HTC Hero home screen not showing after upgrade - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Recently I updated my 'non-rooted' HTC Hero (Orange) to 2.73.61.66 from my previous version (2.73.61.5). I got this ROM from the Orange site.
The problem I am facing is that once I restart it and slide down the lock screen, it just shows me the HTC logo. It's very frustrating, however, I can receive phone calls and SMS (for SMS, I can just see the preview in the lock screen). After fiddling around with it a bit, once I move the slider to get in the home screen (which is just the HTC logo), I press HOME button for a while and it brings up my Recent Applications (which is empty). After this if I press the call button, it even gives me access to the dialer screen and I can make calls. But alas, so far I have found no way to get to the main GUI, it keeps on showing only the HTC logo!
So far I re-installed the new and previous firmware a couple of times each, but the problem remains. I have also tried a hard reset and a memory clear and that has also not helped.
Just want to point out here that when I first got the Hero I updated to the .5 version in exactly the same manner and it worked just fine (now when I run the ROM Update Utility and take it back to that same version, I face the same issue).
I will highly appreciate any help in this regard as you can imagine how frustrating this is - I love my Hero!

Thanks for trying to help kendong2, as I'm pretty desperate here. I would further appreciate it if you could just elaborate on those terms a little more.
I'm not sure what you mean by 'full wipe' and 'logcat'.
Also, my phone is not rooted. I looked up logcat and it seems I need to run ADB for it. I'm a total newbie on this but from what I understood; my phone needs to be rooted to run ADB (would be glad to be corrected here).

consider your users manual and find out how to "restore factory settings". i believe there is a button combination you can press to do this. all your settings will be lost afterwards.
logcat needs adb, although no root AFAIK. but i am not sure if you can use it on a stock rom at all.

Thanks again. Did the Restore Factory Settings, flashed it and booted without the SD card but still facing the same problem. I'm checking if there is a way to get that logcat somehow.

you flashed it via ruu? or what?

That's right, I used the RUU and it completed successfully (as it has been doing all the times I have flashed it lately), but with the same results. Is there any other way to flash it?
I've also had no luck to get ADB/logcat running either.

you can flash roms through a custom recovery image. but if you don't have any luck by flashing an ruu update the custom recovery probably won't help either. thought about returning the hero for a refund? sounds like a defective device to me...

Returning it would be a major hassle as I live in Kuwait and got it sent to me from the UK through some 3rd party supplier.
I'm also not so sure about the device being defective because when I first did the upgrade to the .5 version (back in Sept 2009, when I got the phone), it worked like a charm. So I'm not sure what went wrong between then and now, when I made the latest .66 update a few days ago.
It's weird, I can make calls, send/receive SMS, but I just can't get to the main home-screen GUI. Keep seeing that HTC logo!
Thanks for trying though.

i'd say try some other roms, but for that you need to install the custom recovery image, and for that you need to create a goldcard and downgrade, so it's kind of a hassle as well... good luck with what ever you go for.

ICS OTA had problems, Global update has more

The phone was working great, other than the noise cancelling mic cancelling out my voice, but I thought since the update was available, I might as well do it. Once I got on ICS I was having quite a few issues: overall slower, delay in the screen turning on, hotter battery, longer time to charge, wallpaper would flash on before the HTC screen when booting up, there were more just can't remember right now.
I hear about the Global update and think it may fix some of the problems I was having, but they got worse. Now I still have everything I did before (except maybe the hot battery) Also have 3 new issues now: the screen doesn't come back on when I take it away from my ear during a call, browser goes white when going to a new page and I have to reload the page, can't post on any forums in the browser.
Here's the process I went through getting the Global (copied from another forum that I was updating as I was going)
I downloaded it from android police, got to step 6 of the directions, looked away from the phone to see what step 7 was. The phone vibrated and is now on the screen with the green down arrow and 2 in a circle around it. Says "Updating Software from Verizon Wireless" with a green progress bar. Hope I did it right.
That went through rebooted to HBOOT, pressed vol. up twice. It checked everything. Rebooted. Pressed. Vol. up to install. Upadated everything. Pressed power to reboot.
Took a little while on the white HTC screen, now says "Andoid is upgrading..." "Optimizing application [some number] of 77." I think I did it right.
Just checked and everything is right. Woo-Hoo! Not that I'll ever use global, I was hoping it may have fixed some of the bugs I was having, but no
Also of note, I didn't pull the battery. My case is hard to get off, so I just turned off fast boot and that worked.

What do I do at this point? My phone is getting less usable by the day as I keep noticing all these bugs.
Wipe your phone clean and use the RUU that android police posted today to install the latest patched OTA clean. That's what I'd try anyway.
I'll try that in the morning, thanks. Hopefully all goes smoothly. Still learning how to do things (afraid of rooting, but that's another thread)

There are plenty of knowledgeable members here to walk you through it if you just shoot someone a pm. It's all very simple.
As for your problem, try the ruu hopefully that works I'm not sure about the mic canceling out your voice that might be a hardware problem let's hope not

Stupid person time (I don't believe there are stupid questions)
By "wipe phone clean" then flash the RUU. I get the flashing part, but what do you mean by wipe clean. Is there another step in there or does it automatically happen when flashing? I've only been in recovery once, so I didn't really study the options. On my D2, there was a wipe option.

The RUU should wipe it but you can go into recovery and wipe /data and /system to remove the current rom.
Making sure I got all this right, but won't be trying until tomorrow afternoon. Only at 40% charge and going out of town in the morning and need the phone.
1. Rename the Android Police download to PH98IMG.zip and copy to sd card (don't have to extract anything out like I did on the .1)
2. Boot into recovery (vol. down and power)
3. Let it start flashing (If it starts automatically, how do I get to the wipe /data and /cache options?) I know it should be wiped auto. but I want to do it myself to make sure.
4. Pray to Andy that there's no bugs this time.
You need to boot into bootloader, not recovery, that will happen when you do the battery pull then start it volume down + power. I'm pretty sure the RUU will wipe everything so you should be good.
Problem with newest ICS
The new ICS has a problem with the browser. Links are squirrelly when touched; sometimes
no reaction, sometimes checks every box on the page. Just does not feel right when moving
around on web pages.
Seems ok to me, I'd recommend Chrome over stock unless you need Flash support anyway.
Sorry, I got the terms confused on the terms. I knew it was vol. down and power though
I finally got around to flashing the RUU, all is well so far, will report back if anything changes.
I'm s-off but my bootloader is unlocked. Do I need to relock the bootloader before flashing the RUU.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
There is a tradition on rezounds to always install an RUU two times in a row, then let it boot up normally before installing custom things like hboots, recoveries, or ROMs.
I used to read posts of people saying that it must be done twice to assure everything gets installed right, and to avoid problems.
So, I recommend doing the ruu twice in a row, especially if your phone was not stock beforehand.
Howard
p.s. my favorite browser is opera mobile.
If s-off and unlocked, there is no need to relock to install an RUU.
Turns out I got a little too anxious. I thought stuff was working, but that was just because I was thankful that I installed the RUU right, still new to this. Still having all the same problems though
When you say install twice in a row, should I just try installing it once again tomorrow or twice since I downloaded an app or two?
Also, you say twice, then boot up normally, when I installed this it just booted up after the install was finished. Is there a way to install it again before it boots for the first time?
method
Make sure the Android Police 3.14.605.12 renamed PH98IMG.zip on your sdCard.
Boot up with Volume down, Power to get into hboot. It will ask your permission with a
Volume up and then run the update. I think they mean after 1st boot, answer English,
and get out of setup with No and default until steady. Do a factory reset in Settings,
Storage and boot up again. Then shut her off again and restart as previously to run that
PH98IMG.zip again.
After the next boot up, insert actual information like Google etc. to start Google Play
and fetch your favorite apps. Then you're running 100% stock.
noticed the same thing with in calls. Pull the phone away from your ear and the screen should come back on, but it seems delayed. I usually have to tap the power button twice to get the screen back on.
Running simplistic 3.0 which is based on the newest leak, after flashing the leak.
FWIW I have the issue with the screen not coming back on after pulling the phone away form your ear as well, however I'm on the ICS OTA, not the global.
I never had the problem on the ICS OTA, but I also only had that for a couple of days before getting the global (.1) from Android Police.
In the process of doing the second flash. As per michaels instructions.
I went to Verizon yesterday and tried seeing about exchanging the phone, since it's having all these problems, and was told no. That it's so common and pretty much every phone has the same things, so it's considered to be working and I just have to wait on a patch. He then told me that if I wanted I could void my warranty and s-off it to go back to GB. I found that kind of odd. Then he tried pushing the Razr on me, I said no I like HTC so then he told me that the Droid 4's are having the same problems too.

[Q] Borked i717

I'm a casual enthusiast who has always rooted his Android phones without an issue but have run into problems with an i717 I recently bought. I've gone through quite a bit of troubleshooting over the past few days and am beaten and must ask for help. When I first bought the phone, it was woefully out of date so using Kies, I updated the phone. All was good and phone was up to 4.0.4 (or whatever the most current version is) and working perfectly unrooted. At that point, I rooted it using qbking77 instructions on YouTube. Per RootChecker I was rooted but noticed I couldn't connect to the internet without WiFi. At this point, the trains went off the track as I tried to install a stock 4.0.4 modem which didn't work, panicked and used Da_G's [Stock ODIN] ROM trying to get back to stock. At this point, I started getting error messages like "android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly", something similar about calendar, phone won't work, etc. Also, when I go into recovery mode, I can navigate up and down with the volumes keys but can't select anything with the power key and after about 10 seconds, it goes to an ominous screen with a red triangle and exclamation point. Phone stats currently are:
Android 2.3.6
Baseband: I717UCLF6
Kernel: 2.6.35.11
Gingerbread.UCLA1
In any case I'm really bummed as I just bought this phone on Monday and have already borked it. Any help appreciated and unfortunately I am not familiar with all of the acronyms and nomenclature around here so direct links to helpful post would be useful. At this point, I just want to get to the most current stock AT&T ROM possible. Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for the response and as I indicated above, I have tried Da_G's methods in the 2nd link multiple times with no success. I'll go through the steps in the first link and see what happens. I am looking for something to wipe the phone completely clean as there is not a thing on it I need. Hopefully these will do the business. One thing that I am not able to sort out is how to tell if a ROM comes with a modem, how to tell from the settings on my phone if a proper modem is installed and if I need to install a modem, how to tell which is the correct modem for the ROM installed. I have read quite a bit on modems but there is just so much information I'm honestly a little confused. Thanks again for your input and I'll post up results later tonight when I have time to troubleshoot.
Looks like you are on a GB rom (2.3.6) with ICS (4.0.4) modem. You can flash a GB modem or use KIES firmware upgrade and initialization to put you back to completely stock ICS (UCLF6)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27869730&postcount=1
Title says GB because that was the latest supported ROM at the time of posting. This will put you back to stock UCLF6.

I had a feeling it had something to do with the modem. I did a search for GB modems and am overwhelmed by the amount of options! I found this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1764210 but am unsure what the numerical designators are; EL 26, EL29, etc. Do these make a difference for what I am trying to do? Thanks for posting up and helping out. Can't wait to get home and get this damn phone sorted out.
Forget the modem -- there's no such thing as a GB or ICS modem -- they are independent of the android version.
What you have is the LATEST modem, so that part is OK.
The crazy error messages you're getting are from multiple flashes without cache wipes and system wipes.
The LF6 is year and month of release in samsungese.
Did you install a custom recovery, like CWR or TWRP?
That's your first move toward a good phone.

I didn't knowingly install a custom recovery unless it was built into a ROM I installed as the phone was new to me and I didn't have any data on it I felt I needed to be recovered. I now have the feeling that this isn't the type of recovery "custom recovery" is used for. I can get into "Android system recovery" through vol+/- and power if that is what you are talking about but like my original post mentioned, I can thumb up and down through the options with the volume keys but can't select anything with the power key. I was able to select with the power button upon originally installing the first 2 ROMs so I don't believe it is a hardware issue with the button. How do I tell if I have a custom recovery installed and what are the steps to take if I don't. Pardon my ignorance but I always assumed there was a way to completely wipe these devices and start over as long as you could access the device through Windows. I have nothing on this phone to save and just want to get it back to stock. I wish I could get Kies to allow me to factory reset but I keep getting the "Your device's current firmware version is not supported to update through Kies". I know we are encouraged to read and learn on our own but as in any forum this size, there is quite a bit of ambiguous information available and I am frankly lost and it also doesn't help that I seem to be having multiple issues at once. If the modem is okay, and I don't have a custom recovery installed, what is the next step? Again, thanks to all of you taking the time to help out! I know what it's like to have a passion for something and the ability to help others work their way out of issues, mine just happens to be carbureted Japanese motorcycles, not phones!
Ignore the "your device current firmware" message in KIES. Open KIES, Put your phone in download mode, connect to PC , in KIES, select tools, firmware upgrade and initialization, enter your model (SGH-I717), it will ask for the serial number so have it handy, and continue through the prompts as outlined in the aforementioned post. KIES will completely reset your device to UCLF6. (Recovery, modem, system, etc.) You will be stock un-rooted when complete.

Well thanks to rsfinsrq's advice, the phone appears to be restored! No more error messages and everything seems to be running smoothly but I still can't get internet connectivity without WiFi. I can send/receive texts and calls but no internet browsing, Google Play, etc. Under Settings-->About Phone-->Status-->Mobile Network State is listed as "Disconnected". What could be causing this? I am leery to go poking around with it this soon but would like to get the full use of the phone. Thoughts?

Reading a little more on this, it seems this might be an issue with my AT&T plan and this particular device. I'll run by the AT&T store tomorrow to see if I can get it sorted. If anyone does have any additional suggestions, post them up!

Same spot, go to access point names, hit the menu button and reset to default.
Mystery solved! A trip to the AT&T store and I was told the lack of connectivity was due to my SIM card not being provisioned for an LTE enabled phone and it was "confusing" the network. 5 minutes spent getting a new SIM card and I was out the door, no muss no fuss and my very first positive experience with AT&T customer service. I guess there is a first for everything! Thanks again to everyone who helped out and I will definitely make sure I am a little more educated the next time I root and flash a ROM. Any suggestions for a stable ROM for me to start with?
Glad to hear you got it sorted out!

[Q] New ROM, Cell not Working

Hey guys,
Just rooted my phone today, and have had a pretty bumpy time. I've made it through most of it, but am having trouble getting a new ROM installed (NilsP's Business ICS Sense 6.4). Basically, install is going fine, but when I make it to the ROM, I get no cell signal, no data, and gps won't turn on.
I'm running S-on, and the install will complete and it will automatically reboot to hboot for the kernel. However, nothing happens that indicates that the kernel installed. Upon reboot, the ROM will open, I'll skip through the setup wizard, and once out cell, data, and gps fail to turn on.
I tried placing the kernel's zip file directly onto my SD card's root drive. Once booted to hboot, the kernel will install. However, problem will persist. I updated to 6.4 OTA with no change. I tried disabling the Fast Boot option and cycled various settings, as suggested in NilsP's original thread. Prior to rooting, I had the most current update from Verizon (pushed through about a week or two ago). I even tried installing with the s-off option, which gave the same result.
I spent about five hours today searching these forums, as well as others, for a similar issue but was unable to find one. Until I figure out a way forward. I feel like I'm missing something simple, since I'm almost there! As I said, I'm a newbie, so forgive me if I misused any terms. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

Yup, tried with the lid back on, too. Figured there must have been an important circuit with all those contacts in there.
I'll try the reset from HBoot later this evening. I wiped every time I tried to reflash the OS, though only from the recovery menu. I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks for the help guys, it ended up installing just fine after a factory reset from Hboot. Now I'm running into the same Play Services issue as everyone else using this ROM. Go figure. I'll monitor NilsP's original ROM thread for a solution. Looks like he's working on it already.

[Q] Boot Loop - Have I tried Everything?!?

Hi,
I'm a bit new here and running a good old-fashioned stock Inc 4G LTE, never rooted or flashed to new ROM. It DOES have the latest OTA update from Verizon a couple months ago.
This morning my phone suddenly went off after working OK. Then when trying to restart, I get an infinite boot loop and it won't get past the red Droid screen. I've searched various threads and tried what I think are the most obvious things, and nothing seems to help. But I want to make sure there are no other options before I throw it in the trash.
Here's what I tried:
- Tried entering Safe Mode by holding down volume key after HTC screen comes on. Makes no difference, does not enter Safe Mode.
- Get to HBOOT OK. Says 'LOCKED' and I am running HBOOT v.1.15.0000.
- - In HBOOT, I've tried running Recovery a couple times. Seems to go OK, but just starts looping when restarting.
- - In HBOOT, tried running Recovery > Wipe Cache Partition. Says cache is cleared.
- - In HBOOT, tried running Recovery > Wipe data/factory reset. Seem to go through OK.
- - In HBOOT, tried running Factory Reset.
- - In HBOOT, tried running Clear Storage.
- Pulled battery and tried spare.
- Removed SD card.
Some history - this phone has always been very sluggish. A few months ago started shutting down when doing camera intensive things (would jump to battery at critical level). So I did a factory reset a couple weeks ago and was slowly adding some of the essential apps back in. It crashed trying to upload photos to Facebook. Last night I had just moved some apps to the Phone storage and set my Sound Profile app to change profiles in the morning. This is about the time the phone crashed.
Anything else I should try before giving up?
Can I try to root and install a custom ROM to fix when in this state? Is this now possible with latest OTA update?
If custom ROM is last chance, is there a really solid one running 4.3 and Sense?
THANKS! May be time to get a HTC One or iPhoney, as I'm just not into huge phones that are coming out...

If your on bootloader 1.15.0000 and now 1.16.0000, try using the stock Ruu and restoring the phone. If not, try rebooting in bootloader and factory reset.
If that doesn't work, gain root (if you haven't) and get s-off/unlock bootloader/CID set to 111111, and try a custom rom. If all else fails, take it back to stock and unroot/s-on/CID back to VZW/Relocked.
Call Verizon and tell them you need a replacement. The phone randomly gets real hot and reboots. They should send you a new one no problem.
I girlfriend had the random reboots, ending up getting it replaced. Now shes on her 4th or 5th incredible lte. (data Issues & random reboots)

I tried running a stock 2.17.. RUU, but got a "Failed" message because the software was too old. I'm guessing that is because I'm on the newer 2.19.. OTA update?!? Anyone know where to get a RUU file for the latest 2.19 version? I've been searching with no luck.
I'll have to research how to root/unlock the phone when it won't boot. Any specific threads that have fairly detailed instructions would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I looked at the thread about how to successfully root & flash the phone when it has the Verizon OTA update (2.19.xx) found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2664460.
But it appears at first glance that to do it the phone needs to be booted up and connected to the computer via USB. I can only get my phone to the HBOOT screen, nothing else.
- Can anyone confirm that to unlock and/or flash a new ROM on this phone that it has to be able to boot up? No way to do it on my phone with the 2.19 software and constant rebooting?
Thanks. It's cosmetically perfect, so I feel bad about throwing it away. If I can get it back up somehow I could at least sell it or give it to someone in need.

If you want to use mdmower's "temp-root" trick, then you'll need to be able to access the device through Android Debug Bridge. Can you see the device if you type
Code:
adb devices
after booting up past the bootloader?

Hi. I've never tried running ADB. Not very familiar with it at all. But my phone will not boot past the HBOOT option. No matter what I've tried, it will just go into a rebooting loop. I'm assuming it needs to be fully booted up to work with ADB?!?
- Is there an RUU for the latest software update (2.19.xx) somewhere that I can try running to see if it will help it fully boot?
- Any other options?
Thanks!

Yes, my understanding is that to use adb, you need to be able to boot into the OS with usb debugging turned on. Hopefully someone will come along with a worthwhile response!
Is anyone aware of more current RUU's than are menteioned here?

If the phone failed as a completely stocked phone, why not try returning as opposed to figuring out how to root a broken phone?

Huawei Ascend P2 probems

OK. So. I've been encountering nothing but problems since I received my Huawei Ascend P2 phone.
To begin with -
I bought the phone for the sole purpose of it being 4G/LTE. When I got it, I couldn't figure out how to get it, so I contacted Three and was told that my phone had to be 4.3 - it was running 4.1.2.
When I tried to get 4.3 through whatever means, it stopped working.
I tried to do a complete factory reset and now I'm getting many more problems -
I keep getting errors that anything Google related has stopped working (especially Google keyboard).
My contacts won't auto-sync, despite me having my Google account synced up with it.
The icons at the bottom of the screen (back, home, settings/whatever else) won't light up and the home button isn't working.
It's a different loading screen than normal - before it was a Huawei Ascend splash screen, now it just says "Android".
It is not being detected by my laptop whatsoever.
When I try and download anything using a browser, it says "starting download" but nothing works.
So, anyone have a solution? It is driving me demented. And all because I wanted bloody 4G.

I think we need some more info on the attempt to upgrade via whatever means. What steps / guide were you following? Did you install a custom rom? If so, what rom and what recovery are you using? From a few minutes of searching around, it seems that there is no official 4.3 update for the phone, and just being ON 4.3 itself will not automagically enable LTE service as this has much to do with the radio/baseband used as much as the actual operating system and that will not get updated via a custom rom (99.999% of the time unless SPECIFICALLY stated). Seems like they are working on an LTE capable update/patch for 4.1.2 soon according to this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50495570&postcount=162 (that post is part of a thread about your phone on a UK carrier so should be pertinent).

Thank you for your reply.
I'll talk you through the steps I took as much as I can.
Firstly I rooted the phone using eRoot, which did work and allowed root access.
I then downloaded P2Tools, which was obtained from this thread and it allowed me to put CWM on it.
Once this was done, I attempted to put CM 10.2 on it, but kept getting a Status 7 error. Some quick Googling later, I discovered this video, which showed how to solve it.
When I followed the steps on there, I kept getting a Status 0 error.
That was when I started to encounter those problems, so I wiped everything I could, even system, but that part failed.
And that's about it.

K. So you are still on the stock rom, rooted, with CWM recovery (which version?), and after you attempted to wipe /system, it failed to wipe (what was the error message there?), and now it boots and has all kinds of weird glitches? First thing to try would be to go back to CWM and wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache and then Fix Permissions. This MIGHT help. If it doesn't then you will just probably want to throw a stock rom back on there to get back to running right again.

I've wiped the Caches and Dalvik Cache and can't seem to find "Fix Permissions". I did some searching and it seems this feature was removed from CWM? I'm running v6.0.3.7 of CMW.
When I try to format the system, it says
E:format_volume failed to unmount "/system"
Error formatting /system!
Weird, they did take it out. Koush said it was a placebo. Which normally I would take as law, if it weren't for many times I have ran fix permissions and it caused apps that were force closing to not force close anymore. But whatever, if you wanna try, flash this: http://db.tt/9aWdF8Rp. It'll either help fix something, or do nothing. Won't make it any worse. If it can't mount to format though, it's either or a bug with CWM for your device, or after factory reset, reboot recovery and try again. But you really don't want to wipe /system unless you have a nandroid or another rom on your storage that is accessible.
Thanks so much for your help so far. Took me ages to figure out how to get that file on my phone, but I managed to do it. I then installed zip from recovery mode and chose the fix_permissions. Then reboot and it asked me to root the phone again. It's now upgrading and hopefully it will work now.
It is still saying "Unfortunately, Android keyboard has stopped" and other things. What do you reckon I can do now? You're right, it seems like I can't make it any worse.

Ok. So looks like first thing to check is to see WHICH version of the P2 you have because it seems like there are at least 2 different sub versions of it. The P2-6070 and the P2-6011. Please go to Settings / About Phone/Device and let me know all the software info there.
Also, have you unlocked the bootloader (I'm guessing so since you have recovery, but just checking)?
I found some more info on how to get you back up and running, but want to confirm the system version so everything goes as smoothly as possible. There's a new update that just came out not too long ago that people are saying LTE works on, so hopefully we can get you to that point.

Mine is the P2-6011.
Swear if we get this working, never changing anything ever.
Yes, the bootloader is unlocked.
Alright, so here is a link for the newest firmware for your phone :
http://huaweidevices.ru/ROM4221/P2/...R001C00B038CUSTC19D001_United_Kingdom_H3G.rar
Need to be on stock recovery. Unpack the rar file and put the whole folder /dload on the root of the SD card. This has the update.app that should take care of everything for you. Turn off the phone and turn it on by holding Vol + and - and Power together. This is supposed to boot it into the mode to take care of the update for you.
If you don't wanna go back to complete stock, I have another way that involves switching to TWRP recovery and restoring a rom via nandroid restore. If you'd prefer that, lemme know and I'll shoot you the links.

If I ever meet you I definitely owe you a drink. Did exactly as you said and everything (from what I can tell) is working.
It's one of the things I love about Android phones - unless you do some serious damage to it physically, for the most part it is fixable.
So, thanks button isn't enough - you saved me giving up and buying a new phone
*Hi Five* Glad all is well!
But yea, I do this for a living. Seriously. Helping people on here is how I stay sharp. lol
getting a gateway 504 error from link to firmware, would love to get this update working as i keep getting a notification on phone saying update available but it wont work
