I have two additional cards that I have played around with. One sandisk 8 GB class 2 and one Transcend 16 GB class 6. The below corresponds to both.
1. First I manually made partitions following this instruction http://androidandme.com/2009/08/news...droid-apps2sd/
2. Later when "Format SD card" from the settings menu it will not show up in the phone. It says card failure or unknown format.... or something like that. The only way to get it going again is to manually make partitions according to "1." instruction.
Trying to format from windows computers using a USB SD card reader. Tried with xp, home server and windows 7 but the card can not be found.
Puting in my original card and it pops up instantly.
All three cards can be browsed from whatever computer when put in the phone using usb cable.
IS THIS NORMAL ??? Is there any other way to format those two additional cards.

you will not be able to access the card if you have made ext... partitions( dont worry it is normal). did u make a fat32 too in the card? or made the whole thing ext...
BTW the link you mentioned above is not working so... cant know what you did exactly. anyway, try accessing your card with a partition manager. something like paragon partition manager.

I think my A-Data 8GB Class 6 SDHC is hosed. Is there anything else I can try before I have to purchase one? This is what I have noticed and done to try and resolve.
I cannot write anything to the card. However, I can read from it. I’ve tried deleting folders and files. They show they are deleted; however, when I take out the card and reinsert it shows back up. It does not show up as a drive when I hook it up to a card reader. Disk Management scan showed nothing. When I connect the Touch Pro to the laptop as a drive instead of Active Sync, the storage card does not show up. I can go through the File Management in the Windows Mobile app and see the storage card. Format is not available. A friend with an Android tried reformatting it and it just sat there. He took it out and resinerted his and it started formatting his card.
Is there a format program to use on the phone (searching now)? Is it time to buy a new SDHC?
ETA...I just installed FlashFormat from cnetx. Received "No storage card detected". Is there another good flash program?
You can try a card reader in your pc (ether built in or USB) to format the card. if you need help let me know.
btw a good program to format anything on windows is called swiss knife and its available for free here:
http://download.cnet.com/CompuApps-SwissKnife-V3/3000-2248-10070864.html?part=dl-CompuApps&subj=dl&tag=button
Yep...I tried a card reader to my laptop. XP did not see the card. However, I tried a different card and it showed up.
I will look at swissknife.
Swissknife does not see the card.
I ordered a new card.
I press unmount and then format and i press yes. But nothing happens. It doesnt format and it doesnt remount my sdcard.
Anyone else had this problem?
Im running Modaco (tried on both 2.2 and 2.6)
Yep, I had this problem earlier today. Just bought a new 16Gb sd card, tried to format it and nothing. Nothing on the phone and if I tried to mount it to Windows, it would say mounted, then Windows would say it needs to format the card, but would fail when you try.
In the end, the only thing I could do was to put the card into my work phone (a Touch Pro) and mount it to Windows via that. I was then able to format the card in Windows. Put it back back in the Hero and rebooted (because the SD card error message wouldn't go away). After that, it was fine.
Don't know why it doesn't work, but I think you will need to mount the card in Windows somehow and format it that way.
Plug it via a memory card reader and format it as FAT32 by right-clicking your memory card under "My Computer" and selecting Format..
// This is an alternative method and will most likely work
My 2 yr old 8gig Sandisk SDHC class 2 sudden;u went kaput, cannot be detected by my Topaz (strangely, my Topaz cannot detect other microSD as well, a 4Gb Sandisk Class 6 which is working fine on a Raphael).
The error message on my XP SP3 PC is like this:
Exception Processing Message c0000013
Parameters 75b6bf7c 4 75b6bf7 c 75b6bf7c
[Cancel] [Try Again] [Continue]
Can't detect, thus can't format.
Any help, please?
i'd think that this is connected to apps2sd feature. try partitioning it in recovery image, or format in card reader in pc.
So my S3 Pebble Blue is on it's way & I want to put all music & stuff on to my 64Gb Micro sd card.
Do I....
1: Format on the pc, if so which format & would the S3 still want to format when I put it in.
2: Format it in the phone & then remove & insert in to PC to transfer all my music & stuff?
I am familiar with android & formatting micro sd cards. I just wondered if being a 64Gb would be a different matter.

I also just received my SGS3 and inserted the SanDisk 64gb micro sdxc card.
I didnt format it, because it just seemed to work fine without formatting. Now I put all my data on it, but after a restart of the phone the card is suddenly corrupted...
In my phone it recognizes the card, but says its corrupted and needs to formatted. It then ejects the cards for safe removal. In my pc it doesn't recognise the card at all.
Does anyone have an idea on how to recover the data on it?
And what is otherwise the best way to format it?
Thx
RE:- 64GB MicroSDXC errors
I would use a external compatible Micro SDXC reader and connected it to your computer and try and recover the card on the PC. (first)
i) what operating system are you using on the PC.
ex-fat format problem in windows xp. If you have windows 7 it should be able to read ex-fat cards natively.
If you have xp you can try and install the
search for the knowledge base article 955704 on Microsoft Technet support package to enable xp to read ex-fat cards.
In the past I have used my external 9 in one reader to fix corrupted cards to recover the files from them using recuva or similar software it will restore the files onto your pc hard disk.
let me know how you get on.
Thanks a lot for the quick advice.
I don't have an external reader yet, so I ordered one just now. I have win7 on my pc, so I guess that will be ok. I'll try it later this week when I have the reader in.
Once I have it recovered (or not), what is the best practice for setting up the card? What's the best way to format it?

Free PC program Recuva http://www.piriform.com/recuva mount via USB or scard adapter.
Or even try Hexamob (need root) our some other file recovery app
When done, best and easiest to format through phone.

Hello there,
I just bought a 32GB Class 10 Samsung MicroSD card.
After inserting it, I made sure the phone sees it, and the computer sees it.
So I started transfering files to it...
Every time I try to transfer files to it, the cards sort of unmount, the computer stops seeing the External/Internal storage drivers info (0/0 KB and no files).
I realized I might be needing to format it, so I went to recovery and formatted the external card. Still no good...
If I don't try to transfer files, the internal sd card still works fine.
Am I formatting it wrong? or some other issue? Did I buy a faulty card?
Thanks!
P.S. Some info incase needed:
Using Galaxy S2 obviously, Resurrection Remix ICS 4.04
My PC is running XP SP3

Added some pictures to demonstrate what I mean.

Pic 2: The error I get, doesn't mean much except that the pc doesn't recognize the storage device, but just for the heck of it.

If unsure about the quality of your SD card google for h2testw. It is a Windows test software you can use to test your SD card.
Tried formatting it... still no good.
And h2test tries to copy a file repeatedly and after some time it also gets stuck like I do manually...
I was running into the exact same issue as you with an SD card awhile back. Tried many, if not all of the suggestions listed here. Sometimes, the cards just die on you, especially at the most inopportune times...

Open CMD
Type format [letter_of_external_card]: /x
ex.
format E: /x
and wait.
Then format again (through Windows Explorer) with this settings:
FAT32
default allocation size
fast formatting checked
and share the results.

Failure of h2test is normally due to defective hardware.
For SD cards I do not really know but when it comes to USB sticks there are many around that are just cheap crap. You could for instance buy a 8GB stick that will happily accept 8GB of data but only store 4-6GB!. This is where h2test comes into play: it will not only write but also read and therefore check if the data written was really stored in the flash.

Class 10? That card might be just too fast for your hardware.
I'm using Sandisk 32GB Class 4 and never had any problems.
I have tried some Class 6 and Class 8 cards with very various results.
Only class 8 card I found correctly working in my device was Memorex, but it was only 4GB.
So I gave up on fast cards...
its fake or corrupt, did you buy the samsung off a retailer , you always test flash with h2testw before you use it, speed is not the issue,i got a class 10 32gb i had many 16,256,4gb fakes, only 3.7 gb usable droped down to 1kb write then windows couldnt read the storage so you reformat again.
I had had a SanDisc 32 GB class 10 and everything was ok, until the time in which I needed more than 30GB in my HTC Desire X. So, I decided to buy the Kingston microSD 64 GB class 10. Even though our phone has official limit at 32 GB, after googling I noticed that I would not have problem with this card. So I bought it.
From the begin I had a few problems. Very often, about 2-3 times every day, it was required to unmount - mount the card for reading some files or for renaming them.
... it was not big problem for me. But from yesterday, I cannot have access to the sd. I see a message Damaged SD card, SD card is damaged, try reformatting it. And if I try reformatting it, nothing happens. Also in settings - storage I cannot mount the card, and I just see that SD card is unavailable...
What I have to do now? To try a format from windows 7? If so, what format? Fat32, ntfs or something else?
Maybe it is better to use the warranty?
Thank you in advance...
For sdcard, try to format to fat32 (should work either using gparted or windows format tools).
try to format your sdcard with the offical tool from the sdcard association:
https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/
if you wanna format your sdcard the right way, THIS IS THE TOOL TO GO!
The SD Formatter was created specifically for memory cards using the SD/SDHC/SDXC standards
if you still have problems, try to get a replacement from your dealer or sandisk directly.
if that doesnt help, try a different brand like kingston, samsung, etc....
