Hi,
I have a question about the 3g network. Well recently i tried connecting to vodafone and noticed that there is no 3g icon on the status bar unlike from the orange network. My question is that if there is no 3g icon, does this mean i do not have the 3 g coverage ? I tried connecting to the net, i put on the right settings APN, proxy.... but in vain. all i get is the message that i have to enable mobile connections which in fact is already enabled.
Can anyone here clear my mind please. thanks.
P.S I have no problems with the orange network. 3 g, Hspda everything works fine and fast.
You need to make sure you have a 3G SIM card for Vodafone. If you just pulled one out of an older phone (especially one that did not have 3G) then the SIM is probably only good for 2G (GSM/GPRS). The 2G and 3G SIM cards look identical, but they have different information on them.

for sure it is a 3g simcard. on other phones, coverage and data connection works fine but on the hero....
But on the Orange network are you not using an Orange SIM? And on the Vodafone network using a Vodafone SIM?
Only other thing I can think of is Vodafone don't have 3G coverage at the exact location you are trying?

well yes. i actually have two sims and 2 phones but i would have prefered to have the vodafone one on the hero. Vodafone do have the coverage cause my other phone do have the 3 g coverage.Cannot figure out where is the problem. Called the guys at vodafone and all they could tell me was that they do not have any settings for the phone, that they cannot help me cause they do not provide the pphone here.
Hmm....the APN setting and everything should be the same regardless of 2G or 3G data connectivity. Actually, that is something to check if you have not already. With the Vodafone SIM in your Hero when you go to Settings->Wireless Controls -> Mobile Network settings you might want to make sure "use only 2G networks" is not checked. Also make sure the Access Point Names is configured correctly. I don't know what they are for Vodafone, but a quick Google should tell you. Other than that, hmmm.........

Yep , i did everything right. still......
Try locking it in 3g mode. I have a rooted G1, you get to the menu by typing the following into the dialer:
*#4636#*
after entering that sequence it should goto a menu, pick the first item and scroll down and see if you can change from "CDMA preferred" to "CDMA only" or whatever your 3G equivalent is.
This is based off a G1 with a Hero ROM, so results may vary. Let me know if this works =)
Also make sure that you are switching over to the Vodafone APN settings. You can have the settings in correctly, but if you don't switch to that profile, then it will try using the Orange. This is the most common reason I have people in my store with data connection issues, they have the right settings, but didn't select the right profile.(I sell cell phone and cell phone accessories on a GSM network in the US, so I get a lot of unlocked phones in need of setup.)
Problem solved. A moderator could kindly please close this thread. thanks to all who helped. Cheers!!!

hi friend,
well there was nothing to fix as such. it was a misunderstanding.
One thing i came to know is that 3g will appear only is there is a data connection ...and if your apn is set correctly.
and another thing that was resolved is that htc hero cannot connect to vodafone live here in romania because it is only possible through wap bla bla bla a lot of crap.
This was the answer of vodafone representant: For the moment, the service vodafone live we provide cannot be accessed through new handsets with new browsers such as n97,iphone htc magic...

Hi,
since my phone was stolen 1 day before my trip to the US, I had to buy another one in California. I asked at the T-Mobile Shop if I could use the HTC HD2 in Germany and they said yes - I just have to wait 6 Weeks and request a unlock code. Now that I am back in Germany, I can't get a Connection with my O2-SIM card. Even with the T-Mobile SIM-Card there is no reception. I tried everything, AutoData Config, Connection Config.
When I click on Set Networks I get a list of all the German Providers (o2, T-Mobile, E-Plus, Vodafone), so the phone actually has reception, but cannot connect. When I click on "Find Network" it says "Cannot register on selected network. Choose another network, or disconnect your data connection and try again".
Is there anything I can do?
Thank you so much for help!
Alex
I don't know what to do... it finds all the networks but I can't connect.
Maybe I should try to flash another Radio?
I have now:
R 2.10.50.26
G 15.39.50.07U
D 2 Energy

Yes, did that! And tried to set the Europe- Types (GSM & 900-1800)
So, now I found something interesting. My original SIM Card from California T-Mobile can't connect to Networks, My ne O2-Sim-Card can't connect to any network either (but they can be found). But another FONIC SIM card (prepaid, germany) can connect to all networks!
I don't understand this...
Have you tried your O2 Sim Card in another working phone?
Ok, now that hurts. Found the solution for my problem: it says in the letter "Before you can use your new SIM card, you have to activate it!" Haha... I was searching the Web for 4 1/2 hours just to find out everything is right and I just have to read...
Thanks so much.
haha thats epic

*beer* for you good sir... everyone has one of those days.
Hi guys, noob here, just got my first android phone (been with blackberry till now).
I got a chinese X12 dual sim phone because i really needed only 1 phone (had to carry around 2 of them).
Phone works great, only problem is with the mobile networks. It can connect to GSM networks but it won't connect to a 3G network. The phone has 3G capabilities, 3G is enabled for the required sim, it finds the 3G network but it will not connect to it.
Sim works fine, had it in a Samsung i900 on 3G (WCDMA) - i live in Europe.
The thing that surprises me most is that the phone came with android 4.0 instead of the 2.3.6 it was advertised, could this be the problem?
Data Enabled ?! have access points ?!

yes, data is enabled on it, as for the access points it has them too (althought i am only trying to connect to the voice network, not the data network)
Tried one more thing which is wierd: the phone works ok with another 3G sim from another provider, but with the other sim it doesn't connect (but it finds the actual network). And the sim that won't connect works on my old phone (the samsung i900)
The first sim that works on 3G on my new phone is from Vodafone (and they have both GSM and WCDMA in my country), while the other sim that doesn't work is from a provider that only has 3G (for both voice and data).
Quick update:
i found out i also get an "error" : invalid IMEI for both sims - it was this way when i first got the phone...
really strange thing with this phone, in settings > about > it says android version 4.0 but when it starts it has the honeycomb logo...
would appreciate any help, if it's from the missing imei's that would be good (or bad, depending on how hard is that to fix).
You can call ##778# to get into those settings. But be careful, those can really screw up your phone if your not careful.
The only reason i can think of, is if your phone only supports certain UMTS bands, while your operator is using different ones. Check out this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UMTS_frequency_bands.
For example, my previous phone HTS Nexus One came in two versions - one for ATT(UMTS 850/1900/2100) and another for T-Mobile(UMTS AWS/900/2100). Both were GSM, both had 3G, but 3G would not work on another operator.

phone has only WCDMA 3G network - i tried it on different carriers (on 3G and not GSM) and it works fine, connects to 3G, it just won't connect to this specific network (although it finds the network there, so i guess it has the hardware to connect to it).
could this be from the lack of the IMEI ?
FIXED !!!!
Got it fixed, the problem was with the missing IMEI codes, put them back in, works like a charm.
I used the tutorial here:

Thanks for all the replies you guys.
I'm wondering if I'm the first guy on earth experiencing this problem.
I got an AT&T unlocked HTC One (M7) in the US and brought it with me to Brazil. I introduced the SIM card in it and it worked perfectly for phone calls. However, I can't get the internet access through the network. Brazil only works with 3G at the moment.
I called HTC and they told me to dial *#*#4636#*#* and change the settings for the network under "set preferred network". They told me there would be no guarantee this would work, but I should try.
I tried all the options from WCDMA, CDMA, GSM Only and so on and still could not get the mobile data access.
Right now, internet works only with Wi-Fi. So, he said that I could try finding help on XDA Developers.
So, is there anyone who knows what I should do next?
I wonder if rooting would resolve it, but it seems pretty much a device problem.
André
Make sure you have a 4G sim and make sure you are in a 4G area
But also, are youtalking about hspa+ or LTE?

I'm not in a 4G area. Only 3G.
That's why I need to change the settings. I tried also setting the APN settings and nothing so far...

take the same sim card in some local 3g andorid phone in brazil and try again .to make sure your sim card support 3g network , and you say you can not access network by your phone. i doubt if you have a data plan .maybe you should take a phone call to your carrier to check the data plan of your sim card
Thanks for the tips. I solved my problem by calling the provider. It was ANP setting issue. I wasn't getting it right the way it was supposed to.
Thanks again!

4G is hspa+ ... it is a faster form of 3g but still it's 3g
4G and 4GLTE are not the same thing
I've had my Z2 for over a month now but I've been unable to connect to T-Mobile's LTE network here in the US.
I know for a fact there's LTE in my area (I live in Seattle). Other phones have had no problem connecting to LTE.
After talking with T-Mobile's tech support I should have the correct APN settings. They also refreshed my phone on
their network. It helped somewhat. Before they refreshed, I couldn't detect the LTE network. Now I can detect it
but can't connect.
If anyone can give me some advice as to how to get things up and running that would be most helpful.
I've attached some screenshots that may help in diagnosing the problem.
I'm on T-Mobile in Los Angeles, and those are my settings... The only difference I have is the APN protocol is set to IPv6. Not sure if that makes a difference. Otherwise, we have the same exact settings and my LTE works fine.
Call TMo. Sometimes they have to reprovision your phone on the backend. I had that ptoblem with my Z1 but not with Z2. My APN type is blank. The settings can be found at TMo site. If you cannot find them, call TMo and they wipl email that to you.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I changed to IPv6, IPv4/6; I still get H+ but I dont get LTE.
I did call them, I guess what I meant by refresh was "reprovision". When I first got the Z2 I couldn't even detect LTE with network search.
But after talking with them; I was able to see the network. But for whatever reasons I cannot connect to it.

Might be a stupid question, but are you using an LTE-compatible SIM card?
haha, no that's actually a good question. I wasn't before but I went to t-mobile and got a new lte compatible one. but nothing's changed. i'm thinking maybe there's something wrong with the sim card.
Mine hasn't said "LTE" since I updated to .402 FW. It says 4G now instead, does yours show neither LTE or 4G? I get H+ in some areass, so I know there's a difference between the symbols (even if Tmo likes to think they are both 4G).
Try flash .438 ftf file via flashtool
To see can solve it.
Sent from my D6503 using XDA Free mobile app
I flashed unbranded. 402 ftf from Germany when I first got my device. Then I deleted the factory t-mobile apn that it downloaded and used these settings. They always work for me with unbranded international devices!
2219
The icon im getting is 3G/H+
Singtel .438 didn't work; same problem;
It might be an issue with my baseband.
I have
8974-AAAAANPZQ-00005-09
I'll try flashing germany .402 now.
purchased an 'EU' z5c from ebay
I was wondering why I cant get 4g signal only H+ when in 4g areas
I have read the only difference between the E5823 and E5803 is the cat 6/cat 4 lte, I dont really know what this means but I assume this might be the problem
4g is set to 'preffered' in network settings menu
network provider is Three
any ideas?
Have you contacted your service provider? might be that you are prioritized to use HSPA, they might have to do a reset on you in their system or just enable 4G etc?

The phone was purchased unlocked and I have been using my Three SIM card in another phone (GS3 LTE) previously and this had 4G signal no problem ... dont see why putting the SIM into a new phone would then change some setting on the network provider's side..
I will contact them anyway
very disappointing I fear maybe this EU version is blocking Uk 4g somehow
thank you
