Got a strange problem with my new T-Mobile G2 (HTC Hero) ...
If I try setting up & syncing my Exchange email I get all sorts of error messages ranging from username/password incorrect (when I know it isn't) to a long winded one "Your Microsoft Exchange Server account does not have permission to synchronize with your current settings. Contact your Exchange Server administrator" ...
Previously the same Exchange server (2010) was used to sync email via the MS Exchange application on an iPhone and also a XDA.
I'm guessing there is a bug or anomaly with the Exchange application on the T-Mobile rom (it incidentally came shipped with the latest 2.73.110.26 October rom) as I downloaded and successfully set-up/synced my email using the TouchDown v4.0.0008 application - and also using another Exchange application (Contacts Sync) from Wryke.
I've spoken to the Server admin, who has done what he can, but he's thinking (as I am) that there is a problem with the built in app ...
Oh, and am I right in thinking that because it has come shipped with the latest (2.73.110.26) rom then I can't flash a custom rom at this time ?
Anyone have any suggestions ?
Cheers

I had the same issue yesterday when I forgot to check the box "This server requires an encrypted SSL connection". I've never had to check this box before when we ran Exchange 2007 but we moved to Exchanged 2010 yesterday just before a reset the exchange account on my Hero.
Give it a try, it may work

exchange 2010 + htc hero - which settings ?
I was wondering, which settings do you have on your exchange 2010 server ?
On exchange 2003 it worked flawlessly (almost), but on exchange 2010 I keep getting the "failed to create account..".
Initial login seems to work fine, but after selecting what to sync it fails.
I dont have a paid SSL certificate, only a self-signed one, but I dont imagine that causing too many problems (or am I wrong?).
Any help appreciated
Hello,
Does anyone know what to change to resolve this? I still have this issue whether or not the SSL box is checked.
If you are using an internal certificate, try copying certificate to SD and installing, also if you are still running hero 1.5 you must make sure exchange 2010 servers mobile settings are configured to allow "unsupported devices" you may also have to disable password policy just for your phone on the server
I know this is a really old thread, but you might try checking to see if your password is about to expire. In my case I got this error and it was because my password was about to expire (the Windows AD notifies you when you log into a Windows PC on the AD domain). Once I changed my password everything started working again. I guess this is technically a bug with Android because Android should be able to tell you that instead of saying that you're unauthorized.

Exchange Support
My question too, my boss just got one today, and I have to set it up to sync to our exchange server. Has anyone been able to do this successfully?
Well it depends...
If you need a security certificate there might be a slight problem. You'll need to contact the admin of the exchange server and have him approve the phone. I never got that far with my sysadm - I just got a blank "no"!
So I searched for an alternative and came up with two apps that'll do the job:
-Touchdown - didn't work with my mail, but got the contacts and the calendar.
-RoadSync - works beautifully, but has issues with contacts. It's still beta and free for another month so they might come up with a fix before the full version airs.
Get'em both in Market.
Mobile-Review has an in-depth review of the Hero, and a two-part look at Android (the Hero is the first Android device in Russia).
There's bound to be some answers to what the PIM apps can do and what not.
The text translates pretty good in google translate! Take a look:

I believe that a security certificate will not be a problem for me. I have an account on a hosted exchange service, thru Sherweb, for my personal use.
Outlook 2007
I'd like to ask if it is possible to synchronize directly with Outlook 2007 (cable or bluetooth), thanks and sorry for my english

What are the exact settings for your yahoo account?
I do not mean your email and password ... that should be on your side only.
I mean server, port, protocol, etc.
Did you configured it as premium (IMAP) or POP3 or Microsoft Exchange Active Synch?
Which security type have you selected (no, SSL, TLS, ...)?
You can specify all this settings in manual config.
I think that Yahoo only supports POP3 (pop.mail.yahoo.com) for incoming and SMTP (smtp.mail.yahoo.com) for outgoing mails.
But I am not sure as I do not have a Yahoo mail account.
If your Yahoo mail synchronization worked before, you have enabled SMTP already at Yahoo for your account.
But what happened that this does not work any more?
Have you changed a special setting, another account, firmware, installed or un-installed an app?
Sometimes it is helpful to wipe the cache in recovery mode (Volume UP + Home + Power).
Good luck !
Yes i updated my firmware frm 2.3.3 to 2.3.5 last week and actualy never used my yahoo after that so do know when it started today i tried to mail but it gave error sending failed not a secure conection so i deleted the acount and tried to setup up again now its just not seting up giving me error i mentioned before i tried all settings imap pop3 ticked accept all ssl certificate n saw bt no use it says unable to connect
P.s :gmail is working fine
I installed k-9 app and it easily setup my yahoo acount and i can mail through it too dont know what went wrong with the default application(social hub)
stil i would like to know what went wrong if anyone could help
I know this may sound stupid, but can you get into the Yahoo account via the web (on the phone or PC)? At least this will confirm you have the correct username/email address and password.
What server settings did you put in?
Brother i said i can access now via k9 but still not via the default social hub and yes i can acces through pc and mobile browser too
i tried all the possible settings in the social hub like pop3; imap ;ssl certificate on; accept all ssl certificate but no use so currently i m using k9
i think it has to do something with the certificate validation as the error says so but i dont know the solution to it
p.s : phone not rooted
Had the same error today. Read somewhere to change the Yahoo account's outgoing settings on the phone to SSL with accept all certificates, but that didn't help. So I changed security type to None, and all mail starting flowing out of the outbox again. Guess next time I get the error I'll change back to SSL...
I cant change the outgoing settings of server unless i login and i cant setup only the yahoo account so i dnt get option of manuly editing outgoing server
This is an SSL problem, android does not always include all chained root certificates.
You will still get an error like this:
Cannot safely connect to server.
(java.security.InvalidAlforithmParameterException: trusteAnchors.isEmpty())
Certificate chain[0]:
Subject: CN=(SSL common name here), OU=Domain Control Validated - RapidSSL(R), OU=See
etc...
This needs to be fixed in the build.
I get this problem running latest android 2.3.7, CM7 with SavagedZen Kernel
Would love a fix so I can use SSL again.
Juststarted receiving this error message TODAY. No changes or updates to anything on my phone...anybody know how to fix this.
I also starting getting this today (Cox email). Changing the SSL option to "SSL (Accept all certificates)" fixed it for me.
after sougote
On the email settings tap on outgoing settings and change security type to none.
That worked for my AOL account it might work for others. Worth a try anyway.
i'm facing the same problem...
solution is go to application->setting->Account and sync->add account..
Then yahoo account that I put in account&sync will auto display in mail..
So I didn't facing the giving the error(java.security.cert.certpathvalidatorExceptio n:trust anchor for certification path not found)...:fingers-crossed:

I've been using Att imap.mail.att.net for years for inbound mail (on my Android phone using 4.4.2 ) and ATT mail stopped receiving on July 25th for no obvious reason. I fussed with it a while and fortunately was able ot figure it out. If you follow my steps it should work:
Another contributor mentioned "can't safely connect to server" is actually an SSL error message. He's right... for reasons unknown they've changed something about SSL.
You must change your SSL setting from SSL to the alternative : SSL (accept any certificate) The phone informs you it is testing the connection after you change this. with just SSL it will fail, but once you've changed it you will notice the error message has changed.
Once you observe the test is passing, you have the original problem fixxed, but I still had to mop up the existing mess. Here's what I did:
1.) jotted down all the settings in the imap screen including my account name etc.
2.) Removed the account (with imap all messages are still on the server and will come back later)
3.) reboot (this may have been superfluous
4.) reinstalled the mail account using the jotted down settings ... and don't forget .. set to SSL (accept any certificate)
That should do the trick.... Take care
i have a problem connecting my tab to the company server, i can't use the e-mail through the exchange, i put the same parameters like my HTC mobile but nothing work, it always said the server need to change my security setting and nothing happened after that.... any help
as an exchange admin, i know there could be a ton to this. they could limit it to client certs, could be limits on your number of devices activated,or just wrong settings or ssl certs. its a loaded question unfortunately.
it was from the application equipped with the tab
the problem solved by installing the Touchdown HD for Tab... it is working fine now and I can get my mails, contacts and calender... It is so obvious, the problem coming from the exchange application coming with the Tab and i hope Samsung can come over this problem soon...
Free app on amazon appstore today is an email client (enhanced email) that allows exchange... just a few hours left, though...
Hello guys. I got my sgs2 with stock firmware 2.3.3 two weeks ago. I was able to set up every account flawlessly except for my exchange office email. It keeps displaying 'set up could not finish/ Cannot connect to server'. All my entries are correct and my network too is good. I tried connecting on my former device, samsung vibrant, and worked flawlessly. So also on some other devices i tried. I have read in this forum several solutions and inhave tried them all. Connect through wifi , using the exchange account under 'accounts and sync ', using 'edge' only type of connevtivity , i have also updated to stock 2.3.5 and still having the same problem. I dont want to change the email apk as some did and will prefer using the stock email app (not third party app)
Please, does anyone having any idea on getting my exchange account to connect on the sgs2? I need to sync my exchange contacts, mails and calender. Will appreciate every response to solving this problem.
Thanks guys

I know you don't want to use a third party app but your problem may be on the administrator side of your account. Try the demo of Touchdown Exchange and see if that works. If it does, then you know it's a samsung problem.
Btw, there is a limit to the number of phones you can add to your email account with exchange. Each time you put on a new rom, it treats this as a new phone. Through owa or outlook, check how many mobile devices are registered to your account.
Setup for Office 365 Exchange Account (Small Business)
I just got my SGS2 today and tried setting up my Office365 Exchange account.
I ran into issues, getting a similar error message to OP.
The solution was:
1st Screen
- on the 1st setup screen, fill in username and password
- choose "Manual Setup"
- when asked what type of account, choose "Exchange Activesync"
2nd Screen
- there are 3 fields: a) Domain:user name b) Password c) Exchange Server
a) format is domain\user name (i.e. whatever.com\[email protected])
b) already filled in
c) normally, server address is m.outlook.com when using Office365. Samsung dares to be different - you need to find your actual server address, not the generic one.
Go to this address to get details for filling in these fields: http://help.outlook.com/en-us/140/dd936215.aspx
Once I accepted the various activation messages, an error message flashed very briefly, but then sync was established and I synced very quickly.
I think the message was: "Cannot open connection with server due to security error", but I can't be sure
I ignored that error message, as sync seems to be working perfectly, with "push" activesync.
This was discussed on the Office 365 forum. Here's the link: http://community.office365.com/en-us/f/160/t/5282.aspx
I realise you may not have Office 365 Exchange, but I'm posting this in case it may be of help in some way.
P.S. Must say, I'm very chuffed that Samsung's native Exchange client supports Tasks and SMS sync, in addition to the standard options. SMS Sync seems faster than it was on HD2...
thanks guys. I really appreciate all the responses. I have tried out the solutions provided . I installed the touchdown app and it worked straight away. my mails, calendar, contacts & talks sync completely.
I also read through the links provided above and really never made any error initially on setting up my exchange account. Though I still followed through the steps/settings for exchange setup and still encountered the problem. one thing I like to clarify is that I am not sure if the server in my office is 'office 365' has being explained on that site. I think we use the exchange 2007. if the exchange server type is the issue, will using one if the email apk posted under themes and apps section work for me if installed? Because, I really will prefer using a stock email app. or is there any other way I can get the stock email app to work without giving me those error messages?
Also, will installing one of the custom roms get it working?
Hi Guys,
Since about a week ago (XXLPH firmware), my Exchange email stopped working.
Just says Connection Error all the time.
I can wipe the email settings, then enter them again, it will connect and start downloading mail, then stops and says connection error.
My Transformer is fine with all the same settings.
I upgraded the software to XXLPQ, did a full wipe and Factory Reset and still the same.
Any ideas please?
Thanks.
Faced the same problem, reverted back to GB all is well...
Tried lot of things but didn't work with ICS using Samsung email client, although Maildroid was working fine.
Same here, but only with my work account (Exchange 2010) - works fine with my (hosted) personal Exchange account (which is on Exchange 2007 AFAIK).
It's been this way with all ICS leaks. Yesterday I thought I got it working by adding the accounts the other way around, but today I'm getting connection error again. I think it's got something to do with the Device Administrator setting, because I never get that prompt for the second account I add, whereas I'm pretty sure I did on GB.
Using Enhanced Email in the meantime which works fine, but the Samsung client has some great features

I too have the same issue - Connecting to the Exchange Server at work (Exchange 2007), I have no issue. The Exchange Server at home (2010) continually shows up with "Connection Error". XXLPH installed here too.
Me too
Been driving me crazy. I agree it seems to be about the RSA device permissions. I think I'll have to go back to GB. Dammit, I wiped everything and have wasted all of today on this ...

They say replying to yourself is the first sign of madness ...
But I wonder if Samsung will fix this before pushing out the official UK update next week.
Hmmm ... I'm surprised more people haven't reported this.
Same here. Updated yesterday to XXLPQ and have had the Connection Error ever since...

I sent a link to this thread to Samsung Support, let's see what happens...
I've been looking into this (and learning a lot about EAS at the same time) - and have narrowed it down to XXLPH not liking the security policies contained within the Exchange ActiveSync Mailbox Policy that is being used. trouble is, no amount of fiddling has given me a long term solution (I have got it to work for short periods of time though).
I suspect that installing an Exchange 2007 CAS in my infrastructure and pointing my Galaxy S II to that will provide a workaround - but that's hardly a long-term solution. If that works, then forcing the handset to connect using an older version of the ActiveSync protocol should also work. This may be a more achievable workaround if I can figure out how to do it!
it's also failing with gmail/google mail for apps added as an Exchange Activesync. when upgrading from GB, 1 of 2 of my gapps accounts stopped getting new mail. after a full wipe, both accounts now fail to fetch any mail or folders. logcat shows the error "Email:SecFeatureWrapper(6658): Was not initiated" while refreshing mails.
I'm having the exact same issues but for me they seem to be related to Hotmail (and it's Exchange 2003-like EAS protocol. The moment I add m.hotmail.com as an Exchange account, my other corporate and Office365 stop syncing.
The moment I remove the Hotmail account, all other Exchange accounts start working again. Very strange.
You guys added Exchange2003 or Hotmail mailboxes? I found this issue on nearly all SGS2 ICS build.. currently on LPQ.

Aha! That explains it. I couldn't figure out why everything was working tickety-boo this morning and then the Exchange (Work) stopped working. Must have been cause I added hotmail as an exchange server too.
Indeed that also explains why I thought it was working when I added the other account first - I guess it was in fact working up to the point where I added the second account ;-)

I only have Exchange 2003. It was working fine until about two weeks ago.
Trying K-9 mail now, Touchdown doesn't work either.
I've tried the exchange mail app from one of the ICS leaks. My main issue is the scheduled mail just not seem to work. For peak time I don't need push mail, only needs to check every 4 odd hours, but even though I've set it up like that it still keeps on pushing mail whenever a new email comes in.
Can anyone confirm that the email client works properly with only one account installed?
I would be happy enough to do that, and use the MS Hotmail dedicated app for my personal email if I knew it worked.
Anyone doing this?

Exchange 2010 Problem
I had this problem with an Exchange 2010 account when the email retrieval size was all works just fine on 100kb, no connection errors at all. Although Hotmail seems fine when email retrieval size is all.
I have used all ICS Beta and official ICS Versions. All Version have the Exchange Bug.
