Hi I am a newbee in tis forum - yesterday i installed the CleanBlack2ReloadedOffice in german on my XDA Star - it worked perfectly ...
Today i wanted to upgrade the radio from Nike_Radio_1.58.16.27 to the better one Nike_Radio_1.58.21.23_25.65.30.04S_Modded.
Result: the flashing stopped with 99% an now i am stuck on this boot-screen and my phone is a brick :-( It says:
RUUNBH
NIKI300
SPL-1.16.0000
CPLD-4
I tried several things to get the phone alive - but nothing helped every trial failed with the grey screen and a 0% on it - some 5 Minutes later aborted with error. What can I do?
Thanks in advance to any helpful hint!!
tip
It seems that you have not installed hard spl first
Hi 2alive - quite right. I copied the sspl-1.16-nike.exe on the device and started the Update. It stuck on 99% - ended with an error.
But now i am not able to install hard spl or anything else? I allways get the 0%-Load-Screen on the device and after 10 Minutes an 262-Error.
Is there hope to get this device running?
Any helpfull advices? Thanks in advance
Usually Device Boot Loader original can be updated using ROM Upgrade Official from HTC website. Just try it and hope it will restore your OS. When you are in Bootloader screen and connect to PC using USB Cable just run the ROM upgrade official setup and just click the status connected to ActiveSync (although you are not connected to ActiveSync coz you are already connected to USB) and go next and update, It still can upgrade the ROM.
FYI : Just Remember Original Bootloader can not upgrade Radio or ROM from Modded / Custom ROM setup thats why you need to install HardSpl to allow upgrade from Modded version.
Thank you lion _snake1 for your Tipp.
I tried now to load every shipped original rom - but the Rainbow-Start-Screen does not go away. Is there any other chance to get this device again working? Did anyone made experiences with this strange behavior?
I really would be glad, if there is a "howto" get into a working communication process between my "Pc" and my phone?
Is the ROM Upgrade Official setup can run 100% and finish ?
If it can then maybe the problem is in your Bootloader.
Maybe you can go to forum section "xda-developers - General discussion - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking" and start the same thread since that section is special for Upgrade and Mod and i think some of experience people usually online there.
hi lion_snake1
thank you for your advice - there i did not found any solution till now. I tried to load everything - but all originals or mods will stand on a grey screen with 0 % an dont move- then the error comes with 262. I already tried to boot via sd-micro-card - did not work - the device blinks a moment - as if it is searching fo rsomething and sticks again in the rainbow bottloader ....
i am looking for a step by step help for mismatched romupdates.... also with commando-lines-hacks....
Hi,
Sorry to stat a thread on this but can't find anything similar.
I've flashed a lot of ROM's prior. Thought I was fairly comfortable with it.
Currently, I have EnergyROM 6.5 and wanted to try another.
I can establish the connection with phone/computer (1st beep), then the second beep happens (activesync). Then I run the AthenaWrapper and it starts. It restarts the phone. I hear the first beep but never the second. The progress bar stays at 0% and eventually there is a communication error.
This happens with NATF's 6.5 ROM as well as the stock ATT rom.
Any suggestions on fixing this problem?
PS - the 'contacts' button at the bottom of the home screen... are those remapable? I have a mandatory program (Good Messaging) which has its own contacts program. Once I've installed it, the contacts button goes to it instead of the built-in contacts. That's not what I want.

I had no idea what "Athenawrapper" was until I Googled Athena. The good news is I've solved your problem. The bad news is that you have a PEBCAK
error.
"Athena" is an entirely different piece of hardware from a Raphael , so it's RUU WILL NOT WORK with a Raphael. Frankly, I think you're lucky you didn't succeed in bricking the phone completely. You need to use the RaphaelWrapper to flash a Raphael.
On the off chance that you actually have an Athena, and are trying to flash it with a Raphael ROM, then you're still begging to have your hardware bricked. Most ROMs are not compatible outside of the hardware for which they are written.
You need to:
Figure out what hardware you have.
Go to that bulletin board.
Read the sticky threads there to learn how to flash properly.
Get to work.
Hi,
Well your explanation makes sense... however, the stock ATT ROM I downloaded from the raphael ROM development section and have successfully flashed a prior Fuze with before (I had to return it for warranty). It is the same file that worked then, that is not now.
But it is not working now AFTER I tried the NATF ROM which I'm pretty darn sure I directly downloaded from a link in the Raphael section. Perhaps it was a misguided link or something, and then it damaged the phone such that previously working ROM's now won't flash?
Chris
addendum...I know for sure it was the NATF ROM from Raphael section...
it is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=539513
If you did a HardSPL to load NATF's ROM, then you cannot flash back to the OEM ROM without first removing HardSPL.
So (and this is the second time in as many days ), here's my recommendation:
Myrddin Wyllt said:
Here's my recommended procedure:
Back up your PIM data, if needed.
Remove HardSPL.
Run your service provider's ROM installation.
Install HardSPL.
Download the NATF ROM (YES...DO IT AGAIN)
Flash the ROM.
Hard reset when you get to the screen alignment.
Yes, I know I'm yelling, but that's because you don't appear to be paying attention.
It would also be helpful if you'd put your device info in your user signature.

Re-downloading the NATF ROM ensures that you don't have a corrupted copy.
Myrddin,
Interesting name, how do you pronounce that?
1) I learned from you today about the HardSPL having to be removed. That I did not know, so thank you.
2) Back on the computer I flash with, I confirmed the wrapper files... first line does say Raphael Wrapper, under that it says Athenawrapper, then under that it says LSD creations.
3) I'll assume since you quoted your previous advice, the yelling and not paying attention comments were not directed at me
4) I'll do what you instruct master!
That's why we like the wise sages of the forum!
chris
It's Welsh, and it's pronounced Merlin, most of the time (Merthin is more accurate, though).
No, the yelling was not exactly directed at you, just at newbies everywhere. Take no offense, I merely wanted to place a great deal of emphasis on certain aspects of the process. It helps us help you.

Hi,
Well, somehow I managed to get back to the stock ATT Rom. I'm not sure how to remove HardSPL specifically as searching that topic doesn't bring up any specific threads (at least in the Raphael forum).
I thought since I had got the ATT rom to work, I coul ddo a 6.5 ROM, but I'm running into the same communication error I had before.
Very specifically, everything starts up fine. It causes my phone to restart.
The USB connection noise happens, but then I never get the activesync alert noise, so the download indicator stays at 0% and I get a communication error.
If I just plug my phone into the computer, it starts up activesync just fine.
Any suggestions? And if it is HardSPL, where's the instructions to remove that?
Thanks again,
Chris
Well shoot,
It must be my lucky day.. I did find some instructions for hardspl, did that.. and I think things are about to be working...
Nevermind on the last post for now!

Hey everybody,
My phone is stuck in an infinite restart loop when i tried to revert back to the original rom without replacing the hardspl. Is there anything that can be done for that?

Most often this is the result of a bad flash or a corrupt ROM. Try putting the phone in Bootloader mode (see the wiki for instruction), and download the ROM again (delete your old copy to avoid confusion). Try the flash once more, and don't forget to do a hard reset when you get to the screen calibration the first time.
UPDATE REGARDING FLASHING OF HARDSPL - Specifically the error message "we have detected that you appear to already have unlocked another device"
- contact with the creators of HSPL has been established.
- If you have EVER used HardSPL before (on any phone BUT the one you're trying to flash) you will need to request another "license"
- OliNex will provide up to 2 or 3 licenses, but more than that is deemed commercial and you will have to purchase them thereafter.
- If you are sure you have NEVER flashed HardSPL before, then please standby until I get more information from OliNex, regarding steps we can take to resolve any conflicts.
- more to come.
Dear all,
i mentioned to some people a while back that I could send them detailed instructions via PM, helping them install their first custom ROM (available from our many fine cooks and chefs here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=486)
Now, quite a few have been pm'ing me since, asking for help, so i thought i'd make a public post for all those who are wanting to flash their phones, but are scared or uncertain of making that first step.
SO, in as simple a way as possible, here we go:
INSTALLING HARDSPL 1.83:
(note: YOU CAN NOT INSTALL HardSPL via SD Card!!!! YOU HAVE TO USE ACTIVESYNC via USB!)
- Make sure your phone is fully charged and your data backed up!!!
- Download HardSPL 1.83 from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=520312
- the page i linked does contain instructions, but i'll summarise:
1) connect your phone to your pc using ActiveSync (NOT the DiskDrive connection)
2) Make sure you have an active internet connection
3) run Topaz-HardSPL_V5_00R5.exe from your PC and follow the steps HardSPL prompts you with (incase your antivirus says something, trust me, there is no virus)
4) Press OK when asked to wait
5) everything will continue automatically (if an error pops up, STOP and mail me with your error)
6) you will see your phone jump to a tri coloured screen eventually. anything displayed on screen will be automated (again, any errors here...well let's hope you don't get any)
7) Your device will automatically reboot and you have HardSPL 1.83
Now, let's make sure it installed correctly!
- switch off your phone.
- hold down the Volume - button (minus/volume down) and press the power button. This will take you to the famous Bootloader mode. Here you should see the word Olinex somewhere. If you do, YAY, softreset your phone (the little red button under the battery cover)
- if NOT: send me a message
!!!IMPORTANT!!! You only have to do the HardSPL installation ONCE After completing the above, you can simply proceed with the following steps from now on.
OK! Now you have the means to install the ROM you want!
Step ZERO: - Connect your phone via activesync -> open My Computer -> double click on your diamond 2 -> You will now see two folders. One is internal memory, the other is your storage card -> right click on your storage card -> properties -> look for the words FAT 32 -> If it says that, proceed with "Choose your ROM!!!" below.
If it DOESN'T say FAT 32, then do the following:
- close that window and right click on your storage card again. Now click format (REMEMBER TO BACKUP)
- select FAT 32 as your File System (NOT NTFS) and then click format
- once that is complete, you may proceed with the next steps below.
Choose your ROM!!!! (I am a Dutty fan, so that's the first one i'm going to recommend...however, the method of flashing stays the same)
Once you have downloaded your chosen ROM, make sure you have the following files: TOPAIMG.nbh and TopazRUUWrapper.exe
there are TWO ways of flashing: (again, please make sure your phone is fully charged)
Method one:
- Copy the TOPAIMG.nbh file into the ROOT directory of your storage card (NOT onto your phone). (Root directory means as soon as you double click on the storage card, THAT place, that's the root directory...some people call it base directory)
- switch off your phone and enter bootloader mode (read how to in the HardSPL section above)
- You will now come to a white screen with blue writing.
- It should tell you that you can continue flashing by pressing the power button.
Once that is pressed, you sit back and wait till your phone is flashed!
watch this for help: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbRboNeo2XE
(credit to wadialdoor)
Method 2:
ALTERNATIVE WAY OF FLASHING YOUR ROM WITH RUU.exe
- Turn off your device by using the Power Button
- Go to Boot loader mode. Push and hold Vol. Down and press the Power button.
- Connect your device to PC (with activesync, yes it works even if your phone is not "fully" on)
- Run the TopazRUUWrapper.exe and follow the screen instructions.
Whichever method you choose, once you get the message that everything was successful, open your battery cover and press the red reset button once. THEN, as soon as you have entered your pin code and your phone is on, switch it off
Now hold volume up (+) AND volume down (-) and press the power button. You are thereby doing a "Hard Reset".
Once that is done, CONGRATULATIONS! your new ROM is ready to go!!!
I hope this proves useful to some!

Thanks.
great job. it will be very helpful for the first time flashers

Do not forget your silk underwear and trenchcoat!
Seriously though, this is a great simple guide for newbies like me. I'm still in the process of exploring the standard WinMo 6.5 as well as Manila, trying to decide what I want as it is and what I want differently.
Hey guys, if you are having trouble with some of the content in this guide, please check out my other "pre-guide guide" over here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4963913#post4963913
also, if you have any questions, you can post them THERE (above link) as i would like to use that post as a Q and A place (and not my inbox )
Thanks for all the help, ive sucessfully installed my first ROM
Very helpful, The pre-guide and this.. both helped a LOT.
Thanks
One more thing, do i have to do the HardSPL 1.83 flashing part everytime i want to install a new ROM, or is that enough if its done once, and then only do the RUU.exe from the pc?

the answer to your question: NO HardSPL is done and over with, you only have to do it once. I will update this in the guide, to reflect the once off HardSPL'ing.

i will update this too.
Excellent guide, I wish I have seen it before flashing my first ROM, it is always comforting to have a step-by-step guide to follow even if the process is quite simple.
After some research on xda, I have followed the same steps you mention, and the ROMS are working perfectly, so I guess I have done it right....still there was some anxiousness at the end of the flash that is not mentioned in your guide: HardSPL stop telling flashing the ROM went OK, but never reboot....basically, to reboot it i am forced to use the soft reset button behind the back cover, all the hardware buttons including power button are not responsive. This is worrying for a first timer and should be mentioned somewhere (or is it just me, the normal behavior is auto-reboot?)
Other thing worth mentioning in your guide is the hard reset after a flash: you may add that it s advisable to do, and explain how to do it (power off, then power up while holding volume-up AND volume-down pressed simultaneously). This has taken me 2 customs ROM to figure out ;-)

not all custom ROMs require a hard reset. i've almost never had to do it.
but i digress. i will update as recommend by all

Performing an immediate hard reset upon completing the initial flash is something I almost never do. However, I continue to recommend it to people who flash my ROMs since I have had it solve some issues in the past.
-Edit-
I'm gonna move this thread to ROM Development since it centers around flashing ROMs. I have "stuck" your roll-up thread leading here.

Hi all,
I will be a new htc owner next week and i'm trying to enter this htc world to be ready as soon as i get my toy (topaz)
My topaz is not blocked to any operator and my question is: Do i need to use Hard SPL 1.83 to flash for the first time considering the device is unlocked???
Thanks
PS: i'm sorry for this questions but i really didn't find any docs for beginners!!
Have a device blocked to an operator means that you only can use a SIM from that operator, it's not related with unlock to flash cooked roms, or HTC roms not provided thru Serial Number download from HTC Site
HardSPl is allways required to flash any other rom, please read the 1st posts where an explanation is stated, and as no relation at all with SIM Block
Happy flashing

Thank you for your answer, i was confused with so many threads and information. It is in fact a little bit difficult to enter in a world like this. I own an Asus P750 and in related websites of Asus sometimes after a mouth no new posts if you now what i mean
So here it is the opposite, it's good but i have some years in disadvantage to update.
If i will post some stupid questions, so be it!! It's my beginning!!
Again thanks to reply.

Thanks bros for your introduction on flashing a ROM (this is particularly useful for newbie like me in reducing the problem encounter~)
1 more question..i knew that hardreset will rest all the things and revert my phone like it is released from the factory, so what is the initiative to have it hardreset after i flash a new ROM? will my newly flashed ROM got "flushed" away after this hardreset?
Thanks again!!
h9922293, doing a Hard Reset will only reset the ROM you currently have installed. It doesn't (and can't) reset to your original ROM that the phone came with, because that ROM is long gone.
Think of it as switching your pc off, then turning it on again, to find all your programs and settings have gone back to original, but your modified windows xp/vista/7 is still there.
that make sense?
Hi guys,
First of all, if this is in another thread please just link me but i couldnt find one
I tried to install a winmo 6.1 radio on my touch dual, but it only had 6.0 on it in the first place. I ran the sspl program, but whenever i run the romupdate utility the progress bar appears then the program just says an error and to try restarting. This has happened a few times and i'm getting desperate now.
Thanks for any help
- First copy SoftSPL to your device, run it, then install HardSPL..
- Check the radio section for more information..
- Don't worry, everything you need to know is on the board.
- Do some research before you start! ( very important)
- Take some time to go though the manuals.
- Don't try to skip a step or it will fail and possibly brick your device..!
Hi all,
I've got a problem with my hermes phone which I can't solve by my own I think :
My device gets stucked while booting. It just shows a "htc smart mobility" screen and displays the various red numbers on the bottom for some seconds (as usual I think). But it's not going any further (waited for about 20 minutes).
I flashed the "Hermes.DarkVisions.v5.17.23017.Manila" rom over my exisisting "Schap's 4.22" rom a few hours before. The rom was running good. Then I executed the "kill em all" app by mistake, which can be found in the accessory folder as far as I can remember. Then the phone began to work very slowly so I decided to restart it. And now its not really working any more.
By connecting the phone with my pc and trying to flash a new rom, I get the RUU Error "200 INVALID UPDATE TOOL" - what does this mean? The auto detection of the current bootloader obviously doesn't work due to no running windows mobile.
Is there any chance to flash the phone without a running windows mobile? Or what else can I do to get the current rom "Dark Visions" running again?
Thanks a lot for your help,
Michael
Press The Power, The ok button (usually found on the left side) and The reset button using your pen until this rainbow coloured thing comes up.
Plug it into your USB and then reflash your ROM, also don't forget to upgrade your radio as you will need it to stabilize your custom ROM which you will find under wiki part of this forum. Just search "Hermes Radio" and click the first thing you see.
Now your device should be back to life again.
