Problem with buttons - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a strange problem that hasn't been reported.
My volume buttons, my phone- & my menu-button won't work from time to time.
I have moments that everything works properly, but normally all four of them don't react( no backgroundlight also).
And one more extra with this, when the buttons won't work, sometimes the Hero thinks that i'm pressing the volumedownkey numerous times. That means that he puts himself in vibrating mode en keeps vibrating, i can stop this by going standby or pushing a working button. Sometimes it stops, sometimes it starts again after two seconds.
Hope to have someone who can help

sounds like a hardware issue to me. what did you do to make sure these problems aren't related to some software you have installed?

HD2 Hardware buttons not working?

I have a bizarre problem with my HD2, which seems to be hardware based ... kind of....
*Sorry if this ends up being really long*
Basically my Volume up and down buttons have stopped working along with the windows button and "back" button.
However, the "home", "call" and "end call" buttons still work, but not properly.
When the phone boots you can briefly see the windows (not HTCSense) volume indicator pop up just before Sense loads, which didnt used to happen.
Once the phone has loaded up only the call, home and end call buttons do anything, they light up the buttons when pressed, and the "home" button does indeed take you "home" and the "end call" button locks the phone and turns off the screen, however, pressing the "call" button doesnt bring up my call list, I have to use a soft key.
I also cannot bring up the hard reset menu, holding the volume keys and booting doesnt do anything, which is why i think its hardware based???
Another interesting problem is that the "up, down, left, right" soft buttons dont work on the keyboard (since this all started)
I had this issue about 6 months ago, I flashed my phone, to no avail .... but about 6 hours after flashing it, it just started working.
The only think I have tweeked on the phone really is installing CHT as I've been booting to Android for the last couple of months, which now I cant do as it hangs after about 5 seconds of booting.
ANY suggestions would be great.
Same problem here I got the phone from craigslist and same problem as above. Can anyone tell as if is hardware or software related problems and if anyone solve this before ?
Any help will be much appreciated.
Sorry I've only just replied, but I ended up having to send mine to HTC, they ended up replacing the main board (apparently). So definately hardware. Sorry bud.

[Q] Htc Hd2 Volume goes up by itself???

I fell asleep next to my phone one night and when i woke up and tried to wake up my phone the volume menu opened up and acted like if i was pressing the volume bar repeatedly. I turned it off and on again and once it boots into Windows the same thing, if i try to press volume down it will and it will go right back up again. The Volume rocker button is fine and not stuck. I found out though if i hold up and down before windows mobile boots up it will allow me to operate as normal but once i let go It goes back to the volume going all the way up. I have flashed different roms to no avail.
Does anyone have any ideas to what could be causing this?
I just started having the same problem with a Samsung Omnia 7. It fell into some water, let's say it was a bucket, i pulled it apart and thoroughly dried it. Seemed to work perfectly for a few hours, now the volume thing.
Our HD2's hard buttons are not invincible and I learned that the hard way. After lots of use on my phone the send, home, end, and volume down buttons stopped working. I also believe my end button is stuck on because it always boots up on its own, meaning I can't shut it down and leave it off. I have to take the battery out of it.
My advice is if you can find a way to use "soft" buttons to navigate your phone do it and save yourself the hassle of breaking the hard ones for when you need them. Good luck!

I had a few drips of water it my hd2 and a couple days later, I rebooted and after it rebooted, the volume is stuck on UP. I took it apart. I has nothing to do with the button itself as I removed the button and it's still stuck. Still no solution yet.
Hi,
Did anyone find a solution for this? I had to hard reset my HD2 couple of days ago. After the reset, I installed all the apps, one after another. The phone worked fine for a day, until this afternoon when it started acting crazy. First symptom was that when you type some numbers of the "Phone" screen to look up a contact, I was not able to delete the using the back button. Other keys like up, down, left, right too didn't work in the SMS compose screen. I restarted the phone thinking that it would resolve the issue, but worse. The volume control showed up just after the boot and the "volume up" tone was constantly going off as though I was pressing the volume-up button constantly. I tried rebooting and remove the battery, SD etc, uninstalled few programs, but to no avail.

[Q] Menu button started acting like Home button -- any fix?

My HTC Hero was working fine without incident for quite some time. I did not introduce any software changes to it. But suddenly, for no apparently good reason, I'm seeing two things happening now:
Menu button pressed acts like Home button, no matter what screen you are on (this is terrible, as in some screens the menu button is required to access certain options)
Search button acts like the green call button, bringing up the recent call list and the dial menu.
Volume button decrease goes nowhere. Actually, one click bumps the volume up then down one notch. The increase button is fine. One must click and hold the decrease button to get the volume to go down.
I'm not all that bothered by the volume button, but the menu button is critical.
I searched the Internet extensively and found one other person mention this simultaneous fault of the volume button and menu button. But unfortunately, they weren't able to get a resolution, or they simply never came back to the thread to update.
I did a full shutdown and restart, but no change. The only environmental change has been an increase in humidity. I am by the shore for the weekend. I took my phone kayaking, but it was sealed in a plastic bag and never got wet. But perhaps moisture in the air has something to do with it? It does seem more like a hardware issue than software problem.
Has anyone run into this problem and been able to rectify it?
I discovered another peculiar behavior.
When the phone was idle for some time, I awoke it with the END button, then a screen swipe to get to the main screen. Pressing "Menu" brought up the proper sub menu toolbar. However, going back and pressing it again showed the wrong behavior again (acting like the HOME button).
Then for a stretch of time, if you tapped the menu button lightly and quickly, the sub menu toolbar would appear. A standard button push will cause it to act like the HOME button. But unfortunately, this did not last. I set the phone down, came back later, and this "light tap" would only act like the HOME button.
I did NOT see any erratic behavior prior to this, like the MENU button mostly working fine and only occasionally acting like the HOME button. It was a rather sudden change. Given the behavior, I'm starting to wonder if something has built up inside under the button bezel that is doing this. Perhaps taking it apart and giving it a good cleaning would resolve it?
I've been finding that every once in a while the MENU button function momentarily goes back to normal operation. It's usually after having left the phone untouched for a few hours. But it works just once or twice, then starts behaving like the HOME button. From this behavior, I can't figure out if this is hardware or software related.
Anyway... I don't see anybody having offered a solution for this, either here or on other forums. I guess I'll just have to retire this phone.
I'm really baffled by this very strange behavior.
My Hero is still experiencing this problem most of the time, but sometimes the menu button will work properly. When it does, I can click the button again in the exact same way, and it will stop working right. Other times, I can dismiss the pop-up menu, then click the menu again and it works maybe 2-3 times. Then after that, it's back to the "HOME" button behavior. Once it does it again, I cannot coax it to work properly again, no matter how many different variations I try. I have to wait for a long while before trying again and finding that it works properly again. If it was a hardware problem, the behavior should be pretty random. Given how it behaves, I have to believe this is software. Now... how the software (firmware) could become corrupt like this is beyond me. I'm thinking that maybe restoring the phone back to the original ROM and then rooting it all over again could get things back to normal... anyone reading this agree or disagree?
Try ButtonRemapper: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9399440&postcount=1
If needed, KeynrTracker.apk will allow you to identify the code for individual buttons.

Thanks for the suggestion. But somehow, miraculously, the problem resolved on its own. I guess it must be a hardware issue, as I didn't make any software changes. I can press the menu button repeatedly and it works normally now. Really weird. I guess that perhaps there was some debris or residue buildup inside that eventually worked itself out.

[Q] Extreme infinite loop - restart won't stop, power button works

Hello guys, I'll try to be as brieff as possible:
My cousin has a SGS3, which suddenly started showing the power options screen (when you long press power button). Now his phone restarts on its own every time. When you insert the battery, it turns on by itself. If you try to access download mode or recovery mode, it does it but restarts again. I read it may be the power button is not working properly, but I dissassembled the phone and the switch is works normally (it's not broken, either stuck). I read several solutions about clearing cache and stuff, but it just keeps restarting! Like if someone were pushing the powerbutton every time. Btw, he discovered he can turn the phone on and actually stop the phone from restarting if he continously presses the power button and menu button alternatively without stopping (which is useless). When he stops doing that, 3 secs later, it restarts again. Any suggestions?
It's a hardware fault, did you test the button with a meter?
If yes then something else is shorted, to power on when the battery is inserted.

Ah, so this is merely hardware. I did not test it, but now it seems clear something is wrong on the inside (which, unfortunately, I cannot help with). Thanks mate!

Solution for Random Reboots(MOTO E)

I have been playing with my MOTO E for quite a few days.
The ONE thing that kept bothering me for all these days were the Random Reboots.
After trying many thing finally I have come up with a practical solution to this problem.
I have been having random reboots with the Stock Rom as well as other Custom Roms. Usually while pressing the power button the power menu used to appear for few seconds and then without pressing anything the phone to restart, and this happened with the stock rom as well as other custom roms. I had contacted Motorola, they had asked me to boot into SAFE mode and see if the problem persisted , and it did. So I started using the trail and error method and what I found out that it's a hardware issue, or a issue with how our power button works.
SOLUTION :
So basically what I did is I replaced the power button with the Volume buttons for waking up the device, and for putting it to sleep i assigned the pull up gesture(which is usually for launching google now). I assigned the sleep function in CM11 for the pull up gesture(if you are using the stock rom you'll need to use screen lock apps which allows that function).
After applying this, I have been using my phone for about a month now, WITHOUT a single random reboot.
This is a simple yet effective solution.
Hopefully this'll help you and save you those annoying random reboots.
Can you please explain in detail ? I am using stock rom, and my phone reboots randomly few times a day.

Use "Pocket Lock" application to lock and unlock/wake your device instead of the power button and check if the problem persist...!!
Hello,
as I was going mad with the "Power Button random reboot", I discovered your helpful post. I didn't know it was possible to set the phone to wake up on volume buttons. On the other hand CM allows you to put your phone in sleep mode touching the notify bar twice.
Half a day with these settings, it seems good, Moto E has a real problem with power button, now I have to control myself not to touch it anymore !
Thanks.
