How to upgrade from WM5 TO WM6
To upgrade your prophet to WM6 I recommend that you first of all downgrade to the NVID version of WM5 AKU2.2 and get the latest Active Sync:
1. Download the NVID(no vendor) AKU2.2 rom for WM5 here :http://rapidshare.com/files/17208693/RUU_Prophet_220734_2207114_024721_NVID.exe YOU CAN USE Step1 of PdaMobiz or PDAViet Temp INSTEAD OF NVID(no vendor) AKU2.2 ROM...
2. After it has been downloaded get the latest Active Sync from Microsoft.com
3. Install active sync, you might need to reboot
4. When your computer has rebooted, run the file from step No 1 . Follow the steps, remember that it can take some time and seem to stuck at 80% and higher, but just wait.
5. When you have done this, your pda will reboot. After it comes with the welcome to windows mobile screen,"Tap Here To Begin",JUST LEAVE IT. In fact don't touch your device before the next steps are finished.
6. Now download one of the WM6 versions( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1279985&postcount=1 )
7. Now find a file named Upgrade.bat,and run it.(you don't have to run Step1 of PdaMobiz or PDAViet Temp,as you have already downgraded to AKU2.2)
8. Wait until the upgrade finishes(usually takes 12-15minutes)..WAIT WAIT WAIT
9. A message will be displayed in the dos box,and it will say that the upgrade is finished etc....etc...,now you HAVE to HARD RESET,to finish the upgrade and enjoy you new WM6!
How to downgrade from WM6 TO WM5
The downgrade process from WM6 to WM5 is pretty simple. All you have to do is to downgrade to WM5 NVID and after that upgrade to the WM5 you want:

NOTICE
If you use a different AKU 2.2 ROM(like PDAViet Temp),you may have two EXEs in the folder you extracted.Be careful and use the one that is made for your device:
FILENAME G3.EXE
is for G3 devices:IPL x.xx.0000, SPL x.xx.000.0 (this is shown when you reset)
FILENAME G4.EXE
is for G4 devices:IPL x.xx.0001, SPL x.xx.000.1 (this is shown when you reset)
RECOVERING FROM ERROR IN STEP 8 WM5->WM6
1. Don't panic
2. Don't panic
3. Unplug the phone
4. Reset with stylus,and keep the Camera Button pressed.
5. A 3 color screen will appear(Bootloader Screen)
6. Connect your device with your PC,and run the NVID(no vendor) WM5 rom.
7. The device will be resetted after RUU(rom update utility)finishes
8. Repeat the WM6 upgrade,from STEP 5..
How to switch or upgrade/downgrade between WM6 versions(for example PDAViet->Trueneytral)
1. First you have to downgrade to WM5 AKU2.2 using the WM6->WM5 guide(some say that you don't have to do that,but i believe that it's better to downgrade first rather than making a simple overwrite)
2. Now follow STEP 5 of the WM5->WM6 guide
Device doesn't connect to PC after flash
If your device doesn't connect to your PC after flash,just enter bootloader(press camera button+while pressing soft reset and hold,until a tri-color screen shows up),and flash the NoVendor WM5 Rom: http://rapidshare.com/files/17208693/RUU_Prophet_220734_2207114_024721_NVID.exe .Then repeat the whole process...

I need to downgrade to WM5, 'couse I cannot boot anymore. After running the setup I get an error that the device cannot be found. I have connected the S200 with the boot loader running.
Edit: Now it works on an "old" WinXP machine.
Huge Problem!!
Ok guys I am having a huge problem. I tried to upgrade to WM6 but when running the RUU and changing the rom, it encountered an error saying the nbf file cannot be installed on my pda phone and now my phone is stuck(i think permanantly) on the bootloader screen.
No matter what I do to try to fix this, IE: restart device, power down by removing battery, try to run the RUU again, nothing helps. Its is really stuck and I really need this cell phone.
PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN.

I followed the instructions carefully, and my phone (Qtek S200) seemed to boot with WM6.0
However, after aligning screen, it tried to initialize the phone with some extended roms, a procedure which failed, and I had to soft reset.
After reboot, it seems to work fine.
Is it?
EDIT: Another thing I noticed is that keyboard is in THAI !!! How can I make US the default? Olso, I have Resco keyboard GR edition. Will this work with WM6?

Is this G3 only, or both?
I'm asking, because in PDAviet's temp file there are two different rom updaters, but in the file linked above there is only one.

i don't know mate.i believe you can use pdaviet's temp instead of aku2.2 nvid...
Another thing I noticed, is that it looses pairing with my bt handsfree...
I am making the pairing, and works fine. However, when at night I am shutting off my hf in order to save battery, the next morning the pairing is gone.
Any solution to this?

You've forgot to do a hard reset after flashing, please read one of the flashing guides.

Hello guys, tanks for a so nice job !
I would like to have more information about the choice of ROM.
I don't want any special feature, just the row wm6.
no programs added, no tweaky today, no bugs, no battery problem, etc etc

Ok Guys, gonna test all you senior moderators / users here and put you to challenge to see if you can help me get my wizard G4 back up and running.
For the past couple of days Ive been faffng about the forums looking for a way to change my g4 WM5 to WM6, after digging in i realised i had to install vmware and put xp on it, so far so good.
After that ive tried every rom (with all their own prepackaged files) and got nowhere, every time i managed to get one that would even get to a percentage bar screen it would go to 100%, restart and nothing changed. I even tried the all new soft spl way but got some error msg saying a .exe was missing.
tonight, i managed to get a ´302´ error and its now stuck on the bootloader screen, my question is:
how can i ´flash´back to normal state from here , doesnt the pda have to be synced in order to flash it again
I hang my head in shame, i managed to mess it up real this time..
My pda rests in your hand gents. id appreciate the help

with soft spl:
when i ran START-sSPL.exe it opens up in cmd and the progress at the bottom doesnt go anywhere but 0.
and shell tools managed to get al the way untill you press OK, when decides to crach..every time.
again, i thought in order to flash these devices to have to have an active sync. but you cant sync things when its showing the red-green-blue bootloader screen...or am i missing something.
more tips are VERY welcome, thanks lads.

shelltool doesn`t crash it hangs only just wait for 30-40 min and unplug ur device and hard reset it will work
aslo on the bottom of bootloader screen u will find USB that means that its connected and it can sync

u can`t flash with shelltool on bootloader mode but u can flash ur official rom using RUU on bootloader
ok here is what u need to do
1- flash ur official rom or "wizard love rom " using RUU in bootloader mode "RUU works under XP only "
2-after flashing ur stock rom flash and u got up and running OS flash using shelltool "works fine under vista "
uhh..
i downloaded the wizard_love rom, it got to 99% then i got the same 302 error message, theres asmallrecovery process you can go though if this is the case. i followed that and the power went off...hopefully its just the battery...
8125 G4 softspl + flash success!
I just went through the same situation with my phone:
Cingular 8125 G4
IPL: 2.25.0001
SPL: 2.25.0001
GSM: 2.25.11
After a failed unlock attempt/flash, I flashed back using the WizardLove rom to get it functioning, then I used the SoftSPL flash to then allow me to upgrade to Octaivoi 5.0 rom.
Octaivoi's 5.0 *running 12+ hours flawless*

hey guys thanks for all the help so far.
recently ive been stuck trying to flash the wizard love rom onto my G4, but today i finally cracked it. For some random reason, the phone didnt like the original wizard love rom described in vippies tutorial ( which i looked at , at the very start, a kick ass tutorial bth), i even went out and bought a new usb cable just incase it on the off chance it was that, nope. I kept getting 2 different error messages do to with the connection. 630 i believe was one of them (which is just a general connection error msg).
but today, after searching for a while i found a customised wizard love rom on a bittorrent site that worked like a charm. so im alln gear´d up with a working pda again ! woohoo
So im back to phase one....phasetwo...get wm6 on it or probably break it again for another 3 weeks in the process.

Nah, i took your adivce and tried to flash that octavia rom onto it...
back to the good old red green and blue screen except this time it doesnt display RUU at the top right hand side anymore...im pretty sure thats a bad thing?

lots of tinkering over the last few days has proven successful.
ive went from having a non working 9100, and trying hard to find a base rom that would flash properly to:
Finding a wizard_love rom and installing it
managing to use soft spl (which god knows why decided to work after the gizillionth time) and flashing a very respectable wm6 rom to it ( Octaivo, thanks for the tip johngalt82)
And..AND!! even getting the HTC_Touch_ Home_Plugin displaying wonderfully
happy as a pig in ****.

I have an T-Mobile Ameo (also known Athena X7500) and i tried the Olipro Unlocker, but the installation didnt finish, at 59% stopped. After that i turn off the device, then turn on, but my device still have a 4 colour screen,red, green, blue and white, it doesnt boot the Windows Mobile, just have the installation screen...
please help
Use olipro's tool again and then flash your final ROM
i tried it many times, but since than my Athena X7500 was dead, the Olipros unlocker doesnt work. The program said: "The Update Utility cannot connect your PDA phone"
In bootloader (coloured screen), does it say anything? if so what? when you try to flash a rom or use unlocker do you get a code? is your memory card out of the slot?

Some others have reported better luck with the shipped WM6 rom if they had trouble unlocking.

the net framework should be on your computer.
what OS is on your computer ?
May be better if you use winXP
did you install an oficial wm6 rom ?

My computer also have the NET Framework 2.0 SP2. And when the flashing didn't work, i also installed the NET Framework 3.5 SP1, but, when i flashing a ROM in my decive, it also went to 100%, but the SPL is still 1.1.
I use a 32-bit Windows XP in my computer.
My T-Mobile Ameo (Athena) is a second hand device, it was used when i bought. But the first user said me, that the original OS was the Windows Mobile 5 in my Athena, but he update from Windows Mobile 5 to Windows Mobile 6.0. He said that he update with an official T-Mobile way.

I saw someone with the same problem as you here awhile back and he was able to fix it. So keep your post alive or read the sticky post under the Upgrade section. I believe that was where I read it.

wen I try to re flash the device , it starts a stops at 1% and follows an error msg !

go to the link below download the ROM for OLD GENE also download a new ROM utty besfen ROM comes with the utty u can also use these roms for ur Gene see 2nd link provided i think ur existing Rom utty is corrupted
besfen has also provided original wm6 u can also try that also

Mr HAREE I tried with the "OLD_GENE_ORIGINAL_WM6" ROM but I am having same UPDATE [300] error..!!!

My cells manufacture date is AUGUST 2008..!!!

as per the ur spl mentioned and mine is the same so urs is a old gene i hope the numbers mentioned is right now try this
1.off the phone
2.take batter out press the power button for few secs around 3-4 secs
3.put battery back into the phone keep pressing camera button and power on the phone this should get u the tricolor screed if u get it good attached USB cable and flash an new ROM with ROm utty
or
press camera button and restart the phone with stylus this should also get u the tricolor
if u down load the besfenROM it also has the Rom utty with the ROm us this one and not the ROM utty u already have with u

4. if it say found new hardware, install usb driver for vista, it is in the package you download from thread to did hard SPL.

Well as I said I tired to update the ROM & I messed up but now used XP & got th e the ROM to its ORIGINAL condition..!!!
I want to update the ROM, I tired all the ROM roms but having the same update 300 error, My GENE is AUGUST 2008 manufactured & has SPL 1.10.Olip..!!!
So I need a proper CID unlocker & the proper BOOT LOADER UPADTE & RUU..!!!!

Is your Gene working at the moment with the .Olip SPL? If yes, then your Gene is already unlocked.
Try any ROM you wish, just make sure that its post says that it is for "Old Gene". You may try a lot of Good ROMs from this forum, I can't suggest you any specific since its against my principle.

try to flash ur device on that tri color screen
if it is unlocked then it will definitely get flashed with any ROM for old gene, and if their is some problem them u probably have a new gene sso try orekfov method to unlock
Why in the world people dont want to read the tutorial properly before flashing, dont you guys give a damn to the phone that you purchased using your heard earned money, doesn't it deserve a little bit of your grey matter?.
First of all, there is no problem in unlocking phone from Vista so i request you guys to not spread this myth. In VIsta, you only need to downgrade your activesync drivers to windows xp ones and everything else goes smooth as pie. If you dont even know how to upgrade your pc drivers even after reading the guide and using the helpful driver update wizard that Windows Vista provides, i advice you to stay away from all this unlocking stuff, this is strictly not for you untill you study how driver updating works in Windows. And all this driver updating stuff is written in the Tutorial as a vital step, still people manage to skip it.
Secondly, if you had given even a little glance at tutorial you would know that if the Olipro SPL doesn't works on a phone, it is a new gene and the Orefkov's method must be used. After using that, phone gets alive right on that moment.
So as always, i wont try to help any futher, this is not a kids forum. If you consider me rude, good for you. But i just can't tolerate ignorance of this level.

@ krazy_about_technology, sorry but I am not a NOOB, i have updated many ROM's but I am using VISTAS BLACK version by AMIT AGARA so I couldn't
update or technically DEGRADE the ACTIVE SYNC, that is the prob with it..!!!
& I have read the whole tutorial almost 10 times but still it didn't help me...
I have tried all old & new ROMs both using VISTAS & XP but my GENE is not getting updated..!!!

Well try on different computer then. Use an genuine, clean copy of Vista or XP and you will succeed.

Hmm... Have you tried using the Orefkov unlocker method? What output is it giving? Try doing it after removing the battery, holding down the power button for 15 seconds and then then putting battery back and restarting phone in bootloader mode. I will try to get more info on this in the meanwhile.

Mods - first time post and im not a regular user so if im breaking the rules i apologise. I have spent hours already trawling the forums, but i am now admitting defeat and I need your help!
My Problem:
I have an x7501 SPL 1.06 0000, WM 5.0, GERMAN OS
I want to upgrade this to WM6.1 ENGLISH
I dont care what the SPL is, as long as it works, is reliable, and wont disable any standard WM functionality
I am not interested in tweaks, hulks, or other (non standard) tricks, i just want to get the device running a stock WM 6.1 rom
That said - if you guys think that going to 6.5 is the best (non beta, no risk) option, then im quite happy to go that route.
$50 reward to the first person who provides the following info IN A FORMAT THAT I CAN UNDERSTAND. im good with computers for a non pro (and can follow instructions , but this is just over my head!
I Need:
1) Link to an unlocker and instructions how to use, that will give me the required SPL (note my SPL is 1.06 - will this require two SPL flash steps??)
2) Link to a stable ROM that retains all windows functionality, and instructions how to use it.
If i find that i used two or more peoples help i will split the reward accordingly!

This will give you SPL 1.2

Unfortunately, the stock-like wm6.5 roms made by michy-prima that ran on spl1.2 are no longer hosted on any sites anymore. I can try to contact him for you and see if I can get a copy directly from him. I will see if I can do that.
Otherwise, you can change your spl to 3.5, which you might as well do anyways, as there are more roms for that spl and even the stock-like michy-prima roms were made in spl3.5 also, so if I can get those, I will get the spl 3.5 versions.
So to then change your spl to 3.5, you must have first used unlocker to make spl 1.2, then the only way that was made to change spl to 3.5 was to flash the Athena Project 4 rom, so go to this thread... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=387409 and download the AP ROM V.4, unzip it, and run the flasher while your phone is connected with active-sync to your computer. This will install the spl3.5 and the AP4 Rom.
Now that that is done, you can choose any SPL3.5 ROM to flash... (make sure to only flash SPL3.5 Roms now... if need be, there is a way to go back to SPL1.2 if you need to, but there really is no reason you would need to.)
Probably the most modern rom with the most features would be the AGB Version 3.00 ROM, The Hulk one (I know you said you didn't want that, but it is the most current rom, and you can easily change the theme and wallpaper on it. This is the ROM I have on my Athena... its a nice ROM.) Here is the thread for that ROM... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614158
Just unzip the rom after you download it, and like before, hook phone up to computer and let it sync, then run the installer. You can also use the ealier AGB roms, too, if they look better to you, or any rom you come across as long as it is a spl3.5 rom.
And I will try to contact michy-prima to see if I can get one of his old clean wm6.5 roms or his stock wm6.1 roms, but I wouldn't count on me being able to get one from him. Personally I think the newer AGB ROMs are alot better and more recent and updated and would recommend using them.
Also, here is a convenient thread I just found that has links to many different builds and useful tools and guides... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=397518 ... so if you want to try out a couple wm6.1 while you have spl1.2 or even after flashing spl3.5, as a lot of roms are made for both spls. Just make sure you only flash roms made for the spl that you have on your phone.

MichyPrima's roms are no longer hosted, but I have heard good things about Taxists and Sogarths ROMs. You can easily try a rom and then flash another if you don't like it. Just remember, make sure to flash roms for the spl that you have. If you have SPL3.5 and want a spl1.2 rom, there are links to the tool to change back to spl1.2. The only way to go from spl 1.2 to spl 3.5 is to flash the Athena Project 4 ROM, then after that you can flash any spl3.5 you want. Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

1) connected and synced via active sync
2) set active sync not to sync any items except for files

AV disabled
Athenaunlocker added to firewall exceptions - im on a work network so firewall is controlled through group policy - so i cant completely disable. do you think this might be the problem?

I've been reading through the forums trying to find an answer... at what point does it show this error? Is it right away? Does the x7501 change screen at all or do anything? I think I remember having problems like this when I unlocked it years ago... but can't remember exactly what I did. Does the x7501 go to it's tricolored bootloader screen at all? It maybe is having problems installing usb drivers while it's in bootloader mode if it changes into bootloader mode when you get that error. Let me know asap so we can get this solved. Also, have you tried using another cable at all?

I'm kinda thinking he gave up or something.... I've pm'ed him and have been trying to get more info on his problem for a couple weeks. I think he was having the problem on the first step... and the enablerapi will probably solve his problem.
But doing all this reading and trying to solve this problem has got me to pull out my old athena and start playing with it again... it's been a couple years since I've used it... I'm on the HD2 now, dualbooting WP7 and android.... but I've gotten an interest in getting my athena set-up and working again. The athena was way ahead of it's time.... if we could get devs interested in it again and get a good android build ported over, it would make an awesome tablet/phone. I think I'm gonna try to play around with getting android booting on it, but my knowledge of linux and low-level kernel work is limited to none. The best I can do is try to put together a build with what kernels/tools are already out and working on the athena, which isn't much. I think they had it booting and got touch screen working, but not much past that.

ok - so i unlocked successfully but i think i may have fcked up. when i read olipros unlocker thread its says that only step 1 is necessary, ("but if you do step 2 you must also do step 3")
as i was trying to get to spl 3.5 i presumed that i didnt need to do step 2 or 3. this might have been a bad choice.
heres what happened:
ran unlocker step 1, it worked, phone rebooted. i finished there as i wasnt sure if i needed step 2 or 3
loaded bootloader screen to check spl. spl said olipro 1.2. i though cool - rebooted phone and now its a black screen. i can get into the bootloader screen whish says:
ATHE100
IPL-V1.00
ATHE100
SPL-V1.20. Olipro
have been reading up on next steps, or how to get rid of blackscreen but no conclusive answer.
its friday so im off home - battle lost but the war aint over!
Well. I'm not an expert (my Ameo was unlocked as I bought it) but if I understand, the black screen is because the ROM on your device dont match the new SPL you have. Try to flash a new ROM (SPL 1.2, right?) should help.

Just replied to your pm before checking this thread, so I see that you can still get to SPL bootloader screen. So, what you should be able to do now is get your phone to bootloader screen and hook it up to pc like that. Then let any drivers that are installing finish, and where it says "serial" at the bottom should change to "USB".
At this point, you can now run a custom rom installer and flash a new rom. Since you want to change to SPL3.5, you should install the Athena Project 4 ROM.
Or if you want to leave it at this SPL for a while and test out a couple WM6.1 ROMS that use this SPL, just flash one of these. Here's a good thread that lists almost every ROM available with links and says what SPL they're for... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=397518
I'll do a little more research also about the screen not coming on to make sure it's not some other problem, but it probably is just the current rom isn't compatible with the new SPL.
I'm sending this post to your pm too.
Also, make sure you have the SD card and sim card removed when doing flashing. And check what radio you have on your phone... you must have atleast radio 1.50 or higher to use Athena Project 4 or most WM6.1 or WM6.5 ROMS.
