Calender sync, too many calenders! - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, just set up my first Google account (for the sole reason that it works flawlessly with the Hero) so I can sync the calender and my contacts.
But I find it a bit, hmmmmmmm confusing actually and need some help "clearing" things up a bit.
A) I have phone contacts - I use HTC Sync to backup these to Outlook (which I don't use, I only keep it to backup my phone if something happens).
B) I have "My Calender" - I use HTC Sync to backup these to Outlook (ie. the same as above)
C) Now in calender I have:
- My Calender
- [email protected]
- Holidays
- Week Numbers
- Exchange
- Outlook
D) In Contacts i have:
- Google
- Exchange Active Sync
- Phone
- SIM
All I really want is the EASIEST, CLEANEST and BEST way to sync my contacts and my calender.
Questions:
1) How to I "merge" My Calender and my Google calender? IE. sync my "My Calender" entries from the phone, to my Google calender online?
2) Messy thing is, that I use Thunderbird as my email client and the Lightening calender ad-on. How would you suggest I proceed with this?
3) What do I stop using, what do I delete....
ALL I REALLY WANT IS ON FUNCTION TO RULE THEM ALL.....

Multiple gmail calendars [SOLVED]

Is it just me and my htc hero or its not possible to use more then 1 calendar with gmail account?
I have multiple calenders that I use with my gmail account but I only see the first one (work) and can't add events or see any other calendar!
Is there a way to work around this?
Thanks
go to the calendar, click menu, then the 'Calendars' icon.
You should be able to select multiple calendars. I have 6!
I already did that before I posted question here and this is
what I see there (take a look at attached picture)
I guess I didn't understand the question fully...
I have multiple calendars within my main Google calendar. I presume you have multiple google accounts with separate calendars?
I'm not sure you can configure your phone to pick up more than one calendar at a time.
I do have multiple gmail accounts but in this case we are talking about
ONE gmail account with multiple calenders. As you can see I get only ONE calender which I find bit odd since it should sync both my calenders.
Been looking on gmail account settings for a way to solve this but no luck so far.
After fideling with settings and going back and fort with gmail account setting
I finaly got my second calender on hero.
Here is what you need to do in case you have same issue as me:
1.Make appointment/entry on the web in your gmail account on you second calender (or on one you are missing on your phone)
2.Do following on your phone: go to settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications, find Calender and Calender storage and push Clear data button on both. This way you are dumping your existing data from calender on yor phone.
3.Go to you calender app on you phone and it wil start sync like it did first time, and voila both calenders are available now.
Well done mate, glad you managed to figure it out.
Out of interest. Did you add your second calendar (Private) after you originally synced your google account with your hero?
i.e. you have to follow your steps if you add another calendar from now on??
Cheers
Second one "private" was made the same time as I added "work" one (few years back), so in theory it should be synced along with work when I added my account on hero. Why it was not synced in the first place? ...one of "hero's" mysteries
I made a test calender just a few sec ago and this one did sync right away with hero, so no need for dumping cache and forcing sync to get new calender.
I had probably calendar cache issue which fixed it self when I dumped the whole thing and force synced.
Now we know

[Q] Contacts and calender sync and duplicates

My wife uses a Hero.
When she got it we synced it with pc-outlook and got all her contacts and calendar on it.
But while using the hero for several months without paying attention she added new contacts as “gmail” contacts and added new calendar entries as “My Phone”, instead of “PC sync”.
Now none of these new entries can be synced with outlook and what’s worse, if I want to change the rom I don’t have a way to get these new entries back to the phone. I know I can sync the gmail contacts back to the phone but she needs them on her pc as well.
A second problem is that after each outlook sync some of the original outlook contacts are duplicated. Erasing them doesn’t work since after the next sync they all come back. Some are 8-10 times over…
So:
1. How do I sync “gmail” and “My Phone” contacts and calendar with outlook? Can I change them to “Pc sync”?
2. How do I get rid of the duplicates once and for all?
anyone?
anyone?

Calendar/Contacts - Local Outlook 2010 to Exchange Server Migration

Since I got this phone at release, I've been using HTC Sync to keep my local Outlook contacts and calendar synced to the thunderbolt and it has worked fine. Now my organization has finally gone from a legacy system to Microsoft Exchange, and so I set up push email, contact and calendars, and then exported/imports my local calendar/contacts to the Exchange account on my PC (email was migrated by IT). Only problem is, now I have duplication of calendar entries on my calendar app (which can be hidden but not fixed by unchecking the local calendar in calendar app settings) that I want to get rid of.
I also have duplicate contacts, only thing is the phone linked them so I have linked contacts with 6 entries (phone, exchange activesync, facebook, facebook for htc sense, linkedin, skype) which is ridiculous. Is there any way to delete only the contacts synced from local outlook in the past (which are true duplicates of exchange contacts), then relink everything with the social media (except maybe only have it sync with either htc sense facebook or real facebook) entries. Also, I'm not sure how the phone is treating newly saved contacts, I want to make sure they go to the exchange server, not google or phone/sd card.
A last annoying thing, I use the mail app and primary gmail is my default account ever since this happened, I want it to go back to being my organization account as before (except now that account is exchange not IMAP).
Thanks for the help
You are confusing an Android phone with something professional. It is not! Get yourself a windows phone and the problem will be solved.

[Q] Disable email sync in "Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync" account

It's strange, but I want to sync only calendar and contacts with my work account (Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync account).
In my old HTC Wildfire, under Settings-Account, I was able to choose what items I want to sync: calendar, contacts and/or email.
But with my new SGSII I can only choose calendar, contacts and task.
I can't tick or untick the email mark, it isn't.
It works well, syncing my email, but I don't know how to deactivate email sync and go on with calendar and contacts sync.
Does anybody know how to do this, is the diference the android version ? (if the cause is the version, what about ICS ?
Thanks a lot.
Anybody ?
Thanks a lot.

[SOLVED!] Running ICS Googlefree (at least Contacts and Calendar)

I just updated my Razor to 672.180.41.XT910.Retail.en.EU via OTA update.
ICS is quite nice.
I experienced some minor problems (peakfinder started to act sluggish and grabatron is not anymore fluid as before, but I can live without them!)
... actually the enhancement on Wify is relevant and it seems its the new platform, at least up to JB!
Actually a much bigger problem arised for me!
With GB I was able to keep my phone contacts and calendar synced with outlook without having to use the cloud (gmail).
I installed Motorola PIM sync app and using Motocast USB I succesfully synced outlook's contacts to the Razor creating a new account (Outlook Contacts) were I could easily add new contacts also directly from the phone and sync them back to outlook using the excellent MyPhoneExplorer.
Motocast USB is needed just for the first time (it creates the Motocast USB Outlook Contacts account), then I preferred using MPE as it allows you to sync also calendar, toDos, notes, sms and calls with my Pc locally (no cloud things!).
Keep in mind that while there are also other solutions, the Motocast USB account creation is the only one that let you add to it new contacts from the phone using the default contact app.
Strangely the default contacts app doesn't let you add new contacts to the phone account.
Using instead the standard gmail account without syncing it was not an option as I experienced it syncing with the cloud even if not told to!
With ICS I replicated all the process to sync googlefree but, while the process could be replicated ...wait! I'm not anymore able to add new contacts to the Motocast USB account from the phone!
Actually the Outlook contacts account is created, but I can't select it as an option to add contacts to it from the 'contacts' app.
.... this is the problem!
I'm also looking for solutions using alternative contact apps which could work on Motocast USB account, but, as the new ICS contact application is nice (finally I can search in all of the contact's fields!) I'd like to use it.
Anyone has a solution or an alternative working contact app?
'use gmail' answers not accepted! I didn't open this thread to discuss the opportunity of using gmail !
Solution: use go contact ex!
I just want to share the solution I found to my problem.
Actually I had to resign to the fact that it seems that the standard ICS contacts app doesn't let you add contacts to accounts other than the google one:
- Phone account (not visible from 'account manager' but actually is were Mobile Phone Explorer can add your contacts as an option instead of Google account). This was not possible either with GB
- Motocast USB account (still visible from account manager, but with ICS it's not possible anymore to add contact to it).
What did I do?
1) Deleted Motocast USB account (its now useless for my purposes)
2) Synced Outlook contact with the Razr stating that I wanted to add the contacts to the 'phone' account (not google/gmail)
3) Use Go contact ex to manage my contacs and specified in the options just to use 'phone' contacts and add contact to it (they had been synced to Outlook with no issues!)
This is not the kind of solution I preferred as I had to install an additional app, but, at least I succeeded in keeping my personal data away from the cloud (at least having the illusion of succeeding in it )
