joy 哈哈哈哈哈哈哈!!!gps 搞好了???
What problem? I have no problem (at least I think)?
什麼??真的搞得好
但我的原本就沒什麼問題啊!
需要這樣做嗎??
Perfect !
3 time more faster in tomtom !!!!!
Before i use gps vewer to find quicly the gps and after tomtom... now i direct use TomTom !!!
Great !
PS : sorry for my english
very good, modified my S200 as attached pictures, the gps searching is very fast.
I install TOMTOM and Garmin Mobile XT in my S200. in office, both can find GPS in 20secs . the searching time need 2 mins before. It's about 1.5 meter from my table to windows.
when I run TOMTOM, I got the message asking if I am indoor every time before update. the message is gone although I am in office. the improvement of GPS signal strength is readily apparent.
Thanks joyqing (谢谢)

你好,你看我原帖里的c1.jpg, c2.jpg的比较了吗?我是和HTC P3600比较的,在没改造天线以前,我的F1经常在窗口20分钟都只有1、2颗可见卫星,而P3600表现稳定快速。

I wonder....why should it work ?
Actually my gps is perfectly fine without the modification. Dunno if there is any truth to this but a friend of mine told me that they don't allow certain functions in phones to run at full signal receiving capacity because otherwise it would melt your brain ie. cancer

Should not be a problem since the gps only receives signals and never sends any. Good thought though.

Anyone knows if TomTom is coming for Android soon? And waiting for that, does anyone have a good substitute? I cant use Google Maps when I´m driving
Co-Pilot ?...
Not sure when/if TomTom is coming, but Co-Pilot seems OK so far, and it's pretty cheap for UK and Ireland.
i doubt tomtom would come to android as they are developing for iphone and im not 100% sure but that might be exclusive at least for the time being.
I use copilot, and not troubles what so ever. only £22 bargain if you ask me and so easy to use.
I'm a big fan of copilot on my Magic - and I'm hoping I'll be OK to transfer it to the hero tomorrow when it arrives - It actually costs 25.99 because the market price (£22 somthing) doesn't have the VAT added.
I've heard of folk having glitches on hero as it supposedly clashes a bit with the sense UI. However the trick Ive read is to clear the defaults in the home app (I think through app manager) then when you press home button next it gives you the option to toggle off the Sense UI and allows progs like copilot to run ubersmoothly since the sense UI is not swalowing as much resources. You can toggle it back on after the journey I guess.
Daisy - +1 for CoPilot

TomTom develop software for their own platfrom, for Windows Mobile last and finally; iPhone. So I fail to see how they could have any exclusivity there.
Actually, I bet TomTom have been looking hard into Android as a possible platform for their own devices, especially after the new Garmin and Mio GPS phones.
Cant find copilot on android market.

Alternative choice for GPS navigation could be Nav4All.
I've installed it and seem not so bad. Actually I need to test it into a real environment like a trip on car...

Copilot is good - no camera database and limited voices but the navigation itself and working with this phone is really good. The lane guidance feature works really well and is a plus over tomtom. NO reservations after changing

Not so, with AndNav2 you create map tiles (which can be downloaded) and the program uses these. All you need a network connection is to calculate the inital route.

First post, long time lurker.
Right off the bat I would like to thank all of you out there in the community who have and are contributing their time and energies, again thank you!
I'm not worried about coming off as a noob (because I am) but I've been experiencing a laundry list of issues since I purchased the phone (T-mobile in the states) and the consensus was that most likely updates would resolve them overtime.
I finally got the latest OTA from t-mobile 2 days ago and my GPS is still messed up! It worked better with the GPS fix I had found on here, has anyone else noticed this? 0 satellite fixes! and also I've been getting this annoying clicking & stuttering sounds during any audio (streaming, playing mp3s). I had read that it was a program running in the background that was most likely culprit. Has anyone tracked this one down as of yet? Last but not least, battery life! After getting the OTA I decided to see if it would make a difference and it seems just the same if not worse! I let it power it self down and then charged it 100% and over the course of no phone calls and 3 txt msgs (No GPS/Wifi, no 3g, just edge) in less than 24 hours it had died. At first I thought the battery life was due to me constantly playing with it but I have since given up using the phone if I know I'm going to be away from my charger for more than 3 hours, this is starting to get to me!
So to boil it down, should I wait for froyo or should I try and get a replacement?
Any solutions or advice will be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Somewhat of a solution, do the GPS fix along with the J16 update. IE use the 'supl.google' server and 'msbased'
With these two "fixes", I get a lock inside the house and even not being near a window, it can place me either in my bedroom or the living room

Alright thank you very much, that did the trick. GPS issue is now once again resolved. But the main one for me right now is these clicking/stuttering sounds when I play/stream music, any ideas on that one?
I'm tired of the GPS not working accurately on my vibrant. People seem to forget what's the true reason to use a mobile phone in the first place. Who really needs a faster processor and sharper resolution when you can't use it for something as basic as navigation and finding the number and address of your local grocery store?
This is why I have switched to a Garminfone. I do not have to pay for a data plan. Who really surfs the net on a tiny screen? that's what laptops and tablets are for. Can anyone here say their Vibrant GPS works just as accurately as a Garmin device? I want to know if it's because I have an older Vibrant model. Have the new Vibrants fixed the GPS issue completely? My Garminfone is accurate in locating me within 2-10 meters and can find me in 2-3 seconds! Plus it was made to integrate directly with your car, so there is a windshield holder with power outlet.
No real software can truly fix the GPS since it's a hardware limitation. Probably why my Garminfone is heavier. It uses a real GPS, not aGPS! And it's made by Asus which is an excellent brand!
No flaming intended, but HOLY CRAP a Garminfone?
Ouch dude.
You picked a GARMINFONE over an SGS? The ONLY thing that phone does better is GPS.
That being said, the GPS on my Vibrant works great. I have no idea why some Vibrants can't see a bird to save their lives, and some work. Supposedly the newer hardware makes it more likely that it will work.
Good luck with your new GPS that can make phone calls.
LOL at picking a Garminfone over the Vibrant.

Weird... I thought the true reason to use a mobile phone.... was to call people??
I thought about the Garminfone briefly before I settled with a Vibrant.
Software updates for the Garminfone are really non-existent and any modding/hacking Roms is almost extinct as well. The device is on life support at best.
That being said I've seen Vibrants with superb 5 second GPS locks by just spending 10 patient minutes doing the GPS hardware fix listed in the sticky.

True. There is a hardware issue with the GPS as stated in the sticky in the General Section. But once that issue is corrected the GPS is just as good as any standalone device I've every used. There are about 90 other people who will back me on that too. Oh and my phones GPS is set to Standalone, no aGPS here...
those that are replying, keep in mind....
does you GPS work properly without a Data plan???
my point is, if you're paying an extra $30 a month which is $330 a year for data when there is wifi in just about every mall, mc donalds, star bucks...why even bother?
and on top of that, why pay for data if you already have wifi at home and in the workplace??
Seriously, no one truly browses a full web page on a phone. You do that on a laptop or tablet. The Garminfone has android 2.1. So what is if it doesn't have 2.3? The issue is always going to be T-mobile will be a few builds behind the latest one. Are you really going to save the world with 2.3???
It's all about functionality and value!!!!
I can be in the middle of nowhere and get GPS directions, address and telephone numbers without a data plan! No paying $330 yearly!
So back to my question, does your GPS on your Vibrant work accurately without a data plan or wifi?
omg is this thread for real. me and my wife had a garmin when they first came out cause of the buy one get one deal. we couldnt give those crappy phones back fast enough. really garmin phone why dont you just get a tom tom duct tape it to your vibrant if you want gps so bad.
I looked at the Garminfone for about 10 minutes. I am not going to bash your choice because everyone has different needs for their devices. I will however say that my decision to NOT go with that phone was I read a ton of bad reviews on overall hardware and software issues. Plus I really hardly use GPS unless I am bored.
If you truly need GPS and just use a phone to call and text then that is what suits you best.
Good luck with your purchase, come back in a few weeks and prove us wrong I guess
After reading through this post, I don't why the OP even created this post in the first place when he knows for a fact that our phone requires a data plan for GPS to work. As for me, I am out most of the time and it's just much more convenient for me to use the data plan to go online and email without having to look for a place with wifi. On top of that, my replacement phone sees 11 to 12 birds and locks on to 6 to 8 birds in about 10 to 20 seconds. Maybe the OP regrade switching over and is trying to justify himself for the switch.
he might as well get a cup and string along with a star chart to map with for location for a phone.

The irony is freaking delicious.
i see a lot of people here are new to TECHNOLOGY. I've been around computers since the first desktop computer came out. Many on here started using computers only when facebook became popular. The point is, the true value in technology does not lie in paying for a device at it's birth.
I repeat, $330 a year for what???
It's $330 for service...not a device that can be resold and make half your money back in a year. What do you really need so badly to download from the internet that requires you to get a data plan instead of using wifi?
The initial bad reviews for the Garminfone was because it only supported 1.6 at the time. 2.1 isn't that bad. And get this, Garminfone is made by Asus which is the best quality PC brand!
Of course the vibrant is better...well it ought to be if you're paying $330 more a year!!! It all comes down to price! You expect more if you pay more!
If you bought your Vibrant through Tmobile, you could have easily swapped it out for a newer model without the hardware problem at no cost to you. My GPS is working fine, and yes in some cases it fares better than standalone units.
People use their phones for browsing all the time, that's kind of the major point of a smartphone...
As for the data plan, I use Audiogalaxy to stream my entire music collection (upwards of 200 gigs of music) from my computer at home, to my car. How would you do that without a data plan again?

What about everyone who doesnt have wifi at work. Those who don't visit malls or fast food restaurants. What about the fact then even those who do have wifi at work also have many restrictions to go along with it. Unlimited access to the cloud and everything that entails, at speeds that are often faster than the average wifi connection. This also works when in a car, on a bus, at the beach, in the mall, in an airport, while doing handstands, practicing your backflips on a trampoline, hell even when I'm walking to the office, dropping my drawers, and dropping a deuce all over my ****ty Asus netbook

Exactly, and with Maps 5.0 you have offline route caching, so you can still navigate when you lose data service.
people really need internet on a tiny little device 24/7 for $330?
Sure everything is case by case, but $330 in this economy when MOST people already have wifi. This is how ridiculous cellphone plans are! It use to be a device for talking and now people describe it like a NECESSITY!
This is exactly why Americans are always broke! They don't know the meaning of value. It's one thing that you're Donald Trump, but MAJORITY of people don't need internet service with them 24/7.
If you're using your mobile device for tethering, then that's a good thing...but when you already have wifi at home like most people, this is completely a waste!
Does anyone have proof that the Vibrant GPS works great by itself without a data plan. I'm looking for proof online. Maybe a video or article.

The vibrants GPS can operate in 3 different modes. One of which is STANDALONE. meaning the phone gets its data directly from the sats. Meaning no network connection is needed.

These phones don't seriously have an internal GPS antenna; do they? If I turn my data signal off I get no GPS.
How does the GPS work exactly in these phones? I mean with data on I guess it somehow uses tower triangulation to find the phone...but how does it work with the data network dis-activated? I'm confused.
The phone has full gps chip and aerials, with the data connection off agps won't work so well, and google maps won't work, but anything that stores there maps locally will work.
GPS fix will take longer without agps

So without data it will still get a lock? You're saying that the phone DOES have a GPS antenna inside?
I've tried it before and it just seems like it searches for satellites forever and never gets a lock.

So why does it take so long to get a lock compared to lets say a regular GPS unit that you put in your car? Is it because the antenna is smaller?

It should take the same amount of time in most cases. But sometimes the circumstances are different. A typical fix time i 5-30seconds for my SGS2, but sometimes it is slower.
And if your chip for some reason needs a complete configuration from the satellites it could take up to 10-15 minutes to get a fix (exceptional situation).

igo and tomtom for android? please do share a link. i've got copilot live premium which works quite well, but aside from that and navigon, i haven't seen any other navigation software for android (excluding of course google navigation).

I see.
I tried it today with data off and it couldn't get a lock I had it trying for 5+ minutes...I was outside with no blockages...

With data off and corrupt calendar data in the GPS chip it takes even more than 5 minutes.
Wait 15 minutes instead. This time is required due to the extremely low bit rate from gps satellites (50 bits/s).
Another idea is to download gps test from market and clear and update agps-data, this requires data connection on.
Both these solutions are known to work for others, hopefully one of them works for you.

@cosmic blue:
warez link reported!
also, to clarify a few things here:
there is no tomtom for android.
basically, there is igo, navigon and ndrive.
these are offline navigation apps that do not require a data connection for navigation, since their maps, pois, voices... are stored on the phone itself, BUT navigon for instance, requires a short server connection to verify your version is legit. i don't know about the other two though.

You forgot Sygic Aura and Copilot, both are good and popular navigation applications.

Thanks I'll have to try that.
Basically what I want to know is that if I'm out the cell signal area AKA no cell signal and no data (obviously), the phone will still be able to get a lock? If so, that's crazy! I didn't know...I thought it either got your position from the net or triangulated your position via cell towers...not actually receiving data from a GPS satellite.
I used sygic when in spain it was really good no need to data
Alright, i am not a stranger in this subforum anyway so i will kick this in right away.
My Eternity served me very well in GPS Navigation Before (last month, it helped me take the journey to a brand new City to take a TOEFL test and returned home safely)
But now, i just realized it yesterday, when it failed to track down where i was on the road.
I mean, the 3G Signal is fine, i can surf web, i can search location on Bing Maps, but it fails to track down where i am. Sometime it will display something like "Sorry , Bing Maps can't ..." or it will show me somewhere not even close to my house ( i suppose it is where the tower of AT&T located.)
Somehow the GPS really fail on 3g, if i hook it up with a USB cable, or WIfi, it will show me kinda exactly where i am ( with a big circle covered up amount of area show the sign that the phone is not really sure where i am really located in that area)
I am on the latest update from HTC and Microsoft, anybody facing the same problem? I would like someword from someone use AT&T over here.
Thanks.

Wow dude. You are totally having too many issues. Gotta get a new device.
I have had literally zero issues with my Titan. And heck, the GPS lock on all my Windows Phones have been just fast and spot on, especially the Titan. This is whether I'm on 3G or 4G.
Bad luck?
Could be a temporary issue. I know every so often, GPS satellites will go crazy and just not work properly for a day or two and then be just fine.

HTC replied me with a message about letting the "Location" services on (which i always let it on) , so it is no help.
Anyway, i recognized yesterday that whenever i go outside , i will stuck on 3 bars for Signal (which i always had full bars when i went outside before)
Might it be the low-signal problem again?
I don't know if i might end up having the AT&T version which is slow on getting the update
And hey bro... how could you get the Lumia 800 that fast??? LOL

Well the GPS radio does not require you to have a signal with your wireless carrier. GPS is separate from data/voice, but of course it does need the data connection to download maps and directions.
I don't know if the update will fix your issue as the release notes don't say they fix any GPS issues. I haven't heard many people having GPS issues to begin with, so I don't think its a massive issue. Maybe its interference from something around your house? What happens if you go elsewhere?
I got the Lumia because Microsoft/Nokia gave one to me.

That's sweet dude... i am currently still thinking about buying Nokia again since i have had bad experience with Nokia before.

Weird. Maybe its the back plate? I read that the backplate has some contacts in it that help to increase overall phone reception, and that may include GPS reception. If you backplate isn't on the phone properly, then that may be causing interference, in which case, you may need to get a replacement backplate.

I should wait tomorrow and try it once more time, the HTC Supporter is gonna call me also. We'll see how it turns out.
Maybe you are right, sometime GPS got luggish for a little bit and be back normal after a few days.

Maybe try to reboot your phone once a day or two, & all will be fine.
I had the same issue once with GPS, & after reboot, all went fine.
God luck
No bro... this thing is so hard to predict.
With 3G , i can get the position after quite awhile... with a big circle around... they normally point at somewhere else... really hard to get correct position.
With Wifi, it catch my position right away, but always with a big circle around... if i disconnect wifi and disconnect 3G too, it will be able to track me down for quite awhile...
Turn off everything before i track my position, i got nothing from the phone.
Hand down, this is kinda clear that i have Hardware failure... but strange... one month ago, it was still fine!
me too!
I am now having the same GPS problem on my euro titan as well grr! Even after flashing several roms it still does not work, and what is even worse is that it sometimes does work!
