HTC Hero on Three.co.uk - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone have a HTC Hero on 3? I'm looking to get a copy of the stock ROM from the unit. I'm a three subscriber but have an unlocked Hero bought from a third party and I'd like to get Skype working on my device. You can contact me via the boards or through this username on gmail, gtalk, etc.

I have unlocked htc hero on 3 with no problems. I don't have stock rom from three network, but you can get "skype for 3" working if you look on the market.

Wow, perfect. Thanks!

[Q] HTC Mozart Contact Groups

How do i set up a group on the htc mozart so i can send a message to lots of people all at once, i've been looking but can't find the function and we're just about to have a baby so want to know before then!
I believe this is currently not available in windows phone 7. Maybe there is an app that can do that?

[Q] HTC Peep and Skype?

Hi there,
Has anybody noticed that there is no Peep in the Flyer? It actually is installed and you can see it from the "manage apps" menu, but it is not in the menu and when I launch the Peep Trends widget it comes up empty because no Peep was configured. It works perfectly fine on my Desire HD, though.
And one more thing, on the HTC Flyer it was presented with skype in the middle of the bottom dock and yet there is no skype support for it really. Does anyone have any idea what other software can be used for video calling between Android and PC?
Thanks..
When the flyer is upgraded to honeycomb 3.1 soon google talk and skype will support video chat to pc.

Texting apps

So many SMS apps to choose from. I'm giving my SGP5 to my 10 year old, and want a simple texting app that requires no cell phone (Wifi only).
Google Voice seems good, other than a little trouble getting phone number and no MMS.
Others I'm looking at (/playstore rating): Kakao (4.5), Textnow (4.2), Heywire (4.3), Tabletalk (4.4 + $3)
Textnow looks the simplest... Want something where no one else (her friends) needs to be on the same app. Just plain texting number to number, little to no adds. Which works best?
I use talkatone personally, just need a google account set up correctly, you get to choose a number, completely free

Thanks. Decided to use Google Voice. Used her mothers cell# to get the GV#, then unchecked the cell#. Texting works fine. She now has the option of adding GrooveIP (when she gets older). I had it on the Player before I got rid of my account with factory reset, it worked well.

so you did not have to port the #?
i have a 4.2 that I would like to use also for texting. I do have a verizon phone, but if I could stay away from porting and taking on a new # it would be great.
thanks!!

Tango (SMS verification) NOT working for HTC One?

As the title states, I'm having problems with tango verifying my phone number through sms.
Heres what happens, I download the app and put in my info including email and it states that I need to verify my phone number with a sms message it will send. So I hit the SEND button and I get nothing! I've tried this both with a stock phone and with a trickdroid one and both fail to receive message.
I've looked on tango site and it states that android will automatically intercept the message and verify my account which is not happening. Is anyone else having this same issue too?
Thanks,
Tim
anyone care to do an quick download and test tango out for me???
It installed just fine for me and even picked up my old call logs from a couple of years ago. It didn't require a verification of my number though, or at least it didn't say it did.
I'm completely stock, though, so I don't know if that makes a difference.

Are you using a 3rd party SMS app?

AT&T Messages

I've been using AT&T Messages for some time now, primarily because of the free voicemail->text transcription. For some reason, it is flagged in Google Play Store as incompatible with the HTC One (M8).
I sideloaded it (version 2.14.5.41 as of this writing) and it seems to work fine on the M8.

If not using a carrier branded rom it will flag the at&t apps as not compatable...or it just may not have been updated yet for the newest sense htc build

I guess I was unclear. I have an AT&T-branded M8 fully stock, and the Google Play Store shows my phone as incompatible with AT&T Messages. If I sideload it, it appears to work fine so I suspect that it just needs to be marked compatible in the store.

I've become more wary about downloading APKs of apps normally found in Google Play Store from other sources. If you have access to a rooted phone compatible with AT&T Messages, I recommend just copying the APK off of it.

Can someone post the latest APK from June 4? I'm not able to download it at the moment.

AT&T Messages APK 2.15.2.54
I've attached the latest AT&T Messages APK for sideloading.
I think I finally realized why AT&T Messages is not whitelisted for the HTC One (M8); it looks like the included Messages app is customized to work with the Visual Voicemail offering, rather than AT&T Messages:

Does AT&T Messages still do text transcription?

Does the AT&T Messages app still do text transcription of voicemail? I have an M7, and after I changed plans (switched from a legacy plan to Mobile Share plan) the AT&T Messages app stopped transcribing voicemails. I worked with Tech Support for months trying to get it working again, but nothing worked. I noticed the AT&T M8 comes pre-installed with an 'HTC Visual Voicemail' app that apparently offers voicemail text transcription. Was hoping this would have been included on the Sense 6.0 update for the M7 which just rolled out, but it wasn't. I'm literally thinking of upgrading to the M8 just to get ths HTC Visual Voicemail app. Can anyone confirm that the HTC Visual Voicemail M8 transcribes voicemail just like (or hopefully better than) the AT&T Messages app used to? If so, why would anyone with an M8 want to install AT&T Messages anymore?

I can't really compare to the regular at&t messages vs the new htc visual voicemail/messages all in one app - but I was pleasantly surprised to have this feature for free where as I used to have to pay sprint $2.99 a month. Having said that the transcriptions don't really do well - I'd say almost 50% of the words from all the VM's I've received have been improperly transcribed making it almost impossible to get the gist of what the caller was trying to say, so I have to listen to the VM anyway. Not sure if this is on par with what the original ATT messages app did or better or worse.

Based on this article, text transcription of voicemail is included at no additional charge, or at least on the HTC One (M8).
I believe voicemail transcription is/was $2.99/mo with AT&T Visual Voicemail on other devices, while it was a free feature of AT&T Messages.
It took a couple different techs, but I was finally able to get the AT&T Messages feature removed off of my account and HTC Visual Voicemail working on my M8. The test voicemails I've had so far seem to be transcribed at about the same accuracy as AT&T Messages.

AT&T Messages was still transcribing voicemail for me. I have now switched over to HTC Visual Voicemail, which seems to transcribe voicemail at least equally as well.
One possible benefit that AT&T Messages has over HTC Visual Voicemail is I think the former backed up your content to the cloud, because you could wipe your phone (or go to a new phone) and when you set up AT&T Messages, it would sync up everything. (Although not with 100% accuracy; some MMS messages would be lost, and some SMS messages are just restored as phone calls.) As far as I can tell, HTC Visual Voicemail is just a front-end for your voicemailbox, and SMS/MMS is stored locally. There is an option to Backup SMS (only) to SD card.
Anyone know how to get ATT Messages working with Wifi only?
I'm abroad right now and want to use this app for texting.
We can send and receive texts through a computer (messages.att.net) but on the Android app, you can't send or receive a text through Wifi.
It will not work via wifi, states this on AT&T website as well,it needs cellular signal to work properly
