just started doing this!
*edit* If you're using CHT & this happened just reinstall.

[FIX] Re-Registering NookColor with B&N

I hope this helps everyone! I followed the directions for Auto-Nooter particularly the part where it tells you to De-Register your device with B&N. After auto-nootering there did not seem to be a way to relaunch the app that allows you to sync with B&N. Here is how I get re-registered:
Open NookColor Tools
Tap All Settings
Find the options listed "Wireless"
There is 3 options for Wireless, choose the second one in the list.
This will open up the Barnes and Noble starting wizard.
Press Continue with setup, and it will ask you to login to B&N or Create a new account.

I stumbled upon this today too, can vouch that it does work.
Does anyone know why there are multiple "Wireless" entries listed after autonootering in the NookColor Tools?? BTW, there are multiples of some others too.....Thks
If you try each one, they open up different wifi settings menus, one for the quick access from the notification bar, one for the actually settings menu wifi access, and one for the wizard at the beginning.
Does this fix the auto restore that keeps happening ?
If you reregister the device, will it prevent the nook color from auto restoring the software as it randomly seems to do ?

????? Care to elaborate? I dont have this problem.
After rooting my nook, I've registered it to my B&N account like normal, but none of my past purchases show up. It just shows 2 books, the 2 nook manuals. Do I need to refresh the list or something?
Congratulations self, you're blind. Just noticed the refresh icon on the Library screen.

I'm a little confused, I do not see any mention of de-registering my nook in the auto-nooter instructions.
How to Use:
Before you begin:
* To update to 1.0.1 you must do a complete wipe.
* You must update to 1.0.1 to use AutoNooter 2.12.25 Instructions Here.
1 You must already have a registered NOOKcolor
2 You must have a Gmail/Youtube linked Account. IF you used a Gmail account for B&N Registration you should use that one for this process.
3 You must either have dd (Linux) or WinImage (Windows) software.
4 You must have an external microSDCard reader or this will not work. Do NOT use the NC.
5 You must have enough intelligence to follow instructions.
Let's get started:
1 Download Auto-Nooter from here: auto-nooter-2-12-25.img.zip
2 Linux: Unzip and use dd if=auto-nooter-2-12-25.img of=/dev/sdcard
2 Windows: Unzip and use WinImage to "Restore Virtual Hard Disk Image" to your SDcard.
2 Windows Alternative: https://launchpad.net/win32-image-writer/+download
3 Unplug your NOOKcolor from computer. (If Plugged in.)
4 Insert AutoNooter SDcard into your NOOKcolor.
5 Plug the USB cable into your computer and your NOOKcolor. (This will boot up the NOOKcolor.)
6 Your NookColor will reboot when it's done.
That was the hard part, now to the simple stuff.
7 Upon boot unlock your screen.
8 At the Android Welcome Screen skip Sign In.
9 Enable Location Services when given the option.
10 Connect to Wifi and launch Youtube from "Extras".
11 Click the Menu button (The one RIGHT of the Up Arrow).
12 Select "My Channel" and Login using your Gmail Account.
13 Exit Youtube and Launch Gmail from "Extras".
14 Sync your Gmail Account and Exit. (If it fails to sync that is fine.)
15 Open up Market and Accept Terms and Service.
If you made it this far your nook should be successfully Rooted. Go Download an App to make sure.
16 Enable Non-Market Installs by running the NookColor Tools App.
17 If your Youtube fails to launch Uninstall and Reinstall Youtube from /data/app
18 Go to Settings > Device Info > SdCard > UnMount > Format
Complete Wipe:
1 8 Failed Boots > Wipes /system
2 Factory Reset > Wipes /data
You must do both of these to completely wipe clean your NOOKcolor.

Thanks.

I have this problem as well. Almost immediately after updating and booting into the pre-rooted 1.1 V2, the Nook reboots and loads the regular 1.0.1 software. None of my previously installed apps show up, but I still have Market (non-working), Rom Manager, and Root. Luckily, I made a recent backup and can get my stuff back, but it's on the 1.0.1 software. I still haven't figured out how to keep 1.1 V2 installed, and I'm not sure if my 950MHz UV/OC kernal 'stuck' either. Someone suggested 'Freezing' Device Manager in Rom Manager, so I'm going to give that a shot.

I have the same problem. Its SO annoying. Constantly back and forth with the resets. I was the one who suggested "freezing" device manager but this is not an acceptable solution. I want to be able to use the B&N store also =/
I've actually decided to give up on this update for now. I'm staying on the 1.0.1 rooted software. Every time I upgrade to 1.1v2 it auto defaults to an older version. "Freezing" device manager did not help.
[UPDATE] So I gave it one more shot. This time I removed all the permissions of any file in system/app that seemed B&N related. Rebooted. Then I used Rom Manager to update to 1.1V2. So far no issues, and I can use the Library feature. I'm still afraid to click the "lend book" and I think I will completely remove it as soon as I figure out how (there doesn't seem to be a matching apk in system/app).

FYI, I found out the random resets are caused by Titanium Backup. When you restore system settings with it, I think the AndroidID gets changed and then it resets. I restored from stock, installed Titanium Backup, restored ONLY the apps NOT data and I'm set.
I can goto the shop or use Lend Me with no issues.

Somehow I do not think this is the issue... Since this is happening to me and I do not even have Titanium Backup. Everytime I turn on Wifi it reregisters my Nook... So frustrating.
I am thinking of purchasing a used NC @ v1.1
Do I simply create or new B&N account? Or is there a de-register -> re-register process? Or is this something that the seller needs to do?
TIA

[SOLVED] How do I find the correct GTalk.apk for my phone?

I'm using Axura - Moped/FishmanMod v1 now. Really like it, has made my Vibrant usable again. However, I miss GTalk. I've searched google and these forums but I'm not able to find the .apk for a froyo ROM specific to my Vibrant and the one I attempted to install failed. Can anyone direct me toward the correct .apk for Google Talk?
Also, do I need to force it as a system app with Root Explorer?
Thank you.
When you way it failed, what did it do/say? Just not work/open or did it say something like Parse Error?
Yes, you need to install it in /system/app and set the permissions as well. The reboot. Try again with the apk that you have and let me know if it works. If not then I can upload one for you tonight that should work on Froyo.
Thank you for the reply. When I try to install the .apk I have, it goes through the normal screen, telling me what the app has access to. I click install and it comes back with "Application not installed."
I will see if I can find some instructions to do it with Root Explorer and see if that works.
Root Explorer method is easy.
Just copy the apk from where you have it and go into /system/app and paste it there. After it is pasted, go back to it and long-press it until you see permissions come up. Your permissions should be the first column all checked and then the top 1 of the next 2 columns checked. (The bottom 2 on columns 2&3 are left unchecked). Then exit out of RE and reboot.
Since it is a /system/app it can't be installed through the Package Installer like a normal app. It just isn't coded like that.
Thanks! That did it! I really appreciate the help. And especially thanks for not making me feel dumb. The Hubs (sorry, can't remember his nick here on XDA) has had a crummy day at work and I'm glad I don't have to ask him to help me figure this out.
No worries, I've helped you before I think. I recognized your username (pretty distinctive). I am usually hanging out in Gen and Q&A most of the day to help out (I have a job that I can do that in). You can GTalk him now and tell him, I hope his day gets better.
Can you edit the topic and put a Solved in it? Go to your OP and click edit, then Go Advanced and there you can put it in the title.
The thread title has been edited. Thank you. Yes, you did help me before with some issues with my Vibrant. The poor thing was on its last leg but we tried this ROM and it's been good so far. After adding back apps one at a time I believe Zedge was the culprit as I started having issues immediately upon reinstalling it.
I've already let him know via GTalk that it's working again. He said he remembered you from when he had his Vibrant. Thanks again!

[Q] Google Search widget

I have always kept the Google Search widget on my homescreen. I have a son who is curious about everything, so I'm often searching things, and I used to touch the mic button to play a song from Google music or dictate a text.
I've had a lot of trouble with my Vibrant lately and have finally gotten FishmanMod Blue 2.2 Frankenstein Slim to work for me. However, I have lost the search widget. When I try to add it from my widget list, all I get is an empty box that says and does absolutely nothing.
I went to Google Play and it said that Search isn't compatible with my device. (The photos looked like Google Now...)
I have tried searching the forums, and came across an .apk that I tried. I moved it from my downloads folder using Root Explorer into the /system/apps folder and rebooted.
Still the same result.
Can anyone please point me in the right direction? Thanks for reading!
when you found the widget and moved it in ROOT did you change the permissions then reboot or just moved the file and reboot ?

I changed the permissions. Basically what I did was looked up the thread where Woodrube said how to install GTalk as a system app. I copied those instructions in order to move this .apk. The permissions I set are:
Owner: Read, Write, Execute
Group: Read
Others: Read
None of the special permissions are ticked.
you dont need execute bro just check read on owner/group/others and check write for owner reboot and check again also you made sure you deleted the other one that was kinda there but not working ??

Reset the permissions as you suggested. I looked for anything else with "google" and "search" in it and found nothing besides what I knew I had moved there. Rebooted, same results. I only see "search" in my widget list and it is still an empty box.
Okay, looks like I'm just completely missing the Google Search apk. I installed a 3rd party widget from the Play Store, and touching the mic activates the voice search (because I have it installed) but tapping anywhere else on the search box does absolutely nothing.
I need to look for the Google Search app itself. Any ideas on how to get it? I can't find it at all on Play store. I need it for 2.2.
im so sorry mama excuse my stupidity and do you have any other 2.2 roms ? you can open up the rom on your phone or computer and open the system folder and look for the google search apk are you familiar n doing that again my apologies

No problem. Please don't apologize. I fully realize and accept that I'm totally in the minority here. No big deal at all. Just struck me as funny.
That's a really good idea. I'll try that. I've got the voice search shortcut on my homescreen, and I can use that. I just dislike change.
Hopefully all this will cease to be an issue when I get my new phone. The Hubs (DigitalMonk) thinks I should wait for the new Nexus to come out on Tmo. I'm not at all sure I don't just want to stick with what I know and go with the SGSIII.
I feel you honestly I love the nexus but I always feel like those phone are never giving enough power etc for they to be top dollar phones and the last 2 had problems with the bootloader and recovery being wiped and volume /power buttons becoming disabled ill stick with what you know samsung phone might be plasticy but there solid IMO but if you was to get the new.phone its like trying to keep up with buying jordan lol stick to something you like not because its new but because its easier for you
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda app-developers app
Okay first I need to know what Android version you are running. If you are running 2.x, you can only use the old Google SearchBar Widget version 1.x. Do not try installing Google Now to Android 2.x because it is incompatible. You can extract the Google SearchBar Widget from gingerbread "gapps.zip" files: http://goo.im/gapps
If you are running ICS roms and want to use Google Now, there are modded version to make it working.
If you are using Jelly Bean roms, then you should be able to install Google Now from the Market.
If you are installing Google Now to Jelly Bean by manually moving the apk file to /system/app, the app needs a lib file called "libgoogle_recognizer_jni.so". However, the name of this file can change depends on the version you are using. This file is located in the \lib\armeabi-v7a\ folder within the apk file itself, it needs to be extracted and moved to the \system\lib\ folder. If you install the apk using conventional method, it will automatically extract this lib file to the necessary location, so you wouldn't have to worry about all this.
It's not recommended do this manually, but by either flashing the patch, or installing it from the Play Store.
Here is the patch for ICS roms: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1835199
The patch for Jelly Bean roms is located at SlimRoms website in the addons section.
