Hello,
I've got my TyTN in europe (ROM 1.18.256.104) and my "usb" car charger is not working (charge sometime but ONLY if my TyTn is switched off....not usefull for GPS...)
I've tried another one same problem...restested with my 9100 : ok .
Is it due to the charging load ???
Anyone experiencing the same problem ???
Cheers
André
If I remember correctly the 9100 used an 800mA charger and the TyTn uses a 1A charger. That could be your problem.
hello,
same problem, but charging work on laptop (normally laptop is unable to offer more than 500ma).
I've read an article with C500 where charging work when pin 4 of the usb cable was linked with gnd. Is the same problem with Tytn ?
cheers
Tom
yep, had the same problem too with a standard charger with usb cable.
the charger output was 500mA. it stopped charging after a few seconds.
Recently i bought a Brodit carholder with the charger included. This charger has 1000mA output and its charging without problems.
So you need at least a 1000mA(1A) charger, otherwise it will not work well.

Thanks Luminus for the Reply, But are you sure there is no electronic part added on this car charger ? :?
Strange enough, both my car charger and USB Mains adapter (1A output) (which I was using for O2 Mini and Dopod 818Pro without any problem) was charging fine on my Dopod 838Pro, but the unit had a problem and I was given a new unit. This unit now does not work with my car charger nor the USB Mains adapter.
Looks like a trip down to the service centre again!
it was a cigarettelighterplug adaper with a usb output, with a regular usb/miniusb cable. the adapter was 500mA.( input 12V/output/5V)
it was a complete kit. you could use it for anything you want.
I only attached the TyTN to this adapter.
the adapter couldn't hold it, the amps exceeded the 500mA and stopped loading. the adapter still works on other devices.
the brodit has the same type of adapter, only with a fixed cable on it and 1000mA. this works perfect.
thats why i think that you need a 1000mA one to get it charging.
Hello,
Perhaps true perhaps not...
I used an official Qtek charger -> 1A ..it work
But not sure that due to the 1A because tried to use a self powered USB Hub and it work too ... I will check the official Qtek car charger (if nothing specific)
I use several chargers. i notice that sometimes, if a charger will only charge the device when switched off, i soft reset the device and then it will charge when on. strange problem. the problem of not charging when on, also occurs with chargers that for sure have over 1 amp.
Same problem here......tried to use the mini usb charger I got with my Leadtek BT GPS mouse......
Sometimes it will charge.....sometimes not....
Problem seems to occur when I switch the device on....ie receiving a phonecall or a textmessage....
It then stops charging only to resume after the phone goes back into stby mode....
Weird.....
Danny.
I have the same problem. I have HTC TyTN and 1A car lighter charger with normal USB cable.
Charging from normal, regular charger works. Charging from computer's USB works. Charging from car adapter works only sometimes.
I've tested about ten different car chargers, including one 2A - still nothing.
I've done factory reset of TyTN - after reset it was working for two days.
I have installed only few essential for me programs and no tweaks.
Cable is tested and working.
It makes no difference if I connect device turned on or off. It makes no difference if I reset device connected.
I have no more ideas...
I kept having the same problem but I think I've solved it.
I went into a T-Mobile shop and bought the 'official' car charger for T-Mobile SDA/MDA and I haven't had the problem since.
I've no idea what it's current rating is, because it has no relevant markings on, but it does get pretty warm in use!
help
I am really confused.
I have the sync wire that came with my device. It has stopped working as a charger from the laptop and I can;t active sync. I can however, de-activate the usb link and use the cable to activate my phone as a modem for the pc, so in theory it works at some level.
I also have another lead which is a compact one and it is giving me the same problem.
Both worked until this week so it isn't a case of them not being compatable.
Any ideas. I depserately need to sync. I can charge from the plug so thats no problem.
ahh
I have repaired actve sync and it seems to be ok now. I have no idea what happened.
Does anybody charge their TyTN in car via a usb car charger. I use a usb car charger for different devices: Bluetooth headset, gps reciever...
I also used it to recharge my Blue Angel.
Unfortunately I can't charge the TyTN. Has anyone had the same issue?
The charger says that it can charge 1Ampere. The original home charger is also 1 Ampere, so I don't understand why it doesn't work.
Have tried it with two different usb car chargers and both have the same problem: It charges only if TyTN is turned off. When I switch it on then the red charging light turns off.

I had similar problems except I didn't need to swithc the pda. I saw the usb charge couldn't charge completly or it was very slow to charge if I had screen with light or TomTom running.
I solved using a diferent charger, that generates 220 volts. It has 140W and costs around 40 euro.
Do you have a link, a picture or a brand name to this product?

Same problem.
I was told by the dealer that it's a matter o cable (the pins in the cable)
the one sold with the device is fine just to sync and charge from pc, but can't charge through car adapter.
I'm bought a new cable (arriving next week): it's a double cable, one side for pc, other side for charging.
if it works, I'll post..
bye
I'm afraid to tell you that your new cable will not work. You were not well informed. I am sure that it is not a cable problem, but a charger problem. According to me the power output expressed in Amps (Ampere) is not strong enough even though it says that it's 1 Ampere as the mains charger. Those cheap chinese made chargers are not strong enough for the TyTN. That's why it charges when the TyTN is switched off but as soon as you switch it on, the power output from usb car charger is not enough.

mmhhh, I'll wait the new cable, hoping it works ;.)
the fact is that with original cable the car adapter doesn't charge even if the device is off..
same thing with a 220V usb adapter.
only the original kit seems to work..
I'll tell you in a few days
btw: both adapter are chinese ;-)
Nope, Lio is right on this one. The car charger simply doesn't supply enough juice to charge the TyTN. O2 Exec users have had this problem for ages.
I use the charger bought from the Orange shop for the spv c500. Works fine, if a little slowly.
There are strange things happening!
The USB cable should not enter in to the equation as USB is USB and the pins should be wired correctly.
Here is what I have found.
If charging in the car all is ok until the power is cut, then it only charges whilst off until the TYTN is soft reset. This looks to me like there is a software / powercontroller confilct. It is a little confusing but see the scenarios below;
Soft reset TYTN, leave it off. Plug in to cigarette charger, turn TYTN on/off all is fine.
Turn off TYTN and unplug, all is fine, plug back in (TYTN off) will still charge when TYTN on.
Turn TYTN on, unplug, will not charge whilst on anymore until soft reset but will charge whilst off.
This is the same if I turn the ignition to power the lightere socket.
However, another spanner in the works, if I pull out the charger even with the device off and re-insert it it stops charging until soft reset.
What seemd to work best was to do a soft reset whilst the unit is charging and powered on. After that I was able to unplug, plug in even when the unit was on, turn ignition off/on etc... It only reverted back to not charging when I removed the charger from the socket as it was charging.
These are my findings and I presume each charger will be different.
I presume whatever electronics are in the chargers also causes problems. I have tried 2 USB and one fully wired charger and it is the same with all. I know for a fact that at least 2 of them have overcharge circuitry built in but do not think the 3rd has, I also presume the TYTN also has so perhaps there is some conflict here also.
I do know that there are car chargers specifically for the TYTN so will try one of those and see if it solves the problem. (anyone tried one?)
Anyone with more ideas please let us know.

Thank you for this tip. Now I can recharge in car thanks to u! I tried it and it works.
Great Lio,
Glad it worked. When you get a chance, could you pull out the chrger from the lighter socket as it is charging and let me know if it then stops charging again. I just want to see if the same happens to you as it did to me. It will work again once you soft reset whilst plugged in.
Thanks.

I believe this trick should go to FAQ.
A week ago I visited a lot of shops trying many mains-to-USB charges to no avail. I already had one for MP3 player that didn't work too.
After reading your post, I connected the original charger and SRed. Now that another charger works!
Can't imagine what's the reason but it really works.

Yes, it does exactly like you've described.

Same here.
Is this a bug in the software ?
I found this : http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=138248
I think it should work fine, I am not sure.
"I found this : http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=138248"
Could you contact them and ask about its power rating and whether it is susceptible to the problem/bug?
here I am again.
finally I got the new cable and... surprise... IT WORKS
I used it without soft resetting the device and it worked
I tryed soft resetting the device and it worked
But the biggest surprise of all is that after using the new cable, also the old one started working ..
i guess there must have been a software bug that has gone (hope forever) away.
For those interested, the new cable is a double one: one side is usb, other two sides are charge connector and hotsync connector.

have you got a web link for this one you now have?
friend of mine has apparently got a tytn, I'll pick up a 1.2A USB / Car adapter this weekend and see what happens, hopefully the extra .2A should enable the tytn / exec to charge normally in a car.
Having had an exec for a while I will agree that most 12v/USB adapters struggle with the exec, but hopefully this will make the difference, if it works I will post the details of the company selling them (they are listed for the PSP)
I haven't had this trouble. Just got my new MDA Vario II and I've used it with my old MDA compact mains charger and the car USB charger and it works with no problems.
Tried it with the Vario II on and off and have a charging light on both.
1. Turn off your hermes.
2. Plug car charger to hermes.
3. Turn hermes on. Phone is now charging.
This works everytime for me.
Place this on sticky?
My hermes charges off a el-cheapo USB charger I bought for my Orange C500 years ago... without turning on/off
Lucky you. But to many of us, our hermes do not charge but the way I describe, works for me on all those cooked Rom.
Hm. I just plug mine in too, and it has a cooked ROM....
this works for me on AC charger. Also sometimes works after going into and out of standby a few times.
same here. i just plug mine and im good to go..
Ditto. I think you might have a problem with your charger or phone.
hi guys,
don't know if you've seen it or not, but the car charging problems were explained here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=277742
It's to do with the 4th and 5th pins in the plug of the standard car chargers.
Thanks to PhilipZ and tadzio for figuring it out
They've saved me from the annoyance of constantly having to restart the unit while plugged in.
I PLUg it in then do a soft reset and if u use the speaker phone option u have to do it again i used cooked rom also the phone has a fu_ked problem with the car charger
I've yet to find a USB source that DOESN'T charge my 8525...
Currently used:
USB from PC / Laptop (duh)
USB from Playstation 2 and 3
USB from cable box
USB from HP Printer
USB from iPod adapter
USB from Razr charger
USB from blackberry charger
USB from HTC Charger
USB from Razr Car charger
I think the only USB I haven't tried is on my Nintendo Wii.
Hermes charging from car charger
I have a similar problem with my Arkon, powered car cradle, it charges if the screen is blanked off but if I try and watch my satnav it turns the charger off. I'll try turning off the Hermes before connecting the charger and let you know
I have x01ht, i plug charger on 220V AC to charge my Phone. My phone and battery is very hot( about 40 degree). Then i plug charger on 110V AC to charge my Phone and battery isn't hot. Now i understand why my phone is hot when i plug charger on 220V AC
i have this problem with an ebay car charger, if you dont restart the device before plugging it in it wont work.
ive seen the fix for it just too lazy to change it.
Weird Car Charger Problem
I'm running an i-Mate JasJam with Schaps 3.60a, and after reading all the posts about problems with power output and USB pin configurations, thought I would play it safe and buy the 'official' i-Mate car charger.
However, when I first used the car charger, it wouldn't charge. Then I found that after a soft reset, the charger worked perfectly but as soon as I had synched with my PC, the car charger stopped working again.
My view is that this is a software problem and my workaround has been to use bluetooth for synching, and the USB for charging only. I have been using this configuration for the last few weeks, with no problems either on the mains charger, or in the car.
Cheers
yea same here i just plug in and go

I found out by accident that there is a modular car charger that works with HTC just fine. The beauty of this charger is that it has a modular design: the plug (body) itself that goes into your car socket (12V) and a standard USB cable that plugs on one end to the body and on the other end - to the phone.
It works without any problems on my T-mobile Dash, Cingular 8525 and HTC Artemis. The other important positive moment - it's just about $5 at the internet stores. For example here: http://www.cell-phone-accessories.com/usb-charger.html
There is no reason why a car charger would not power your Hermes. The Hermes does not recognize the difference between a wall charger and a car charger (there is NO difference).
car charger, Arkon cradle and hermes
Hi, well I can happily report that I can now use my satnav on my hermes, as long as I remember to turn off the device before plugging in the Arkon cradle and car charger, I'm a happy bunny now

Got the same problem. Every so often my jasjam will refuse to charge from the car charger and will need a soft reset. When it gets into that state it will:
Charge from the car charger while the display is OFF
Not charge from a car charger while the display is ON
Charge from a wall charger with the display on OR off
After a soft reset all is back to normal...
Hi Guys and Girls,
I was using the Copilot Premium on the S2 in the Car yesterday and it was plugged into the car via a car adapter with usb port. The battery completely drained and the plugged in USB was charging the phone but you could not run the phone with the Sat nav on as it kept switching off.
Is there is a way of powering the phone within the car or is to do with me using the samsung USB cable as I noticed that it recognise the charging process as USB instead of AC? My Touch HD worked with Sat Nav and it was charging the phone as well. Is it something to do with my settings as I find this a strange issue.

Yes - it's to do with the charging process status. USB charging doesn't deliver enough power to maintain battry charge - especially when using power-hungry apps like Co-pilot.
I bought 2 car chargers recently - cheapos from dealextreme, one a Moto-branded one - and was lucky that both are seen as AC rather than USB when plugged in. I recently used Co-Pilot for about 4 hours and the phone charge was maintained.
I'd say your options are either to buy the official Samsung product or take pot luck with a cheapo alternative.
Same story: bought first Energizer charger, that was hit-and-miss. Then got an official Samsung one, no problems at all. Get the official one, it costs, but it's quality.

I had a similar problem, tried two different adapters with 700mA and 2100mA DC output rating. 700mA seemed to work, but 2100mA was much better. I was able to stream tunes over my cellular Data to my car over bluetooth, while on the road using Google Nav, with the occasional calls.
Cheers!!!
P.S. I am using this www[dot]amazon[dot]com/gp/product/B00470C35E
Thank you for the response to my query. Much appreciated. Now I have to find a new adapter.
Hello!
I recently bought a S6 Edge for my little brother (1 week ago).
As he returned from school in the weekend (Boardschool) I surprised him with a fully charges S6 Edge (Left it charging for a day).
As monday he went back to school (They can only use the phones in their rooms) he left it charging monday night)
The phone was not charged teusday morning. (using the original charger and OTG cable).
He tried with his laptop, another power plug and nothing worked.
This weekend now I tried with a Qi charger and it started charing.
After a full night Qi charing his phone is at 100%
The phone doesnt get detected by my computer either. Seems like the microUSB port is broken, but he barely had the phone... And you know how you handle a brand new expensive phone, right?
I checked for dust, nothing changed.
Im not in the mood to send the phone back right now, so I wonder if anyone encountered this problem and maybe fixed it.
Thanks,
PV-
same thing just happened to me..did you find a fix by any chance?
same as you body, but i dident want to go in repair shop because i dont want to open my phone so i decided to buy a wireless charger and is working good until now with a little problem that is a slow way to charge a phone In a mean time if you dont have a wireless charger try to turn off your phone and plugged in charger repeat this until it works because my S6 sometimes it works sometimes not (alternative buy a battery case)... hope i was helpful for you, have great day.
