is my leo dead? - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi, ppl, i think i made a stupid move, and i have a dead leo in my hand,
i have try to upgrade my rom with the new Official HK HTC HD2 ROM 1.72.831.1, after it reachs 100%. it just turn blank, like your phone is off. and it just wont turn on, i try hard start, also nothing.
can anyone help?

mm
buddie i think youve bricked it ask 'omega kaos' for help hes a pro

Can you get into the boot loader screen
(i.e. hold down volume control and press reset)
If you can then load up a different official rom.

no boot screen,
the led lite wont even come on when i plug it on the wall outlet

Take the battery out, give it a few seconds then replace it, turn it on.
If nothing then probably a hardware problem.

try everything, soft reset, hard reset, battery out like 10 mins, reinstall, repeat, still nothing

Was your battery a little low when flashing? It has happened to a few others as well if the battery level is a little low. Leave the battery out for about 10 - 20 minutes and then leave to charge. It seems that even though the LED does not always show, the phone is indeed charging and will hopefully come right.

will charge it over night, and see what happen, hopefully it work,
otherwise, i will try to see if i still can return it.

the main info no one asked for and you didnt offer, ,
is it a tmous?
if so then yes, the radio included in that rom has killed it.

how ? we also flash tmous radio in our devices and devices not bricked ? how his device dead if he has proper hspl ? i think there some battery issue during flashing or hardware issue

because the radio in that rom ISNT a tmous radio. It will have a version number of x.xx.51.x, and as we all know, a 51 radio kicks a tmous a$$ every time, hspl or not.

well spotted, doesnt look too good if it is ol chap.

i did the upgrade to Laurentius26 LEOV2.1_GoldEdition, then i try to upgrade my rom with the new Official HK HTC HD2 ROM 1.72.831.1, and. it happen.
yes, it s a tmous

any radio with a 51 in the version.
example, 2.07.51.05.02 will brick it, 2.06.50.04 won't.
The one to be carefull of is the 2.05.50.x which although it has the 50 in the version, isn't a tmous radio, and i think causes problems.
(Can't directly confirm that myself, but to be safe tmous users should stay away from 2.05.50.x as well as all radios with a 51)

i assume you mean 'cant be harmed'.
No, normal leo and telstra can take any radio, its just the tmous that gets bricked with certain ones.

So just to clear this up because now even i have my doubts about what can and cant be done
if your hardware device is a TMOUS
flash to 51 an its screwed
flash to 50 radio its ok, except 2.05.50.x
and stick to TMOUS ROMS
if you have the regular world wide version
you say we can flash to what ever we like
but is that still true if you have flashed to a TMOUS ROM with the .50 to get the extra RAM / newer ROM?
The device its self isnt a TMOUS original device but the ROM is, but if thats the case then can you change the radio of a original hardware with a TMOUS ROM back to a 50 Radio, of course loosing the extra RAM in the process and im assuming having to change the actual ROM back to an older one too at the same time ?

flash to 50 radio its ok, except 2.05.50.x Ive only a vague memory of reading of this radio messing with a tmous, and i cant find the reference again. But since its an old radio anyway, probably best leave it alone.

flashing a tmous rom doesn't make a regular leo suceptible to the tmous radio bricking.
Example - you have your stock 2.xx.51.x radio installed, and you flash a tmous based rom, which needs a ..50.. radio.
All that happens is the phone hangs at the boot screen, and doesn't show the RGD info. However, you CAN still manually enter bootloader, flash the correct radio, and the rom will now boot.
The device its self isnt a TMOUS original device but the ROM is, but if thats the case then can you change the radio of a original hardware with a TMOUS ROM back to a 50 Radio, of course loosing the extra RAM in the process and im assuming having to change the actual ROM back to an older one too at the same time ?
you meant to type 'a 51 radio' i think? and i think you're asking what happens if you are running a tmous rom and radio, and then flash the radio back to a non tmous ..51.., right? In which case you find the same situation as above, the rom will hang at the splashscreen till you flash back to a ..50.. radio, or flash a non tmous / non 576 rom.

Having problems booting., freeze..

Had flashed my HD2 to Artemis and after some minor problems i decided to flash back to stock room and flash to lates Artemis.
Did as i allways do: Took out Simcard / SD card and flashed stock room.
The flash went as allways and finished but when the phone restarted it got stuck in the first screen (White background with HTC logo on, right before the red writings stating Radio version etc appears, and cant get any further. Phone stays there for maybe 20 sec then reboots and same happends.
Have tried to flash the stock room via SD card not, but same happends.
Any ideas?
Stock room is: _HTC HD2_RUU_Leo_HTC_NOR_1.66.409.1_Radio_Signed_15.30.50.07U_2.06.51.07_Ship
Up we go..
Thnx
if it rebooting itself, then its likely a bent battery pin.
PLus, as soon as you flash a stock rom from sd, (even if the flash hangs at 0%) then it removes hspl, so be aware of that when you get it working and try to flash a cooked rom again.

Non of the pins are bent, all of them are 100% perfect. Have also tried 4 different batteries to eliminate a problem with the battery, without any luck.
If the pin had been bent i would asume that it would reboot immediately, but the phone shows the HTC logo and the white background for 20-30 sec, then reboots.

I'm aware of that, but cant even get the phone to boot right after i've flashed the stock rom, flashing went as normal without any sign of error, and rebooted with the red button after that.

Were you able to perform Task29? Am just thinking loud here, it may help. I had a similar problem on my wizard and it came out to be that damn battery pins. I know you have tried alternatives but just my two pennies here.

you should both post in the artemis rom thread.

I have never been able to preform Task29 with the exe, i allways get an error before the program starts, but as i have flashed the stock room, and hard reset before flashing cooked room this should not be necessary (Flashing stock room also includes Task29 if i'm not wrong)

Could be, but i cant see any reason why Artemis should couse this. Note that this happend before i flashed the lates Artemis. Right after stock room was flashed. Used the same Stock room file as i have used before (have flashed close to 20 cooked rooms) so the file should not be damaged eather.
The other user you linked to got Artemis 23 up and running, and then the problems started after doing custom mods to it. This was not the case here.

Hey guys I am an enthusiast about Android and recently I purchased a HD2 which is great as a phone (hardware specs) but it lacks of a good software. So on my quest to make this phone the best I stumble upon this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=732380
and which I thought it was the greatest because it tells you how to do everything for u to run Android in your Phone. I did every single step in it I installed ChuckyGTX Rom in it, but when I run HTC Sebse Desire Build, it boots up great and it works, after about five minutes in it freezes up and stop responding.
I really don't know if I installed the right HSPL, Radio, ROM and Android, for dat matter, in my phone. So I would love if someone here can help me. Thanks before hand. I really don't know if I installed it right or not? which one is supposed to go first? The phone is working fine with Chucky Rom, except that it does not display my location weather. Also I do not have a sim card in it yet!
This are the things I installed in my phone:
HSPL3
Radio 2.12.50_2
ROM: Chucky ROM GTX (but I dont know which one, when it boots up it says GTX 2.5, I did not download it from here)
Android: HTC Sense Desire Build
This are the specs for my phone.

First thing I would try is to delete the android build from your SD card completely, re download it and start again to see if the problem is still there.
If it still happens then try another build and see how that runs.
Finding a build that works well for you can be a lot of trial and error.
You could always try using a newer kernel for the build your having problems with, search the android sections for info on that.
Im not sure if having a sim card will affect how it runs or not but I dont think so.
Hope that helps......

After every time Android froze I did uninstall it and reformat the SD card. Also I try about 4 different builds but the only one dat it goes to the system is HTC Desire Sense Build (Which I love by the way) the rest of them get stock on android logo or they never finished booting up completely.
And what other kernel you think I can use on my phone?

Hmmm
Wouldnt worry about a kernel for the moment.
Only thing I can suggest for now is trying a different WM Rom........
Do u mean like a new OS for da phone right? Where can I get one dat u think it will work for this phone? Or I was thinking to put the phone back like it was and start all over again from scratch. But Im not even sure how to put it back to default.
Am I right in thinking that you have a "tmous" HD2? (green and red hardware keys?).....
If so you need to read through this thread for info on flashing a new rom..
Then choose a rom from here.....
or here.........
make sure its compatible with your tmous hd2..... most of them are.
You could also flash a new radio if you want. Make sure you only flash radios with a .50. in the name......
NEVER EVER go anywhere a radio with .51. in the name, these are for the other type of hd2 and will kill your phone.
Might also be worth posting your problem in the hd2 android section......

If u mean green and red keys to Open and Hangup buttons then yes, dat is the phone I have. Also the thread u r telling me to read is da one I used to flash my 1024Leo
ok well i would start over again from scratch.......
new rom, radio, format sd card, new build etc then see what happens......
Great news conantroutman I did what u tell me to do and I got the HTC Sense Desire Build running. Here is what I did:
Change the ROM back to Chucky GTX
Change Radio 2.12.50.2 to 2.08.50.05
But there are some issues that are I guess aggravating me the first one is that it shows all the weather for all the areas except mine and the battery drains while the phone is plugged to the computer. But besides that it did not freeze and it runs pretty smooth. Is there anything u can recommend me to do in this case. Heheheheh!!! I really want it to run as my main cellphone system.
I didnt use the desire build for very long so I'm not sure of what settings are available.........
I would look for something along the lines of "Allow charging whilst connected via usb" or something like that, tucked away somewhere in the settings menu..........
The weather issue...........
Depends what your using to get your weather info....
Sense?
Weatherbug?
Other?
Not every location is listed so it might default to the nearest listed location to where you are....... try using another gps related app and get a fix to make sure it knows where you are and see if that helps........
Theres a good chance someone else using this build will have asked this in the thread for the build so might be worth trying there........
Glad to hear you got it up and running

I have a problem and was wondering if any can help me out. My hd2 is not getting past the loading screen. I have NRG rom and when I turn on the phone it gets to the NGR sign and stops. It just started doing this yesterday. I can get into the bootloader but when I tried to put a new rom on the device it just said it can not connect to the device. I don't know if my phone has brick or not because it turns on and I can get into bootloaders. Anyone with any answers.
Thank you

Hi
What is th version and name of the NRG rom. and did you HSPL and what radio version if you know
Russ
have you changed radio yet? regular hd2 ships with a ..51.. radio but nrg rom requires a ..50.. radio.
enter bootloader - confirm spl says x.xx.hspl and not x.xx.0000 - flash a radio.
a rom that requires a 50 radio wont get past loading screen with a 51 radio.
Quoted from Energy rom instructions
''
Q: After a reset my Phone hangs on white screen while loading.
A: This is caused by a non compatible Radio. Upgrade to a 2.xx.50.xx radio version, which also unlocks the 576MB RAM
''
If this is the correct answer, then shame on you for not reading the energy rom thread correctly before flashing.
radio is 2.15.50.14. This is not my first time running NRG rom on my phone.
OK What version are you using of NRG rom, is it the dinik, touch of glass, GTX.etc and what date did you down load? was it the last update 18dec? 29xxxx as there is a lot of problems with that versions. Infact they have been removed from the download link. I had to go back to my old version from the 13th Dec to get it back working.
So think it would be better if you flash the older version of what you are using until NRG gets the new versions fixed. (His laptop crapped out on him. As per the ROM links)
Yes, it was the touch of glass version and it was the last update 18dec. So, I tried to upload miri and dinik but it just read my computer wasn't sync to the computer. So, it maybe something wrong with the rom and my phone should be alright.

[Q] SPL change

Hello,
I'm running Android(JDMS 1.6.2) on my HD2. I'm really happy about how it feels and works. There is 1 problem i really like to get fixed. My Internet is really slow.
I read something about a radio i need to change because it does't work that well with the one that's installed on my phone right now(Is this true?). I need get this radio on my hd2 using hspl2. Problem is that when i try to install hspl2 i get an error about having a wrong spl(3.something). How do i get the good SPL on my phone?
Thanks in advance
Yeah, the radio version can influence the internet connection.
Witch radio version do you have for the moment?
And about your problem about SPL/HSPL; with is your spl version from the moment?
How can i check what radio version i have?
I have spl 3.08 i think. Try to do this a week ago. Did't get it right so i gave up.

I guess you mean spl 3.03.0000 (the one who is integrated into stock ROM 3.14!)?
In case you have install/use the stock ROM 3.14 you have spl version 3.03, and radio 2.15.50.
Don't look for installing the HSPL; HSPL and spl 3.03 isn't compatible.
But to be honestly, radio 2.15.50 oz the latest one (I also use it without connection problems.)
If you would like to know (for sure) witch spl version you have you need to set your device into the bootlouder screen. Shutdown your device > Hold volume down button press > press power button. You will get a 4 color screen = Bootlouder]
But back on your connection problem; did you try a other Kernel version?
Or try a other Android build.
You're right. Just checked it in windows.
I feel really stupid everytime i ask you how to do it. But how do i change te kernel?
I tried several builds and this is the only one which has this problem. It's too bad because i really like this one. Do you know a nice build that runs smooth?

[Q] Please Help a Dying HD2

Hello everyone, hopefully you can help me figure out what's wrong with my HD2.
.:BACKGROUND INFO:.
I bought a used TMoUS HD2 a couple months ago and it was working fine up until last month. At first, it would freeze and I would have to do a battery pull, but as time went on, it froze more and more often. One day, I think it froze around 20 times in a row. Eventually, I let the phone sit without the battery for a few minutes before I tried booting it again. When it did boot, I figured maybe there's something wrong with the software, so I did a hard reset. After the hard reset, the phone will boot into the desktop and then freeze (If I'm lucky) or sometimes it will just freeze on the T-Mobile "Stick Together" screen. I tried flashing a the stock ROM and it would always stop at 8%.
I've always used the stock ROM since I got the phone, not sure if the previous owner flashed it before, but it does have HSPL 2.08. The only thing I've done to the phone are the registry tweaks I got from these forums. Here's a list of applications I installed to my HD2:
Chainfire 3D Driver Update
Co0kie's Home Tab
appelflap HTCRamDisk
ATT WAP MEdiaNet and MMS Settings
Band Switch V2.8 Auto Disconnect Data
Battery Increment Display 1.66 ROMs
CleanRAM
ClearTemp v1.3.1
GoogleMaps
JayVee Disable Clock Flip
Long Press Send Key Alt Tab
RAMDisk Opera Cache
TCPMP v2 Video Audio Player
TX Opera Mobile 10 Flash Support
WM Long Life 0.66. 0302
Not sure if this is relevant or not, but the last thing I remember installing was Co0kie's Home Tab before the freezing started.
.:HD2 SPECS:.
OS Version: 5.2.21892 [21892.5.0.89]
Manila Version: 2.5.20121412.2
Rom Version: 2.13.531.1 [90963] WWE
Rom Date: 04.28.10
Radio Version: 2.10.50.26
Protocol Version: 15.39.50.07W
.:THINGS I'VE TRIED:.
Flashing a Custom ROM via USB will stop randomly at different percentages depending on which ROM I flash. I've tried a few different ones.
Flashing the stock ROM
(RUU_Leo_1_5_TMOUS_2.10.531.0_Radio_Signed_15.34.50.07U_2.08.50.08_2_Ship) via USB always stop at 8%.
Flashing the stock ROM
(RUU_Leo_1_5_TMOUS_2.10.531.0_Radio_Signed_15.34.50.07U_2.08.50.08_2_Ship) via SD card will give me an error (RADIO_V2 - RSA Fail). I've attached a picture of this error.
Since flashing the stock ROM via SD Card gives me an error (RADIO_V2 - RSA Fail), I decided to flash a new Radio (Radio_Leo_2.15.50.14), but it gives me the same error. (I've also attached a picture of this error) I haven't tried other ones because I'm not exactly sure which ones to try and I don't want to brick my phone...if it isn't already bricked yet.
Can anyone suggest some Radio that's safe for me to try flashing for my TMoUS HD2? I'm really out of ideas on what to do besides that, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
***EDIT 1*** (01.21.11) - Tried Task29, went all the way to 100% but the phone fails to reboot. Flashing a ROM after Task29 doesn't work Also added a picture of the bootloader screen.
***EDIT 2*** (01.21.11) - Added a list of radio and ROMs I've tried flashing in post #9.
You can flash any radio with .50. in the name.......
NEVER flash a .51. these will brick your phone.
However this doesnt sound like a radio problem. The only thing I can think to suggest is to read up on "Task 29" this will completely format your device memory and should allow you to reflash a new ROM.
Best of luck........
Thanks for your reply, Conantroutman! I just tried Task29 and it was stuck at 58% the first time, and the second time it completed all the way to 100% (With a success message from my PC) but my HD2's screen just goes black instead of rebooting. After a battery pull, I tried installing the stock ROM and the same thing still happens. It stops in the middle of updating and says there's a communication error.
Any thoughts?
Sorry, the only thing left to suggest is to try the whole process again on another PC. Also try uninstalling active sync / wmdc from your PC and trying again.

No need to be sorry I really do appreciate the help! Would upgrading/downgrading the HSPL do anything?
If it stops working using the pc then try using the sd card method.
Do a search for hd2 sd card flashing and you should find out how...
Might be more lucky without the pc in the mix, especially if there are communication errors involved...
Cheers...

I've actually done that as well. The flash also fails but at least it gives me an error (which I've posted a screenshot of in my first post). Not that I know what it means though Hopefully someone with more knowledge can help me decipher it.
Just a question, did you changed previously your radio? If yes to witch one?

I've been reading up on how to flash stuff since I got the phone last year, but I never tried to flash anything until the beginning of this week. I'm not sure if the previous owner did though.
These are the radio I've tried this morning:
-2.10.50.26
-2.11.50.20
-2.11.50.26
-2.12.50.02.2
-2.14.50.04
-2.15.50.14
I used the SD card method to flash all the radios above. Some of the radios failed before the progress bar finished, but some actually went all the way. The phone doesn't reboot itself after it finishes though, so I have to do a battery pull. It doesn't seem to make a difference since I still can't flash any ROMs after I flash the radio.
And these are the ROMs I've tried to flash:
-CR192 Desire HD v6.5.3.0.9 Beta
-RUU Leo 1 5 TMOUS 2.10.531.1 Radio Signed 15.34.50.07U 2.08.50.08 2 Ship
-RUU Leo 1.5 TMOUS 2.13.531.1 Radio 15.39.50.07U 2.10.50.26 Signed LEO Ship
-RUU Leo 1.5 TMOUS 3.14.531.1 Radio Signed 15.42.50.11U 2.15.50.14 2 Ship
After leaving the battery out of the phone for a day, I tried Task29 again and managed to complete it (all the way to 100% and a proper restart) without freezing. So then I tried flashing a stock rom, but that stopped at around 8%. When I go into bootloader now, it seems that my HSPL has been removed and I'm reverted back to regular SPL.
If I decide to use Task29 again or flash a stock rom, do I need to install HSPL? Should I install HSPL first or just leave it alone and flash normally?

Yes, install the right HSPL first. Then, do task 29, then you install the correct radio, lastly you can install custom rom.
Good luck

Thanks Silverwind, I'm using HSPL3 to install HSPL 2.08, but it always fails. I can install regular SPL 2.08 perfectly fine though. I'll leave the battery out for a day and try again to see if it makes any difference.
