Does anyone wave back to the android boot screen? - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know I and my girlfriend do

haha, new years spirit(s)?
I can't say I have but I probably will now you've mentioned it. It was a much preferred bootscreen to the t-mobile one though.

[Q] What next?

Thinking of selling this Vibrant...
I'm getting a warranty replacement in the mail for sucky GPS, and I thinking of sending it straight to eBay as a brand new phone. Might be a rash decision (honestly, if GPS worked from the getgo, I'd be pretty happy), but I'm tired of lies from Samsung, etc.
Problem is, what's better? I'm tied to T-Mobile for another 18 months.
Nexus S doesn't have TV-out, has the older BT 2.1, no expansion slot, no HD video recording (although it's upscaled anyways).
Maybe the Vibrant 4G? Comes w/ FFC, Froyo, and HSPA+...but I'd be a fool to come back to a Samsung-supported phone so quickly.
Any other suggestions? Maybe just get a Nexus S and sit on it for a while, while the market evolves? For some reason, Nexus S's go on eBay for more than retail...
Ive used ATT, Verizon, Sprint, allcell.......... they ALL suck worse than Tmo, so to me it is the service 1st not the phone. The samsung is pretty good phone, Think about it, if it was so bad why then aren't people running to the other phones and carriers, Cause the other phones out there aren't better that's why...... The s-2 of the vibrant 4g look to be pretty good so does the new moto phone...... But these phones when will they really hit the store ?April? and How do you like trying to get rid of motoblur (What a stupid name) I ve done the root on a moto phone and load a custom rom........ ugh barbaric So, I guess it is just one of those things dont like the Galaxy phone? look around........ find something better.... if you can
Yeah, I'm not sure why I'm so eager to get rid of it. It really does most of what I want, with nothing else much better on the market. Perhaps it's just I lost my patience w/ Samsung w/ the stream of lies they've given us in regards w/ GPS fixes and Froyo release date.
I've been running Froyo ROMs since October, but I still feel lied to in some sense.

[Q] Iphone 4 ≠ Galaxy S2

Wonder if anyone could help me as I have been thrown a little out of my depth. The story goes .....
Been using Iphone since 1st Gen, skipped the inbetween and then around 6 months ago went for the iphone 4. Just yesterday after watching some of the stuff on siri I was itching to go for the 4S, although it really felt this time against my better judgement. I knew I shouldnt be spending £500 just for a voice assistant, but I was impressed and was only inches from making the purchase.
However something stopped me and for some reason I just kept going back to the other phone I had heard something about, the Galaxy S2. I really didnt know ANYTHING about this phone, but decided to see what it was all about. It only took me a couple of hours to find out that on the surface this seems a far more impressive phone than the 4s.
It already has some voice recognition software, although it doesnt look like its quite up to siri standards, but the fact that you can plug in usb memory sticks, hook it up to the tv with little to no effort, the fantastic screen etc, it seemed too good to be true.
What has happened during all this research however is that I have picked up some information Im not quite sure of the answers to, which is where someone can maybe help me out.
I9100 vs I9100G ? Im going to be purchasing this in the UK probably on the three network. Is there ANY " G " stock in the UK as I would definately prefer the I9100. How can I be sure I get a 9100?
I read something about yellowing on the screen. Is this an issue with certain models or versions that I should be aware of and to try and avoid?
As with anything such as items like the PS3, PSP, is there any later revision I need to avoid during my purchase that cant be rooted or hacked as the other earlier models can?
I bought my iphone factory unlocked but with this I think I am going to take out a network contract, however are these phones easy to unlock unlike the later iphone models and again are there any later revisions where unlocking has become difficult or impossible?
Basically I am just after some friendly advice for someone who has not made the purchase yet. I just dont want to come back on here and someone say " Oh no, you didnt pick up the SGH-2013232-PPZ revision did you????? Your screwed!"
I have never, ever used an andriod phone before, so am completely new, but after clearing the apple mist, It just seems that in particular the SGS2 is definately pulling me away from continuing with my apple related destiny.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
P.S I did have an old username on here but for the life of me cant remember what it was. It dates back to when I used to come on here regarding my XDA Mini S device.
Make sure it is the GT-I9100. This phone is great. Had no problems so far. It's as good as iPhone 4s and alot.cheaper! IPhone is heavily overpriced.
Be prepared that it is not the same as an iPhone. Some thinks might be harder to configure. My gf has an iPhone and now wishes she had bought mine because Android can do so much more than ios and because my phone is cheaper while it can do the same

AFAIK, in Europe you'll be fine. The i9100G is only sold in a couple of markets, such as India.

New phones are fine. I believe that issue happened only on the first models.

As far as you get a i9100, you'll be fine. You can root every single firmware released, keep root through firmware updates, revert bootloaders, etc. This is as much of an open phone as possible, short of a Nexus or Maemo/Meego.
Thanks for the advice. Still pretty nervous about plumping for my first android phone after so long on iphones, but from everything I have seen about the Galaxy S2 it seems to pretty much match the 4s and certainly seems to do things the 4s simply cant touch such as hooking up usb memory sticks and the ease of connecting the device through HDMI to TVs.
It might take a bit of getting used to the Android way compared to the Apple way .
But you can do what you want its your phone and SJ dont tell you what is what .

Standby Translation / Cell Strength Notification

I don't have my device yet as I have Verizon, but for anyone who does have one on another carrier, I was wondering if you could answer two quick questions.
With the stock Rom, does the screen have a translation from on to off, or does it just go black? Specifically, in CM7 when the screen goes into standby and shuts off the display, you see the old tube television quickly fade to the line in the center of the screen animation.
Secondly is there a way on the stock Rom to change from "Bars" to "dBm" on the notification bar?
I think its too much to ask if it warns you of Dragons Ahead, so I won't even ask that one. : )
I know I can put CM9 on the GS3, and will probably eventually do so, but for the first few months I really want to keep it virgin. Root/Bloat Freeze for sure, but stock everything else on the phone. I would remove the apps instead of freezing them, but I have a feeling this phone will get updated soon and I don't want to deal with any nonsense due to missing default apps.
This will be my first Samsung phone, and just like I did with HTC Sense and MotoSlow, I want to give TouchWiz a test run and get familiar with their home interface. I am going to really miss dBm instead of those useless signal bars. I am pretty sure ANYONE who has EVER used a cellphone can tell you "Bars are Bull****". At least with dBm you get a slightly better idea of whats going on with your signal. The old time tube translation is something I grew up with seeing tube tv's, and loved on my cellphone in CM7. It would be creepy to see the screen just go black, that's not right. Dragons Ahead makes me smile every time and think of a time past where tv's shut off properly.
There was no screen off animation on my international version when I got it, and there was no way to get a DBM reading in the status bar, sorry

Thanks for the info. I guess it will be something I just deal with till I get to know TouchWiz. In a few months I will be using CM9 anyway.

Thank you! It just sucks what US carriers are doing to this device. Apparently now I am hearing they removed the FM radio from all US SG3's because it had a recording feature. Typical BS where Corporate America spends all its time on its knees blowing the RIAA/MPAA.
Not sure if they just removed the apk or the hardware too. Still waiting to here back from someone, but the FM radio is confirmed not to be on T-Mobile and Sprint. No word on AT&T or Verizon.
I own TuneIn Pro, and have only used the FM radio twice on my DX but it's a matter of principle. US versions of this phone have been completely dumb down and are being priced much higher than their European counterparts. I'm really getting sick of that ****. I can't wait to the ignorant people live in my country wake up and start realizing that capitalistic corporate America needs their ass handed to them for the way they have been acting over the past 10 years. It's always been bad and not exclusively here in the US, but over the past 10 years things have really gotten out of control.
Edit: Proof in point. I just read on the T-Mobile forums people were defending the company for not including it because they said it would've raised the cost of the device. Maybe those stupid ignorant T-Mobile users should realize that T-Mobile in UK is offering the phone for free, while T-Mobile in the United States has the highest prices of any carrier for this device. Pay more for less that's the American way .

[Q] Any SGS2 users on HTC One X?

Hi,
I have been planning to move away from my SGS2. And I'm gonna ask if it's a good time now?
Actually, I don't need a new phone. SGS2 handles everything I do, fast enough. Problem is, I hate this phone to it's guts. I mean, it is decent and works mostly fine but I had too many problems to even like it or keep it. It just like a bad luck charm in my pocket. Now, if I get hit by a bus, I'm gonna blame this phone. That's how I hate it.
Guess it's this particular device, with bunch of hardware problems and stuff, not the whole line. However, combined with ****tiest ever customer support, I just want to get rid of it by flushing it into a toilet.
That said, I decided that I would not even pay a cancerous tumor to Samsung for SGS3 or something new. Gotta look somewhere else.
I have been thinking about One X, looks like a decent device. I guess the biggest problem is battery life but I'm not sure how bad is it compared to SGS2 or 3? Anyone had a chance to use one after SGS2, would you suggest it?
BTW I'm neutral about iPhones, used 2 of them before, good devices. I could switch back, but it looks like the new model will take a little more time to get released and I don't want to buy a 4S weeks before the iPhone 5 release.
So, what would you do? Go for HTC or wait and see if the new iPhone turns out to be something I'd like more than others?
Thanks..

OCD over my phones looks..am I alone?

Seriously, I obsess over it. Like every 10 minutes I'm changing a wallpaper, icons or downloading a new launcher. How far the icons are from the sides or bottom of the screen bugs me etc..just a million small things and I literally spend over half my day rearranging everything lol. Am I the only one? It's even somewhat become a problem between me and my fiance. She hates how I'm always staring at my phone and when I finally put it down she always says "are you SURE your done?" Lol. It's funny but I hope I'm not alone on this
No. It's just you.
^ Agreed
I've come to that conclusion. I have bad ADD and it causes me to find one thing to focus on and once I do, I don't concentrate on anything else lol. It's a horrible curse.
I used to be that bad, when I got my first Android 6 or so years ago. My wife used to get mad at me for living on my phone, then I got her one and she does the same thing.

I really think lollipop will put an end to my obsession. It's well polished and nicely laid put. I'm am so ready to see how Touchwiz lollipop will look
Take up motorsports. Far more exhilarating than messing with wallpapers
In some ways in glad I moved on from galaxy nexus I used to Rom almost daily. Sometimes I would even load roms at work. I think if I had a nexus device again it would stay stock except for tether and launcher. I like the speed and layout of stock android. I spend more time using my phone now instead of tweaking useless things. I've even considered going back to dumb phone but really don't want to give up unlimited data as I could never get it back.

I'm just not into that sort of stuff. I'ma tech junkie lol. Never once has anyone ever showed me anything and I've never been to school for it, but I've been able to completely tear down a computer and put it back together since I was like 11. I've brought cell phones and computers completely back from the dead. I don't have much knowledge on building/development but I can sure fix something that's broken. But then again maybe if I wasn't so broke I'd have more hobbies lol. Just about any tech gadgets I have I got as payment for fixing someone else's tech gadgets.

Get a crappy Motorola phone. You'll only want to use it when you have to lol. I had the RAZR M and I hated flashing roms on it. Nothing could take away the fact that, that phone sucked lol
Yes I know believe me I had a Motorola droid x2. It was my first smart phone and never got unlocked. I thought it would be great since it was the first dual core but was I wrong most laggy phone ever.
