Hello guys,
I need advice on whether I should dismantle my Blackstone, or should I just leave it to the pro? I want to change the housing as the current one's badly damaged but I dont want to pay big bucks for that.
As for myself, I have fair knowledge on these stuffs, as I have dismantled my previous HTC phones, ipods etc etc. However, the last time I tried to change the antenna cover of my Blackstone, I felt that it was rather difficult compared to the previous phones/devices I did. I ended up breaking the connecting latches on the old antenna cover. And I did follow the HTC Service Guide, which I think is not sufficient.
I couldn't find any video tutorials on dismantling the Blackstone. Could someone point me in the right direction please? Thanks a million
I just had to replace a damaged digitizer. i downloaded the service manual and it did help......a little! Basically, the main dissasembly was pretty straight forward, but the digitizer replacement was a nightmare!!! The LCD, Digitizer and front housing are basically fused together with an adhesive tape. Trying to remove the LCD from the digitizer was futile (broke the LCD). I had to basically replace the LCD and the Digitizer to make it all work again. The main problem with the new hardware is that you cannot get the stock replacement adhesive/tape so i had to use stuff from around the house.....i hope the diplay doesn't fall out of my phone. Anyway, got it eventualy working. Definately doable....but be careful not to touch the digitizer or LCD with your fingers.....whooops! Anyway, good luck.

Thanks.
Hmm. Or maybe the problem was only me. I find it pretty hard to dig out the antenna cover from its latches. Maybe I was digging on the wrong spot. And thats why I was reluctant to continue further. Mind sharing how you "digged" the antenna cover?
Yeah, be careful with separating the LCD from the digitizer. I recently replaced the digitizer on mine. I agree with the antenna cover, I had some troubles with mine.
I used a old sim card to help pry the antennae cover off. Because my digitizer was cracked i was able to peel it off the lcd without the the lcd. Managed to use the old adhesive tape aswell.
Check out this thread - it might help you! There you will also find a link to a video some other user made, showing how the HD can be disassembled! But - as others already have said: I wouldnt recommend disassembling the screen unit! I too managed to destroy my LCD doing so! forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=462102
Thanks alot guys. Appreciate it.
video is in my signature. Changing the antenna cover is actually really easy once you have done it ... once or twice ;-)

Hi, i also just made a couple of video - disassembly and reassembly - the inside of the HD is becoming a real star...

Hi,
I damaged my LCD screen but not the glass digitizer. I ordered a replacement LCD screen and it has arrived.
I have seen several guides to replacing the digitizer on the Galaxy Tab 10.1, but none on replacing the screen. I don't want to just assume that the process is the same.
My biggest concern is for the digitizer itself. These guides mostly recommend using a heat gun to loosen the glue between the digitizer and the LCD screen. My question is whether or not the heat from the heat gun is a threat to the function of the digitizer?
TLDR: Is it safe to use a heat gun on a working digitizer to replace a broken LCD screen?
Please pardon this bump (6 days later).
You broke the LCD behind the digitizer, but the digitizer is still fine ??
most of time, people will break the digitizer (which is in front)
I already did the digitizer repair (in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1385958 )
to separate the digitizer from the LCD, you may need a heat gun but you can do it without, you just need to get a good knife and do it very slowly. for the next part I can't help you...

Yup! I fell asleep on the couch with the tab on my lap, I went to get up in the morning, started getting up, put my foot down and it was leaning at an angle on the floor and against the couch. I felt it there and once I realized what it was I took the weight off... just damaged the corner of the lcd screen, but the digitizer is perfectly fine, not cracked and fully responsive even where the liquid bleeds in the corner of the screen.

I hope somebody here might have the experience or even knowledge of whether the digitizer can withstand the heat from a heat gun without harm; I'd prefer not to go the knife route if I can avoid it.
Well I didn't get any answers here, so I bit the bullet and went ahead and did the LCD screen replacement.
It went fine, my Galaxy Tab 10.1 is now perfectly functional again.
A: When used to gently heat the housing side of the display assembly, the heat gun did not damage the digitizer.
If I could re-do it I would keep the following in mind:
- Peel off the green antistatic tape from the flex cables entirely because they are very sticky and difficult to pull off of the end of the flex cable when it's detached from its connector.
- Use proper tools; while guitar picks were helpful, I had to use bathroom tweezers for some bits and that could have been a disaster.
- While working the glue, be more careful not to get any glue on the inside face of the digitizer. It won't come off easily, and I didn't want to risk working it or using any type of solution.

So, when do we get the walkthrough with pictures?
Glad the repair was successful!

Sorry, I didn't take any photos. Besides it was a bit of a kludge job, I was very careless with certain parts of the process, and wound up with an extra screw I couldn't find a hole for. I definitely wouldn't recommend my work to anybody else.
There are a couple of videos from YouTube that were immensely helpful:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogVhYYakE6A (this is for a broken digitizer replacement, not quite the same)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thTt6G27NV8 (basic full disassemble)
Good job!

Hello, looking for a broken/borked/dead HTC One to attempt a different disassembly method to try to help the One community.
It is my understanding that they are glued together, not screwed, and that the suction cup method does not work. I used to retrofit headlights that also used glues, some heat glues, some needed a solvent. I have a lot of technical skill, and i would like to try my hand at popping one apart WITHOUT destroying the case/screen. I dont care if its water damaged, cracked screen, whatever, as long as its intact.
Posted this in all HTC One sections, please PM me if you have one or know of one, i'll pay shipping to and fro (i will NOT attempt repairs, JUST non-destructive disassembly) and post the results and a video on youtube if successful, and ship the unit back disassembled if successful, and not damaged further if not successful.
Please PM if interested or if you have any heads up to exchange contact information.
Thank you,

not yet, i may later, but i want to see if its possible to decouple the hardware with simple acetate gas in a bag (pretty safe; its nail polish remover) and a low heat gun with a suction cup.
thats how i got the glass off my friends iphone digitizer when he cracked just the glass, then reglued it. glass screen cost $10 on amazon, screen/digitizer was only available through apple as a $200-something repair job.

Ive taken one apart. Your not getting it apart without damaging the housing. No if's and's or but's. The amount of heat required to melt the glue holding the housing assembly together would damage the LCD (believe me, I know). In addition, any chemicals used will risk melting the delicate white plastic that is molded to the case. What I will tell you is that this will be a phone that requires a housing any time you service anything inside. Look on ebay. Complete housings are 50 bucks, that is what you will be looking at if you have to change a battery, lcd or internal board. I will say that 50 bucks isnt to bad for an aluminum housing. Plus, it freshens up the one to look like new. Let me know if you have any questions.
Okay, so my Terminator...errr, my son, managed to crack the heck out of his Nabi 2 digitizer screen. The LCD screen is fine and he can still use the Nabi, but I've noticed more and more cracks so I'm sure it's bound to break the LCD.
So, I went on eBay and ordered a piece of glass, but I'm not thinking it's not going to work. It was only like 13 bucks. I had a model number given to me after the fact (at070tn90), and I just looked and I didn't get that one. I'm just hoping it will work.
At any rate, I finally got the Nabi apart, but I've been fearful of removing the connectors for the screen. Can someone PLEASE tell me how to get the screen apart so I can try to replace it when I get the correct glass for it? PLEASE! There are NO Youtube vids for this...tons for the Nexus 7, but nada for Nabi.
Please help...I'm desperate! Thanks so much!!
The likelihood the digitizer isn't cracked is very low.
NABI2 touchscreen layering:
front glass..............thick (glue around outer most edges to frame)
airgap......................very thin (glue around edges)
digitizer glass........thin
lcd............................thick
I tried the same thing but the actual digitizer glass is like 1/10 the thickness of the front panel glass and glued to it on the edges. If the digitizer glass is not cracked, it will probably crack on attempted removal from the front panel. If the digitizer is fully working in-spite of the front glass cracking it may be possible to heat the front assembly up to the point the adhesive allows the glass to just fall out.... but as far as how close the glue melting point is to the melting point of the plastic frame is not something I know. The entire assembly is put together with some super strong double-sided sticky tape. If you can source just the digitizer and glass assembly I'd like to know.
Once one attempts a replacement and it doesn't work is it still possible to get Fuhu/Nabi to replace the screen (at reasonable cost)?
( If not you could just plug in a keyboard/mouse and use the hdmi out... would make a great XBMC server... once the port exists... )
.
Pictures?

Do you have any pictures of the digitizer and ribbon cable? Also location of the cable and size measurements.

I already put it back together because he was taking everyone's iPhones to play games on. lol The glass anatomizer (or whatever it's called), had a long thin strip and the LCD had a thicker one. Either way, the glass nowhere near fit. I had a feeling it was going to be too hard to replace anyway; hence the reason I can't seem to find a tutorial on fixing a Nabi.
And yes, Fuhu will fix it for like 85 bucks plus shipping...I only paid 90 for the tablet just recently (Craigslist). Oh well. I guess we'll just let him play till he cuts his finger.
Thank you both so much for your input. I appreciate it
Help replacing Nabi2 digitizer screen...
Any luck on this?
I have a Nabi 2 on which I've removed the broken digitizer. It was a bit more difficult than I had anticipated. I had to keep the heat gun on the glass and avoid heat-damage to the plastic. I used a small knife between the digitizer and the plastic frame. Next time, I may heat and bend a cheap knife into a Z shape to get under the glass without lifting it too much. I did get it out in some large pieces, but am not sure if I could do it intact if it hadn't been cracked.
Anyhow, the LCD looks great, but I can't seem to find the digitizer anywhere. The ribbon cable has a sticker with the following:
EP0700MLM1
12073*A1G.

View attachment 2625405
and on the back side above the chip, is:
40-90121-0
EDT REV.C
View attachment 2625413
on the inside glass is:
85701165
View attachment 2625417
The tiny text in the upper-right corner and written in mirror-image is:

I tried running the text through Google and aliexpress.com / alibaba.com, but to no avail. Anyone else have any luck?
Thanks,

I am sorry for bringing back an old thread, but has anyone found a source for a proper replacement part for this? I am having a hell of a time finding a replacement part for the digitizer in my nabi2. It's as if nobody makes a replacement for the digitizers with EP0700MLM1 on the ribbon cable. About the only choice I have now is to find a used part, and pray that it also has the same kind of LCD screen within the housing.

I am looking at a few on Fleabay now. You need to take yours apart and compare model numbers with the ones on Ebay. Just search ebay for Nabi 2 digitizer. about 20 results for it, ranging from $25 -65. The $65 one is a complete front panel minus the LCD. just unscrew the top panel and replace, it looks like.
Wow...I'm the original poster...and here I am years later still bothering with Nabi! lol In 2014, I went on Nabi's site and paid $60 to have the digitizer replaced. I never sent the Nabi in because a friend of mine gave me his kid's Nabi to use for parts (he couldn't get it to charge any longer). I took the entire front panel with LCD and digitizer and replaced it with mine. Worked like a charm...until my younger son stepped on it...on purpose! Lil turd! So, here I am again trying to fix the screen, BUT, this time I noted that I needed the LCD and the digitizer (the ribbon on the LCD was breaking off - not sure how that could have happened). At any rate, I ordered both the digitizer and LCD. I replaced them both and it's a no-go...not working. I still have it apart, but I have the cables plugged in, so when I move the screen around, the Nabi screen will come up, but the touchscreen isn't working. I may be sending the digitizer back, but I'm wondering if it's because of how they are lying on one another. Does anyone know if maybe the touchscreen doesn't work if it's too close or too far from the LCD screen. I don't mean by an obvious amount - I mean is there a "specific" amount of space. I am trying to get it in the casing exactly like it was before, but I don't want to do anything permanent until I know it's working 100%.
Also, you can easily and cheaply get the LCD and digitizer for the Nabi now - just stinks you have to order it from China and it takes forever to get here! I can only imagine how long a return/replacement is going to take. Ugh!
Oh, and Nabi has yet to return my $60 bucks...I have spent way too much on this tablet!
I ended up having to match my part number to a used but good part off of ebay. I had ordered several "new" digitizers and they never worked. There seemed to have been a design change somewhere along the line, or some missing information that made mine not work with the "new" parts available at the time.
However, to answer your question, the digitizer will work completely separated from the LCD as long as the ribbon cable is attached (of course). Rather than reassembling everything, I would only connect the digitizer to see if it worked. When I finally found one that worked, I then committed to doing the full repair.
It was a very painful process.
Is it an easy thing to take apart and put bk together if you have never done this before my daughter stood on her Nabi accident it was under her comfort blankie opps screen cracked but works fine she's only 2 ( well advanced for her age) soI dnt want her to use it incase she cuts her tiny fingers doesn't feel sharp but dnt want to risk it can't find any view on u tube still many years on be nice if someone would do one haha
Honestly...
It was a pain in the ass to remove the glass / digitizer from the nabi. If you're not careful--as I was--it is real easy to deform the plastic bezel that the glass / digitizer and LCD reside in. I ended up having to buy a replacement bezel that already had a digitizer and LCD attached to it. The LCD was DOA, but the one from my original was fine, so I begrudgingly transplanted that too.
Test the digitizer FIRST before committing to installing it on the plastic bezel.
I dropped my Padfone X on concrete, and it broke the front glass! I've never broken a screen/glass on any phone before, and this was my first. With that being said, is there any way to cheaply repair it? Since it's just collecting dust, I can give it a try with one of the kits online. Does anyone suggest a kit? It seems like most solutions would cost just as much as a new one. Any help would be much appreciated!

Easiest method would be to buy something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Full-Touch-...764621?hash=item3aafc100cd:g:wPYAAOSwT6pVzb3a
Otherwise you could use this method as used on the Nexus 6, I doubt you have to disassemble as far.
But you would need the following:
Optically clear glue with UV light Kit $14.95 US
To apply new screen and set the glue
Molybdenum wire $7.99 US
To safely remove old glass with damaging the LCD underneath
Phone pry tool $5.00 US
To pry edge up to get molybdenum wire underneath
A replacement glass/digitizer if you can find one.
Some kind of heat source to heat up the glue to make easily removed without damaging LCD. A special hotplate is recommended, but a heatgun with finess and not getting LCD too hot will work or popping in oven at around 90 C or around 200 F for no more than 5 minutes until you can still touch it, just too hot to hold your finger on it.
Ultimately the first method would be cheaper after buying all the special tools for the tools and much easier. You could also buy a bricked Padfone X/S and swap motherboards
I dropped mine on concrete just because it slipped out of the dock (for which I *now* put a piece of velcro on the back in the case to keep it still). I opened up the device and took it apart but since I'm not as savvy as many with taking the digitizer apart, I just bought a new one on eBay for about $50 without the dock. You *could* get a new digitizer and equipment to install it (or even just buy a new face with the LCD and glass already around it, but for an extra $20 or so, you could just have a used phone which would work without the hassle. But IF it' in the dock, just keep it in the dock.
I have a screen protector on mine and the real screen is cracked but not having any issues. Try adding a screen protector
