Dismantling/Assembling Htc Touch 3g... I need help! - Touch 3G Accessories

Hello
Hope everybody's fine.
I bought Htc Touch 3g housing set from ebay and I want to change the old one.
I found a very good dismantling guide here:
http://translate.google.co.uk/trans...orka/htc_touch_3g/&sl=ru&tl=en&hl=en&ie=UTF-8
I haven't tried it yet. But I opened my Phone and I think I am going to have trouble at step 5 6 12
specially step 6 { I don't know how much pressure to apply to unplug it?! does it have any lock above the wire or not }
and what about stick in step 12? it is ok to dismantle it ...but what about assembling it again!?
Any help is regarded
Thank you in advance!!

il be doing this in the next week or so , when the digitiser i have ordered today from ebay arrvies. dont think you will have too much trouble, normally them cables just slide in and out or have a latch you slide back or lift to release cable, cant tell from the pics, but it shoud be easy. the stickytape you shoud be able to put back after, if not use some double sided underneath it to fix it back lol .
il post back when iv done if you havnt attempted it by than, and let you know how it went. am not looking foward to seperating the digitiser and casing oh no

Hey dear...
thx
So please come here and update us...
I had several rainbow in my digitizer...I fixed it very very easily by this method....:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=682676

my jade lives again, so am happy
i was right , the ribbons for the lcd are the plug type, you cant rally mess this up unless you push too hard at a funny angle, just lift from underneath like in the guide. the digitiser has a black clip that you lift to release the ribbon than slide it out.
i never removed the tape from the lcd, but did from the ribbons and re used it after, if all your doing is changing housing, just remove the button pcb and lcd as one like i did , its eaiser
i was right , removing the old digitiser was a right pain, but i got there in the end lol.
i totally agree with the whole moisture thing, cut my old one up into layers and moisture in the wrong place will sure mess it up. il try it if it ever happens again so thanks for the info
hope this was helpfull

Hey
Thank you for reporting back
I want to change my housing....I ordered it and received it...
But I want to change it several months later
What was the hardest part? In which step damage to phone is possible?
Please tell me...
Thank you in advance

in all steps damage is possible, just have to use common sense. your most likely to do damage to the lcd if your too rough removing it from its clips. if theres nothing wrong with your original housing and your not confident enough to do this its prob better you dont. if it aint broke, dont fix it. or if your me, modify it lol.

so, how did do go about it then?
any feedback highly appreciated, since i need to swap the digitzer on my jade!?
my special interest lies within step 12 of the guide from pdacenter:
is it necessary to unstick from the screen plume front buttons? if i only need to change the digitzer?
looks like i can extract the whole section by just jumping to step 13 and loosen the screws and then extracting the whole lcd, in order to get to the digitizer...right?

Broken LCD Screen

Hi Guys
My name is Luis and I live in Costa Rica. I have a HTC Jade which recently got the LCD screen broken . I really really appreciate if you can name me an Accesories Store located in USA to buy the screen. Since I live in Costa Rica it seems to be the logical place to import. HK is a little bit far from us!
Thank you in advance.
Brando ships worldwide and is pretty reliable. Why not use them?
On ebay.com I found some offers as well, some for about 33USD, like half price as from Brando Shop...
How to Dismantle
Hi,
I also have a broken lcd. I ordered a replacement from brando. Is there a service manual or dismantling guide that shows how to replace the LCD?
TIA
Scary Procedure
Hello! My touch screen is scratched and I bought another one to replace it. Well, it isn't so easy and after I dismantled the device, I decided not to replace it and wait for some tips because no documentation exists. No manual included with the package and no info on the net. (there are some youtube videos for other phones)
After you open the device, you end up with your phone in 3 parts. The Touch screen has a black marquee surrounding it witch I don't know how to remove, and it is connected with the main board with a very very thin wire witch I'm afraid to pull and I'm not sure if I have to pull it or do something else to remove it from the main board. Tips are welcome. Thank you!
since I am not allowed to post links, try following :
use google and type jade lcd dismantling. among pages you will see mikechannon.net, go there and find HTC JADE, click on it and here you are

i've tried to open the device.
It's not so hard:
AT OWN RISC!!!
Unscrew the 4 screws, click it slightly open.
now you can see on 1 side a small flatcable for the digitizer, unlock it by swapping the behind of the connector. Unplug it.
Flip the PCB and unplug the 2 connectors for the screen and buttons.
Now you can unscrew 2 litle screws at the buttons.
remove the buttons carefully.
Now you can slightly press on the back of the old digitizer untill it loosses.
Place the new one, carefully press on the glue-parts untill you think it is tight enough.
Now read this post backwards to put it all together again.
If you're ready, push the on button.
When it asks for the pincode press : volume up + centerbutton to calibrate.
Et voila.
AT OWN RISC!!!
i'm not responsible for any damage.
Scratched external screen
Hi Marcell-o! I also managed to open it. But the problem is at the last step. the external screen has some kind of black "rubber" that holds it in place. that's where I don't know what to do. I attached a pic to see what I mean.
Thanks for your reply!

You can leave it there.
You have to push at the back of the digitizer.
it's verry tight glued so you have to be patient and careful that you do not break the housing.
The rubber you talk about is meant to leave dust out of there.
i placed my new one just now and it works great.
I made some pictures of the repair and i'll post them tomorrow if i don't forget.
Pictures of the repair
Here are some pictures with some info.
And again:
AT YOURE OWN RISC, I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE!!
before the repair it was like this.
As you can see, it was in a very bad shape.
you can see what i use the most.
The "X" at the upper right corner and the IE scrollbar (yeah thats right, i use Explorer )
When you managed to open the cover you can see at the right side that there is a very small flatcable. (this is the Digitizer cable)
You can open the connector by flipping the handle to vertical.
Use tweezers to unplug it.
Now you can flip the mainboard. As you can see there are 2 more flatcables unplug them with tweezers.
by the way: #1 is for the screen and #2 is for the buttons
Place the mainboard on a safe place so it can't be harmed.
Now the hard part!
Unscrew the 2 very small screws on the red spots and save them on a place where you can find them back again (I lost one and it took a half an hour to find it back on the floor with a magnet whehe)
Now the screen and the button-PCB is ready to take apart from the casing. A bit of the flatcable is glued so be patient.
When you managed to loosen the screen and buttons, place this part at a safe place so it can't be harmed.
Now this is tricky.
Now you have only a front casing with the digitizer.
It's very tight glued so you have to press at the back of the digitizer to loosen it. Be patient, you can break the casing of your device.
Also take care that you do not break the flatcable of the old digitizer because you have to place the cable of the new one at the same way, take a look at the old one when you placed it apart from the casing.
You have to flip the cable like this picture when you placed the new one in the casing.
when you did this, you can replace a little cushion which you had to remove from the flatcable from the old digitizer.
Now replace the screen and button part. replug the 2 flatcables, place the mainboard its place, replug the small flatcable of the digitizer (be sure that the handle is vertical when you do this. When the cable is plugged, place the handle horizontal.
Replace the backcover, the 4 screws, simcard and the memorycard and batterycover.
Press the on button.
Et voila!
As good as new :
The only issue is, that we do not have a dust free environment like HTC has.
The result:
Don't forget to calibrate
All the pictures are clickable.
Sorry for my bad English
And now one more beer and a long sleep
Thanks!
Thank you Marcello! I will give it one more try.
Hi Marcell-o your guide looks solid and the pics look nice...
You are from the Netherlands, where did you get your screen? I am from Belgium, that's why I am asking...
I have two problems with my Jade:
1) My screen is all scratched up, and I need to replace it, so for this only the upper part is needed, right?
2) A few weeks ago when I was in the bathroom and took the phone with me there is since a square "oily" stain in the middle of the screen. I read elsewhere that it's due to the humid enviroment, so I guess I need to replace the LCD part too?
I saw that the screws beneath the backcover are Torx, but what number Torx is it exactly, and is that same Torx used for the screws on the mailboard of the phone?
Thanks in advance for any answers!
Greetz
I bought it here: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260513873708
verry good price!
I'm sorry, i do not know the torx number i was just happy to have the right one.
What you need for the scratched screen is indeed the touchpart(digitizer)
The screws inside(for the buttons/screen) are just the four points(?)(kruisschroef) The mainboard is clicked.
Can you make a picture of the "oil" stain maybe it's also solved with the digitizer replacement.
Hi Guys,
just this morning I've managed to replace a digitizer in my Jade, as it was punctured by some pointy child's teeth . A bit unlucky though, cause I couldn't find this thread before (silly me !) as to get some instructions how to do that.
I'd like to add some tips to Marcell-o's guide:
1. The tools you need are:
TORX T6 screwdriver for 4 outside screws
Philips PH0 (or 00) screwdriver for 2 inside (button panel) screws
Thin Tweezers for replacing flat cables.
Office/Swiss knife for replacing Digitizer itself
2. To prevent any damage to your front cover, I would recommend to 'cut-off' the Digitizer from the inside, before pushing it out. I used a thin Swiss knife for this and started from the top corners, slowly going towards the bottom. This also left all (or most) of the glue at the case side so there was no need to apply additional glueing.
See attached Photo
[Sorry for adding like that, but I'm not allowed to add link as a new user]
3. To make your Jade scratch-proof as well as responding better to your fingers, I'd recommend the Advanced Screen Protector from ProPorta.com. It's nothing close to cheap crap from e-bay as 3 screens for a quid and literally increases touch sensitivity rather than decrease.
Good luck!

I got mine from eBay. And for me, it wasn't as easy as I thought. I used to dissemble my previous HTC phones and I think the HD is the hardest so far. Maybe cause its slim so everything is packed tightly together?
I had a difficult time trying to pry open the antenna cover. Maybe I didn't get it right, or maybe mine was particularly light. I ended up chipping a part of my antenna cover off. Luckily Im replacing it so that didn't matter. wanted to change the bezel as well but I think I'll wait until there is a video tutorial before attempting again.

Good luck as whn replacing the digitizer you will most likley break the LCD.
Where I work we have recently begun replacing digitisers on a number of HTC models, the Blackstone has a good success rate on average, we break the lcd in a few cases, the blackstone and diamond are the most difficult to replace sucessfully, we have found that carefully heating the digitiser helps to soften the double-sided adhesive tape used to stick the digitiser to the frame, and carefully using a thin blade, such as a scalpel or razor blade to separate them.
However it is a difficult process, and the risk of damage is quite high without specialist jigs and tools.
Good luck, and take it slowly and carefully.
...I insist
My opinion (i have replaced the screen successfully and I am familiar with transfer adhesives): if you are not a professional, don't replace the digitzer only but get a pre-assembled LCD+digitizer. it looks more expensive at the beginning, but at the end you'll save money AND time...
Hi. i just make this mistake, first i buy only digitaizer, i start change i broke the lcd, after i order the lcd only. i start fix together, everything ok, buth the digitaizer dont working. i conect everythink, 4 times i check and nothing, wath is the problem. i read manuals wath movies, and i dint find answer for my problem.
Please help.
yeh after getting the lcd and digi away from frame i made the mistake of peeling the digi off and finding out its got double sided sticky tape which will never look the same unless new sticky is aplied which i dont think we can do, so i bit the bullet and ordereed a pre asemmbled lcd and digi for £54
Any ideas how to glue preassembled lcd+digi to new housing? No sticky tape there.. maybe a link where can i buy such a thin tape.. cant find it in local stores

Thanks much! I think this needs to be a sticky!
hey...
just follow the service manual, the phone is *quite* easy to disassemble...
Just one remark : when yo get your old screen, check all the sticky plastics are present on the new one. if not, get the old ones and put them on the new.
I ordered a new screen some weeks ago, got it, and placed it. it didn't work, I think it was because two connectors touched a part of metal... after checking I saw the plastic present on old wasn't on new.... I think it was the problem......
(btw, the s740 screen is really not tough....)
Eh I performed a screen replacement on my fiance's Rose and using the manual helped, but it still wasn't easy in my opinion. All of that conducting tape wasn't the easiest to deal with, and putting it back down was no where as neat as it originally was. And the replacement screen is much darker than the original, although when off they look identical. One of her keys is a bit mushy now too, as the cable in the back was a bit longer than the original so it was folded up in the phone which I don't think helped things out.
Jason
I'm planning on replacing my screen and I've found this guide, which seems to be a good one: http://www.jmedved.com/2010/01/how-to-replace-broken-screen-on-htc
I've seen that guide in the past but it isn't really helpful...the best guide available is this one http://mikechannon.net/PDF Manuals/HTC_Rose_Service_Manual_A03_GENERIC.pdf

[Q] Questions about screen replacement

Hi xda community,
I had just broken my screen and started finding for a replacement. And i have found two nice items at EBAY:
First one
Second one
First one doest have FRAME. So, the question actualy is: what is the best choice? As i undestand, you should have difficult work with only screen replacement (first link). Item from second link have only frame, so i should transplantate other parts from my current screen module, which (parts) can be very small and difficult to install.
I need you suggestion about what variant is better for reparing phone yourself.
Thank in advance
For the same price, I would definitely use the one that has a frame.
As far as I know, it is possible to replace the screen only. but because the screen is taped to the frame, you would need to break (as in litterally break) the screen and take out the shreds and then try to replace it with the new one. there should be guides on google/youtube/xda. should not be to difficult, however, I would first do some research on what you could do wrong/mess up before deciding what to do.
I replaced mine with one that included a frame. it is quite easy to replace, and almost idiot-proof. This thread will help you. Just do not scratch around on the board with the screwdriver and do try not to touch any metal components with your fingers. You need about 20 min of time and a screwdriver that goes with the screws under the batery cover.

hope it helps

thank for you answer, but if you watch my second link better you can see that with frame variant doesn't have any sensors,wires,boards-it's not a full module as on xda thread which you provided.so i need replace them from my phone, what is difficult.
yes, I did not see that. it has the cables for the screen and the touch buttons, though. and it is not dificult to move the small parts. I had to move the sensors, front camera and the lower board (where the usb and one antenna fixture is) from the old to the new screen. they are held in place by double-sided sticky tape. if you are careful you can just pull at the cables gently and push them out with a toothpick or something like that.
in the end it is a question of preferences, if you rather change the front side or the backside of the frame... but I still think moving the things in the back is easier...
Hi everyone,
I have some question about screen replacement myself.
My dad just dropped his note 2 and damaged the screen (really unfortunate, it was really a little drop!), so I was looking into buying a screen from eBay and replace it myself. yes, it's tricky, but not all that much imo (big +1 to the guy from the YT channel LE55ONS, his videos about this kind of stuff are amazingly well done).
So, the screen is broken, the display is not, but if I bring the phone to the rapair guy he will almost certainly replace the screen and the display for €200+
If I buy something like this
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trk...=note+2+replacement+screen&_sacat=0&_from=R40
and replace it myself I can do the whole thing and spend some €50 tops.
I was thinking about this one
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gray-Front-...093?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a7dc376c5
Here come the questions. Can anyone point me towards a good screen replacement for something around $20/30?
Are these Gorilla Glass 2? Is the quality good?
Also, seems like these don't have any connectors, the original one has 2. I can always use the connectors from the old screen, but if someone knows about a screen with connectors included, can they please let me know?
Thank you everyone

It doesnt matter. But I reckon theres a 95% chance youll break the lcd. There was a guy posting all over the place that he managed to do it.
Its up to you if you want to risk it.
