Yes, I'm a huge n00b. - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there!
Well, despite the huge warnings in red colors, I installed the official RUU 2.1 update. My HTC Hero is now with 2.1 and works fine, but I would like to install a Spanish language pack (MoreLocale doesn't works). Yes, I know I could wait to the WWE version but... The mistake is done. So, my questions are:
1.- Could I rollback my firmware or try to install a custom rom? How? (I tried Goldcard + Previous version without success)
2.- Could I install a spanish locale?
Thanks in advance and congratulations for the great job you're doing today. How many roms in less than 24h!

This is a so-called 'WE TOLD YOU SO' situation..
But, have you tried an old RUU package?

Yes, and I can't install the previous one. I also noticed that my bootloader version is newer (000004 before, 000007 now).
It's suposed to be possible? (install the prev. Version, I mean)

Maybe with the goldcard method, but not guaranteed it will work.

Ok, I'll try later again, but I'm not sure if this is gonna work, because I tried it twice a while ago.
Thanks!

Good luck

Tried twice with the GoldCard method (I did it well, because it worked when I updated) and I get this error:
Checking Main Version
Update fail!
And in the RUU installer:
Error [140] Error bootloader version (or something like that)
Suggestions?

Wait for someone who is able to root the new rom...sorry...

hi, i'm just a noob like you, i had to do the goldcard method, it didn't work the first time, but to make sure i was following the tutorial, i had to print it, and follow again, and then it worked, make sure you pick up the right one for your phone. and start from the beginning again , i'm sure you'll get it to work at the end, don't give up. just go through what you doing step by step, you'll find what was wrong.

Ok, I'm trying right now. Will post results.
Thanks!

hi, i've loaded my first custom rom,the new villainRom 10, wow the phone is very quick, plus pinching the main screen the new feature, great.
first i didn't know which rom to use, had to go with what btdag got. all the credit goes to him on a great tutorial plus villainRom great rom.
downloaded the new radio, haven't installed it yet. got to do more reading first before i do, to be on the safe side. goodluck uniyah hope you got it sorted.
cheers to all the devs and tutors

Well, I tried the GoldCard method for 15 times. It just doesn't works. I think it checks the version and give me this error.
One question: Is possible to install the Spanish locale?

For now it's just impossible to root the new 2.1 because nobody has done it yet so for now you will have to wait... However, the Sprint Hero had been rooted a few days ago so I think that it won't take ages to root our Hero...
Try MoreLocal in the market for installing Spanish...

MoreLocale doesn't works.
So, there is nothing I can do for downgrade? Any other Goldcard methods or something like that?

I don't think so... In my opinion some guy will find a way to root the new rom but you will have to wait...
As you have seen Gold card doesn't work...So the protection against root has changed...

New HBOOT probably denies installation of lower version than it already is on the phone, thats why you can't run any of the previous RUUs. Tough luck

Rooted 2.1 official rom's are out now try vilain 10 but be careful when flashing the radio because i just bricked mine flshing it :'(

Brrr, and I can't get into recovery mode. I get this when I try to put the phone in recovery mode (Power + Home button)

Can you go back to a retail 8525 AT&T ROM after...

Is it possible to go back to an AT&T Rom without problems after (what I think) having SSPL installed? What happened was that I had a retail WM5 on it, then went to VP6's Rom, then found the AT&T official Rom and installed that. If the final comes, and I run it, will I have issues??
Thank you

Theres a direct link.. I just got thru doing this with no problems. I would flash the radio/original rom first before downgrading the spl.
Thanks guys.

Sure. You will need to unpack the official HTC rom and put the nbh file in a folder with the custom_ruu. It won't flash using the ruu shipped from HTC, but it is a piece of cake.
You just unrar the exe file and pull the nbh out, drop it in a folder with custom_ruu and you're off.
Thank you
By the way, if I downgrade to a retail SPL, will I lose the subsidy unlock? I unlocked my phone via a code from AT&T.
Thanks again!

Well, I have never unlocked my Hermes using the code from AT&T. I have always done it via pof's unlocker. Reflashing has never relocked my device or any other that I have seen. So, I think that you are safe.
Also, I believe that the unlock code is calculated using an algorithm based on the IMEI number. So, even if it did relock, the code SHOULD unlock it again.
If all that fails, just use the unlocker that pof made!
Thanks to everyone for their time.
I currently downgraded to SPL-1.06
When I run the retail ROM that is:
RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_3_1_.57.502.1_6275_1.48.00.00_108-ATT-MR3_Ship
I get a crash that says this:

I just want to have the ability to update to retail ROM's whenever I can without extracting the exe files and running them manually.
To tell you the truth, I am selling this to a buddy and he's not really computer literate, so I don't want to help him out every second. He needs to upgrade to the retail AT&T ROM for the 8525 once it's out in a month or two. Right now I am giving him the AT&T (beta) rom that I found on this site.
Any help would be appreciate it.

Looks like Vista. Have you checked out MrVanx guide for Vista flashing?
Yes, Vista is working fine for flashing and I've followed that guide and it all works. I've flashed this phone without problems through Vista and ActiveSync for Vista.

[Q] PB81

Anyone, any ideas?
Quite some time ago, when HD2 was brand new, there were some people around with unofficial beta-ROMs on their devices. Don´t exactly know what was going on, but I am quite sure the search function will bring this or that into light for you.
Maybe flashing with a Goldcard might help, not sure. But apparently, your SPL seems to face troubles, no wonder you´ve got freezes etc.
Did you try to flash something older than the 3.14 stock ROM? A lot of users are not happy with this anyway...
Also, older SIM cards or some SD cards can cause issues, did you try to flash without those in the device?
I flashed all three ROMs which are available to download at HTC Website via RUU and direct from SD-Card. I also tried to install all SPL which are available from Bepe and Cotulla. I got the Security Unlocked line away on top but the freezing problems are ongoing as before.
Actual I have two HD2s, both are from same Provider with same SIM-lock but with different SIM-Unlocks. I did a photo of Boot Screen and this shows the difference. I have actual on both last Stock ROM.

As you can see, the difference is in first line "PB 81100" and "PB 81***" I think I have to improve here but not glue how to???
Update:
And now it becomes really strange. I already flashed the strange phone with Stock ROM from SD-Card so you can see above. After that I did a flash with latest ARTEMIS ROM and SSPL_RUU and the following Boot Screen appears
So before flashing there was SPL 3 on phone, while flashing there was SPL1.42.6666 on phone and after flashing there is SPL 3 again on phone???

Sir, SSPL works only for 1 (one) cycle. After you reboot the phone, your SPL will return to the original one (the one before SSPL).
SPL 1.42.6666 is only a temporary SPL modifying your actual/original SPL.
Cheers
Good, good, good ... but the question is --> How do I come from PB81*** to PB81100?

As I wrote above (maybe bad english), I flashed both mobiles with latest Stock-Rom (downloaded from htc.com/de) via, SD-card. Both mobiles were sold from same Mobile provider in austria with same SIM-lock. But, they were un-SIM-locked differently. Now, one is working smoothly (the one with PB81100) and one freezes almost (the one with PB81***) and GPS is working really, really badly in comparison to the other one.
EDIT: GPS is completly NOT working on device with PB81*** on Boot-Screen :-(

hi,
i have also an htc hd2 from "3" in austria.
i flasht it to hspl 2.08 without any problems.
but! since i let it unlock it in a mobile-store here in vienna.
the model ID- is now "PB81xxxx".
and now: it is not possible to flash it back.
here are the pics:

it seams the cnaged the model _ID during unlocking.

WT19i bootloader

OK, I'm in a bit of an unsure situation here.
My phone initially had 0.62 firmware and I downgraded to 0.58 because I thought I needed that to get root access, unlock the bootloader and install custom ROMS. However now I find out that I didn't have to do that, I think I read an old tutorial
I believe I have unlocked the bootloader already, but I'm not sure. The configuration status says that bootloader is able to be unlocked. I did the process earlier but it gave no confirmation messages. I am not going to try and upgrade to 0.62 because I do not want to brick the phone with an unlocked bootloader.
How can I check that my bootloader is in fact locked? Or can I still keep 0.58 and install a custom ROM?
My goal only really is to get root access, install a stable custom ROM and delete the irritating stock programs and other bull**** bundled with the phone. Any other bonuses like overclocking is extra but not really necessary.
U can check bootloader status in service menu.i dont knw code to enter in it.try search

No...that's not it, that only tells you if your phone is capable of having the bootloader unlocked. That doesn't say anything about whether it is or not.

Try to flash custom kernel.
If kernel is flashed and it boots it means you have unlocked bootloader if flashing fails you have locked bootloader.
Thanks for the response. I tried this now and it said it failed because it's already unlocked. OK, so I guess that's done.
I put in some custom Kernel, I think it was RAGE or something.
I wish to now put in a custom ROM.
Please help me understand which one to use. I want something that's stable and used by the majority. I only really want to be able to have root access and delete unnecessary programs, although any bonus features would be great.
I have downloaded HYBROM but as of yet still haven't tried installing it as I'm not sure how compatible it is. Any advice?
It does not matter now, I installed CyanogenMod, thanks for the responses.

Some little help so I don't need to create another topic.
I'm trying to unlock the bootloader of a LWW but it seems the PC doesn't identify the phone in fastboot properly.
The phone turns the blue light. I've tried to reinstall the flash/fast drivers already.
Any help?
Were those fastboot drivers installed properly the first time around? Are you sure they are installed?
I'm not too sure what you mean by the PC doesn't recognise it, if you have a flashing tool that should recognise it but the Windows OS may not necessarily recognise the phone connected in flash mode. I know when I first connected, nothing actually happened and I had to go into device manager and manual point to the required drivers, when that was done I was able to proceed.
Try using this tutorial:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRH3pC7MhEA
Doesn't matter if you've got fastboot.exe elsewhere in the computer, just download the given files and put them into a folder on the desktop, do exactly what he does and you should be able to get it up and running.
Open dialpad and enter *#*#service#*#*#
You have reached service menue. Choose service info and then configuration. Scroll down and look at the rooting status.
If there is bootloader unlocked: yes
then you have an unlocked bootloader, otherwise not.

Unable to find phone in Emergency or Recovery mode during KDZ flashing

Hello friends of XDA, i'm here to ask you help once again! This time the problem is about a mysteriuos p760 aka LG Optimus L9. The problems in which i came across is the unlocking the bootloader and installing a custom recovery.
I tried so many ways that i'm really out of resources and ideas... Here few screenshots of the phone informations from setting app:

I am using Windows 8.1U3 on an Alienware 17.
I'll try to explain as fast and clearly i can:
First i read about this thread and it simply didn't worked (wow totally unexpected thanks to my fortune (Y)).
Then i thought i could easily flash some KDZ with unlocked bootloader and a sparky CWM built in, so i've google a little around and i found this and I then tried to flash the
with this guide but here the fun begun! No matter how i installed drivers, rebooted the system, tried in recovery mode or S/W Mode, the software did not see any phone at all; on the contrary the device manager sees it clearly and install correctly the drivers.
After posting the errors i found an answer a month later in the same thread.
This guys advices to use this tool instead, but as you can guess from me writing here, it did not work.
Then googling again i found this guide where you can install a CWM without even unlocking the bootloader! So, hey, i just need the root!
So let's go finding some way to root this F device (may LG go bankrupt now)! Again i googled "root p760/l9/optimus/plslgdie" and i found few ways none of them working. The Saurik one tells me that there is no bug available to exploit, the Chinese all-in-one rooter seems not having any green button and other script based on adb simply do not find the phone!
Of course i've tried a lot of cables and computers, all of them not working (still i need to try another OS....) and i'm going crazy. Only another device drove me crazy like that (the e610 aka L5 - wow this too was totally unexpcted!) but i finally found a ways to solve.
Please help me to delete every single line of code LG compiled in this device, please!
Up! Halp pls!

It's hard to say. I remember some people told me that windows 8 have problems with l9 driver. I don't want to say that you can reinstall drivers, because I'm sure you did it a few times. Need help with editing a kdz file for LGUP

I have posted about my problem in several threads now, but I didn't get an answer yet, so I hope I can finally save my phone with your help here... It's been a major pain the cojones for two weeks already.
In short, here is what happened:
I unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP and after flashing superSU (once I found out how to get into TWRP), I got a bootloop.
So I wanted to do a full wipe. But I messed up and wiped literally everything, even the OS
Then I went on to look for a stock ROM zip file. I found one, but I didn't read the whole article which said it was for H901. I installed it and found out it's branded T-mobile version on top of all.
Now I'm trying to get back to a H960A stock ROM, but no luck so far.
I have tried both methods from the LG V10 Stock Firmware (Go Back to Stock) KDZ & TOT Method thread
Then there was a shed of hope when I stumbled upon this thread, where the OP managed to do the same
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v10/help/flashed-h901-h960-comrade-to-help-t3429025
I downloaded the modified Switzerland file mentioned in one of the comments, but it didn't do through for me.
I also tried to run the chkdzdev tool to change my EU version KDZ file, but agian, I got the same error (possibly I didn't do it right, since there is no manual whatsoever and the author doesn't reply)
Here is a screenshot of how it went:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_share": "Share",

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
So now, my only hope is to:
a) find a zip with H960A stock ROM (probably none exists on the interwebz)
b) find a TWRP backup that I can "revert" to (not sure if this would work, but if anyone would be so kind, I could find out...)
c) find someone who can modify the KDZ file and tell me how to do it
Anyone?

Try this. There is some instructions here that might be different from what you've been trying.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v10/general/guide-lg-v10-stock-firmware-to-stock-t3224170
It's saying after you load the firmware into LGUp, you have to close it and then open it again, select refurbish, and then make sure bin file is checked. Hopefully this can get you going. Good luck.

I've tried this one... it wouldn't even let me load the kdz file without doing this...
Problem is, the firmware version is coded somewhere deep in the file and it won't let me install it on a device that has a different version (unfortunately mine was overwritten by the stupid stock ROM i've managed to install)
