Uhoh.. I think I just killed my atom.. help.. - iPAQ rw6828, XDA Atom Software Upgrading

Hi guys
I'm new to this stuff, and I've been searching round on the forums for the last half hour but haven't managed to find a clear cut explanation of whether my atom is dead or not..
I just tried to install the Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM (Atom_B1.7z) I think it was the helloworld1 rom? Anyway, I was trying to install the ROM through the DSSU method and it got through to about 6% on the first step then my atom shut off
It won't respond to any button pushes now, however it will still display the charging light. I can't even get into the bootloader to reflash, however, I would have thought that the first step was only to install the OS, so I don't understand how it effects the bootloader? Unless I'm wrong?
Can anyone give me a clear cut idea as to whether my atom is dead or not?
Cheers.

ur device is bricked, if and only if, ur device won't start normally... even if u press soft-reset, hard-reset, or even bootloader mode buttons. Before panicking, do da following:
Brick Test:
1. Make sure ur device has ample battery charge. If u're not sure plug it in with da wall charger for at least 10min
2. Remove ur battery for at least 1 minute
3. Replace ur battery while observing da LED lights
4. If da LED blinks once upon battery insertion, u might have hope yet
Da only way to upgrade on a semi-brick device, is to upgrade through bootloader mode. No bootloader mode, No upgrade possible - period.
Entering Bootloader Mode on Semi-Brick Atom:
1. Remove battery for for at least 1 minute
2. Press CAMERA+RESET(stylus) simultaneously
3. Insert battery while still holding da buttons
4. Release da buttons at da same time(u should see bootloader screen)
Note: Failure to hold the buttons at da same time during battery insertion will cause it not to work.
GOOD LUCK

Thanks, ma Atom now working ) yeahh

Help I can't turn on ATOM after ROM UPDATE !! :(

yesterday I tried to update the ROM to a new one - WM6 .
I copy into my mini SD the file diskimage_ver.nb0 and I renamed it into diskimg.nb0, after the update my device turned off and I couldn't turn it on.
I pressed the camera button and soft reset so that the bootloader will boot and the PDA turned on! and bootloader appear - but I forgot to copy into the sd card the original ROM so I restart again and I copy to the mini sd card the original ROM files and I pressed the camera button and soft reset to get the bootloader again but the PDA not responding...
(When I connect the PDA to electricity the red light works and when I remove the battery and insert it again the call button and hang up buttons work (green and red light) for 1 second).
Please help me I dont know what to do
Take a look at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=314613
Thanks mightyox I did what jiggs wrote but it's not working
Be paient:
1) take out battery & SIM for a while...5 min is enough.
2) remove SD card( a must )
3) put battery back
4) press the camera button with the "POWER" button.
5) check if boot loader boots.
6) if yes, re-flash your phone with running the update Flash program in Windows environment connected with a USB cable.
Thanks dcoloane but it's not working

I had the same problem yesterday and fixed it.
To get back to the bootloader, do this exactly in chronological order:
1. remove SD Card
2. remove battery
3. hold camera button and reset (stylus) button (without the battery attached)
4. replace battery back while still holding the buttons
This will bring you back to bootloader mode.
When you get into the bootloader,
1. Plug the device to your desktop via usb.
2. Make sure that the Notification area in your desktop at least detects a device. if not, try and try until it does.
3. Download Xda-AtomExec-ENG-20060614_R060428N_EX0028.exe (ancient basic rom for my exec) but in your case, because you have an Atom only, get the one for Atom(not exec) i think this is it http://rapidshare.com/files/40346284/Xda-Atom-ENG-20060426-MOT0822.exe .
4. flash it the usual way.
5. Usualy gets stuck at 6% at the extended ROM upgrade, dont mind it, hard reset it,
6. Enter the bootloader again.
7. Flash your original ROM.

Hehehe. It's time to buy an iPhone or Atom Life. hehehe. keep on searching the forum. i'm 99% sure that you'll figure it out somehow. That's how TofClock did it so well. Just search the entire forum.
I'm having the same exact problem. The bootloader is just not coming back up after the camera and reset [it did before but I was trying to downgrade the hack atom exec on my atom pure so the wm6 install utility would work]. I figure I would let my atom sit without the battery for a while with battery out to see if I can get the backup battery to drain down before I try it again. Anyone else have this problem that has a solution??

You are not suppose to rename diskimage_ver.nb0 into diskimg.nb0 without altering the file. That's why they have different names to start with.
The files that came with normal DSUU OS mode flashing have header identifier while the files for SD Card flash do not. It is assumed that you know what you are doing during SD Card flashing, that's why there is no manual or instructions to do it. bootloader mode was meant for device service personnel use only. We use it to hack the ROM.
DO THE FOLLOWING:
1. remove the battery for one minute
2. insert the battery while observing the LED
3. if LED blinks once, your bootloader is okay
4. do as dcoloane says to the detail
IF LED doesn't blink, sorry mate, you toast your device. It's now a paper weight.
Its really strange. When I insert the battery, the orange LED will blink once really quick and charging seems to work also. But when I try to get it into bootloader mode, it just doesnt do anything. This atom pure is my back up phone [have a atom life also] so I guess I will let the battery completely drain out of it before I will try again~_~. As for the renaming, I did the same thing as the atom just couldnt recognize the file and update the rom if you didnt rename it [yeah, yeah.. I"m a noob - the problem isnt upgrading the rom which I have done many time, its the downgrading of the hack atom exec rom on my original atom that screw me up as I couldnt upgrade the wm6 due to the install file wont work as it think its a atom exec instead of the atom pure~_~]
Maybe you have to remove battery for a night to make sure it is dried out.
yeah, just going to wait for my backup battery to run out of juice before I try again. Either that or send it in for the $150 repair~_~.

It's not how long you take out the battery or the amount of battery power. It's how quick you press the bootloader mode buttons after replacing the battery. It has to be immediate; otherwise, it won't work. You also have to hold the button simultaneously for a second.
did that already. It work previously so I know I can get into bootloader. It only stop working after the flashing. Where exactly do you send it in for repair anyway?? Anyone has a tele or address as when I bought it it didnt come with a box or manual.

HELP!HP6828 WM6 flash failed and brick now!HELP!

I download the rom image from pda-hack.net in this url:
http://pda-hack.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=50
as well as the extrom, then fully charge my battery and follow these instructions:
1 diskimg.rar (40,6 Mb) - main OS, decompress this archive in SD Card root directory
2. pda-hack.net_rw68xx_ExtROM_emul.cab (3,97 Mb) - some applications needs ExtROM, this package can emulate it. Install after flash or put it into '\Cabs' directory before flashing for autoinstall
3. To flash press & hold soft-keys, then push reset, after HP logo is appear, release soft-keys and don't touch anything. After flashing device automatic reboot in hard reset.
I don't put the content of cabs.rar into my \Cabs, because I don't want to install these.
I use my 2G sandisk card to flash my 6828. When I boot into bootloader, the hp screen appears with blu1.0.5 at bottom-left cornel for about 20 minutes and then it blacks. I tried to get into bootloader mode but fails, also I tried to hardreset it ,but no response.
Is there a way to resurrect it .THANKS THANKS THANKS!!
Have you removed battery out around 5 to ten mins. and put it back at the same time with quickly go to boothloader like someone siad before?
I think it may help. Coz, I have 2 machines of 6828 me and my friend. One is fine flashing rom to WM 6 but another one meet the problem close to you. After waiting for 45 mins. I decide to remove batt around 5 mins. and bootloader again like what I read from some threat here and it works. I finally finish flash rom to WM6 both.
Good luck.
i managed to resurrect it. Take out battery, wait, press both soft key, at the same time put battery in, wait a second, wait a moment, it will be in bootloader mode.
uh.. anyone can help me?? i have the same problem.. xD

after upgrading to WM6.1 NO DTMF NO BOOT Mode

i upgraded my phone succesfully to wm6.1 (prophet shadow clean) i admit i was a hard trip, althought it was interesting.
but after days of usage i found the following,
1. am not able to send DTMF during the phone call
2. am not able to bring my phone back to Boot Screen so i can install another ROM
SPL: 2.G3.4pda
IPL: 2.09
ROM: prophet shadow CE
QTEK S200
so i tried to use the loader, it works fine and when it tries to restart my phone in the boot screen mode the phone just hangs in a black screen, and when i try to do it manually it also hangs up in that black screen.
till i remove the battery and restart the phone, and it loads the ROM very smoothly again,
i tried to hard reset the phone and try again, but i get the responces,
did anyone experienced these problems ?
btw thanks to dioxda2 and claudy fa for such hard work Thank you guys,

1. How long have you been using your battery?
2. 100% charged is not equal to a healthy battery,
3. normally, the longer year the battery you use, the weaker the battery performs.
4. just .... if you have the other new battery, test the result, or
5. you can also check if the your problem will be the same if AC charger is plugged.
just wanna assist.
1. i have been using my battery for 2 years.
2. battery lifetime varies from 1.5-2 days.
i dont have my AC charger close, so do u know another way to check battery health ?

1. you may connect the usb power to make a softreset, and to see you problem exists or not,
if no more problem, that means the battary MAY BE not healthy enough to bear the
high(for micro electronics) electric consumtion for prophet rebooting.
Good Luck. Just one of the ways to find your answer logically.
By the way, for monitoring your battery, you may use the battery status.
I can't help you with the boot issue, but your DTMF problem is already covered in the CE thread. Just open that thread and use "search this thread" from the top-bar using DTMF as keyword. Your answer will be presented within a split second.
SUCCES!
As for your dialog with dioxda2, I think you are talking about totally different things......

Together we will manage... But you are talking about battery condition as a solution for his "stuck in bootloader" problem? I am under the impression that you misunderstood his question. But then again, it could also be me who misunderstood!
I think the 'battery' may be something to do with the power provided by the USB port.
Try entering bootloader with the AC supply in.

additionally, have you tried the mini sd card flashing method (you can enter it's bootloader by holding the camera button - if thats the bootloader you're not talking about)

hi manmohan
First thing Dont Panic. There could be several things which might be responsible together making things difficult and confused.
1) Battery have not enough power.
2) Rom installation failed in the middle due to ROM file corruption.
Possible solution (Worth trying out)
----------------------------------
1) For first thing to confirm. Keep battery on charge for 1 hour though nothing is on screen. This will charge no only the main battery but also the internal CMOS battery, which is important. The redlight of charging will show that phone hardware is charging your battery. You are done with BATTERY.
2) Download fresh copy of any compatible rom on your pc. Connect any USB CARD-READER to your PC. Format SD Memory Card in FAT format (also known as FAT16) on your pc. Be sure the card is less than 2GB. If its 1 GB it is better. Copy the AL1.DIO file on SDCARD. You are done with SDCARD.
3) Try installing ROM exactly as mentioned in this THREAD
4) If still this fails, that means your battery is not yet fully charged or not working properly. Go to any mobile shop and ask them to charge the battery to full with thier charging unit and again start from step 1. Also ask the mobile technician if your battery is fine or not.
If battery is above 70% and card is FAT and ROM file is not corrupted, the installation again will go fine and you will be with your mobile again.
THIS MAY HELP, I M NOT SURE, BUT WORTH TRYING OUT THESE BASIC STEPS. HOPE THIS HELPS.
BEST OF LUCK...

Try charging your battery until the amber light turns green (it means it is fully charged). Then try to do a hard reset (pressing the power and reset button simultaneously). It will bring your phone to the last ROM that was installed.
Dear ManMohan
No need to send private emails. May be you are assuming most of us as mobile hardware experts but trust me many of us are not. I am just trying to help.
I am sure, you are very near to solution which you can do on your own. And yes, discussing all this in forum, will help many other people too now and in future, than in private emails.
--------------------------------------------
Try to find Original ROM from O2 website here http://www.myxda.com/romupgrade.aspx Select Atom Life and download Rom Installer for XP version and VISTA version both. Write them on blank CD for future reference, just in case you may need in future. DOWNLOAD THEM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE BEFORE THEY CLOSE THE SITE AS O2 IS ALREADY TAKEN OVER BY MWG (www.mwg.com)
Try installing this official ROM from your PC with this installer, while your O2 Atom life connected to PC with USB Cable. Even this method also restores many phones from boot error.
Hope this helps. Best of luck.

Yap Atom Dead bootloader is very annoying
Almost 1 year my Atom life dead or brick.I already Searched even to Service Center in our country and Atom central service in Singapure and china but none of them can fixed this this problem. I think the problem not from the JTAG Software.Officially Intel PXA 270 can be flashed by reguler flasher software with jflashm or even HJTAG and I already read detailly in the intel section site, but we can not find the right position so we can not flush directly eboot this processor. Now I am unfolding this atom for searching The right JTAG Position. But I don't know how identify this jtag point. In this side board there are many point, I think I must try one by one, do u have any idea?

try this :
Brick Test:
1. Make sure your device has ample battery charge. If you're not sure plug
it in with the wall charger for at least 10min
2. Remove your battery for at least 1 minute
3. Replace your battery while observing the LED lights
4. If the LED blinks once upon battery insertion, you might have hope yet
The only way to upgrade on a semi-brick device, is to upgrade through bootloader mode. No bootloader mode, No upgrade possible - period.
Entering Bootloader Mode on Semi-Brick Atom:
1. Remove battery for for at least 1 minute
2. Press CAMERA+RESET(stylus) simultaneously
3. Insert battery while still holding the buttons
4. Release the buttons at the same time (You should see bootloader
screen)
Note: Failure to hold the buttons at the same time during battery insertion will cause it not to work.
good luck
