Why has my notification tones tripled in the tone selection - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am running the latest 2.1 version 3 but even before then i noticed my list of different notification sounds and ring tones in the menu selection has tripled (each name is listed 3 times) they all make the correct sounds though but it does make the list 3 times longer is there a fix for this ?
not a major issue but i am just curious ?
THANKS FOR ANY INPUT

same thing here. I've just learned to ignore it. I doubt they're taking up a lot of space and I only have to set up my notifications once then I never have to look at it again.

[APP][Updated 27-05-2009] Simple Redial V1.1.1

I do not know why but redial applications are rare. I do not like any of them so I wrote one myself.
Requirements and compatibility.
.NET Compact Framework 2 is required. For any other requirement and compatibility you tell me. I am not a professional mobile developer and I can only test on my phone, a HTC Diamond2 (Topaz) with WM6.1
Install
Run SimpleRedial.cab. Can be installed in main memory or storage card.
Uninstall
Use Remove Programs in Settings
Usage
Simple Redial calls the most recent number in the dial history. No history, no call. Tap and hold the most recent number label at the top of the screen to select dial history filter (All,Missed,Incoming,Outgoing).
Call attempt number and time between call attempts can be selected by tapping and holding the labels.
On tapping Redial the program starts the call attempts and goes on until one of these happens.
1 - A call attempt is answered. The program produces a 'connected' notification (sound plus short vibration) and exit. Speakerphone can be optionally activated (check Keep on Speakerphone).
2 - You tap Abort. After current attempt ending the program produces a 'not connected' notification (sound plus vibration).
3 - You tap Exit. After current attempt ending the program exit (no notification).
4 - All the attempts fail. The program produces a 'not connected' notification (sound plus vibration).
5 - An inbound call arrives between call attempts. The program exit (no notification).
The 'not connected' notification is played when the phone call is not active and is so a 'normal' notification. Therefore, you can control it with volume and vibrate/silent settings.
The 'connected' notification is played when the phone call is active and this is somewhat tricky. You can not control it with volume and vibrate/silent settings but you can select whether it is played on speakerphone (check Sound on Speakerphone) or on the phone speaker (uncheck Sound on Speakerphone).
Tweaking
The sounds used by the program are Connected.wma and NotConnected.wma in the installation directory. You can change them if you like by replacing these files. If your Connected.wma is longer and gets truncated you should change the registry HKCU\Software\SimpleRedial\ConnectedSoundSecs. This is the time in seconds the program allows for Connected.wma playing before exiting.
USUAL LEGAL DISCLAIMER
Use Simple Redial at your own risk! NO WARRANTY! Although running this application does not seem to produce any damage on my phone, I take no responsibility for any kind of damage or major or minor inconvenience caused to devices or data or person or whatever else due to this application and its usage.
PROBLEM: on some phones popup menus do not popup, can't say why as it should be managed by Framework and I could not reproduce the problem. At any rate at post #9 you can download the previous version that used drop down lists.
Nice work. I'll try it. I knew only one redial app before you created this. Thanks. I'll start to annoy the ones that owe me some money with this
Idea - this kind of app should be service to save process slots (which are sow few as we know - 32)

The ideal option would be to have it inside the dialer application as a 'fire (a call) and forget (till answer)' option, otherwise compromise are in order.
For example, I would have liked to start the call attemps in a hidden way (maybe using Tapi) and then handover it to the normal phone window on call answer. Unfortunately, this is not possible (or, at least, I could not find a way) so to keep the phone window hidden I had to set my application as topmost. It works, provided you do not start switching applications with a task manager, but it is not very elegant.
Unfortunately, it seems redial is not an interesting capability (maybe it's me that know strange people with an almost alway busy phone) and MS or HTC leave the dialer as it is.
I cannot seem to figure out how I can change the number of attempts and how long in between each attempt.

Tap and hold the labels until a popup menu appears.
I do that and see that something is happening, butI get now menu. I just reboot the device and same result. I get the circle of dots when I press and hold, but no menu.
Let me try that again. I do that and see that something is happening, but I get NO menue. I rebooted the device and got the same result. Circle of dots when I press and old, but no menu.

That's strange. Tap and hold popup is a .NET Framework provided feature and it works flawlessly on my phone.
Do you have .NET Compact Framework 2 installed? Does tap and hold works in other programs on your device? Are you tapping exactly over 'xx attempts' label and 'xx secs between attempts' label?
At any rate here is old version 1.1 that used drop down lists. I moved to menus because it is supposed to be more finger friendly.
I will try the new file. I have running Compact Framework 3.5. Yes press and hold works for other programs.
Do I get this right? The app redials not if the line is busy - you have to start the app to set the redialprocess in motion?

Yes, the application does not start by itself. The usage as I thougt it is...
1 - I call let's say Jack and I find that the line is busy. Now the Jack's number is on top of call history.
2 - I run SimpleRedial, it gets the Jack's number from the call history and when I tap Redial it starts calling again and again.
3 - When Jack answer SimpleRedial notifies me and exits.

Do you plan to make it an auto redial? If so can you add the option of whether I want the number redialed, if so how many times? It would be very useful then. I have been waiting for years for such an app. Pocketmax.net has one, but the developer is not working on it. Yours could be the perfect app. All the best looking forward to further development.

Sorry, but no. I have only Compact Framework development tools (as a byproduct of my "real" .NET programming activities) and Compact Framework applications are very easy to code but real resource hogs. Therefore, making SimpleRedial resident would be quite a bad idea, it would not even be really resident because the Framework can decide to kill background applications to recover resources. Moreover, it would became not really "Simple"

There is already an option for the redial attemps number. Just tap and hold the "xx attemps" label to get the popup menu (on some phone it does not work, can't say why, but on post #9 there is the old version that uses drop down lists).
Thanks for the reply.

How can i mod my dream im new to this
very great APP thx!
idea: I've got confused with difference between "speaker phone" and "phonespeaker"
Kaiser running WM6.1 CF3.5.
I've installed to the storage card.
The selection popups work fine.
With "sound on speakerphone" enabled, but "keep on speakerphone" disabled I get this error when the call connects:
Code:
simpleredial.exe
ObjectDisposedException

at Microsoft.AGL.Forms.EVL.EnterMainLoop()
at System.Windows.Forms.Application.Run()
at Redial.Program.Main()
The call stays connected, but simple redial crashes. Also, the writeup indicates that the notification should be via sound (works sorta) and vibrate (does not work). The notification sound does not come over the speakerphone.
When I enable "sounds over speakerphone" and enable "keep on speakerphone", the sound does not come over the speakerphone, but once the call connects the speakerphone comes on (after a brief delay)
When a busy signal is encountered it seems like the app waits for the line to be disconnected by the service provided (busy signal runs for over 1 minute) is there a ways to decrease this or to disconnect when a busy signal is detected by tone? This would increase the effectiveness of the redialer as well as decrease the burden on the device (wasted resources waiting for the telcom to disconnect the call)
The app has great potential, it would be nice to see the last couple of bugs ironed out.
It would be highly appreciated if it can be set to 1 sec between atempt!! Thank you!

ICS Official changes

Ok folks, what Im going to do here is go through some of the major things I have noticed since installing the official ICS but before I do that, let me give my two sentence review.
Its nice. If you are wondering what the Note SHOULD have performed like on launch, this is it. MUCH improved scrolling, better performance and slightly more aggressive app handling.
Ok, I lied, three sentences.
Changes:
NOTE that I will NOT be covering changes to the launcher portion of ICS.
1. Overall performance is better. Using Go Launcher, with the app drawer set to 6x6, it scrolls MUCH more smoothly. The market scrolls much smoother, settings, the same. It isnt 'butter' but it is much more acceptable now, not stuttering to the point of overshooting apps.
2. Notifications menu now has two new toggles - Flight Mode and Power Savings. There is now also a fast Settings button that will take you straight into the Android Settings app.
3. The power menu (long pressing your screen on/power button) has had accessibility moved to the top of the menu (if you had this enabled) and now has a 'Reboot phone' option (YAY!!)
4. ALL system apps that CAN be linked to the market are now correctly linked. This means your list of installed apps will be a bit longer (when looking in the play store list) and also means that these apps will be able to be updated without manually searching for each one by one.
5. There are obvious signs of the original UI ICS all over the place, notably the spinning circle but you'll see it everywhere.
6. Improved battery life, for the amount I have used the phone, its at a much higher percentage than it normally would have been.
One quick point to interject, apps can now be disabled

I know this worked on some of the ICS roms, so I just looked and verified that even though you cannot uninstall some of the bloat (without root), you can disable it . For example, I can disable Swype and install Swype Beta now. I hate AT&T Navigator, so I disabled it. If it cannot be uninstalled, disable it.

Here are a few more that I just disabled, thanks for this tip
AT&T Navigator
Email (I use the gmail app)
Google+
Now. the rest of this is the stuff under settings. Im going to cover what I recognize to be new.
Under Settings:
First off, you'll notice that everything is now categorized into different groups now, making finding things in Settings a bit easier.
Wireless and Network
Tapping on Wifi or Bluetooth now takes you to the screens to configure the advanced settings for these features. Tapping 'On/Off' on the right side enables or disables the radios.
Data Usage
Here is where you can set up your billing cycle dates and put hard caps on your PHONE to keep your data usage under what your carrier allows. Fairly straight forward but make sure you set your billing date up correctly or this will be of NO use.
More
Here you will find NFC (YAY), Android Beam (send data between two devices using NFC), and Wifi Direct (connect two devices with a wifi antenna without the need for a router/hub).
Device
Call
Nothing new here, just a few things moved around a bit.
Sound
Again, nothing new, just shuffled a bit to make things easier to get to. Note that the menu button now no longer brings up any advanced settings here, they are all accessible by navigating the screen options.
Display
A few things moved around a bit BUT a new feature, Show battery percentage in notifications bar. NICE Also, Gyroscope Calibration is now an option.
Power Saving
Unchanged
Storage
Prettier but unchanged, a little bit more information but not much.
Battery
Unchanged
Applications
Unchanged, tho it should be noted that you can hit your menu button while in this screen to sort the list by Size
Personal
Accounts and Sync
Unchanged
Location Services
Unchanged
Security
Big one here but this is where you will find face unlock and even a voice recognition feature that can I believe be used in conjunction with another method to unlock your phone. I havent had much time to look at it yet.
Language and Input
Largely unchanged but its a bit more intuitive to change your keyboard now. And, for an interesting 'feature' that Samsung forgot to disable, Pointer speed, which has NO effect on our phone, this option is only for phones with a trackpad (Samsung forgot to disable this - made me smile).
Back up and reset
Nice, this option used to be buried under privacy and is now brought out into the main settings list. Much easier to find, it
System
Dock
Unchanged
Pen Settings
New option, Hovering pen icon (shows a pen icon over the screen where the pen is hovering)
One Handed Operation
3 completely new settings, to configure the calculator, dialer, and unlock pattern to be configured for use with one hand (clumps everything on one side of the screen so that you can say dial numbers with just your thumb rather than the usual having to hold the phone with one hand and dial with your other).
Date and Time
Unchanged
Accessibility
Two new options, Speak passwords. Havent had time to check to see if this works for unlocking the phone as well, but if it does, that would be silly. Tap and Hold delay can now be configured as well as allowing or disallowing the installation of web scripts.
Motion
New option, Double Tap to allow voice dictation easily. Sweet
Developer Options
Several new things you can make visible for the nerdy types but Im not going to cover them here since they are really only for developers .
About Phone
Unchanged
Ok, that should give you an idea of what to look for, if someone else wants to cover the touchwiz stuff (adding or removing widgets/icons/homescreens) I can add it.
Also, if there is anything I missed or got wrong...
Ok, one more new thing, the phone now charges correctly off your USB port, ie. charges faster.
Awesome write up! Do you have any idea how -- or if -- we can add app shortcuts to the lockscreen like the SGSIII?
PS: I have Widgetlocker but would prefer to use the system for this if possible.
Under Settings Developer Options you have the ability to adjust the Window Animation scale and also Transition Animation Scale.
When I set these to 0 then launchers like Go launcher behave much quicker.

My understanding is, one of the major improvements made to ICS is the ability to offload some of the processing to the processor / gpu depending on current load - ie. cpu is extremely busy at the moment so offload some processing to the gpu (or vice versa). Enabling this option I believe forces the gpu to handle everything regardless of the state of the cpu.
Reports have claimed enabling this option has mixed results. If the app supports gpu acceleration, you will see better performance. If it doesnt, the app will actually have worse performance and may actually crash the app in some rare cases. All ICS updated apps support this and chances are, if the software you have on your Note has been updated to support ICS, you have no issues.
So, the advice from the streets is to either keep is disabled and pretend you didnt see it or enable it and keep in the back of your mind that you might need to disable it occasionally for certain apps. The performance improvement is supposedly pretty minimal.

Yea, there are a couple of negatives about this however. Any native Android apps will loose some of the fancy 'little' touches (for example fading when going from one screen to another in settings). Some have reported however a small improvement in battery life doing this so its up to you. Persoinally, performance wise, I didnt notice anything differently with these set to 0. But then again, I have only one homescreen.
One other note, I just got off a 2.5 hour phone call from a full charge. Ended the call with 70% battery left. This is a HUGE improvement over GB where I likely would have been around 50% left.
not really usefull but in about phone, if you tap the android version a bunch of times you get a 8bit android in a icecream sammich.

I am sorry to tell you that you are incorrect. Here is information about that toggle and other android graphics issues straight from the woman who designed the OS.
http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...I-C08yEO63mvHG6BQ&sig2=bamQd77PjEBd050c6s96EQ
TLDR:
Before ICS, android used the GPU to accelerate the animations of the windows, but it left the choice of how to render graphics inside the windows to the app developer. What the toggle does, is to force GPU rendering inside the windows, even if the app did not ask for it. There are two downsides to this forced rendering. The forced rendering can break compatibility. It can also increase memory usage unnecessarily.

bwwaahhhaaaa.... sorry but when I opened this thread it landed on you post.... and I read it out of context
Just received an email from Samsung saying to upgrade to ICS (did it via kies when 1st available). The email stated there is a newly introduced "Desktop View". This is for the default web browser.....
If you want to switch to "Desktop" browser mode, bring up the settings and select "Desktop view". So now its easier to switch between mobile and desktop browser modes.
Before you had to do "about:useragent"

Different text tones for contacts?

Are we able to do this in Sense? I know you can on iOS, but I have yet to find a setting for it in Sense.
Sent from my HTC DNA
im also looking for something like this, and also have the ability to repeat notifications at set times. I work in a pretty loud and fast environment and its pretty hard for me to even feel my phone vibrate much less hear it, which is why I need it to keep repeating. Something like lightflow would be nice and the actual light doesn't really matter to me, just the repeating and ability to set individual tones. I tried lightflow, but I couldn't get it to work.
The only thing I can find in sense is different ringtones per contact. As far as multiple notification reminders, I think GoSms Pro (free) supports that.
Sent from my HTC DNA using TapaTalk
Yes. I'm using go sms right now, but hand cent also supports text reminders. I just need to find a way to get custom text tones. I like to use it that way so I know who to reply to first in order of importance.

I gave lightflow a try, but for some reason I couldn't get my phone to wake up so I promptly uninstalled it once I got it to boot. I was messing around with different settings in there so maybe ill leave them on default and ill give it a try. I think I checked the special htc option in the settings, and that might have done something.
In Handcent if you go to an existing conversation there is an icon in the top right of a person with a gear. In this menu you can set custom notification ringtones for that person.
I use chompSMS and it allows me to assign custom ringtones for each contact. I had to download it through their site.

[Q] wake display on notification possible on HTC One?

2 weeks in with the HTC One and love it still... I have always rooted and gone with custom rom (thanks to XDA-Dev!) within hours of getting a new device from AT&T (sticking with them cause I have an old grandfathered-in unlimited data plan) but didnt with the HTC One because I just seemed perfect for how I use my phone.
Now that I'm back in the saddle at work and deep in writing some heavy code I notice one thing that may be the single reason I need to root / mod (unless Im missing something): When I get an SMS I get the audible notification sound I have selected and the small LED light indicator, but unlike my last android device, the screen doesnt wake and show me the lock screen where I have it setup to show the first few lines of new emails and SMS messages... so I have to stop typing each time and manually press the power button each time...
is there a way to enable this or is LED / sound notification basically all the stock AT&T HTC One is capable of?
Anyone else dealt with the same issue and found a workaround?
Don't quote me but I used handcent to get around this same issue. Handcent works really well but I wish they would have allowed this on the original messaging app. There are quite a few dumb decisions that were made on the One

Yes there are many options for screen-on SMS notification. ROMs such as Viper One (via the built in Venom Tweaks) and TrickDroid (via an Aroma option during installation) support screen-on SMS notification with the default messaging app. Several 3rd party SMS apps have this feature as mentioned previously.
Also look into Glowfly in the Play Store. Nice mms wake solution.

General questions

Hello fellow Xiaomi users,
I got my Redmi 5 Plus a few days ago, updated it only via the system update (no custom twerks yet).
Currently I have the stock Android 7.1.2 N2G47H and the stock MIUI 9.6.2.0 NEGMIFD.
I have a couple of questions about the phone and I would really appreciate your help:
1) Will this phone get an official Oreo update? I've read that there should be one, but couldn't find any official date mentioned.
2) Stock launcher - I noticed that I couldn't remove app icons from the stock launcher. Is there a way to do that, and customize it all together?
3) Nova launcher - Since I couldn't remove unneeded app icons from the stock launcher, I installed Nova. An issue I find with it though, is that I no longer get skype notification sound - only vibration. Also sometimes messenger fails to make a sound as well, but that happens fairly rare. Any idea on a fix for this? Or maybe recommend a better launcher, that works with the phone?
4)Viber - I am using dual SIMs. One personal, and one for work. I activated only my work viber, but as soon as I started using it, it transferred all my contacts in it. So now my personal and work contacts got mixed. Wouldn't be an issue, If I didn't use viber on my work PC, and I would rather my personal chats to not be there. Any suggestion on how to separate my contacts? Anyone else had this issue?
5) Alarm sound - I am not sure if this happened after I switched to Nova, but my alarm sound is really low. The phones speakers are quite good, but when it comes to the alarm its quite low. I can barely hear it and wake up
6) Freezing - Sometimes when I type in let's say messenger, the phone freezes for some reason, until I type the next letter. For example if I try to type the word "submarine", I can type "subma" but it will freeze on "subm", and when I type the next letter (r) it will spit out both of the last written letters "submar" and then continue to work normally. What can cause those freezes?
I would really love to hear your opinion on these points.
Thanks in advance guys
1) For sure, in the main miui site is indicated and if is there is a closed beta available then we can expect an official version.
2) Remove the icons from stock launcher will mean uninstall them, you can only move them to the next display and maybe group them.
3) Check if all permissions are granted for this launcher including device control and accesibility, also enable in Nova persistent notifications. I use stock launcher, I put my preferred apps in main desktop, the others just moved them to the right and using the app "My Drawer" from developer Ofir Miron, it´s the only that I found that keeps the same icon from any theme that I pick, the others look very ugly.
I´m rarely use the other points so I don´t know

Thank you for the reply, I guess I will wait for the update for now, and experiment some more with Nova.
One more thing that came to mind - any way to use the proximity sensor to stop the phone for ringing or to answer calls? I had this options on other android phones - when the phone rings, and you bring your phone close to something (like your year) it picks up. Or when you flip it face down it stops the ringing. Any of these options available?? Can't find them so far.

Thank you, found it. Now let's hope that someone else can shed some light on the other topics as well. ^^
