... monitor what programs are using online access? I am on t-mobile and i believe i have unrestricted unlimted internet access. howevre not 100% sure on the unrestricted bit!!
I have netsentry installed and it recorded i/o of my web access, and already since the 12th (last hard reset) i've used 126mb on 3g and 369 on wifi!
Ive used 600 mb at 5 days. Beat that one
No sorry, I dont know an app that do so
An app that can do this would be very useful as it would help with tracking down which apps might be eating the battery.

So I really want to pick one of these up but read that it only uses 512ram, the other half is for laptop mode.

Nope. It has 818MB of RAM that you can actually use. I usually have about 450MB of RAM left at after booting up, so go ahead and get it. It's got 306MB of RAM more than any other phone on the market.
Oh, and BTW, I'm pretty sure there are some people working on a way to free up all of the RAM in the Atrix. Search the thread in development and I'm sure you'll find some posts about it all somewhere...
Beyond the dual core, the RAM is the next best reason for me for this phone. I start up near 500 and can run anything I want and it never skips a beat.
I use the System Info Widget to track things and I have never dropped below 215 with a ton of crap running!

Haha yea and all my other crazy ass apps that come up on startup! Weather, set cpu, battery minder ECT. And I take that back, i usually have 500 to 520 a couple minutes after startup. I had 450 at the time...but on my Bravo I usually have only about 150MB of RAM after startup it has 512 like all the other phones. Id say it's average for an average phone to take 400MB of RAM for the Android System plus all of your other apps that start up. Oh, and BTW, Blur isn't helping, and I hate you can't end any of that S**T.
Hello, I have been searching for app killer information. I see that some people don't think is necessary and some say it is. What's the verdict on this topic? Thx

dont use it, unless you know what your looking for. if you do use one look for one that displays processor cycles or how long the app uses the processor. if a rogue app is uses more than it should you kill it. other than that use. do not use them.
edit.
if an app uses excessive processor time, i just straight up delete it. unless i need it then i kill it.
At the Android BBQ, Cyanogen stated that there is absolutely no need for task killers. Granted this is the same thing he has been saying for some time now but misinformation is a hard thing to overcome.
I am sick of App killers, they may have had a place pre Froyo but any recent android build will not benefit from them. Most of the time quite the opposite of what is expected including but not limited to Higher battery drain, background services not syncing, or Force Close issues. In general if an android phone comes into the store I work at with a task killer it will leave with it uninstalled. If you need something to conserve battery I recommend adjusting your sync settings, brightness/timout, and installed apps settings. If you are running out of memory due to too many programs running you can either buy a new phone that has more memory or uninstall some of said programs.

So if the photon ran out of memory you would recommend buying the latest and greatest? And delete customers info?

Yes and No. A few years ago, 128Mb or even 512Mb on these phone were common. Yes it was nice to have 2Million apps on your phone and 1/2 of them running. It was easy to jam up your phone, so short of a reboot, an app killer was a nice tool.
This has 16Gb (Not Mb) and some space to play on the chip. I work in IT, been doing it for MANY years. Look at the size of these apps in Market Place. If you have THAT many apps, all running at the same time, You need a new phone when available.
BTW: Photon comes with Task Manager out the box, it willdo the same thing.
Just my $0.02!
Thx for the info.. I currently do not have one installed. I never have problems with my photon. Just wondering if it was something I needed.

My point is that it is an app that adds no value to the device.
An example would be a customer with an LG Optimus (140 MB of onboard memory) that has installed every version of angry birds and now wonders why their phone is slow and unresponsive. A task killer will not fix this, they either need to remove some apps or buy a phone that better suits their needs.
That being said I'm not really worried about the photon running out of memory (either the 3GB allocated to app storage or the 1GB of RAM) I'm not saying it's impossible but for the average user, heck even the average power user it is highly unlikely.
So people still don't realize this is Linux. Unused ram is useless ram. Fill it to the brim, it's there to be used 100%.

memory is different from ram. i have 1.6 gigs of apps(240) my phone doesnt run slow at all. i had 200 plus on my galaxy s and my g1(apps2sd). never slowed down any of my phones as long as you dont download poorly coded apps or use 500 widgets/app killers/bad live wallpapers/crappy home replacements. you can use as much storage as you want and never slow down the phone. its the active apps that are running that slow down the phone, not the inactive ones simply stored in memory for quick access. when android needs memory it kills off inactive apps. simple.

Good choice! On both phone and not needing this!
I have my phone and dont have any issues with it. I installed an advanced task killer and thats when I started having problems once I uninstalled it I was good. No problems whats so ever. Another thing I noticed is with the extra task killer when would dock my photon into the hdmi station I would get low memory pop ups since I uninstalled it no more low memory popups.

Just logging my experiences of some crazy data usage on my new phone and what I've done about it.
Backstory => I've had a HTC Hero for a while, Eclair (2.1) never once had over 420Mb Data usage in a month (and never made any attempt to keep it down). That phone was never on WiFi (hero does't support n) so I actually expected data usage to go down (phone averages 12hrs per day on WiFi).
So I opted for a special deal, dirt cheap, 500Mb/Month deal with very expensive charges for extra Mbs on UK Virgin Mobile (which is a reseller of UK T-Mobile).
First two days, 130Mb of the plan gone, maybe 30Mb of which was 'my' usage. At that rate my excess data charges for month 1 > entire 2 year contract price....
I've been using Onavo and Traffic Monitor (both Market) to try to track down the usage, both are useful but have thier problems. Also because I have had to get the usage down to the point were I can get through the month some of the guestimates of daily data use may be off. If there is interest I can always do some formal experimentation when my month resets.
For reference i have a SK17i on 2.3.3, f/w 4.0.A.2.335 (old but best I can get without unlocking phone). If anyone explicitly knows a firmware upgrape fixes these issues please let me know. This is limited to things that use data that really, IMHO, should not
Format is:
APK name;Longname;Onavo Stats; Traffic Monitor Stats; My Guestimate of real daily usage; What it does; notes
Stuff I've Already Gotten rid of
SemcCrashMonitor.apk;com.sonyericsson.crashmonitor;CrashMonitor - 10mb/day;??; 10mb/day; Listed as debugger in sources, no issues usage was with setting to send usage to SE turned off
SEMCSetupWizard.apk;com.sonyericsson.setupwizard; 6mb/Day;??; 6mb/day;Getting started wizard; Ensured i'd let it finish etc, why does it even run?
UpdateCenter.apk;com.sonyericsson.update center;3mb one day, 400kb the next;??;??;Might possibly be legit usage?;
SemcSnpStore.apk;com.sonyericsson.android.snp;Video Unlimited 3mb / Day;??;3mb/day; Qrocity video store; Again no legit reason for this to background data
there's more but they are far smaller usage
Stuff that I haven't had the guts to get rid off yet
if you know these are safe to drop let me know:
PMSservice.apk;com.sonyericsson.providers.protected.media; 3-6Mb per day, is either double counting this with Keypad or splitting usage wrongly across them; android.uid.phone ~ 3mb per day, presume thats must be this; 3mb/day; cant find any info on this anywere online; missing for several 'full xperia software lists
enhancedusbus.apk;com.sonyericsson.usbux;4mb/day;this is bucketed in com.android.system < 2mb per day;??; Its presumable the PC Connector etc addon; if it is using the data it genuinely has NO excuse
More to follow
i am suffering from same problem. i used internet on java phones before. (had x10 mini pro but never used internet on it)
my usage on java phones was approx. 1200 MB @ 8 kbps data rate EDGE connection. now I switched to xperia mini. I use 3G @ 14 kbps 3G and you wont believe it boosted to 5 GB per month.
sort of nice to know it isn't just me, 5gb is about what i would have gotten if i'd not noticed it i believe (was on some heavy rss feeds in addition to above). That would have been a crazy bill.
Hopefully some of this is actually fixable, might try to raise some stuff officailly with SE once I get more data.
Have a data usage horror story, let me know!
My analysis of my stock SE, HTC & Samsung handsets is that it is the refresh rates set default by these companies of twitter, rss and such that causes the insane amounts of data. Not mentioning the obvious if using streaming services such as YouTube, notify et al ;-)
Change updates to manual or every 4 hours keeps me below one GB per month for all handsets.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using Tapatalk
Wird with the data usage. This month I have only used 420mb on my mini pro (newest fw) and done nothing to limit my data use except for using wifi a bit.
I have not been over 1.5 gb in a month with heavy YouTube and stuff like that.
for me, its not a problem
just use the unlimited internet package...

since you own the game: you should find the required files on your internal sd card under the "/sdcard/android/data/(whatever the nova dir name is)". just copy the whole dir tree over and that should do it
Didn't you or someone else create exactly the same topic a few days back?
If your laptop has Wifi network, you can use the free program 'Connectity' to create a real Wifi AP network from your computer to which your phone can connect. It will then be able to use your computer's internet connection to download the game data.
However hocgwai's recommendation is better in terms of speed and data usage since you already seem to have it installed on another phone.

does performance on tegra 3 devices differ???or its ll the same..like they say they have a 12 core GPU..whearas we still on Mali like the S2

We're on the same GPU architecture than S2, true. However it's clock speed has been ramped up to twice S2's speed, bringing it in synthetic benchmarks (so real-world differences may vary) in front of the Tegra3 as the most powerful mobile phone GPU/CPU combination.
The amount of GPU cores doesn't say a lot about it's performance and how apps can actually use it.

Depends on which platform the game has been optimized for. Nvidia really aggressively pushs their Tegra platform while Samsung let's app developers take their own decision.
This -at least in the near term- results in THD having a better graphic than Mali which doesn't mean the S3 could not handle it. A nice proof is the Chainfire3D app which enables S2/S3 devices to run Tegra2 (optimized) games at full resolution or even fore a higher antialias.
Hi guys,
This has been bothering me for quite a long time and its very unusual for me at least.
So my friend has a WiFi connection (in theory 512 kbps )
When we try to download from browser from PC or Mobile(browser) speed is normal i e 70 - 80 kbps max.
But in Google Play Store speeds are ridiculously high. We tried from his Micromax and my Moto G too.
For example yesterday i downloaded Pocket Tanks (40 mb) in just few seconds. Updates are super fast too.
Even my 2 Mbps WiFi doesn't go so fast.
Its a good thing but I am trying to figure out why not on PC or Browser but only in Play Store?
Any guesses?

It's possible that you're reading different measurements. Remember the difference between a B and a b. A B is byte. A b is a bit. A byte is 8 bits. Speeds are typically measured in amounts of bits, not bytes. Thus, one thing might give you a measurement in Kb or Mb, and something else might be measured in KB or MB.

Hi
So I was trying to record speed using android dev kit and when downloading it I was getting 3 - 4 mbps.
So I'm getting high speeds from google servers as ADK and play store apps are on those servers...
Can someone plz explain it further?
i have the same issue and was wondering if i could get high speeds on my browser too?have you found out anything new?
Yeah, few day back I read somewhere, that if you get very high speed on the following sites :-
-> Google Playstore
-> Google Drive
-> Youtube. etc
Or any other site related to GOOGLE, You are directly connected to GOOGLE's Server. I'am also getting very high speed on these sites from yesterday. I think Google is providing direct support of its servers to different Service Providers.
