Ok, Ill take this from the beginning uptil now.
From start I rooted my phone, everything worked sweet and I had no problems with any functions of the phone.
Then I added some music to the SD by connecting the phone to USB and copied it over that way. I even used the builtin tetherfunction of the phone to see if it worked when we were about to go on holiday to an island here in Sweden.
When we arrived there (the day after I tested the tether positive) my computer just said "USB device not recognized" and the phone wouldnt even prompt me to mount the SD card, it just puts a notification about HTC Sync (which it cant find even though its installed and was working the day before).
I just thought that something went wrong with the computer and its drivers and accepted the fact that I coulnt tether the internet to my laptop.
Now, a week later when I was about to flash the HTC rom (updated one) I still couldnt get the phone to accept the USB connection, I tried on my workstation with same results as with laptop (USB device not recognized), on my wife's Vista machine nothing happens at all, my parents in law's XP computer says same as on my laptop and workstation, my MAC says nothing at all and my work Vista computer doesnt say anything at all either.
The only way to get it to recognize the phone is if I power it on with power+back (bootloader?), it shows up as a ADB device and I could flash the HTC rom from modaco's generic files.
Even after the new romflash and a total wipe it still doesnt work. Should I contact HTC, or do you think that this is some kind of software issue? Since its working in bootloader (Fastboot USB) the USB part of the phone seems ok, doesnt it?
What would you suggest?
i had the smae error, and the solution for me, it sound crazy, but try to use the original usb cable, or at least a thin one, there are two types.
Ive been trying 4 different USB cables (including the original white one) and all with the same problem. I will try to call HTC Sweden today and see what they think, this is soo annoying. Must say that its been quite a hazzle to use the hero (lagginess until last update drove me mad to start with, and now this...). Im not an apple fanboy of any kind, but I must say my iPhone worked perfectly with no problems from day one and still does (my girlfriend got it now). Its more solid built than the hero. I really hope HTC can solve my issue and make this work since I dont want to send the unit back to be stuck without a phone for a couple of weeks. I will get back here when I got an answer from HTC.
hello latiszm,
I'm having the exact issue as you describe... did you solve the problem? I tried changing the SDCard and also tried different USB cables but with no result... all of a sudden, I cannot mount the card... (it's mounted when the hero boots) but if i take it out and in again, the phone doesn't mount it nor ask me to...
thanks in advance!
hello latiszm,
I had the same problem!!! :-(, i put on the offical update and sent it back to tmobile so they can fix but i think i'll get a new one instead but i gotta wait 3 weeks :-(
I had the exact same problem, although I couldn't even connect with ADB, only fastboot.
See my following post about the problem:

So I soft bricked my phone last night, the "[TUTORIAL][ROM] How to fix your phone and apply the update" helped me get everything back to normal. But now when I go to connect my phone to my computer with the USB cable it doesn't wanna connect. It charges the phone, but there's no "USB connected" notification on the phone OR the computer. I've tried putting the phone in USB debugging mode which gets me a "USB connected" notification on the phone, but nothing on the computer, and I can't access any files. I've tried using different USB ports on the computer and still nothing. Any ideas?
Edit: Neeeeevvermind! I should just stop posting questions because I seem to find the answer right after!
What was the answer?
same thing happened to me (sort of) im fully stock not rooted, and for some reason the usb wouldnt connect to computer only charged never game me option to mount sd card. i tried everything, dl'ing drivers from samsung and tmo, nothing worked, spent 2 hours going over the exact same steps between tmo and samsung tech support, **** is busted bro, the more and more i read about problems with the galaxy s the more i feel pissed. just call tmo and tell them you have tried everything from dl'ing drivers to resetting phone and nothing works. i guarantee they will send you a replacement like they did for me. the best part of our phones is the storage (internal, and sd card) w/out access to those the phone is as good as a motorola razor (useless)
Well I'm not sure if I just didn't notice it, or it actually wasn't there, But I put the phone in USB debugging mode and connected it to the computer. Usually I can access files just by plugging it in, but I had to select "Mount" for the computer to recognize it. Pretty obvious solution I know!
@erhan82
That is annoying that you had stock everything and it still didn't work. Usually the solution is really simple though, like a soft reset or something.
I just hate when people complain about the Vibrant having problems when they modify a bunch of stuff. The manufacturers didn't intend for us to root and hack our devices, (as much as we would have liked them to) so when something goes wrong, you can't really blame Samsung or T-Mobile. Well...you can, but when you modify stuff it's usually your fault. And there is definitely exceptions!!! I'm just saying... And Samsung is really slow with rolling out updates, which is very annoying! Anyway.
@Xianku i tried soft reset (i tried that before i even called tech support), i tried everything. And knowing what a pain in the ass it is calling tech support (between waiting to speak to sum1, and having them ask me to do steps i've already done). To be honest i havent seen any crazy development for the vibrant yet. At least not on the level of g1 development. But in all fairness samsung hasnt released kernels yet so once they are here then i'll root.

Where can i view the tutorial because my phone got into bootloop and wont connect to computer properly and i need help Thanks!
Hello! My USB on my HD2 seems to be acting up, it has been working perfectly before but now I can not connect it to the computer any more. Charging it works fine though.
When I connected on mainscreen i got a "USB device not recognized" resulting in no connection between the computer and the phone. When I enter bootloader I get the device recognized as "Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM". I figured, ok, so perhaps it is ROM-connected and I just need to reflash to a stock and all will be fine and dandy.
(There were a lot more of fiddling around with USB settings before I went to bootloader, including reinstalling USB drivers on computer, trying different computers and trying different cables)
Flash got to 8% and then got an error message, now I get to bootloader automaticly on load, still the same Qualcomm device connected but SSPL-program on computer can't find a connection (and obviously not Window Mobile Device Center either.)
Where does my best hope lie? I dont have a cardreader for my microSD here at home so need to go out and grab that for any chance of reflashing that way. But I would seriously prefer to get the USB connection working.
Suggestions? Would be very appreciated!
I have just had excatly the same problem
Sent it to HTC Repiar centre (see their website). Despite other peoples experience mine was excellent. Repaired within a week and returned with new motherboard (hence new USB) and new case. They also fitted a new case as well as new battery terminals.
The phone had been loaded with a new rom by me. HTC reloaded the latest T-mobile rom (phone originally T-mobile) and returned it locked. They offered to send a new unlock code but I just re-loaded another (later) WWE rom.
All fixed - and free of charge.
Top service I say.
Good luck
Love my phone, but I can't get it to mount to my pc. Before the latest update I was able to use easy tether and access my sd card to transfer files. After the update neither the PC nor the phone do anything when plugged in, other than charge the phone. I've only found one computer that I can mount my phone to. Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution? I've tried multiple USB cords and even HTC's support line. They seem to think Verizon's media manager is to blame, but I think it would happen with all of us if that were true.
BTW phone is completely stock.
I have the same issue.

Not Quite The Same
My computer doesn't recognize my phone at all. My DINC worked fine on every computer I tried it on, too bad I can't get used to the smaller screen and the 3G speeds again.
What does your computer say under device manager? Might have to update drivers, or delete them and reinstall them.

Just one entry has a problem, but my coworkers Samsung Captivate works in this PC. The other computer doesn't have any issues in Device Manager. When I try to update it the Hardware Update Wizard says that it could not find a better match for my hardware. I can't post the image yet, 8 more posts to go.

I would try uninstalling and reinstalling the HTC drivers. You may also try a different USB port, if you haven't already.

Yeah I think it has to do with the Verizon bloat. My Dad's work computer won't see his phone but it sees mine just fine. We both have Rezounds, but mine obviously isn't stock like his.
Tempted to hard reset
I'm so fed up with this that I am tempted to let Verizon do a factory reset. Either it works or they'll send a refurbished phone and hopefully that will one will work. Either way one way or another its going to cost them man hours or phones. I'm fed up with the bloat and the problems it causes.
I'm posting from my Windows 7 i7 gaming rig. My Rezy is usb connected to my rig. I can navigate both my internal memory file system as well as my SD card file system from Win7.
My Rezy is locked and stock, btw. I love this phone.
...it really is a quirky device. At least mine is.
The other day, I was trying to use Winamp to sync my (up-to-date, stock, rooted) phone's music playlist using a Windows 7 computer, which I had done numerous times before. Just to eliminate the obvious, yes, the computer has a recent, working version of the HTC usb drivers installed, and yes I had the phone in Settings->Connect to PC->Disk Drive mode. No matter what I did, the computer would not recognize that the phone was plugged connected to it, and likewise the phone would not show that it was connected to a computer.
I was almost out of of options, but, as a last resort, I hooked it up to my linux (ubuntu 11.04) computer, which a couple of months ago had given me symptoms that were identical. Et voila! It recognized the phone with no problems whatsoever. You savvy readers here might remember that I posted about some of my pain with the linux box back then, because I was trying to update one of the botched OTA's that had left me unable to re-root my phone. So I booted it to the version of Amon Ra that I'd had problems with back then. Again, no problem. Go figure.
I then disconnected the phone, and hooked it back up to the Windows machine: No problem. Very, very puzzling.
I did a search here some time ago, and I don't remember seeing anything like this happening to anyone else. Regardless, just to be thorough, I'm going to ask once more: Have any of you characters heard of this kind of phenomenon with a Rezound?
many thanks!
john
I dealt with almost this exact problem of the PC connection with another user. In fact I've supported the user on three devices. His issue we eventually mostly figured out was with the sdcard mounting. In that process which seems so simple of plugging in the phone when it unmounts and remounts then afterwards unmounts and remounts, it would get part of the process and not finish the other part. He ended up thinking it was a faulty device and buying a new phone then eventually saw it on the new phone (different brand different OS). He called the sdcard company because it was a high end sdcard, the tech immediately said "I'm really sorry but almost every call we have had has been for this one problem with this one card. After testing we found a faulty internal chip, so we will gladly send you a brand new card that's bigger and better."
That was his experience, the problem is there's a lot of places in the food chain that could be a hardware failure, software failure or driver issue and would mimic the symptoms fairly closely.

Thanks so much for sharing your experiences on that issue!
I have to say I thought of that some time ago, but since this mounting thing affected the internal one too, I didn't put too much energy into following up on that. I will now.
Cheers!
John
Going to take this a completely different way since I have never had the issues you describe, but had another thought...
I used to WinAmp for a long time, remember that with WinAmp if you have a WiFi network you can sync music wirelessly, it is how I did it all the time and to be honest if you have a solid WiFi network, it is faster than USB. All you really need is WinAmp on your PC and phone and a WiFi network.

And you need the winamp app installed on your phone; I'm a minimizer.
I appreciate the suggestion, but the winamp thing was only the vehicle that led to my discovery that the problems I had a few months ago connecting my phone to a computer weren't an anomaly. That experience left me with the feeling that my Linux system was somehow screwy.
Now I know that that wasn't the problem, and since I'm going to need to be able to connect reliably to a computer for adb/fastboot access as well, it motivated me to get some help figuring out why that was happening.
Cheers,
John
help? I recently had a hard drive issue, so i got a new hard drive and did a fresh windows 10 install. All seems to be working fine now, except I can NOT get windows to see my phones - captivate glide, s5 neo, or galaxy s7 all samsung - at all!!! The notifications say samsung_android is connected, but i cant access the files or folders at all, "my computer" brings up zilch as far as even recognizing the device fully, let alone files and folders. i dont remember having this issue before, so some update must have buggered something up somewhere along the line
more and more as the years go by, I crave windows 7. too bad support is ending in 3 months...
can anyone offer any help? Ive got drivers, though those were hard to find and didnt auto install so maybe not the *right* drivers. ive tried each version of connection several times (ptp, mtp) no dice on either. this is so irritating. Ive been literally having to remove my SD card and plug it in directly, and bluetooth between my devices to transfer anything which takes *way* longer on top of having to sit right there and click "allow for another 300 seconds" every so often.... why in the world would windows 10 restrict things SO much??
it wants you to connect your phone directly to your OS with a phone number and having to add an app to your phone. uhhhh, no thanks!!! How can i get the good old fashioned way back? I hadnt updated yet with my old hard drive, and now that this is a new install i cant go back. this is so frustrating. I just want access to my GD pictures without having to dismantle my devices.... and yes its a legit samsung cable and plugged directly in and all of that basic BS. this exact setup with this exact cable worked before. so wtf has changed with this august update (i delayed several times) to make things so unbearably complicated?
please help a frustrated user out!
No one else is having this issue?
