Hi
I am hoping for a little help, have an O2 XDA pocket pc, unlocked on the virgin network
Had all of my contacts on the sim card, which I have copied across onto the pda itself
When I receive a sms text message it just tells me the telephone number its from but, not the actual name, even though the number is in my contacts
Can anyone help please ?
Thanks

Hi guys, I am very proud of my new xda, however I could not identify who sent me the sms messages since it does not show the senders names unlike other mobile phones, we cant search by phone numbers too I live in the Philippines where sms is part of our lives! Please help me Thanks in advance
Download the cab-file from the following link, copy it onto your XDA and execute (doubble-click) it. That's all
http://www.mywirelessoffice.com/xda/sms_fix.cab
there is a free utility from paragon software to show names on sms, however it works only for the list view && received sms
take a look at penreader.com, it's lying there somewhere
ROKO: is it the same? mine is called sms_names.ppc.arm.cab I think, does it fix sent items etc...?
thank you very muchb
thanks so much guys, now im super happy with my xda, if only they made it a tri band phone so we can also use it in the us, anyways I very happy now, thanks again guys

I don't know. You could compare the two by looking into the cab files using WinZip. I wouldn't worry too much about it, there are more way's of doing the same thing.

That's funny, I was wondering why I was getting more traffic on that site lately...
The copy I have may not be the most current, though it does seem to work fine. It was not an official release. I can't recall the URL for the official release, but I know you can find it in Google.

Hi, I've followed this subject word for word, but my XDA keeps telling me theres no file associated with the three files you get when you unzip the downloaded file?? can you help?
HI,
My XDA only shows the number of who is calling and not the name. Anyone know how to fix this?
need to add to your contact list
Please... that is not an informative answer.
There is a piece of software you need to download. Unfortunately I do not have the URL, but I believe if you search this forum it has been posted before.

Martin
Thanks guys
I think xchange had given enough information. I didn't need any Software to see the callers name.
Just have to sync your XDA with your PC or add the contacs manualy to your XDA and it will be shown on calling.
If you want to see the name at incoming SMS you need a little bit of Software. It's called SMS__Name from Paragon. It can be downloaded for free. Just search the frum to find the link / Instructions....
Regards
Stefan
I agree its simple as Xchange said no need for additional software its a minor setting in the XDA.

Sorry. I misread - I thought this was about SMS

erm after opening these files, how do I get them to work on the phone? they just appear as a lot of random files.
Rich
.CABs are executable on the device!

For a short time I used ANNYway MMS...
Hello,
Me and my trusty G1 have recently moved out of the US. Im running CM's latest, and just like the stock ROM, phone numbers stored in the phone have the xxx-xxx-xxxx US format. This format does not apply to most countries outside of the US. So here when someone calls (or when im trying to add a new contact) phone numbers tend to look weird since phone numbers here have an XX-XXX-XXX format (8 digits total), and so they end up showing as XXX-XXX-XX, which is just confusing.
So in short, is there any way to stop the dashes from showing up in the call log/ caller id/adding new contact form??
Thanks alot!!
No one has the same problem or has heard of a fix to this???
Hi, my G1 & I moved out of the US recently, too. The way I did it was to change all the numbers while logged in to Gmail in my browser. It was tedious but it lets you use a proper keyboard and mouse instead of trying to do it on the phone. All you really need to do is type the new prefix/country code once, and then cut and paste it in front of all the US numbers. Gmail will then just push it out to the phone right away. Hope this helps...
My biggest concern isn't fixing the already existing numbers in my phone book. My concern is when adding a new number or when someone not in my phone book calls, the number looks confusing because of the existence of the dashes.
But thanks anyway for your suggestion.
I have MoreLocale2 installed and when i changed it to my language i got the correct formatting.
Hey I just wanted to bump this thread to point out that morelocale 2 worked like a charm! so thanks a lot for the suggestion
Sorry to bump an old thread but i'm having exactly the same problem and its driving me mad I cant get MyLocale 2 working, it doesn't take the dashes from my numbers
Old thread, but might help someone: I also had the dash problem although in Gmail my contacts had no dashes. Changing the locale from US to UK removed the dashes for me (Home/Settings/Locale and Text/Select locale/ English (UK)).

Thanks aygunes, this is a realy easy solution to have the numbers format without dashes.
Find a way to export your contacts to a CSV file or a single vCARD file. Then you can just use something like a shell command:
Code:
cat file.csv | tr -d '-' > cleanfile.csv
or just edit the resulting file with any text editor and import back. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1417184
[EDIT] I forgot that probably ALL phone numbers are stored without dashes in the (latest) contacts database.

I have a similar issue. I'm in Brazil and I'm using a Galaxy S 3 that I bought in US. Our numbers are stored as (XXX)prefix-XXXX-XXXX.
When I receive a sms or a call it doesnt show my contact name... only the numbers. How can I change this?
A friend has a S3 he bought in here... when he dials any number they appear without dashes and spaces like this XXXXXXXX. When I dial it appears XX XXXX-XX.
Anyone could help?

If you got the contact saved in phonebook, then you can create new SMS to that contact and it will be send.
It's because you send SMS first without prefix, then receive SMS with prefix and the number in thread gets overwritten from nonprefix to prefix.
If you have prefix in sms center number in settings, remove it.
thank you for your reply yeah i thought that myself when the first one sent then the next one didnt i thought i wonder if its adding the prefix back on with the next message thanks for your reply i will remove the prefix in the centre number. i was in 2 minds as to do that but now i have a second opinion i will try it thanks bro for your reply
Jonny,
I had the same problem as you with this ROM (on Virgin) and nothing I did would make SMS's send - either new, or replies.
I have now installed Aeroflyluby's VDG Mango 8107 and with that ROM, sometimes I can send SMS - but it is not consistent AND GPS works on that ROM (it doesn't work for me on Miro's ROM).
HOWEVER, on VDG Mango 8107, I find it impossible to set the SMS Message Centre - when I fill in the number and hit "save" as the phone either hangs or the Message Centre number remains blank. On this ROM, I have also tried using the HTC Connection setup (which works fine on Miro's ROM's) but it complains that it's database is empty.
So, here is a very long shot. Check out HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Phone\CallIDMatch - which should be a dword. I think that you might find in Miro's ROM it is set to 7, but for the UK we need it set to 10 (to match the last 10 digits of a mobile or landline number).
On the VDG Mango 8107 ROM, this key doesn't exist - and I don't have permissions to create it - but if it is already there, you should be OK to change it.
Good luck!
thanks for your reply im not sure about fiddling with the registry. back in wm6.5 i was always making a mess of the registry but, i must admit i made some really good tweaks with editing the registry, but, in wp7 id rather leave it up to the experts on that one as i have never owned a wp7 phone before so im not sure how things will react.
thanks for your input tho , much appreciated
