SMS Threading problems - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I recently switched to an unlocked HTC Hero with 2.73 firmware and i find the device great in many areas. However, i have one problem regarding SMS threading. ALL sent / received sms from one contact are displayed in only one thread It's cool to have the threaded view when the are replies back and forth on a particular topic, but i find it annoying when several days later a new sms from this given contact on a completely different topic gets added to the previous thread from the same contact.
Is this the normal behavior ? Can it be modified to behave like "mail" (i.e one thread for back and forth replies, and start another thread if it's not a reply ? or this is not possible, can i disable the threading altogether ?
Many thanks,
Romain.

Good question. I would also like to know the answer.

[Q] Disable sms conversation

Does anybody know how to turn off SMS threated mode (conversation) and make it normal like in outlook (just classic view - sorting according to date)? I had android 1.5, than tried 2.2 and 2.1 but i didnt found any option for this. Thanks for help...
Moved to Q&A as not development
Why would you want to go back to the old way? It was clearly worse. One of the greatest change I had from upgrading to a Hero was the conversation mode - just incredible. Why would you want to go back to a situation where you can't see the message you're replying to?
On topic - have you tried Handcent SMS and checked the options? That app is amazing.

thats because its sorted according to date like in Outlook. icould never use outlook with conversation mode in my work becouse it seems to me very chaotic. You only see name and number of sms, so you have to click on contact. Dont know why developers dont give us at least possibility to turn it off. i think its just a matter of small tweak or st....
The individual threads are still sorted by date though. So you still know the latest texts over the older ones, i.e. higher the contacts name the newer the text. You don't have to even look at the older texts as they're hidden in the conversation lists but available if necessary.
As I said Handcent is the most likely program to have this feature.
It's unlikely to be a "small" tweak as it requires splitting your conversations into Inbox & Outbox as well as then having multiple messages for each contact. This is a complete overhaul of the way in which it currently sorts, sends and receives messages.

[Q] sort SMS by contact name

Hi guys, I hope you can tell me something.
I came from an Htc HD which obviously had Sense.
I was used to the fact that sms from contacts with multiple numbers were grouped by name.
So if John had more then one phone, and sent me messages from all his phones, they would all appear as John's messages (same thread).
Now I came to Android, I installed a number of different messaging apps, and none does the same.
Is it just me that needs such a feature?
Is it even possible on Android?
Go SMS Pro, Messaging, Handcent SMS, all show the exact same behaviour: a thread for each number!
So now my friend John has two or three threads, depending on which phone he has in his reach at the moment...
I can't believe I'm the only one that can't stand this...
Merge similar contacts together.

Man... You think I'm stupid or you didn't read my post.
I HAVE single contacts with multiple numbers and still they appear as separate threads.
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA App
Same problem here
I'm on the HTC HD2 with a gingerbread rom, been bugged by the exact same problem for months. Seems all I can find are other people mentioning the problem, and no solution :/
Solution found?

sms being sent to multiple contacts but only addressed to one

First off as a new Android user (finally made the move from blackberry) i just want to say thanks to all who have posted in the past as it has been a lot of help in learning about this device.
I have 1 contact that when i sms it is sent to 2 other contacts on my list. When ever i recieve a sms from this contact the sender info lists the other 2 contacts.
As noted above this is my first android device (Samsung GS2 LTE Rogers) it would appear that it is more of an android question and not a device issue.
I have tried removing the contact and even without the person in my address book the sms is still sent to all 3 even though only one number was added. The sender info is changed to the 3 numbers.
Has anyone came across this issue? Any idea for a fix? Have done some googling but have not came across any similar experiences.
The phone is rooted just to freeze bloatware but has stock rom and Gingerbread 2.3.5. I was experiencing the issue prior to rooting so i doubt that is a cause.
I do not have any groups in my contact list.
Any info would be greatly apperciated.
Thanks in advance.

[Q] Merging multiple text threads into one continiously

I recently got an SGS5, and I noticed something that has started to annoy me. Judging on what I can read online and from googling I am not the only one annoyed by it. But so far no one has actually provided a viable and working solution as far as I see it.
Problem:
I have several contacts with multiple phone numbers under them, and when I get texts from the various number it creates one new thread/conversation pr number they text me from and its getting to the point where it is getting annoying. Isn't there some way to fix or correct this?. ie where the phone defaults to respond to the last number it got a text from, from that contact, or that it simply defaults to sending a text out on the default selected number or asks?.
I am not looking for something or a solution that will merge all my threads back in time, but for something that works going forward so that all threads created from today and onwards gets merged.
I know Google Hangout apparently can do this, but I don't want to use Google Hangout as my default messaging app, and I am presently using HandCent in case there is a setting inside Handcent that I just need to set.
But I hope someone might have a working solution to my problem/issue & thanks in advance.

Looking for: app with Dual SMS inbox for Dual SIM phones

Hello there,
I have been lurking on XDA since I got my first Galaxy Nexus. The kind souls over here are very supportive, and I can usually find the solutions myself via XDA's search function. However, I am having trouble getting any favorable recommendation for messaging app in Dual SIM phones.
Throughout the years with Android, I always root my phone, and back up each App with Titanium Backup. I would back up my SMS to GMail via "SMS Backup+", and sync it back to my new phone whenever I have one.
This is the first time I try to utilize a Dual SIM phone, and I am having trouble backing up the SMS. You see, the SMS Backup app which I use does not differentiate whether the short messages were meant for SIM1 or SIM2. And when I restore the SMS to a new (single SIM) phone, messages for both SIM1 and SIM2 will appear on the same phone! I am searching for ways to organize my SMS, and I figure that having separate inbox might help in my scenario.
Eg: messages for SIM 1 will arrive at a particular app/inbox, while messages for SIM2 go to another app/inbox. All I need to do is to back up the app/inbox selectively and restore accordingly.
Similar questions were raised by other forumers in various forums, unfortunately, nobody were able to give any recommendation in the previous threads:

I understand that most likely such technology/coding are not available yet, but I am hoping to try asking the question once more to see if anyone has any recommendation or work-around for my concern.
Thank you in advance for kind souls who are willing to help here.
P.S: Pardon me on my terrible English. It is not my native language.
