What do you call this? - Touch Pro CDMA

Well I went to the sprint store to try to get my chipped chrome and keyboard fixed (I don't have insurance). All they told me was it would be $120 to fix the keyboard and then they gave me this screen and said they didn't want to break my tp so I could try to fix it myself. Of course I don't want to break my phone so I am just gonna try to sell this screen on ebay. My question is what should I call it? I've searched everywhere but the only thing I found was "screen replacement" or "digitizer" but nothing with the chrome.

Not saying your lying but the Sprint store will never give you device parts and tell you to fix it yourself.

Well that's what happened, I found it a little odd myself. I went in, asked if they could fix the chrome (didn't mention kb until after), the guy went to the back room and came out with this screen saying they didn't want to attempt to fix it cus they might break it and would need to replace the whole phone. Then he gave me the screen and said I could give it a shot if I wanted. I did sprint webchat yesterday and she said I should go back to the store and ask them again. She said they noted my acct and it should be fixed cus its a known issue but the guy at the sprint store didn't even look my acct up. I am gonna try again tonight and see what happens.
Anyways what should I call this?

they probably did that because you dont have insurance.
just call it touch screen with chrome bezel and buttons or something .. dont know if there are correct "names" for it

you'll need to disassemble the phone and disassemble the the back of the "half phone they gave you. The ribbon cable is torn, so you will need to use the one from your first device. Use the two to make one good one. Unfortunately, the keyboard is a whole different ball game.

Someone please tell me I can disable trackball

My trackball is constantly going left and it has made text messaging impossible. It's slowing down games, making my launcher lag, and is basically ruining the phone for me. I have root and unplugging the phone occasionally helps but it's murder to have to unplug your phone to play a game, which drains battery.
Please, is there any way to just disable the trackball altogether?
lol..take it to verizon!!
I don't want to get a non-rootable phone from them...
just hold out untill the dorid x comes out and then see if they can upgrade you to that for just the 2 year contract price...
or just bring it in and if they give you a non-rootable phone then just say that it wasn't working either.

I never found a fix for this. I took my phone back to Verizon and luckily they still had 2 Eris' with 1.5. You could get lucky like me, but if you'd rather not try have you tried cleaning the trackball with a q tip and alcoholl?

That would void the warranty? Then I'd have no chance of returning.
I might stop off at Verizon store and ask if there's anyway I can get an upgrade for just the price of a contract...
I imagine you should be able to disable the trackball by unmapping it. I took a quick look through the keyboard file and didn't see anything, but I'll have to take another look tomorrow when I'm more awake.
I'm fairly sure I've read a topic on here about changing out the trackball (which are cheap from Ebay or something like that). Had a step by step, with pictures, detailed guide laid out.
Did a quick search and viola, here ya go-

doesnt fix the trackball. the sensors are on the motherboard, this only replaces the ball and the small plastic housing it's in.
the trackball going to one direction or another is a common in the eris (arguably why HTC has since switched to using optical pads). so far, only way to fix is to take it to verizon and get a replacement. there is finally a root for 1.49 (in most cases) so you should be good with any phone you get from them.
I guess I'll just have to replace it, oh well. I'll hold off for a while.

[Q] Resetting itself?

I posted a while back about the resetting issues that everyone or some
are having with the new radios i tried several different kernels without
any luck so i returned to stock no biggie...
Well its back had to resets today so i called verizon i dont how
they get this... i told them about the battery blah blah that
i know how to work this phone i know my tech i work on
computers for christ sakes well anyway i mention about it
resetting itself to my belief the tech says its part of the
functionailty of the phone i said REALLY? of course i dont
believe this utter non-sense fowl words came to mind as you
could imagine. so i asked about replacing the phone the
tech said they can ship one out for cost of shipping and
handling but if they found nothing wrong they would charge
me full retail! this was B.S to my ears so im trying to figure
this situation out its been over 28 days with the tbolt.
i feel like if i take it back i might encounter another tbolt with
the same so called "functionailty" really would it be worth
the risk?
Maybe try calling again. I had unusual, random problems with my Droid and every time I called VZW they would send one overnight for free. Never charged a dime. I think I did that 4 times.
I would try calling back and working with another tech. If your phone is not working, they should replace it. Worst case, head into a store, and explain to them what is going on. Its much more likely they will do something for you when they can see you visibly upset.
I wouldn't count on them being able to fix it, but with enough of a stink, I'm sure you can get it exchanged out.
the rep i talked too was rude in the way she didnt seem to have much knowledge of what was happening said it was part of the functionailty of the tbolt i was like really so while im talking it just decides well this is part of my functionailty so ill reset while your
on the phone or wait a minute ill reset half way into your music but its ok its part of the
functionailty so its ok thats what i told her then i explained im better off taking to a store and telling them the horrible job you did to resolve my issue so ill be taking it into the store tomorrow

bottom 2 mm of phone not working right??

the bottom 2 mm of my sprint evo 3d is not working right. by that, i mean that its sorta uncalibrated. my phone is rooted and it was normal until yesterday. now, if i put my finger on the bottom to mms of the screen then it claims it to be higher that it is.
for example, the dev options gives me a screen pointer overlay option and if i have my phone on the very bottom possible it says its at 888.5 on the Y. my finger trace is followed but higher.
thats a really bad explanation so ill try using a picture from paint
http://imgur.com/lAR48
any questions (i know i did i bad job of explaining it, but its hard to explain.. for me atleast) just ask..
thanks,
colin
That is the most funny drawing I've ever seen. LOL!!!! However, must give you some points for the try. lol *gives you a Thanks point for making me laugh*
haha thanks
my photoshop trial ended a month ago so im making due on paint for this
but i think im just gunna take it in to sprint... i already flashed an ruu and unrooted and got s-on... on the bright-side hopefully ill get a new phone!
same thing happened to my phone. took it to a sprint repair store they told me to come bak in 2 hrs i did and they replaced my phone with a refurb. unfortunatly my refurb is also borked and will restart whenever i connect to wifi. anyways best of luck to u =)
uh oh. i hope i dont get one of those... i never turn wifi off! :O
i plan on re-rooting or rooting whatever phone i get, so hope its not messed up and is in good condition...
you think theyll give me a refurbed white one if i ask?
They originally told me that they didn't have any refurbs at the store and would have to order one but theymagically found one...
I called sprint and complained and they helped me out with a loop hole to get a new phone a year ahead of time and I got the s3. I wasn't dealing with any more crap phones from them even tho they say they r HTC certified

Maybe the digitizer? If it's under warranty, take it to sprint. If not, you can get one on eBay not to pricey.

[Q] Phone won't turn on?

Hi, uh I started another thread on making sure things got backed up. Which I did properly and everything was good. So today I haven't done anythign and was waiting for the new slim rom to make it's debute hopefully this week sometime as that is the one that appeals to me the most. Anyways, today my phone just got super hot, far hotter than before and it decided to die on me...I think. it shut off and I haven't been able to turn it on. Could this be a side effect of installing twrp/unlocking the bootloader/rooting? Or would it be a defective unit? One concern I had was getting a defective unit so i waited out my 30 days before even considering doing all this. So yea my 30 days from att is up. Would there possibly be a way to get a new phone from att or does anyone have any tricks on getting it back online? I personally think it was an overheating issue, but my phone is now cooled down.
So i went to the att store and of course they won't do anything. They told me to call some number they gave me. If I return it will they know it was boot unlocked and rooted? I can't turn it on at all. Using a power source or connecting to my computer nor my car charger...

Ok, so, im not sure if by return you mean, return for an exchange or simply a return as ATT will probably only send you a reman unit for yours and not allow an actual return. If you havent called them yet, i would recommend it. I have dealt with them many times in the past and one thing that has always shocked me is that they never have asked me about, or even commented on, how rooting or unlocking prevents them from exchanging it. Even during the disclaimer, they have never once said that if the device has been modified they wont allow the exchange.
I say all of this because should they not mention anything like that, and you send it back, im fairly sure you can claim you didnt know and werent told, and they will take care of it. Also, i say this because i personally sent back 3 bricked GS2s and an lg nitro as defective and got my reman units and every single one of them were rooted and such. So, i would feel safe. As long as they dont ask, and you dont lie to them, then there shouldnt be an issue. I wouldnt lie to them, i just dont mention it. AGAIN DO NOT lie to them or attempt to decieve them, i would never encourage that, but if its something they dont ask about, then, it, in my opinion, is not something that they are too concerned with.

Okay, thanks for the response. Sorry I was in a bit of a panic when I wrote that. But I have called ATT and they didn't ask me or mention in any disclaimer that if it's rooted or unlocked it won't qualify. I didn't mention it and so that does make me feel a lot better. Hasn't been physically damaged or come in contact with water so i'm pretty sure I'm safe. Thanks again.

They may or may not check when you return the phone. I returned my S3 a few months ago in exchange for a different phone but I forgot to unroot it and uninstall Superuser. The representative at AT&T didn't even turn the phone on. I didn't have anything to hide though, if they told me I couldn't return it because it was rooted then I would have sold it and purchased something else. I think the manufacturer is the one to worry about with these things. LG would definitely know if it were unlocked and they would be able to determine if rooting and unlocking the phone caused the problems you described.

Well if they can turn it on I will gladly take it back due to them not accepting. I couldn't turn it on by anymeans, even plugging it in there is no lights to signifying it is receiving power. But i heard this phone had overheating issues in the first wave (or two) so it's probably for the best to get a new one. They are currently mailing me a new one and so I should receive it next week sometime hopefully.

Sounds like everything worked out.
im in the same boat as you... completely dead phone. But I did open it to see of the battery pull would work. Do you think that theyll check and refuse my warranty because I opened it? the phone on the outside is NEW. Btw do you have a contract/account with ATT? I bought mine off ebay and used it on tmo...
I have the exact same problem! Totally dead phone that the charging light won't even turn on for. Unfortunately there is a small crack in the bottom left of the phone that was caused months prior so ATT wont give me a new one...
send it for repairs! I had rooted and unlocked mine so ATT didnt cover my warranty, but I only paid 50 bucks for the repairs and now I have my phone back!

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S2 won't boot anymore

Hi,
Yesterday, all of a sudden my S2 crashed for no reason and I haven't been able to boot it ever since. First, I put out the battery, put it back in and everything seemed to be ok, but when the screen with the Samsung logo came on nothing happened. I tried this a few times, still the same. So I started to search on the internet for soluitons and found out about the 'recovery mode'. I got it into recovery mode and chose 'reboot', and after that my phone totally stopped working...
Now it won't even turn on or anything, when the phone is on the charger there's no sign that it's charging. I've tried another battery but it stays the same. I've got the phone for 2.5 years and never had any problems with it and never rooted or flashed it.
I've searched this forum a bit and I saw some quite simular problems, but because at first I got into download mode I thouigt my case is a bit different. So, is there anything else I can do to help fix this?

Thanks so far, but can someone tell me how it's possible that these devices just stop working? Never had any problems with it at all.
You guys think an USB jig etc. won't work? I've recently saved all photos/videos.. But I didn't save agenda items/contacts and such, because there was no reason to believe that the phone would crash in near future.
Seriously ? Electronics of all kinds (phones, PC's, whatever) die without warning for all kinds of warnings. Not like electronic components can give you some pop up warning saying 'Oh yeah, BTW, I'm about to bite the dust, you better back your **** up'.
A jig is unlikely to work, but eh, maybe you'll be the 1 in 10,000 cases like this where it will work. So you definitely try one if you can get one.
Saying 'But I didn't save agenda items/contacts and such, because there was no reason to believe that the phone would crash in near future' is beyond ridiculous. If you've got stuff that's really important to you & the loss of that stuff is going to cause you angst, you're a fool if you're not backing it up regularly. Even on a completely stock phone this is a cinch to do (Kies).

bro calm down
and tell will that capacitor thing will work ??
I mean take a look at that link.. people who have dead s2's without even water damage have able to boot up the phone by removing that capacitor...
what do you think ?
No idea, never tried it (and wouldn't). I'd bite the bullet & pay someone to fix my phone properly or buy another one, and I'd also have all my stuff backed up so I can restore it when I get my phone fixed/to my new phone.
Edit - I'm perfectly calm. I refuse to show any empathy/sympathy to stupid people who don't back important data up & then cry when that data is lost.

yes ... about those people who have water damaged their s2's
but some people whose s2's are dead not aby water damaged also saved by this thing..
It says to remove that Capacitor.. and try to turn on phone again...
Its not a guarantee that it'll work... just an last experiment done on Motherboard that may save it...BEFORE REPLACEMENT

you can try that..if you have finally decided to replace your motherboard at all...
may be it could...
have you gone to the local mobile repair shop ? what they said ??
I'd rather try everything not to have to replace the motherboard. Cause like I said earlier: If there's any possibility to save the phone like it was when it crashed, so with messages/settings/apps etc. it's better offcourse... Or is it when I remove/replace this capacitor all will be lost also?
I'm going to visit the local store this afternoon to see what they have to say about it... But there's no warranty on this phone anymore so I guess fixing will be (too) expensive.

Just for the record: If the USB Jig method works, do I lose my data after all?
I got a USB-Jig and tried to get the phone into download mode, but it didn't work. Are there any other solutions left?
Eh no.
