Is there any 2G 3G switcher app for g3 .... Most of the apps in maket just take you to the setting menu where non Samsung / galaxy phones can choose between 2g and 3g.. but since we dont have that option is there a work arnd, ??? i baiscally want to be in 2g mode till i unlock the phone.... no point paying for data and losing battery at the same time....
You could use tasker to automate this. It is not free, but worth every cent. I for example use tasker to switch to 2g when screen is off and to 3g when its on. Due to some problems with cm7 on sgs it takes some seconds, but i am pretty sure it works well on g3

You can also install extended controls from the market. It's an app to make a widget with much toggles. Wifi on/off, 3g/2g switcher, gps,...

Got Tasker still figuring it out its not the simplest app out there

This has frustrated me to no end. Does anybody know if there is an app that will switch from HSPDA to 2g? Preferably one I can set to a schedule? The WiFi calling app is the only one that seems to do this flawlessly, however it requires a WiFi connection.
When I am at work I do not use my phone for anything except phone calls and my calendar, so I do not have any need for 4 or even 3g coverage... And my phone just drains battery trying to establish these connections.
I've tried using APNdroid but it just force closes my phone process.
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. I'm running elite sense 2.6 if that matters at all.

+1
It would be great if there is some app to schedule 2g/3g.

Why not just do it manually? If not then maybe Locale? It's $10 but it may do what you are looking for.
Switchpro or extended controls has the option idk about a schedule though.
I use a Juicedefender/tasker combo to Control the 3g. I had to ROOT and flash CM to get it do it, but its made my life easier since I never remembered to turn 3g off when I went to work.
*EDIT: though it should be noted that the AOSP Helper that Juicedefender uses to toggle 3g doesn't seem to work on Cm7.03
Hi williecat316,
I just have installed Tasker and I would like to do the same kind of combo as you did with Juice Defender and Tasker. E.g. when I unlock the phone, stay in 2g, but use Juice Defender to start 3g if I am away from any known wifi spot AND if I launch lets say the browser or any connected app. Could you give more details about the way you configured Tasker on your phone?
Thanks
P.S. the 3G/2g swithing through Juice Defender works perfectly on my phone (via AOSP Helper of course) but I'd like to fine tune the way it switches between 2g and 3g thanks to Tasker.
I have problems with 2g... All incoming calls go to voice mail....
Somebody can help me?

Seriously, did you read the date on the last post.
How can I disable 3G and only use EDGE for Internet Connections?
Maybe it safes some battery as mine sucks like hell... even more than my (old) iPhone4 which I try to replace but I am not yet convinced by this phone and OS yet...
I havent found it too ..
on android phones its in main settings, wireless and networks, then hit the use 2g only checkbox.
Go to Settings/Wireless Network/Mobile Network/Network Mode/ Select GSM ONLY.
That will get you 2g data. Hit the thanks button if it helps.

In wifi settings > mobile networks, toggle "only use 2g networks" on or off to your needs.

no solution- just some 2g-edge/3g switch widget- i use widgetsoid from market (free) to switch on 3g whenever needed. there are auto switches, like one in juice defender, but work only with certain roms e.g. cyanogen which hasn't been released for ace thus far.
I m using H+ with my cell company, no 3G. But i set the network for CDMA , still switch , how to stop it? thanks
Goto Settings > wireless and networks > Mobile networks > Network mode and select the appropriate one.....
hit thanks if it helps u....
I understand your problem...This will happen automatically...
The network will switch to H/H+ when you need connectivity and when in idle it will go back to 3G..This is done to save battery and processor speed i guess...
You can always see that when data transfer is needed, the connection switches itself...However from my experience this will create a slight delay always....
I don't know more in detail...like whether this is an android feature or depends on the carrier.. or whether we can disable autoswitching between H and 3G...What I know is this happens for most of us...
Experts pls correct me if you feel to.

Even if it is possible to stick with H all the time, I believe it will have a considerable impact on battery life...
My personal opinion is that your battery life will be cut by half at least... So not worth it...

It'd be nice if we could just adjust the delay of the automatic switch to 3G.
Something like 30 seconds would be nice as most people will probably spend less than that time on a single webpage before switching to another one. That way it won't really affect the browsing speed.
Battery life would not be affected too much as the phone will mostly stay in 3G when it is in idle, even if there are some stuff syncing in the background that will turn H back on.
I think that is the intended behavior, at least on my XXKG3 ROM. The network is idle on 3G... as soon I need data, it switches to H+. I tested that numerous times, it is instant.

I have a question... is there a switecher or something between 2g, 3g, 4g etc? I mean is there possibility to turn on only 2g mode to less battery consumption or sth like that?
Sent from the future
there is an unofficial way.
Dial ##3282# and it will open up a field test mode. Click on the three dots at the bottom and then go to settings. You can then set your Network type to what you prefer from automatic. To make it stick, turn Toggle ENS (reboot required) to Off. Back out of Field Test and then turn off/turn on your phone.
PROTIP: Add ##3282# as a contact and pin it to the screen for easy access.
I thought that it's little easier, i mean without phone restarts etc, but ok, thanks for advice.

Supposedly the carriers required that the switch be removed.

Under Settings->Cellular, there is an option to set "Highest Connection Speed". Options are LTE, 3G and 2G. Would that not work for you?

I can't check this because i dont have this phone right now. Im going to buy it but i read that battery consumption is quite big so i decided to ask you about network switcher, because it can save a lot of energy
