I've spent ages looking for a widget which will allow me toggle between 2G and 3G. I have found a number that take you to the network menu but I want a one-click solution. Does one exist?
use any cut from the market and make your own

Sadly as far as i am aware there is no direct switch available... i have looked into this and it seems that there is no way at present to do this....
I too would like this function available without multiple clicks....
look up curvefish on the marketplace... they have one i believe.

Hey everyone,
I personally have a GSM Touch Pro, but I have a few friends coming to me asking about modding their Sprint T. Pro's, obviously CDMA.
One of my favorite tweaks for the GSM version is turning off 3G when i'm not using the internet with a simple slider in the Comm Manager added by Advanced Config tool... will the same program allow switching from evdo rev a / rev 1? Will there be a battery life increase in using the slower speed when not in use? If I cant use schap's ACT, what program can allow the toggling on/off with relative ease for a not-so-tech-savy person who could at least learn a simple process if I show them how to do it?
Thanks for understanding my newbness in CDMA devices; and thank you for the extra hacks & tips I found through the links you all have here, found a few extras I haven't seen in my time lurking the GSM variants of the Touch Pro.
well i was searching the forum for this EXACT question... good thing it was answered
does anybody know?
Im probably more noob than all of you but to my understanding it wont work. On a gsm phone 3g is actually another form of cdma, so gsm 3g phones have two radios and can surf the web while on a call. So if im right a cdma phone only has one radio so if you turn that one off it will be on airplane mode.

found a mortscript... it works great.
If you download the advanced config tool, there is an option to set the data connection to disconnect after a set amount of time being inactive. That saves a lot of battery for me and it is automatic so it isn't dependent on if you remember to do it or not. You can set it to disconnect anywhere between 30 seconds and 10 minutes.

but does it shut off evdo aswell? i think just having data on is different from having your phone stay on evdo.. since evdo is only for data your phone uses more battery even if your not using data on an evdo signal.. and really 1x is only for text and calls.. for the people who arent on the internet all the time.. toggling evdo would save tons of battery
wow, old topic came back up ! >.>
The idea is allowing the checking of e-mail on a low-speed low-power connection (like blackberries on edge) so auto-disconnections are not very helpful..
the mortscript looks like it would work fairly easily.
Hi guys,
I have seen other comm managers that disable the 3G on other phones, but nothing for TG01. 3G signal is bad where I work and where I live, so would like to be able to disable 3G if possible on the fly.
Does an app already exist?

As for direct tg01 settings, go to phone/options/mode & choose GSM.
Try search option in the forum for a dedicated app.
I did search which is why i am asking
When I try to select gsm it is a greyed out option for Orange. So either need to enter Orange settings again or find a handy app. An app would be nicer to switch 3G on and off at will though!
Nice post thanks testing now good work
No idea if this is in the right section of the forum, but here's my question:
I'm looking for a smart wireless management app for Android 2.2.2
Main function I'm looking for is the ability to let it automatically switch between WiFi and 3G as soon as signal drops below an exact specified value. Right now I have a fairly fast #G connection on Vodafone NL, but when I'm home I switch to Wifi to save cost. At some spots in my house the 3G connection is way faster then my Wifi signal, so I want it to atomatically choose the fastest connection. Anyone knows about an app that can do this?
And if there is no app like that out there, anyone willing to take a shot at developing one
Many thanx, DM

Uhhm... thx for the link, but not really what I'm looking for. It sounds very complicated to install, and even more complicated to tweak. Isn't there any simple app out there that chooses the connection with best send/receive qualities?
Admin, please close thread, posted it somewhere else.
Is there any 2G 3G switcher app for g3 .... Most of the apps in maket just take you to the setting menu where non Samsung / galaxy phones can choose between 2g and 3g.. but since we dont have that option is there a work arnd, ??? i baiscally want to be in 2g mode till i unlock the phone.... no point paying for data and losing battery at the same time....
You could use tasker to automate this. It is not free, but worth every cent. I for example use tasker to switch to 2g when screen is off and to 3g when its on. Due to some problems with cm7 on sgs it takes some seconds, but i am pretty sure it works well on g3

You can also install extended controls from the market. It's an app to make a widget with much toggles. Wifi on/off, 3g/2g switcher, gps,...

Got Tasker still figuring it out its not the simplest app out there
Hi guys
Just got my S2 from USA and while using a 3g sim the data connection does not activate HSDPA (the H icon does not come out). On my Xperia Arc this comes with no problem.
Anything I am missing?
Am using my S2 outside USA.
Appreciate your help.
What does the phone display by the signal bar?
Alot may depend on the carrier you're using. Make sure the phone supports all the bands that the carrier uses.

Sounds like an APN issue. Copy the APN settings from your working device to your S2.
One of these links may be of help.
http://www.androidonhtc.com/old/carrier_network_settings
http://www.unlocked-dongle.co.uk/Se...-settings-for-mobile-broadband-operators.html
There is no icon on the bar. I have set up correctly the APN setting. Funny thing is that I can get connected on HSDPA on my other SE Xperia Arc and I get the H icon on this one.
The network option cannot be opened too.
I also tried the code *#301279# to change the HPA setting but to no avail.
Whats wrong?
Sound like you should talk to your carrier and see what they have to say.
In the meantime search online for known apn's for your carrier in your area.

Hi again.
As far as I understand my carrier does not deliver the band that my S2 requires to get connected on HSDPA mode.
Was wondering if rooting can be a solution? Am not really an expert but know the basics.
Any recpmendations/advise?
Thanks!

If it doesn't support the bands, it won't work.

Is there somewhere to see what the different signal icons look like? I used to get the little H on my Captivate (rooted and ROMd), but all I see on the S2 is the little green/red up/down arrows. I'm literally 100 feet from the cell tower and get blazing network speeds, but never see any H in the taskbar icon. Would be nice to see a reference of what the icons look like.

I think that if you decompile the framework-res.apk it contains the images, might be systemui, not completely sure

They're in the System UI apk.

I was hoping for an easier way since "decompiling" is beyond my skill set.

You don't exactly have to "decompile," only extract using apk manager. Easy as pie instructions my signature (image replacement). Decompiling is for code editing. Extracting the apk gives you access to its images.
Hi Guys
Just to make it clear, my 3g does not connect data connection. Am still stuck with my S2 with no data connection while all other things work fine. What to do?
Need your HELP!
Thks
Did you check to make sure packet data is enabled in the Settings? I thought we already determined that your phone won't work on the bands available? Did you contact the network provider as you were told to do?
SOLVED!
Here is the case
My friend Sami just ticked the roaming case and voila the H+ icon poped up.
My understanding is that AT&T(with its factory OS) had blocked the network and by ticking roaming the s2 understand that by roaming you get the data connection. This might be another case.
Would be great if you guys can enlighten this situation.
Thks
