Gday all,
Hope you are all well...
Im Running:
Htc HD2
Cookies Hometab 1.8.5
CHT
(sorry i cant get any other details)
I have a small problem, and wondered if anyone could help, before i do the inevitable reset.
For some reason when i start the handset, it comes up with the "Unable to launch HTC Sense", then "press here to launch HTC Sense"
I can get into the start menu, but not the settings tab.
What is was wondering is, is there a way to get sense to launch some other way?
HELP...
Thanks guys.
try menu start-->settings-->today--> items tap and untick htc sense and soft reset, should work. If not, try uninstall cht or application installed as last
If you already have installed CleanRam,
so,
just try to clean with the second or third level your HD2
and will be fixed!!!
Done for me!!
Thanks guys for the replies...
Already had Cleanram installed and tried this theory, but did not work for me, and also tried the unticking sense in today screen, no joy either.....
Think i have just fixed the problem though, the only way i could get sense to load, was to
Untick HTC Sense (in Today menu)
reload cookies hometab (cookies hometab has been running flawlessly by the way since i installed it ages ago),
Then soft reset...
Seems to be stable at the mo...
Thanks for the info though guys...Keep up the good work

Hi guys
I've been facing since I bought my HTC Athena irregular freeze everyday.
I upgraded the Device to WM6 the next day I received it, it went very soomth with my applications installed.
However, the freeze appear very randomly, it could be while launching a new program, or playing backgammon, sometimes after device wake up, also once when received an SMS.
A very weird behavior also, is that sometimes I need to soft-reset 3/4 times in a row to get passed the HTC and the Windows Mobile splash screen.
For info, the soft-reset is not necessarly done after a freeze ....
I decided to start this new topic in order to see if other people are facing same symptoms on their Athena, and to share our experience together.
Cheers
Hope you run Oli's SPL Unlocker/patcher...

Sorry no such problems here, but did you run Olipro's SPL patcher/Unlocker before flashing thee ROM? I know tupsindin released a few WM6 ROMs a while ago that could be flashed without CID unlocking your X7500, but Olipro's Unlocker will make your device unbrickable.
If you have already done this, try flashing the new WM6 Dopod U1000 ROM seems very stable to me with no issues so far and slightly snappier than the other WM6 ROMs.
Thks mackaby for your reply
I did unlock it via the UK website I found on XDA forum, sorry but can't remember the name (soemthing IMEI), so I did that then flashed with the WM6 ROM ver 2.20.405.1
Im doing some more testing
what is really annoying is that I need to do 4/5 soft reset very ofently in order to pass by the HTC/Windows Mobile splash screen
I just bought my HTC Advantage X7500 with WM6 already installed and I have lock up issues if I have auto shutoff enabled it will not start backup after a auto shut off I keep using the reset to get it back up. When it is up I just disabled the auto shut off and now have no problems.
Im not having same pb as you, but I saw on one thread on XDA forums that people having that problem fixed it by assigning a the turn on/off device to a hardware button. and apparently it fixed their problem.
Try that and it must fix it for you

Hi,
I have encountered in the past this problem, and I observed that it was happening after I installed HTC X-Button v1.5, and it was even worse after HTC X-Button v1.51.
Later on, a new version was published, and it works flawlessly since. The exact file is HTC X-Button v1.51 build 30229.
Hope you have same issue. Good luck,
Zohar
Thks zoharbl for you reply
I don't have HTC x-button
For now, I found an alternative with Running Pocket Hack Master at 663 Mhz, and I modified the sequence for startup processes using SKTools putting Pocket Hack Master as #1 in the order, Wisbar Advance 3 as #2, SPB Diary as the last one and Norton Antivirus just before the last one.
I noticed that SPB Diary is slowing down a bit my device, and specially after a reset, this is because I created custom tab adding plugins inside this tab such Phone Alarm, SPB Weather and Resco Explorer Plugin ...
I tried many config, and found out this one works the best for me, the device is resetting with less then 30 sec without any hanging anymore.

Really interesting comment. I have original WM5 configured UK Ameo and have always experienced random crashes. After reading this, I looked again at my settings and found the X-button configured - I don't need it as I use the same functionality from Wisbar. Turned it off and it hasn't crashed since.

Hi there BigDede
Don't know if this will help...
Even since before I have upgraded to WM6 I have had problems similar to yours. At the time I had WA3 and WAD installed as well as Spb Weather, Spb Diary and certain parts of Pocketplus. I did a trail and removed all software from Spb and Wisbar and everything worked perfectly. In the meantime I have now only added Spb Mobile Suite and use iLauncher on my today screen together with the plugin from Resco Explorer - no more problems!
It seems to me that some of the above software have compatibilty issues with the U1000/Athena/Ameo (whether wm2005 or wm6 makes a difference I don't know).
Cheers
Thks Superdawie for your reply, you are right, I was suspecting Wisbar, SPB Diary abd phoneAlarm to be the origin of my problems.
But as I said previously, I found a workaround to make the Athena runs ok by playing with the order of startup programs. It's been more then one week without any freeze

Same for me, working well on WM6 since I turned X-Button 1.51 off.
In WM5 I had this problem all the time as WM5 totally sucks!
In WM6 I only experienced this problem when programs "collided" due to timing issues as you've found out. By changing the load order or timing of some applications (some programs have it built right in like SmallMenu....it's resolved all of my lock up issues, etc. Most of the problems can be resolved by playing around with the software you have loaded, as you found out. Not sure if it's because of a crappy OS or because of crappy coding by the developers of the software we're installing...maybe both.
Hi everyone, first and foremost, thank you to everyone who takes the time out to compile all these great resources.
I upgraded using PPCKitchen- and It was a piece of cake. There are only two small issues I seem to be running into right now.
Issue 1: When I go into Settings>Phone and hit the drop-down menu to select a ring tone, its is completely empty. I checked the Windows>Rings folder and it has everything in there. I've tried searching to find an answer but I'm coming up empty right now.
Issue 2: Are there some themes that are incompatible with HTC Home? Sometimes if I change a theme, HTC home disappears and then I can't re-enter the Today Settings without rebooting. I'm guessing that some themes are not compatible and lock up the today settings if I have home enabled.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
-Marc
I actually just realized a third small issue...
I can't enter the HTC Home Customizer...Comes up with the following error message...
"The file 'homecust' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or resotring this file."
I did try reinstalling but it didn't help.
thanks again all.
just as a resource if everybody ever is searching for this same issue...
I figured everything out...
1) Ringer issue: I didn't include Windows Media player when I made my rom- I had to reflash with that included, and that fixed that...
2) Theme issue was related to using themes that were not compatible with HTC Home.
3) Home Customizer wouldn't open because netframework was not installed.
Everything works just fine now.

Thanks for putting up your solutions. Stinks when people don't do that. I had the same #3 problem when I upgraded to dcd 3.0.1. All I did for that was just click the same link (Home Customizer) again and it went through the second time without me having to change anything.
the moment i start up my hd2, it says s2u2.exe is missing or corrupted that kinda **** and my sense can't load. bootloader can still be accessed though.
it jus stays at the screen and says tap here to launch htc sense. tapped and nth happens. i know i need to get s2u2 off my phone but it's installed inside and i can't access any settings or whatsoever.
mine's not hspl coded so i can't flash any roms.
You'll have to do a hard reset.
don't listen to the guy above.
Have you tried pressing the windows key then accessing settings to remove the app?
If you can't access this way, try accessing your programs via Active Sync and try removing S2U2 that way.
Try disabling Sense and load the default... then load it back.
hmm how do i realli disable sense? active sync won't work, cause it won't get into sense.
if i can disable sense, get into the normal windows and jus factory reset everything would be good.
practically nothing realli works when i start up..anyway i can access windows thru other methods say bootloader no?
you don't need sense to access Active Sync... you can even access your programs without accessing Sense.
Just press the Windows button > Settings > Today > Items and disable the Sense and tick Windows Default
Doing a factory reset is the same as a Hard Reset so if you want to do that then you can find the tutorial on doing a hard reset easily.
Do the stuff i said first so you don't waste your time hard resetting.
Encountered the same problem as TS.
HTC sense kept reloading. I got the "Tab to load Sense" thing too.
All the buttons and icons went missing on the home tab.
I couldn't access any of the functions of my phone, not even the remove programme function.
It just showed something like "SettingsImprovement is not certified or the file is missing". Can't remember exactly what it is saying.
Had to do a hard reset in the end...
yeah i hard reset in the end too. found out that some of the hd2 tweak settings i made had it hung..nv realli touched it since..dang.
Actually, the way to solve this is as follow (DO NOT need a hard reset!).
1) Press the Windows start button.
2) Double click on the File Explorer to run the program.
3) Browse to Windows directory.
4) Find the theme item "HTC Black" and double click on that to run. This will bring up the "Today" setup screen for setting the theme and items.
5) Find the "HTC Sense" item and uncheck that.
6) Reboot.
7) Now the phone should load normally.
8) Go to Windows settings to fix the problem.
For myself, I had to go through these steps in order to get into the settings because the settings were linked to the HTC manila tab which was having the trouble to load at the first place.
Guys,
I have a similar problem.
It says "Launching HTC Sense" and nothing happens.
None of the hard keys work, the screen does not react to any press, it is just frozen.
Actyve Synch dos not work also. I am even not able to hard reset because the phone does not react anymore. It still says "Launching HTC Sense".
I have tried to remove and put back the sd card, no result.
I have hopefully backed up a recent version in my SD card.
How could I hard reset the device?
Please help
HTC Sense wont load fix
Hey guys im not too sure if this was discovered yet and im not too sure where this problem comes from but its a problem with the sd card and something that is installed it, a simple fix was to remove the sd card , mount it to your computer and examine your card, look for anything out of the ordinary such as auto run programs and move them to the trash, after deleting the trash put your sd card back into your htc hd2 and pow good as new. . . . someone else try this out and let me know if its a easy fix for u as well. . .
the hard reset, press the reset button on the back of HD2 while holding both volume up and volume down buttons. then press Vol Up to start formatting the device.
try uninstalling Cookie Home Tab & Editor and reinstalling them. that fixed my HTC sense issue
Hi,
If none of the hardware buttons work, what you guys are suggesting does not work...
What I had done is to remove the battery the whole night, after putting back the battery, the hardware buttons worked again, I have solved the problem.
Thanks anyway
HTC Sense problem
Sayborg, on your boot loader what is the number after CotullaHSPL? Is it 0x20 or 0x30?

I think you posted the wrong forum
This is for HTC HD2 (T8585)
I bought a new T-mobile hd2 last week and tried to load a chinese font package (Yahei) to display chinese characters. However, after installing it and restart the phone my htc sense cannot be loaded at all. I tried to hard rest 1-2 times but does not work out. BTW, all the htc software functions like calendar, people, ring setting cannot be load either.
Am I doing anything wrong with the phone, or I need to unlock/tweak the hd2 before installing any softwares.
-Thanks

When I had this problem, a hard reset also failed to solve it, I had to reset 4 or five times before sense was up and running again. I dont know why........
Hi all - first post on xda - please be gentle ;-)
Can anyone suggest what may be the most stable setup on the HD2? the constant freezing is starting to make the phone unusable for me as I use it for work and before I move to something else I thought I'd ask some advice on a better setup.
I have had WM machines (pocket PC) for a long while mainly Ipaq and my last 4150 worked for years without a hitch - couple of screen taps and any info I needed was there quickly mainly excel spread sheets e-mails and schedule, the thing never missed a beat in years. The HD2 seemed the ideal phone replacement.
I have not gone mad with the phone it is pretty stock with a couple of usable mods (CHT and editor etc) every day or so, maybe twice a day I press the on button to bring up the lock screen and it freezes - always when I need it most - it freezes in a particular way ie I can see the taskbar at the top, MENU and PHONE on the bottom (which "react" when pressed but do not bring up the function) and blank screen in between - it needs a soft reset - I have installed the endkey long press which works but this always happens when I need the information quickly and waiting for it to reboot is not quick enough
I would dearly miss co0kies home tab and the couple of mods but if a standard ROM is the best so be it (was going to try the vodafone 1.72 ROM) - or is there a real stripped down ROM that is simple and stable removing all the baggage on the standard ROM. I've never done it but I'm not averse to having a go at cooking a ROM if it will get me what I need
I use all the "business" type functions - dont need twitter/facebook/footprints etc would really use the documents Tab
ROM 1.66.405.2 (76641) WWE
Radio 2.06.51.07
Manila 2.5.19211619.0
Co0kies home tab 1.8.5
CHT editor 1.8.5.1
Resco Registry add in
Resco explorer
Skype
SPB Backup
Avian waves BattlineSvc
Microsoft .NET CF 3.5
Windows marketplace
Each time it locks up I'm getting fed up of friends/colleagues swiping their Iphones at me going "look! mine doesn't do that"
I like the HD2 I'd like to be able to say "but yours doesn't do all this" with all the extra capabilities - instead I seem to be always rebooting - waiting for sense to launch
I don't want to lose the HD2 and its capabilities but If I cant get it to be a bit more stable the Desire is looking tempting or even (wash my mouth out with soap) an Iphone?
Any thoughts or suggestions would be really appreciated
My hd2 became unstable when i had cookies home tab, its been solid as a rock since I uninstalled it, give it a go, I don't miss it anyway.
oh, and if they want proof, my friend has had the same locking up issues on 6 replacement iphones. it crawls to a halt then refuses to react, so he has to wait until the battery goes flat as he can't reset it...
You might want to try moving up to the 1.72 wwe rom and try that with and without cht, perhaps even try rolling back to an older version of cht.
I used to suffer the lockscreen freezing on the stock 1.66 rom.
I cant remember if it persisted after moving to the 1.72 im afraid, I dont think it did though.....
Does it only freeze when using the cht lockscreens?
HardSPL your phone and flash-
http://www.vbnfiles.com/xda/g_lewarne/CleanEx/CleanEX%20Core655%203.50.7z
CHT works fine along with anything else I have thrown at the ROM!
Stable as a rock and is an excellent dive board into Android as well.
For extra "cut down" disable sense and run Resco today plug-in as your home screen.
I used to flash numerous times a week, but, I haven't changed a thing since 16th Aug and that's a record.
what version of CHT are you using as i had to revert back to v1.7 due to the latest one giving me problems...i would suggest to upgrade your Rom to 1.72 start fresh again and install all necessary apps you need one by one that way you can analyse if certain apps are conflicting causing the frezzing problem that you have ....if that doesnt work try a custom rom.

On the iPhone tell him to hold the sleep button + the home button for a few seconds... That should do the trick.
i had the exactly same issue on my second hd2 and had my phone sent in (also vibracall was sounding abnormally), i should get it back this week. i hope CHT works then, my first hd2 never had problems like that....
Thanks indeed for the info I did have a sneaky suspicion that CHT may be a problem, I will try the stock 1.72 and maybe try a few things one at a time see if it helps thanks again
ive had problkems that sound like that, the lockscreen disapears and you can see the screen you have behind, except you still have to slide to unluck . with the vbn rom my lockscreen problems dispaeared complelty. it still seemed to suffer from memory issues but for the most part it was stable.
i hardly use windows mobile anymore, as android is way more fun, and it never complains about not having anough memory
I would suggest couple of things:
- make sure, that all the additional icons (if any) and wallpapers used are in phone memory, i.e. not on sd card.
- using bsb tweaks You can disable wm 6.5 lockscreen and give s2u2 a try
